Tonight on National Spotlight,
my distinguished guest and I will be

discussing the recent history of a very
strange and fascinating town and the story

of an equally strange and fascinating
murder which took place there.

The town is Aspen, Colorado.

A former boom and bust silver cap which
exploded during the 60s to become the

ultimate pleasure dome in the snow.

A reality to the beautiful and the super
rich and a hedonistic fantasy to everyone

else.

The almost seismic changes Aspen went
through on its mad rush from mining town

to Rocky Mountain High took their
predictable toll.

And one wonders if the murder which made
Aspen a household word was, in fact,

the inevitable result of those traumatic
changes.

In this year of 1977, several disenchanted
members of the press had begun referring

to Aspen as a Sodom and Gomorrah in the
snow.

A rival Colorado ski resort, Steamboat
Springs, built a publicity campaign around

the slogan, there is no Aspen.

But Aspen welcomes controversy,
and we welcome one of its most

controversial men.

Tom Keating, today one of the three most
famous trial attorneys in our United

States.

He's considered the least conventional and
the most unbeatable.

Which brings us to the question,
if there is no Aspen, can there really be

a Tom Keating?

Do you mean the one he just described?

I've never heard of him.

You began your legal career right there in
your own backyard with what is still

remembered as the most bloody and brutal
crime in Rocky Mountain history.
