tonight.

Today we count down the very
best.

Moments.

Welcome to WWE greatest
moments I'm Michael Cole,

and on this edition, we
showcase the defining

moments of the most entertaining
and crude faction of all time-

D-Generation X.

Originally comprised of Shawn
Michaels, Triple H and Chyna,

DX debuted in 1997 and
immediately bucked the

system, pushing the envelope
with their sophomoric

shenanigans and lewd humor,

and in doing so became
trailblazers

that revolutionized professional
wrestling forever.

And our number ten spot on the
countdown the moment

that DX was born.

Bret Hart, obviously
you're not

in a very good mood
considering the antics

of Shawn Michaels and
Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

Would you care to comment?

We would love to comment.

Now before The Hitman
puts a sleeper hold

on this crowd and
puts them all to sleep.

We said what we wanted to say.

We were just going out there and
kind of being idiots.

Well, I got some footage for
you.

I don't want everybody to see
this because nobody knows

Canada like I knows Canada.

We were hell bent on making it
one way or the other,

and really didn't care if
we stepped on toes.

Really didn't care if we said
something inappropriate.

I'm younger than you.

Everybody's younger than him.

And I'm certainly bigger than
you-

in more ways than one.

Yeah, I can't say I liked it
the show was going to be all

about them and they minimized
everyone else

to entertain themselves.

I'll give Bret Hart credit
for basically naming DX

because Bret in a promo talked
about, you know what you are,

"You're just degenerates."

Why don't you two degenerates
come down here right now-

And that's where I remember
sitting there with Vince and was

like,"They are they're they're
degenerates.

They're D-Generation X."

DX was born.

D-Generation X is that us?

D-Generation X, we are
D-Generation X.

You make the rules and we will
break 'em.

Yeah.

As DX spread their wave of
immaturity across the WWE,

nobody fell victim to their
juvenile antics more

than WWE legend, an on screen
commissioner-

Sgt. Slaughter.

The Heartbreak Kid is going to
come out here and walk naked.

He's going to what?

They were funny things we
would do with Sarge because he

was the commissioner, and there
were some things that I would

think to myself, "Maybe I
shouldn't go there.

It might be a little bit too
far."

Bring that big, huge chin down
here.

Then Sarge would come over
laughing and say something ten

times worse to me and say, "You
should say that you."

Hold on, hold on.

You're out there doing promos
with him on a weekly basis,

and you know, there's a bit of
spittle.

Saliva flies out of my mouth.

I can't help it.

My bite.

I got a terrible bite.

It's one of those situations
where you go,

"Am I the only one that's
feeling that or?"

So we wanted to take that
as far as we possibly could.

Let me get this
straight again.

What are these two degenerates
up to now?

And that's what made him so
fantastic

that you can do
something like that.

He rolls with it and gets a kick
out of it.

Thinks it's funny.

Okay, we're ready.

It's a sophomore class field
trip.

A lot of people hated the
windshield wiper thing

when we did it.

Like, I just thought it was
crossing a line-

disrespectful and childish.

Sarge thought it was the
funniest thing he'd ever seen.

It took everything in my power
not to laugh in their face.

It was the most hilarious thing
that I've ever seen in my life.

Poor Sgt. Slaughter was
always the butt of DX's jokes.

One night, when the Sarge tried
to stand up to these

degenerates, he quickly learned
DX doesn't follow the rules.

You're either going to defend
that title here tonight on Raw,

or I'm going to strip you of
that title here tonight on Raw.

Your opponent tonight will be-

Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

The European Title is on the
line.

And D-Generation X may be
coming apart at the seams.

Well, I was definitely
excited.

Everybody was waiting for that
moment, you know what I mean?

And they did make it look like
they are going to fight.

I can't wait to see when they
finally lock up,

when they finally start
tearing at each other.

What kind of accident we're
going to see out of this match.

Wait a minute.

What the?

I'm pretty sure they did a
couple of

jaunts across the ring.

Was Michaels just lying there?

It's a mockery.

And then there was a big, big,
big move that took Shawn down.

Oh.

It was a ruse.

Hunter and Shawn celebrated
like they won the world title,

but it was the European title.

This is the greatest moment of
my life.

Yo, Sarge.

I did it.

This is just another example
of them getting over

on authority and outthinking the
authority.

Slaughter-

Standing there with egg on his
face.

It's nice to have the European
Championship,

but if you can share it with a
friend- better.

Raging Against the Machine was
the name of the game

for D-Generation X always
wreaking havoc in WWE.

Oh my God.

Oh my God King.

And our number seven moment DX
took their obnoxious pranks

to new heights atop WWE
headquarters.

Oh, hey, Vince.

Weird, you're there.

We're here.

Huh?

Here-

Right on top of the World
Wrestling Entertainment's

world headquarters.

You're supposed to be at the
airport damn it.

We are D-Generation X, and if
you're not down with that-

Then we've got two words for ya.

Oh my God.

But they did like-

How- physically,

how did they spray paint a
huge DX-

The two of them?

I remember being a kid just
thinking that just couldn't wrap

my head around it.

Mr. McMahon is visibly shaken.

We had giant sheets that would
like unfurl coming down

from the top of the building.

And then you spray painted the X
on there and.

That was a blast, you know

we could do whatever we wanted.

We just had fun.

We were working with Vince and
Shane and doing huge business.

Look at the top of the
building.

The full moon is out.

That was the genius of
D-Generation X.

It's all about doing things that
you want to do

that you're not supposed to do.

DX has done irreparable damage
to the boss.

I think DX- I think
they've broken me.

With the WWE universe all in
on the fun.

DX would make quite a production
of their antics

for our number six moment.

Hunter, it's Vince's
production truck.

The whole show is controlled
from in here.

Getting to see them sort of
ruin this show and run roughshod

over Raw, which just TV we had
never seen before.

Which button did he tell you
not to push?

No, no.

Please.

That one, that one.

Push it.

No.

It was driving Vince McMahon
crazy.

I'm gonna take care of DX.

I can guarantee you that.

No one is going to embarrass me
like that ever again.

No one ever is going to-

Anytime you get them around
production in a truck, backstage

or something, you can be sure
you're-

you're going to get
some shenanigans.

And and specifically that night,
you got some.

Damn what you people think
this is funny.

I'm not Alvin the chipmunk.

They stuff they used to pull
back then,

um, you know, with the
production and things like that

were just so entertaining, and
it was just so outside of the

box and all of those things.

They were sort of like the
lovable bullies.

This was part of the charm of
DX.

Open up.

Oh.

Uh oh.

Hello.

We return to the countdown
with our fifth selection

of the greatest moments in
D-Generation X's history.

Now, over the years, DX's
founding members would invite

various superstars to join their
crotch chopping faction.

But in 1998, DX shocked the WWE
universe

when they unveiled their
newest member.

Ladies and gentlemen,
"Iron" Mike Tyson.

The entire world of sports
came to a halt when the baddest

man on the planet
entered the war zone.

Whoa, here we go.

Austin and the Tyson thing and
it was huge.

He's one of the most famous men
on the planet.

I don't know that there was a
place in the world that didn't

know who Mike Tyson was.

And Ty Cobb's open-

Mike doing great, having fun,
being a part of this promotion.

And what I'm doing right now.

I am calling your ass out right
now,

right here, boy.

Obviously, involvement with
Tyson made this thing huge.

You want to do it?

Let's do it right now.

Here we go.

I'll tell you what-

when he and Shawn was squaring
up in the ring, I was like,

"He's going to kill
Shawn Michaels.

Oh my God."

Well, this is not sanctioned

Uh oh.

Wait a minute.

What?

Don't tell me that Mike Tyson
has joined D-Generation X.

We had made Mike Tyson a
member of DX.

"Oh my God, how could you do
that?"

We're hoodwinked.

This crowd is still stunned.

Oh, no.

The baddest man on the planet is
part of DX.

You know the most degenerates on
the planet.

We're on top of the world.

It's just electricity.

It was-was awesome.

I still get this-

"Take a picture
like this, Mike."

I loved it.

It turned out to be the
biggest hoax

that I've ever seen
in wrestling.

Mike Tyson has joined
D-Generation X.

Chaos followed DX wherever
they went.

So it was no surprise that just
weeks later,

Tyson would turn on DX at
WrestleMania 14.

Tyson.

Tyson.

With that loss, Triple H
accused Shawn Michaels

of dropping the ball and
ejecting him from the faction.

HBK-

You dropped the ball.

And now the ball is in my court.

And our number four moment,
the self-declared new leader of

DX, was ready to bolster his
army.

Triple H of DX is
going to make

a major announcement
here tonight.

At that point, I'm still seen
as secondary to Shawn.

There were conversations that I
knew that were happening

of like "Can he do that on his
own?"

Tonight, live

in front of the world.

I form the DX Army.

An army to take care of
business

that should have been taken care
of right from the start.

What's he saying JR.

And when you start an army,
you look

to the Kliq.

What?

A new day is dawning for DX.

You cannot replace the Shawn
Michaels and I didn't.

I was just me.

And I was having a great time
and people got with it.

This is a new beginning

for D-Generation X.

There are numerous people now
pitching ideas

to want to be a part of DX.

From our standpoint, Billy and
Road Dogg were two guys

that would kind of fit.

I mean, it just all worked.

And it wouldn't have worked
with anybody else.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and
girls, children of all ages.

None of us had the star power
that Shawn Michaels had,

but all three of us kind
of made up for that.

And it was a different dynamic.

The number three moment of the
countdown,

the moment that wrestling
fans had long dreamt about

Monday Night War rivals DX and
WCW's nWo in the same ring

for an epic showdown on
the biggest stage.

What an absolutely
historic moment.

That match was unreal.

And for the first time ever at
WrestleMania, the match we

never, ever thought we'd see
Triple H and Sting one on one.

It involved legends from a
bygone era,

factions from a bygone era.

Oh my god, it's DX.

What?

DX came out and I could feel
that rush in the whole deal, and

it started to become more of the
WCW versus WWE.

Sting what are you doing?

Sting jumping on top of all of
DX?

That's something we thought
we'd never see.

When the nWo music hit.

Oh my God.

As long as I kept the game
face on, I'd have to just be a

fan and just sit there.

The New World Order.

A lot of that was like dream
scenario,

like nWo versus DX.

The Monday Night Wars have
come to WrestleMania.

Truly talked to the rivalry of
WCW and WWE.

Shawn Michaels, Sweet Chin
Music.

I think it helped the match
and I think it was a huge

moment, and I'm so proud of
being a part of it.

Shoulders down and The Game
prevails.

There's a 15 year old kid
inside of everybody.

That's what all of that was.

It is real, raw emotion.

Look at these personalities,
look at these superstars

in this ring at the same time.

Was that acknowledgment on our
end of forget the characters?

This is awesome for us.

What an absolutely incredible
moment.

D-Generation X was often
called the most controversial

group in WWE history, but their
juvenile antics also created

some of the most hilarious
moments in WWE.

As DX evolved over time, one
thing remained the same.

DX never took no for an answer.

Viewer discretion is advised-

But will be completely
ignored.

And that was made clear from
the very beginning,

when network television
executives tried to censor

the unpredictable and at times,
raunchy behavior

of D-Generation X.

Good evening, my fellow
Americans.

This past week, D-Generation X
was informed

that TSN, Star TV,

Sky Sports and
USA network is

drawing the
line on standards

and practices as it relates
to WWE programing

and D-Generation X.

It was our understanding that
the USA network not being happy

with some of the things that we
had done on television.

We will only use ass, damn, and
hell.

And we thought like,"Okay,
this is fantastic,

let's push this
envelope."

We promise there will be less
[bleep] references.

Ah [bleep].

It was just the right thing
for that time period.

It was perfect.

Watch your [bleep] mouth.

Well [bleep] me.

.

I was glued to the TV
watching, thinking this is a

moment that's going to stand the
test of time because they're

doing something that they're not
supposed to do.

We will have less references
to our enormous genitalia.

I remember getting a call, hey,
just heard from USA,

and I was like,"Okay."

And then, like, "They loved it."

I did not sleep with that
young intern.

As a matter of fact, I was
up all night.

So here we are, the number one
DX moment in our countdown.

At the height of the Monday
Night War between WWE and WCW,

D-Generation X would break
ground

by marching into
enemy territory.

It's got to be here.

Making WWE true must see
television.

D-Generation X
proudly

starts the war
against WCW.

Go.

WCW is trying to hurt business.

We booked TV at a venue,

then they booked the Scope.

Right?

Just down the road.

And things are thrown out,
like-

"We should go down there and
do something

live in their parking lot."

D-Generation X and the World
Wrestling-- are in town.

When we got there,

it was craziness.

The people just went nuts.

Bischoff sucks.

Bischoff sucks.

D-Generation X, the only group
in the world with the cojones

big enough to come to the front
line.

And who rules the world of
professional wrestling?

DX.

Yeah

Of course it was really gutsy
and it was really cool.

We had a blast that day doing
that.

We stand now at your door,
knocking on that door

to let us in.

It's hard for people today to
understand

how insane doing that was.

It was so like, "Holy [bleep]."

Knock knock knock WCW.

If you open the door,

we'd like to ask you a couple
of questions.

Woo hoo.

Woo hoo.

If they would have opened that
door, I probably would have run

as fast as I could.

Somebody said, "What if they
try to do the same thing

back to us?"

"Open up the garage
doors.

Let him in.

What show are you going to
watch?

The one with all the wrestlers
or the one

with none of the wrestlers?"

And I remember thinking at that
moment, like,

"This is why we're going to
win."

That's genius.

No way they would have ever
thought about doing that.

Who rules professional
wrestling?

DX.

DX is daring breach into WCW

Battlegrounds remain a landmark
moment that captivated wrestling

fans around the world, fueled
the WWE resurgence

to Sports Entertainment
supremacy.
