[narrator] Britannia.

Once before in this realm,

the Holy Knights of the Kingdom of Liones staged a coup d'état,

sparking what eventually became a Holy War

between the goddess and the demon races.

But thanks to the emergence of the legendary heroes

known as the Seven Deadly Sins,

the catastrophic war was brought to an end.

This story takes place 16 years after those events.

[theme music]

A SINISTER ENDEAVOR

[Sin] Tomorrow will be rough too.

Get a good night's rest so you aren't fatigued in the morning.

How am I supposed to go to sleep when my body is buzzing with excitement?

Well, let's come up with a fun topic to talk about before bed!

Good idea! What kind of topic you're thinking?

How about we all try to brainstorm some cool names for my sword

and figure out what my special move will be called?

[quirky music]

[all hesitate]

[Anne] You know, I think I am sleepy after all.

-[Donny] See you in the morning. -[Percival] Huh?

[Nasiens] Percival, we can get together sometime

and find the perfect name.

[Percival] Whoo! But when though? Tomorrow? Tomorrow...

[wind howling]

[Sin] Is someone...

Now then, who might you be?

[inaudible]

[angry grunt] And how did you know my name?

[suspenseful music]

[gasps]

[all snoring]

[Sin] Was she...

a bride?

[snoring continues]

[Nasiens groans tiredly] Climbing up a mountain

first thing in the morning really takes a toll on you.

We're almost at the summit.

[Percival] Here we go!

Let's sprint all the way to the top, you guys!

[both laughing]

[Donny] I won't let you beat me!

[wind gusting]

[all panting]

We made it! We're here. [chuckles]

-[Percival] Whoo-hoo! -[all panting]

[Donny chuckles]

[Anne panting] So boys, how is it?

Can you see Liones from there?

[all gasping]

[comical music]

Liones' will be about a four-day-long trek around the mountain.

So brace yourselves.

[all exclaim] Four days?

Let me apologize in advance.

Knowing me, I think it might take double the amount of time.

That's okay. I can give you a piggyback ride!

[Nasiens] Percival!

So what are we looking at?

Uh, clearly a village!

Yeah, over there! It looks like they noticed us.

Is it just me or do they seem a little off?

They're giving me the creeps.

I sense magic coming from the entire village.

An eerie village with a mysterious magical aura!

Yeah, but it's still a village, and that means grub.

Kind of interesting if you ask me.

[both grunt]

[Donny] Yeah!

-Finally gonna drink some ale. -Hey! You guys!

[Donny laughing]

[man] Hold it, folks, what you doing around here?

[gasps] Who are you?

You best not go any farther.

That village there is dangerous.

-[both gasp] -[Sin grunts]

[both panting]

[Sin] Ugh, they're such troublemakers!

Sin, wait!

Don't go! You ain't gonna be able to come back either.

-What do you mean by that? -What's going on in that village?

That place there ain't no village at all.

[man] It's a den of monsters!

[both gasp]

[both panting]

[Percival] Uh, look, look!

I didn't know there were so many people here!

[uneasy music]

Yeah, and they're giving us such a warm welcome too!

Hiya! My name is Percival!

And I'm on my way to the Kingdom of Liones!

My friend and I are feeling a little thirsty.

Does this village have somewhere we can get a cold drink?

-[village chief] We don't have eateries... -Huh?

...but we do have a drink that we make in our village.

We welcome you, my young travelers.

-[dog panting] -I hunt around here. The name's Ardd.

This here is my little buddy, Kellie.

And together, it's our job to patrol and watch over this area

and discourage folks from approaching that village.

But what exactly did you mean

when you said that village is a den of monsters?

[Ardd] What do you mean, "What do I mean?" It's just as I said.

There never was a village there in the first place.

But a little over ten years ago, them bastards came from who knows where

and just started making themselves at home.

It's true, the village has an odd atmosphere,

but they seem like normal humans to me.

I saw it with my own two eyes!

[Ardd] The moment a villager stepped outside the village,

he transformed into a monster!

Also, all of the travelers who visit that village

vanish right out of thin air,

-just like that. -[both gasp]

Anyway, you mustn't get close to it!

Yeah, but we have to.

We need to inform the others as quickly as possible!

No, you can't! It ain't safe!

If that's true, then we should go!

Our friends are in danger! We can't just stay here and do nothing!

You need to tell us everything you know about that village!

[hesitates]

[loud laughing]

[Donny breathing heavily]

Hmm. It tastes pretty good, all right,

but it's that flavor, really kind of distinct, you know?

The villagers were inspired by a drink in Britannia for this particular brew.

You don't often see a drink this color.

But I think I kinda like it.

[gulping]

[Donny exhales, laughs]

[laughing]

When everyone's smiling around you, it makes you want to smile with them tool!

I know, but everyone sure is quiet here.

It's just that they can't speak the language of Britannia.

Will it be all right if you can't communicate through words?

Even if we aren't able to talk with words,

we can become friends

when we can connect with each other's hearts!

[laughs] Well said, Percy!

[Percival] Grandpa told me that's what he thought

when he was raising me as a baby on his own!

-I bet your grandpa would be proud. -[Percival laughs]

[Percival] If you try hard enough, you can make as many friends as you want.

-[Donny] True that. -[Sin] Hey, old man.

[suspenseful music]

Wanna tell me who you really are?

I know you've been having your spies tail us ever since we left Cant.

Are you after Percy, the fragment of the Coffin of Eternal Darkness,

or the whole lot?

All the people in this village are pretty nice, aren't they, Sin?

[Percival] I wonder what Anne and Nasiens are up to.

They should be chowing down with us!

[munching continues]

And I really can go for some more meat while you're at it!

[both chuckling]

[in English] I must say I'm impressed.

You managed to see through my disguise, didn't you?

It would appear such a long journey has tuckered out the fox.

So can you see what they've got surrounding the entire village?

[Ardd] Those bastards will never step outside the perimeter.

Because they'll revert to their original forms if they do.

[Nasiens] So, does that mean it's some kind of barrier?

He's the old man who's so much bigger than everybody else there.

Well, in that case,

luring them outside the village probably isn't an option for us.

Our target will be the village idol.

[Ardd] See that strange-shaped rock? The one at the center of the village?

Judging by how often I've seen them cleaning that thing,

it's gotta be pretty important to them.

Right! So then we'll shatter it, and then the whole village will be in an uproar.

Exactly! That's when we'll run in and rescue those friends of yours!

-I'm not sure it'll go that smoothly. -[Anne] Nasiens?

Don't you worry!

It'll be my job to distract the villagers.

That way, the two of you can sneak in without them noticing.

Yes, but If you do that, you'll be putting yourself in danger.

So why would you go to such lengths to help us?

You know, he does make a good point.

[Ardd grunts softly]

Well, I suppose, we did only meet just a bit ago.

-So I can see why you're skeptical. -[nervous breathing]

[sighs] I have a young daughter to get back to.

[Ardd] She's got some beautiful blue hair, kind of similar to yours, Anne.

-[baby giggling] -Her name is Connie.

[gasps]

We were leading a happy life together, but...

when Connie was just a little baby, our village was attacked by a monster and...

[both grunt]

So I decided to take upon myself the task of guardian.

I promised that I'd see my daughter again.

Just as soon as this job was over and done with.

And that's why I have to do this too.

[gasps]

Tell me, Father, what's your most favorite thing in the world?

Every single moment that I get to spend with you makes me the happiest man alive.

[determined grunt]

[Anne] We can trust him.

Everything he's told us is true.

-[gasps] -[Anne] Mm.

For some reason, I can't go past this barrier.

Maybe they've grown suspicious of me.

Donny's hopeless, but Percival is the problem.

Despite what he went through in Cant, he still throws caution to the wind,

it's like he hasn't learned anything at all.

Still though, I think that's also part

of what makes Percival who he is at this core.

If his goal truly is to become a Holy Knight,

he absolutely must be capable

of making composed and precise decisions no matter the situation.

Are you badmouthing your friend at a time like this?

I'm simply pointing out

that this incident will demonstrate my worthiness as a leader.

[Donny screaming]

There! We made it to the idol!

If Mr. Ardd's assumptions are correct, the moment the idol shatters,

the villagers will revert to their original forms, causing chaos.

[effort grunts]

[Anne] Come on, Sylvan. Let's do this thing!

If we pull this off, I'll reward you with a tasty carrot later!

[Sylvan grunts]

But jeez, that got me! I mean, that drink was delicious,

but it definitely didn't agree with my body.

I was teaching them how to do sumo wrestling!

Look. Check this guy out. Dolchomonte here is super-duper strong!

Uh, D-Dolcho what now?

I'm surprised you managed to even figure out his name.

It just sort of came to me as we were playing together.

The pronunciation is quite odd.

As far as I can tell, it's clearly different

from Britannia's language.

How are you suddenly speaking their language?

[Percival] Huh? Why can I?

[both grunting]

[grunts, sighs]

[Anne] If I can't accomplish this simple mission,

there's no way I can become a Holy Knight.

[both grunting]

[rumbles]

[exclaims] Hey, it's moving! One more!

[strained grunts]

We're almost there!

[village chief speaking monster language]

[speaking monster language]

-[dings] -Hmm?

[zapping]

[village chief in English] What's this? The device is acting abnormally!

I shall destroy the wicked and lend aid to the weak!

And above all else,

I will defend that which I hold most dear to me with my very life!

[rumbles]

[Anne] I did it!

[whimpers]

[both screaming]

[villagers grunting]

-[zapping] -[all gasp]

-What the heck? -[all grunt]

What just happened?

That came out of nowhere, huh? Dolchomonte...

-[suspenseful music] -[all gasping]

What marvelous young children I've happened upon.

They finally managed to shatter the hellish barrier!

[Ardd] The demon race shall be punished with blood!

Now is the moment for we humans to reclaim Britannia!

Wait. This whole time, they were such horrifying monsters?

Oh, give me a break! Those things are way too large for us!

Sin, Percival, Donny!

I hope you're all safe! Whatever you guys are doing out there!

-[Percival] Anne! -[gasps]

Percival? Thank good...

[Anne and Sylvan gasp in shock]

[whimpers]

[screams]

[splutters] Drop them! Put them down right now, you beast!

[Anne] If you eat them, I swear I'll never forgive you!

It's all okay, Anne. Don't worry!

This big fella is Dolchomonte, our newest buddy!

-Excuse me? -[Sylvan whimpers]

[monsters chattering]

[exhausted groan]

[Nasiens] It's understandable they're surprised.

It's my first time encountering this specific race as well.

and undoing the illusion spell that made them appear human.

[Anne gasps] V-Village chief!

[speaking monster language]

[in English] He's calling him the Elder.

Wait a minute, so the village chief is the only human?

[Nasiens] I apologize. It seems there was a bit of confusion.

But believe me, we're not your enemies, I assure you.

I wasn't talking about you, my son.

[gasps]

[Ardd] The time has come!

I finally got you all!

-[Percival] Huh? -[Donny] Who's that?

-[tense music] -That voice sounds like Mr. Ardd?

His outfit's changed!

[Ardd] I am Ardbeg, a Holy Knight in the service of King Arthur!

[all gasp]

I have waited for this day, this moment, for so long!

This is the end of the demon race! I shall punish you all!
