Rex Riles is racing the clock on a mission

to get through Australia's desolate red center

for a critical deadline.

I think this job is part of a serious

setup to keep some communities going through the wet season.

What it is is an oversized fuel tank that's

going into a little community called Ringers soak out

the back of Halls Creek.

Legendary 73 year old trucker Steve Graham has a

massive oversized load to deliver to a remote community

in the tropical north west of Australia.

These people know you weren't around low on fuel last year.

You know, they've got to keep bridges andidges running

like any other little town.

These tanks got to get there and set them

up for a wet season.

Once the wet comes in properly, they're isolated.

They need their 84,000 litres of diesel on the ground,

keeping their gen sets going.

So we've got no choice. We've got to do the job now.

The wet's coming.

Up.

I'm here to bring a soak out of the whole street.

And to get to bring a soak, I've got to go out the Duncan Road.

From his base in Perth, Steve will like the tank almost 3,000 kilometres along the way.

turning off at Halls Creek onto the rugged dirt

You have to meet with this crane at the

end of the Tanamaru.

The crane is being used to install identical fuel

tanks in two other remote communities in the Tannamide

Desert just before Steve arrives.

They come back out of the Tannamide road,

meet me and we go out the Duncan Road

the other way out the Maccaball Street and unload me.

So it's all got to go like clockwork because

that big crane costs big bucks.

load coming down the hill on 3.5 wide.

during the working week when everyone is trying to

make a dollar.

House Hall of Jack McCray is about to set

sail on a high-stakes job with a difference.

other end as long as these guys can do

the trip safely and not hit anything, then it

will be a way.

How's this easier?

Boats look a lot more stressed.

From the manufacturers in Coulomb Beach, Jack must weave

the $3.5million boat through narrow streets to the M1.

Then push on down the highway, avoiding low bridges and

guardrails before squeezing it through tight city streets to

unload on the Brisbane River.

The supersized load requires a police escort paid by the hour.

Any delays will cost Jack's company money.

So yeah, it's not a cheap exhaust.

The trailer is fully hydraulic so lowest we can

go is 900dc up to 2.7.

The $1.2million lift trailer has independent steering

on each axle and is also able to catapillar

using a hydraulic ram mounted on the truck.

We've got a remote from our trailer and then

another remote from the ram on the truck to

that's how we jig a little in the north and slowly.

essential for providing power to a remote community.

But the crane required to lift the tank could

be delayed,

costing Steve precious time and money.

have some mechanical problems.

This morning there was absolutely no sign of any

problems with the crane the levers are just stressing and worrying

and what's going on and all I can do

is get to the top of the tent of

my road and wait.

We've got a quad to deal with here apart

from this beautiful scenery.

They're coming at you every five seconds.

You know you're on that big conveyor belt,

grinding this way into Port Hadland with thousands upon

of the thousands of tons of iron ore rolling

down the road towards that port.

and bring the cable in and out.

They control the steering on the crane.

They've got no choice.

It's got to cost two days.

Couple of trips in and out.

So that will have me sitting here for a couple of days.

After a day, it starts to cost me money.
