this trip to just

be about snowmobiles,
snow sledding,

and getting drunk
the whole time.

Spice and I got so much
from our Mayan experience

that we wanted to do
something similar here.

- So I set up a meeting with
the local indigenous Canadians,

the Stoney Nakoda, so we can
get a little enlightenment

on other people's struggles
and understand

that the things we argue about
are very trivial.

I'm from California actually.

- What part of California?

I'm Karlie. I'm Karlie.

- I wanted to get
a little deeper here in Canada

and see how the people who are
actually from this land live.

They're another culture
who suffered

similar oppressions
to our ancestors.

- My name is Henry Holloway,

but my real name is...
[speaking native language]

Which means White Heaven.

I've lived here all my life.

And this place where
we're sitting now

is very sacred ground
for the Stoney Nakoda people.

The colonization started here

since the contact
of white people.

- Right.
- We signed a treaty

with them for an agreement
to live together

and share the land together.

But they put us on reserves,
stating that this is your home.

But to me, it's actually, they
put us in a penitential area.

We lost our culture,
our traditions,

our way of life.
- Mm-hmm.

- And we lost our language
because we were not allowed

to speak our language
in the residential school.

- Hearing you speak,
there's so many similarities

between your story and
the stories of Black Americans

that originate from Africa.

They stripped us
of our language,

stripped us of our religion,

stripped us of every--
our names.

- Yes.
- And we're still trying

to figure out who we are
and our culture.

So I really appreciate you.

- Thank you.

- There are
so many similarities

between the oppression
of Black enslaved people

and the Nakoda tribe
and their oppression.

I just feel this is
such an important moment.

And I'm glad to experience this
with, you know,

another group
of Indigenous people.

- It's an honor to be showing
our way of life for you guys.

- Watching them dance,
I'm just like, wow.

I feel like, spiritually,
I was supposed to be here.

- The way that they are
communicating with God

just through praising,

I'm just grateful
for these trips

and being able to see
another side.

This is about growth.
This is about closeness.

And I feel emotionally
connected to these people,

who I don't even know.

It was a good feeling, but
it was also a weird feeling.

was so touching.

They really take pride
in who they are

and what they come from.

And that's what I'm
gonna take back with me.

Like, it's time for us
to start taking more pride

in who we are
and where we come from.

It's mostly when we talk
to white people,

but you're different.

I can feel you're stronger.

That's why we all
survived together.

to know what these people
have went through

and still going through

it was like

maybe some curses that she
felt like she's dealing with.

He knows my heart.

He's connected to my soul.
