All language subtitles for 06 - Auto-Text

- [Instructor] Chapter two 06.

We're going to look at auto text.

That's the thing we skipped over in the previous lesson.

I've also opened up pages

and I've also opened up layers,

so we can have a look at what goes on

with some of this text.

Now this is a default template,

one that I've picked from the available options

in LayOut when we fire it up,

and I'm highlighted here on every inside page

so when we create layers in LayOut,

we've got the options of either having it just on one page

or this symbol here means that any content

that's on that type of layer

will be copied across all pages.

Okay, you can switch them back

and then you've got the option to leave the content

on all the layers or to just keep it onto the existing layer

so fantastic little feature.

And if I click on some of this text,

you can see that it's got this ready,

this brownie ready sort of border to it

and that corresponds, then,

with this dot on the layer, okay?

So anything on that dot colored layer

is going to be on every page.

Now we don't have to call it on every inside page.

It's this thing here, that overlapping page.

That's the thing that makes it go onto every page.

So we can see that this icon,

we've got the text there,

we've got that text there and this text here.

This text, however, is on a layer called unique elements,

which means that because it's the name

of the specific drawing,

you wouldn't want that copied across everything.

This, however, is on every inside page.

And this is a tag

because if I double clicked on it,

I'm just going to zoom in on this,

I get this thing sometimes.

This pops up every now and then,

font substitution required.

I always say don't substitute the fonts.

I know I've got the font in there.

And what we've basically got is a letter A

and then in these less than

and greater than brackets, page number.

This is the tag that represents the auto text, okay?

So I click away from that and it goes back to AO one.

Similarly,

if I go up to the client one here,

then we see client, which is a piece of text,

and then we've got these tags in these brackets again.

Client name, client address.

Okay, so where do they belong

and how do we create them?

Well, we're going to use this thing here.

Please do not scale from this drawing.

I have added this on.

I'll add it onto every inside page layer

because it's important that this sort of message

is on every page.

And there's lots of disputes about what you actually write

in these sorts of things,

but because we're not going to be

using this specifically for anything too controversial,

then please do not scale from this drawing,

all dimensions are in millimeters

and should be checked on site.

Please report any discrepancies to the architect immediately

so you can change that value to inches

or whatever you like,

but it's this piece of text

which is going to get us out of any hot water

should anything nasty happen to the project.

Obviously, if you have specific requirements,

then I would suggest that you contact

whichever department you deal

with to get the correct wording

but this is just to point out

this is just for illustration purposes only.

Okay, so what we're going to do is go to the text menu

and that's the same for Mac and Windows

and customize auto text.

It's slightly higher up on the dropdown on the Mac

so click on this

and then we get this auto text in,

which is part of the document setup.

So we can see client address, so again,

this represents these tags,

as we noticed when we double clicked on them,

and we've got other options here, issue date,

so this is a custom text thing.

We've got a page number.

New document pages in the window, pages dialog.

We've got page number,

then this is a style

whether it's zero, one, zero, two, zero, three,

or A-B-C or these different types of characters,

and start at inside page or cover page, we get that option.

So they're all quite clever, these things.

Most of them are going to be like this one,

just custom text.

So we're going to make our own,

and we're going to be using this content,

so we'll just click on the plus side first.

We're going to use a custom text one,

so click on custom text

and then inside of these brackets,

we're going to type in something like

capital D-O, capital N-O-T,

capital S-C-A-L-E, okay?

Do not scale.

And then click away from that so we've got this thing here.

Okay, so there's no text in this do not scale yet,

and we're going to just copy and paste this text into this.

Now the good thing about LayOut is that these dialog box

will stay open while we work around them

so if we double click inside of this,

that highlights the text,

and then right click to copy,

and click inside this box and right click again and paste.

There you go,

so please do not scale from this drawing.

It's important to remember how we've typed this

and it has to be inside these brackets.

So then we can close that,

then I can click away from that.

So I'm going to delete this now

and instead of having all of that text sort of to type in,

then make sure I'm on the every inside page layer.

Then with my text tool,

I can just click over here somewhere,

start the open less than bracket,

capital D-O, capital N-O-T, capital S-C-A-L-E.

Close brackets and then click away,

and then you get that auto text up here.

And then you can position this any way you like.

Up here or somewhere else,

and that's now going to appear on every page,

so if I went to the pages

and just clicked on add a new page,

then we'll see that we're now on page three.

The number has changed because it's on a different page.

It's on this number here,

and all the other bits and pieces

are on the every inside page

with the exception of that unique element has disappeared.

So quite a nice little way of jumping

between one thing and another.

So that's auto text covered,

so I think we've done enough with the introduction to this.

We'll get on and start creating some shapes,

so we can use these things in the next chapter,

and then we'll be able to put these to use

by creating our own template.
