Drivers have gone head -to -head racing
for an individual championship.

But this year, we're doing something
we've never done before.

We have eight teams led by eight
captains.

This is no prep like you've never seen
it before.

The racing is more intense.

Everything that we're used to is no
longer. You got the money. That's the

important part.

And winnings are bigger than ever.

Pops are bigger. The cars are faster.

There's nearly a million dollars on the
line. Here we go.

National Trail Raceway. How you doing?

How's it going?

We're here at National Trail Raceway in
Hebron, Ohio, to kick off the sixth

season of No Prep Kings.

The championship series where racers
compete for a stack of cash across the

country. This is the first race of the
season. This kicks the season off. We've

been doing this No Prep series for five
years, and it's been an individual

championship the whole time.

You 32 guys are obviously the baddest on
the planet.

At each event, 32 drivers would race
round by round.

until there was one person standing.
It's so much money, I can't even get it

of my hoodie. And they would win that
$40 ,000.

$40 ,000, man!

Each round, racers would also gain
points. And the racer with the most

the end of the season would win the
championship and the grand prize.

Our first No Prep Kings champion was

Instead of an individual competition,
this year, the Drivers are competing on

team. with eight captains that draft a
team, and those captains are Ryan

Mike Murillo, Disco Dean,

Bodie, Justin Swamstrom, Ty Kelly,

Daddy Dave, and Murder Note.

We do have our drivers here on the
starting line.

We're going to start this driver's
meeting here momentarily.

Today is the qualifier round.

Are y 'all ready to draw chips?

All 40 drivers will get matched up, and
the drivers that win this first round

will qualify to race in the very first
points competition next weekend in

Virginia.

The most important thing for these team
captains is to get as many of their

drivers through this qualifier as
possible.

All right, everybody's got a chip. Where
are my number one?

I know people don't like to hear it, but
this is the biggest round of the season

because if you do not win one round a
day, your whole season is behind the

ball. All right, folks.

This is an elimination round.

There are a lot of really exciting
matchups in this qualifier round.

Damon Merchant from Team Bodie drew
Bodie's son, who was drafted by Team Kai

Kelly after his dad.

Didn't pick him up. We also have a
matchup between two new drivers to the

prep team with voting Nate Thaler going
against Marty Robertson on Team Disco.

Then we've got a race between two MPK
veterans.

Disco's number one draft pick, Jerry
Bird, is going against team captain

Dave.

And team captain Mike Murillo, who
struggled in the last few seasons of no

he's going against Axeman, who's driving
a brand new car.

I'm excited.

How do y 'all feel about this?

It's probably a team that nobody really
expected was going to be together. We

had a checklist of people, and you were
on there for sure.

You guys know I haven't performed well.

When it affects my team, you guys are
depending on me for points,

decision. We picked up Marty, right?
After that, we got a veteran here. We

Larry Larson. Everybody knows Larry
Larson. We got none other than Greg

Chandler, Twisted Metal. One unit trying
to chase a championship.

And we've got to do whatever we can to
win that championship.

All right, so is everybody happy about
the chosen ones to be on the team? Hell

yeah. Man, I think it's going to be a
good year. I think we've got a strong

team. Absolutely.

Y 'all are all running good.

My goal going into it, and I even told
Jim when I picked him first, I wanted to

get... three heavy hitters, and then the
final two were just going to be, you

know, try to go a couple rounds and do
good. We lucked out, and we got people

that can actually go rounds and work
out. So it's going to work in our favor.

like I did choose the right team to be

I'm going to be honest with you, I'm a
little nervous. I hate this first race

We don't have to race our way in. If you

hard to get back.

I've been in a position to where I did.

fall out of the points and I had to race
my way in. And it is extremely hard to

do that. You got to bust your ass and
you got to want it and work, work, work

get it back.

So I don't want my team to fall down
there into that.

I think we're going to be strong. I
think so. I think we're one of the

strongest.

Usually I've been the weak link.

Right now I feel like we have no weak
links. That's just how I feel. I feel

every car is capable of winning the
race. These guys are really smart, man.

They're determined. They all got fast
cars.

We're all pro -chargers, and these guys
like to strategize and figure out how to

get to the top. If anybody needs
anything, I got a full crew.

Anything in my trailer is yours, so just
holler.

I don't know you need it if you don't
ask.

There's a lot of fast cars this season.

Like, I don't think anybody slowed down.

It's one of them deals that I think that
we have a solid team, and all we got to

do is focus on one win at a time.

We may not have the same combinations.

We may not have really anything of the
same, you know, but we all have the same

want to win. We all have the same we
have something to prove.

And I don't think I could have chose a
better team.

I think we're going to be all right.

We got gangsters on our team.

I think our team, we got fast high rise
and we ain't got no quit. We're going

after that 200 ,000.

There's two races I always say, man,
these are some of the biggest races of

year. First one and the last one.

Really sets everything up. It's hard to
start from behind, and it's hard to make

up ground when you are behind. So
there's no points for today, but for me

team, it's going to set the tone for the
year.

If we get by tonight in the first round,
we don't have to race our way into

Virginia. You're already in for
Virginia. So it's key to get by the

Lumberton, Mississippi.

It's the first year I actually feel
confident coming to No Prep Kings.

I actually feel like I can f*** somebody
up.

I'm Randy Williams. I'm from Garden
City, Kansas, and I'm flying the 1970

Challenger.

First pass in a couple years.

It feels good to be back in the driver's
seat.

We have the capability of going all the
way to the winning circle.

I really need Randy to be competitive
and be one of the top five cars.

So I'm up on the starting line trying to
help Randy because he's on our team,

Team Murillo.

And I noticed that his car's not lined
up in the center of the racetrack, and

he's actually pointed a little bit to
the right. That's terrible because the

front tires basically don't touch the
ground until you get to the half -track

mark. So you've got to be pointed
straight or you will not make the trip.

called the Guardian.

Getting drafted by Swanstrom was a
surprise.

We are competitors.

He and I have had a lot of rivalry, and
we're going to continue to have rivalry.

I drew Bodie Sr.

There was a whole lot of draws I could
have had that would have been an easier

draw. So we're going to go up there and
swing for it. We'll see how it goes

tonight. I think we'll come out on top.

All right, next pair coming at you right
now over the left lane. That's going to

be Jim Howe going up against Bodie.

My name's Jermaine Bodie from
California.

I'm driving my 68 Camaro. I got a pro
-charge Noonan in there, and I'm ready

play. We're two of the fastest cars in
the field. We know it's with Jim Howe.

How fast that car is, you want fast cars
out here laughing, got to take him out.

All right, Jim Howell, get there first,
gets the win. Bodie has issues over

there in the right lane, has to get out
of it.

Didn't go as planned, man.

I felt like it just ended up. We knew we
was racing a fast car.

Tried to make a decision to turn it up,
and it didn't work.

You know what I'm saying? We knew Jim
and I was fast.

I watched him get out there. When we
left, he pedaled.

I wish I would have left the food up the
same so I could leave until it got down

and I'd have a chance to win. But we're
trying to go fast every race, so

hopefully next time we can get together.

You know, I know we're going to do
great. Number one, I think we've got a

My goal is to win it. Every time I go to
that line, I want to win.

I'm Chuck 55. I drive a red and white 55
screw -blown Chevy.

This year, we kind of changed our combo
up just a little bit. We went with a 4

.9. more space hemi with pjs racing
engines and we're looking to dominate

Chuck 55 went out there, and he pulled

As the team captain, I'm stoked about
it. Well, it feels good. We got off that

struggle bus we've been on, made it out
of first round. So we're in the show.

He has Lizzie Mucey first round.

So if we can't get a fix, that gives

I drive a 68 Camaro. We drew Lizzie
Mucey. We just went over that last test

against Dave.

It's going good.

The car started filling up with smoke,
and it kicked her out.

It's done. That motor's done, so we're
going to have to try to get it out, see

what we can do to get another motor
before next weekend.

For this weekend, we're done.

She was supposed to run Kyle Cannon, but
Kyle Cannon ended up breaking on the

test pass. This will be a by -run for
Lizzie Mucey.

I'm Lizzie Mucey.

I drive Bonnie, 68 Camaro, fuel
injected, 959, half music motor. It's a

car.

Kyle Cannon ended up breaking, and I was
able to get a buy room, which was

awesome. We definitely needed it because
we put in a new motor, and anything can

happen.

She will automatically be in the main
event tomorrow.

Because Kyle Canyon broke, Lizzie Mucey
has a buy.

That allows her to get some data, try
some things, knowing she already has the

win. It's good for Kai Kelly, but bad
for Daddy Dave, who has one less racer

going into tomorrow.

I'm driving a 1987 Chrysler Conquest
called Relic X2. It's a new build we

brought out for the MPK.

We were going to, man, but once we tore
it apart and we seen that the sleeve was

nicked, we go out for a test hit.

Chased some new car blues, apparently
still.

Thought we got through them. We had a
mechanical failure.

Well, man, it sucks.

You come out swinging hard, though.

Rankin, his little car was hauling ass,
but it burned a hole in the block and

the head. So it was unrepairable this
race.

He's already got it apart. He's over
there working his ass off. I feel like

he'll get it fixed by next week, but if
not, we'll throw him in a reserve pool,

grab somebody else out of there that can
make passes, and when he gets his car

fixed, I'll get him back.

We drew Chris Rankin. I know a little
bit about Chris Rankin. We've talked

before. He's told me about his combo.

Team Ty Kelly got the easy win with
Lizzie Musi's bye, but it's come back to

Ty Kelly has come in second to Ryan
Martin for the past three seasons, so

know he doesn't want to give him an
inch.

I'm Damon Merchant. I drive a 1968
Camaro we call Rogue. We originally

car for the street, brought it out a few
seasons ago, ran with the guys on it

for a while.

I think we've got something that can
compete.

We drew Bodie's son.

You know, my team captain, I shouldn't
have to say is there a conflict of

interest, but I do know that Bodie backs
that program money -wise, so it's a big

deal for us, but I don't think he really
knows exactly how fast the car is.

Bodie Jr., I'm from California. I drive
a 67 ProCharge Camaro.

Big tire, chassis car, three -speed, and
a 141 ProCharge.

I got Damon Merchant, first round.

Damon's always been fast, so he's going
to give me a good run.

If he go out there and make a move, I'm
going to just drive it. I got to do what

I need to do for my team.

I got to send this early message to my
dad to make him feel bad for not picking

me. So I got one of his teammates. I got
to knock him out, send him home.

My son over there, my teammate right

My son drew one of my guys.

I think my team is going to get the win.

We blew the head gasket right when we
started up getting ready to go up to

They're always a tough draw. We used to

They go to races, and they make people

I let go of the button, 60 -footed even.

You know, the car moved around a little
bit, but there was no way I was lifting.

I drove it to the finish line, and we
got that first win under our belt.

While team captain Bodie is out already,
he still has two drivers that are

Meanwhile, Team Kai Kelly already has
two drivers that have been eliminated.

Over the winter, we tweaked on every
part of this car.

Manny Alvarez over here in the left
lane. Scott Taylor from Team Mike

over there in the right lane.

Me and Mike Murillo have been friends
for years, and I think that was his go

because me and him get along really
great.

I drew Manny Alvarez. He has been making
waves, so I think it's a tough draw.

We're going to do what we got to do, and
we're going to go out there, and I'm

going to make a pass just like I was
racing Ryan Martin.

Over here in the left lane, Scott Taylor
from Team Mike Murillo over there in

the right lane.

You're killing it. You stepped right in
and started wheeling that thing.

Manny Alvarez, he drew Scott Taylor, and
Scott Taylor's a tough draw, you know,

so it is what it is. I'm still happy
with my picks. I think I got a solid

We just converted it over to a pro

I'm so happy with the way the car is.
Bringing this new car is performing

marvelously. This couldn't have started
off any better for me than this year

has. Like, Ryan chose us. This is going
to be fun. We're fired up. Time to go

racing as a team and do something great.

I have a 2014 CTS -V Cadillac powered by

Turbo 400.

This is the biggest round of the season
besides the last round. If you do not

win one round today, your whole season
is behind the eight ball. We're already

gelling as a team. We understand we put
the ego thing behind. First things

first, the egos are out the door. We're
trying to chase a championship as five

drivers get one championship.

Here we go. Mike Bowman from Team Bodie
in this left lane going up against Team

Captain Cisco Dean in the right lane.

I'm Mike Bowman from O 'Keele's,
California.

And I have the 68 Chevelle. I call it
Resurrection. We've got a pro -line

And we've got to race Kinky. We've raced

Actually, I don't even think I've ever
beat him, so tonight is my night. I know

he's going to be fast. We're fast, too,
so we've got a really good shot at

car, get your hands kicked, and then you

got to race your way in next weekend

Everything I've worked for and my team
has worked for, it feels like you just

doing wrong?

Like, I'm a good driver. My team's a
great team. My car's a good car, and I

can't get a wind light to turn on. Good

My name's Tony McKinney. I'm from
Farmersville, Ohio.

I'm driving a 66 Nova called Nova Cane.

You know, I was the last man standing as
far as it comes for teams. And the last

minute, you know, you're looking at the
12th hour.

It's nerve -wracking.

My gut dropped through my butthole.

Luckily, Justin and Jim, they saw
something in me that apparently nobody

sees. So I'm going to try to make them
proud.

Everybody in our crew is fast. They all
have something to bring to the table.

I am super excited that I am on that

We drew Larry Larson. He just now
switched over to a pro charger.

He's still struggling getting a handle
on it, so I think I've got to win there.

I've got to take out one of Dean's

I know Tony McKinney wants to beat Larry

We were struggling to get down the

around, and the car's running good. I
just think I'm inside my own head right

now. Trust me, nobody here is going to

loss sucked because now I've got to race

to get better on my end.

chutes, and when I threw the chutes, he

came around me.

It didn't turn out how I wanted it to

going down the track. I thought I felt a

put so much drag on the car. It allowed

to race your way in next weekend.

I feel good about going into this year.

I'm not going to sit here and say I got

That's one thing for sure.

We're coming into the season with a new
motor. Should be good for another couple

hundred horsepower.

Same pro chargers for the most part, but
a little bit smaller.

Me and B -Rad have raced a lot, so it
seems like I probably raced him ten

last year, and all ten of those times,
I'm nervous. He gave me fifth in Steel,

Alabama, which is close to the end of
the season last year. I really needed

win.

I let go of the button, and he was right
there, and he was right next to me the

entire time, and I edged him out at the
end.

That day, I respected B -Rad a lot, and
I realized when I race him, I've got to

be on my A game.

team captain and last season's

So I've always been known as the nicest
guy. Just for some reason couldn't get

it done the last three years in a row.
And it's number two.

And all the big boys say they use these
screw blowers. So here we are. We spent

a lot of money, a lot of work.

The screw blower itself costs about $35

Everything you put on it needs to be the
best of the best. You don't want to

take no shortcuts.

You know, you can come out here and take
shortcuts and be a half -assed guy, and

you can probably do it real cheap. But
you're going to a race knowing you can't

win, and that's something I'll never do.

I was coming into beams. Forgot to turn
my CO2 bottle on. Sunshine, my crew

guys, he's seen the gauge in the car
until he turned it on. Had he not done

that, we'd probably blew my motor up. He
saved my ass, so I owe him that one.

It had to be within a fender.

We were right there. Yeah, that was a
hell of a race. I don't know where we

This racetrack is extremely tricky, but
we kind of excel in those conditions.

Today is going to be super tough.

ever. We got Bowman, took on a big dog,

We welded on the whole panel this
morning, had a crack in it.

And when we put it back on, although we
put the plug in, we didn't tighten it

with the wrench.

We get back, it's unloaded all the oil
out of the pan by the time we stop down

there. But I knew it won, and we got the
problem taken care of. We're going to

move on to the next round.

today.

I know what tune -up I need to do and
where I need to be by the end of this

thing. The track's good, so we'll see
when I get up there, see if it'll take

enough to outrun Chuck.

driving that thing.

we've proven to a few people now that we
do have a hot rod.

We come out here, track's 100, almost
140 degrees.

We knew we couldn't run with what we did
last night because it'd be too greasy,

we was going to knock tires off.

It was kind of a crapshoot, and man my
tuner, he hit it right on it.

We left.

Brandon was actually a little bit ahead
of me, and he started spinning. He

overpowered it a little bit right there
on part of the track, and I came around

him, and we did what we had to do.

Made it happen.

We're pumped.

Round one today on Saturday, I get
Birdman.

Myself and Birdman have raced many, many
times.

A lot of times up against me, he'll
swing with the big bat. Sometimes he

the home run. Sometimes he doesn't. I
think the name of the game today is

managing the track temperature.

Track temperature is 130, 140 degrees.

It's going to be slimy. So while you
want to go out there and give it your

and put a hot tune up in it, it's
probably not something you can do. So

going to be conservative and just try to
stay out in front of it.

We're so far behind the eight ball on
testing with this car. We crashed right

before the event started, so we didn't
get any good data on it. So the best

thing we can do against Ryan Martin is
go down the racetrack.

If we go down the racetrack, as bad as
this sounds, I think in this heat, Ryan

is susceptible to making a mistake.

And it feels great to take Ryan out
today, and that's the goal. We're going

take him out.

Get the wind, had to pedal it on out
there. Well, Birdman looks like he had

shake right on the hit. Had to get out
of it.

Exactly what we thought would happen,
happened. Ryan went out there. He was

to beat today. He just was.

I treed the hell out of him.

Our boost controller went haywire.

Put in seven more pounds of boost than
what we were calling for.

We're doing something wrong. We don't
know what it is. So we're going to go

to the old waste gates to keep this from
happening again. Ryan earned the win

because he went down the racetrack.

We must have had a little bit too much
in it for these track conditions.

Luckily, we were still able to get
around Birdman, so we're off to the next

round. Ten cars left, ten fast cars
left. So we've got our work cut out for

but so does everybody else.

Felt like we went fast last night. That
was good.

I think we got a lot of attention out of
a lot of these veterans that have been

doing this a while.

Draw number nine, and we pick Lizzie.

She's, I think, been really high on
points every season that they've been

They're really game. They're really, you
know, setting their ways of going fast.

So this right here is going to tell us
exactly where we stack up coming into

this deal for sure.

The best thing that we can do is, you

So I ended up drawing Damon Merchant. We
are fourth pair out. I told him that

Hail Mary. So we just got to be on our
game and just do what we do.

I feel like I left on him on the light.

The car went straight as an arrow, and I
ended up getting there first.

I'm just happy we got that win, and
we're going to keep that momentum going

We ran right with her the whole way, it
felt like. And it looked like she had a

gun come on pretty late in the run and
just pulled out a little bit.

So the race with Lizzie didn't quite go

On the tree, I felt like we left

I pulled her through the middle, and
then that big nitrous motor started

on the big end. I started seeing her
kind of out on my peripheral, and then

started pulling on me. I could see the
gun.

turning on on that thing so we came up
just a little bit short um but it gives

me a good gauge of kind of where we're
at with this field we're still learning

this combination and it's just going to
take a little more time to get this

thing figured out where we can run with
these you know these elite cars that was

Everybody knows he's probably the
fastest car here.

I hope my reputation gets to his head

Kayla comes around me like I'm tied to a

stone. I hope I can do that for the rest

I just meet Kai Kelly, and it's becoming
habitual.

Seems like every time we line up, I have
the upper hand, and I love that. I love

that we're going in confident no matter
who we pick. I'm ready to take this

whole motherfucker.

If you just win this thing, no pressure.
If we don't, I don't know.

Like, we're good. I mean, I'm going to
give it my best shot.

Go get your pom -poms. I will be there,

My primer pump ain't working, but I
mean, it's the least of our worries. We

have any other issues.

It's not priming. Like, I don't know
yet. I'm trying to sort of diagnose it.

So right before that passed, we run into

car. The primer pump wasn't working.

I tried to shove a wire in front of
there that was broke, and it didn't

run it like it is 100%. Y 'all slow

I've got to keep on moving for our team.

We're going to go out there and give it
our best and see what happens.

The motor's wounded a little bit.

Hopefully we can make it through. This
thing is oiling like crazy out the left

side. It looks like a freight train, but
we ain't going to give up. We're going

to run it until it won't run no more.

Chuck made a good pass. You know, he
went down through there. He made a

lick. Scott just outran him. Looked like
his car was hurt. Still made a great

pass over there in that left lane.

Scott Taylor will move on to the next

I let go of the button. I think I was
with him until about 60 foot, and I

he pulled out on me a little bit.

I about got around him at the end.

He barely outran me.

We'll see him in Virginia.

I hope I get him again because I got a
little more for him.

It missed the shift wire to pull back
out that was broken during the tire

Luckily, I was able to reach over and
slap it in the next year.

So all we can do is keep plugging away.

transmission's wounded, so we got a lot

of work to do.

So, yeah, Daddy Dave had to take him out
in a new car, man. I hope, you know,

I'm trying to do good for you guys, my

of choices left when you rolled around,

but I'm glad I got you now. When I
rolled around, there was only eight

The second round, we went out and drew
Daddy Dave. Daddy Dave's been in this

game a long time. He's got a lot of, you
know, season laps under his belt, and I

want to go out there and beat him. Daddy
Dave's car might be broke.

I've seen him. He showed us some

I'm just going to go out there and try
to do the best I can do, drive the car,

and get it done.

Fine down low? Felt great. I looked

felt like we probably had the faster

and we had a good car all day. The car
worked really well, and we hopped it up

just a little.

And it just lost the tire. But the crazy
thing is where we hopped it up, it took

everything down low.

In the middle of the racetrack, it just
lost the tire. And we didn't turn it up

there, but it is what it is.
