This is my home studio

Inglewood growing up
was pretty rough,

and I saw a lot of struggle
in my school.

That's the moment that I knew

that I wanted
to pursue teaching.

I was the very first one
in my family

to go to a four-year university,

and now I'm a
second grade teacher.

So we are going to add

I sing for my students
all the time.

It motivates them.
It inspires them.

They see someone

someone that grew up like them.

It really is a special,
unique, beautiful job.

If I make a team,

my students are going to be

Early life was a bit crazy.

The house I started off in,
I had my first memories in,

we were very poor, and it was
a very rough neighborhood.

My mom, she would work
12-hour shifts at a hospital

and then go clean people's
houses for extra money.

She used that to start paying
for me to go to guitar lessons.

I needed to do this for him
and for the family.

I'm insanely blessed
to have that kind of mom.

There's a lot of friends of mine

raised in single-parent
households,

and they weren't as lucky.

Music became more serious for me

when I got hired around
to start playing wedding bands,

party bands.

Got married in 2011.

When it came time to figure out
full-time music as a career,

my wife,
she was 100% supportive,

and Nashville was
the obvious choice.

Once Jack came around,

my perspective
on everything changed.

He just wants to run around.

Aaron: Looking back,
thinking about my mom,

something about having a baby
boy lights a fire under you.

Once he was born,
that's what it was about.

It was like, I got to do more.
I have to be better.

I got to work at this.

My wife and my mom,

my family like that
has always been very supportive.

Having a chair turn

I feel like would be validation

of all the hardships
pursuing this dream.

This is a big payoff for all the
years of hard work from my mom.

a very big part of my life.

It was the first thing
that I clung to.

A lot of my career has
been based at the piano.

But there's something
about that passion

for singing that it's
time to lean into it.

So, this is the first time I'm
kind of stepping onto a stage

and really putting my voice
on the front line.

My name is Jerrell Melton.

Over the last ten years,
I've done music directing,

piano teaching.

I've done weddings.

And my mom, she was quite
literally at everything I did.

When I was 18, she was
diagnosed with scleroderma.

It's a connective-tissue
disorder.

She lived with it

for just over ten years
before she passed

March 24th, 2025.

hobby, I guess you could say,

was doing Elvis impersonations.

He would do things for charity,

church events,
those kind of things.

I think I'm a little
different from my dad.

I'm a little more introverted.

I get a little more anxious,

but that was definitely my
first exposure to performing.

My name is Alex Brown.

I'm 26.
I'm from New Hope, Alabama.

But I currently live
in Nashville, Tennessee.

I moved to Nashville
right out of college.

My goal was just to find work.

I'm here
at the Nashville airport.

I work at Ole Red
at the airport,

which is Blake Shelton's bar.

For the most part, it's just
running sound for the bands.

music all day long.

It's a great way to learn to see

how other artists
do their craft.

I've definitely taken
a lot from that.

One time I had somebody invite
me up to do some songs,

and the staff liked it,
and they started having me back,

do some regular slots there.

So, I moved kind of from being

behind the scenes
to on the stage.

We have beautiful mountains,

It's just small-town living.

This has actually been
the very first time

I have ever been
on the West Coast.

I tried In and Out.
Never had that.

It was real good.

I got started doing shows
by myself at 15 years old.

And then I opened myself up
to starting a band.

It was kind of crazy

when Makenzie was
touring with her band.

me and her dad were
definitely her roadies.

Just kind of made us appreciate
all the hard work.

We had so much fun together.

We traveled,
but it kind of got to a point

where I was playing at all
the same areas and I was like,

"I really want to
expand my horizons."

That's when we
ultimately decided,

"Let's move to Nashville."

In Nashville,
finances are different,

so your girl had to go and
find her a part-time job.

Currently on the final rotation
of the afternoon shift.

I work at a doggy daycare
boarding/grooming facility.

I'm very fortunate that my job

understands what I do
for a living,

so they are very,
very flexible with my hours.

Angel: To see her grow
with her songwriting,

getting to go to writers' rounds
in Nashville,

and she's getting this
opportunity to do this.

It's just... it's amazing.
