Let's continue with the fixed range volume profile.
This is a type of profile that we use a lot as we will see below.
The fixed range volume profile is very versatile because it allows us to
manually draw profiles on any particular price action.
Unlike the other types of profiles, the fixed range is not updated and only
analyzes the volume traded in the range you define.
To access it, We simply go to the side menu on the left and select the item
Forecast and Measurement Tools, and then the drop -down menu appears and we can
find this tool at the bottom.
What we are going to do is draw the profile manually.
This type of profile will appear on the chart as soon as we make two clicks,
where the first click is to set the chart date and the second click is to
the end date.
This is the configuration I recommend for use.
It does not have many options.
We will set the row layout cell to number of rows.
The row size should be a high number. The more, the more detail we will have.
This is important because many analysts who use the volume profile do so with a
very large row size.
This does not make sense because it does not give us the detail of the zones and
levels. For the volume, we will select total and for the value area, we will
leave it at 70.
The style tab is less important.
as it simply allows us to change the way the indicator is displayed.
However, it is important that these inputs are enabled.
Here we see the importance of row size.
In the chart on the left it is set with a parameter of 5, while in the chart on
the right it is set with a parameter of 200.
What this input does is to group the volume according to the setting of this
parameter. Therefore, what we are interested in is that there are as many
horizontal lines as there are price levels.
so that we can see all the details.
This is very important because a wrong configuration will identify wrong or
inaccurate levels and can be vital for our analysis in trading.
The fixed range volume profile is particularly useful for identifying
zones in two types of contexts, trading movements and sideways ranges.
Here is an example of trading movements.
When we see a bullish impulse, we can run a profile of the entire move to
identify interesting zones where the price is likely to make a bearish
It is in these trading zones that we want to be prepared to evaluate the
possibility of entering on the trend movement.
In this example, we can see how the price, after completing the upward
makes a test on the VAH of the entire impulse, and from there it generates a
turn that causes the development of a new upward movement.
This is exactly the level where we want to wait for the price to try to join the
prevailing upward movement.
If what we have is the context of lateralization, an equilibrium zone, the
profile will be very useful to identify where the VPOC is that determines the
control of the market and the value zone with its extremes, VAH and VAL.
These will be very interesting to take into account when looking for different
trading opportunities.
In this example, we have a sideways zone.
Later, we will learn how to start this type of profile precisely, as it is
something that usually causes many problems for traders who use the volume
profile. Now, what is the purpose of drawing this profile in a sideways area?
Well, to identify the trading levels that we will take into account when the
breakout of the range occurs, with the aim of joining the trend movement that
has originated in it.
In this case, we see that the price breaks through the upper part. At this
moment, We have already identified the trading levels and our task as traders
to wait for the price to visit them in order to look for the appearance of our
entry trigger on them.
In the case of a bullish breakout, the levels we will take into account are the
value area high in the first place and the VPOC in the second.
We do not know above which level we will have our entry signal, if any, but our
task is to have both identified.
In this example, the price develops a test to the confluence area that was
created with these two levels, with the VAH and with the VPOC.
Just when this area is reached, a rejection occurs, which could be an
opportunity to enter the market to buy.
Later, in the section on the use of volume profiles, we will see more
of the use of volume profiles in these contexts.
