Foodie left Cairns
with his triple trailer load

one day ago, travelling
north to Cape York.

He's now battling the rough
dirt road that leads to the Jardin

River Ferry, the only place
his truck can cross the river.

Then it's a number harsh
42 kilometre stretch of

dirt to deliver the freight
to his hometown, Bamaga.

We've stopped piling gas for the
wet season. We're going to be five

cuts cut off up here so we need
to build up a big supply of gas.

We supply the hospital.
They rely on us heavily for gas.

And we picked up two
very heavy isotone of the

cement powders for
local building products.

We're meant to unload
first light tomorrow morning.

We don't do that. We're holding
up a whole concrete organisation.

We're holding up about
half the contractors.

To unload at first light tomorrow,
Foodie must get across the river today.

The ferry is only 120 kilometres away,
with four hours left before it closes.

That in Outback Cape York, 120 kilometres
in four hours is a daunting challenge.

Welcome back to the tower gate.

Already we're back down
to two kilometres an hour.

We're looking for what's
in front of me there.

I think I might just make a
cut to the other side of the road.

So we're now blocking the entire
road. I've got two trailers on that side

and I've got a prime mover and a
lead trailer on this side of the road.

So just hoping nobody covers Roy
around the corner here at the moment.

Welcome to Cape York Peninsula.

We've been seeing some pretty
horrendous bloody corrugations back there.

Shaking ourself to pause
us a bit, so we need to go

back there and have a damn
good look at us going on.

That's real shit.

You see the height of this is
coming down, see where it was.

Somewhere in the corrugations, this whole
pack of nine bottles are going like this.

You check this, not even remotely tight.

This bottle here has
rotated a hundred mil at some

stage and that's putting a
lot of stress on these pipes.

But this rotation
they're doing, they're

going to snap all these
copper tubes in here.

The gas can leak.

The worst case scenario
is you get a spark or

something, you get to have
a bloody magic catastrophe.

I'm getting too off of this
sort of shit, but anyway, I

guess we'll keep doing it
because we don't know any better.

We're still 76 Ks out from the ferry.

I've now lost precious time.

The businesses that
are relying on us, if we

don't get them gas, then
their business fails too.

Bekeeping trucker Tim Holt is
taking on the biggest load of his career.

Tonight we'll be glading about 430 hives.

Your time's up by 50,000,
there's a fair few bees on board.

We'll have, once we're
laid with the two trucks

and trailer, about 21
million bees on board.

This is our hive layer, so this goes
under each hive that cleats its on here.

When I sit one hive up on top of the other
one and then lay it two at a time with it.

Transporting bees, it's as
lethal as a layer of petrol.

It's about that many bees on
board while stinging at a depth.

Just smoke a mess, you're stacking them?
Yeah.

Who puts smoke on
the bees just so it calms

them down and only
for a brief period of time.

It doesn't hurt the bees
at all, it just calms them.

Usually we travel probably
600 kilometres from home.

Tonight tomorrow's trip will be about
1200 kilometres from here to Alstonville.

After loading up the 21 million
stinging insects in Hillston,

Tim will transport the deadly
load almost 1200 kilometres.

Through the mountainous,
great dividing range to

their destination, a
macadamia farm at Alstonville.

We've got 48 hours, flowers
are coming out on the macadamia

trees, flowers only last
up there about three weeks.

Every day that we're missing
out, we're missing out on

honey, we're missing out on
getting an income off the bees.

The biggest trip I've ever done, I haven't
travelled this far with bees before.

There you are, there's the first
thing I've just got, went on in the eye.

They're just settling in.

They just find them somewhere to
land because their home's been moved.

Part of the job is you take and get
them stung by bees, don't be a beekeeper.

Oh, no!

Tim's business depends on the
bees producing honey to sell, and

fees he charges orchards for
the bees' pollination services.

She has been very hard
for every beekeeper in and

around Australia,
especially with Varroa might.

First detected in Australia in 2022, the
Varroa might can devastate bee colonies.

To limit the bug spread, Australian
states have introduced strict

quarantine laws, putting immense
pressure on Tim's business.

You're not allowed up into Queensland
or in Victoria borders being closed.

It's been a very stressful
year and we want to try and

get out and make a bit of
money and make a bit of honey.

You've got to follow that front one around.

We get a little bit over
$80,000 for doing the job.

I mean, that's only
just going to cover some

of the running costs
for the last 12 months.

It's not, I wouldn't say
it's a profit in any way.

Dan is a pretty good mate of mine, but he's
only hasn't worked for us for a long time.

He's been with us for about 12 months.

The worst thing you can happen when
you're transporting bees, I suppose, is if

you're lost a load of your boxes and they
all fly out and you get stung to death.

It's only 18 tonne, which will probably be
about 10 tonne, 12 tonne out of the dolly.

Relating two, two buses go
out to Nalaboy, save them driving

out the roads way to rough the
corrugations, the bulldust holes.

They're a very precious cargo,
cargo damage in them in any way.

Darren Hibbo Hibison has
a triple trailer load to haul

out to one of Australia's
most remote towns, Nalaboy.

These buses in Hyde to Bend out there.

There must be a lot of
tourism going on out there

at the moment, so we're
actually running these out.

On top of $320,000 worth of buses,
which must be delivered without a scratch,

Hibbo has the time critical
task of getting a full trailer of

perishable goods to the remote
northern territory outback community.

We've got the fridge
van that I'll get loaded with

chiller produce for the
supermarket at Nalaboy.

Obviously, I'd get a .8-point B in
good condition, and the rest is good luck.

Anyone can come and stop on that road.

I'm talking about the Central Arnhem
Road, which is pretty extreme at times.

From Darwin, Hibbo must
head south on the Benjamin,

before turning onto the notorious
Central Arnhem Highway,

a rough, ragged, brutal
dirt track running almost

700 kilometres to the
tiny community of Nalaboy.

Let's get moving.

Hibbo's one of our seasoned
vets, for sure. We take pride in

making sure that the products
actually arrive in good condition.

We don't lose any of our loads on the side
of the road, and Hibbo's all over that.

He's got a great reputation for making
sure that everything arrives intact.

But it is a refrigerated
trailer that Hibbo has for this

particular run, so it's really
important that he keeps to his times

so that the temperatures of those
refrigerated trailers stay in good condition.

It's pretty much work.
I live in a truck seven days a week.

She's got the
16th studio sleeper.

It's pretty much a really
nice home away from home.

Most trucks have a nickname.
For some AV reason, I don't

know how to come about,
but I end up calling it Vivian.

Vivian is a 2019 Kenworth C509,
with 600 horsepower, an extra-large

sleeper cabin, and is rated to a
gross vehicle mask of 140 tons.

She holds 2,000 litres
of fuel, so she'll get

me out to know and going
back quite comfortable.

We're actually turning off the Stuart
Highway onto the central Arnhem Road.

And that's where the
fun starts on the dirt.

Welcome to the red dirt, literally out back
in Australia. Pretty isolated out here.

There's nothing here on him.

Now we've done 10 Ks. We've just got
to go and double check all those chains.

We're up to running this much

just going back to about four Ks an hour.

So it makes you wonder, how do we
get 700 Ks from Darwin down to here?

It's a fine-sensitive freight,
doing four Ks an hour.

that chiller, a lot of produce.

So if it goes bad, you're
talking about big dollars.

We've got Debbie's gas lines back there.

Before we're coming through,
burning fast towards the road.

They're going for their
life, trying to catch the ferry.

The tourists, they're following our 14
pallets of LPG, gas through a bushfire.

So that'll make them surely
make them a bit nervous.

We've got a slight westerly drift at
the moment that's pushing the flight.

After narrowly avoiding a
deadly bushfire, foodie is

desperate to make the last
ferry across the Jardin River,

which leaves at 5 p.m. sharp, or risk

The road's fairly narrow.

If you tip it into a ditch,

There's a lot of loose gravel.

That's how I can feel myself,
lose a good bit of traction.

With that chill event, everything
inside that van has a use by date.

I think it is critical that
we do get it there on time.

Hibbo is wrestling his 53.5
metre long triple road train

through one of Australia's
most treacherous roads

on a mission to get vital supplies
through to the remote town of Nullenboy.

It gives you options, history.

You choose corrugations.

You choose bulldust holes.

Or you choose rock.

Hibbo has chosen the bone
rattling, rotted corrugations.

To do 48k's of dirt, which we've done so
far, it's taken us four and a half hours.

That's pretty much average
speed of around eight K now.

Hang on yourself, there's a
big bull in the lost hole right here.

That... What's down
on the bridge here?

Oh, shit, he's breaking, dude.

That would happen, wet season.

Just a few months ago,
the central Arnhem Road

was battered by almost two metres of
rain during the last monsoonal wet season.

This whole road, like, you've
got to be on the ball all the time.

We'll stop up here and
cook up my lunch/dinner.

Oh, I've got a choice of
pork ribs or beef sausage.

I might just choose a beef sausage.

It's nice and easy to cook up.

It's a good thing we have water on Sandboy.

and we have this year
for the first time ever.

Calling 21 million bees more than 1,000
kilometres is a massive logistical challenge.

When we get to pulling into
the fuel station, I'll let you go first.

Just getting fuel up, jumping the truck
and drive off of already running ahead

and tell them what you'd be
doing, so they're aware of it.

Then I said, "I'm going to
pay for once I feel my truck up.

" I ain't like pulling up and
feeling up in the middle of the day,

but sometimes you got it
when you're getting low on fuel,

you haven't got a choice,
you can't run on fresh air.

The worst thing in damage, you
can lose a lot of bees and they

get all, you know, leaned on
the bowser and get people stung.

You don't want to get people stung.

That's the worst thing that can
happen in this first money event.

But I can't stress enough for
these criggers you can't eat every.

Maybe you're travelling,
you won't lose in too many.

As soon as that truck's stationary,
that's when they start flying.

sludge in your fuel filters,

and I'm pretty much guaranteed
when I take the secondary fuel filter off.

ugly looking substance in the filter.

Loaded with critical supplies for
one of Australia's most isolated towns,

Foodie's 27-year-old
truck has called it quits,

putting him at risk of failing
to meet his delivery deadline.

This morning, in around
about two hours' time,

we were going to be delivering this
lead trailer with the cement powder in it.

We've certainly put that in jeopardy unless
we can get a quick solution here somewhere.

Perry's going to be open soon,

and we're not going to
be honoured, apparently.

Probably caused by a
crack in the pickup lines here.

Inside the truck's
fuel tanks, pickup lines

suck up the fuel and
deliver it to the engine.

If there's a crack in a pickup
line, when the fuel is low, air

bubbles can enter the line, which
prevents the motor from firing.

The tanks are very low at the moment.

We've chewed up about 1,300
litres of diesel in the last 700 Ks.

So, I'll be making phone
calls to see whether

we might be able to
just borrow some fuel.

Hopefully, that'll solve the problem.

Q, mate, you're walking
into equal problems here.

Q's an aspiring young truck
driver who helps us out a bit.

He's coming out this morning
to give us a hand as well.

but it's more of a go track.

I actually look forward to
getting the truck and trailers dirty.

So it gives me excuse
to watch it again sooner.

From top to bottom, there's no room at all.

At the moment, we're 120 Ks out of
Nulliboy. We call this 120 K jump up.

Last triple actually lost traction.

There's a lot of stuff in that chiller.

because they'll be
where they've got to be.
