All language subtitles for 04 - LayOut preferences

- [Instructor] Chapter 02_04, we're

looking at the preferences that you can set in Layout.

So whether you're using Windows or Mac,

the options are the same, it's just getting

there is slightly different.

On a Windows, we go Edit and then

down to Preferences.

And on the Mac you go to the Layout menu

and then find Preferences, and then you'll

see something set up very similar to this.

So the top one we've got is the Default Applications.

So if we wanted to use Photoshop or

other image editor available, then you

can browser for that using the Choose button.

Similarly, you've go the same option

with the text editor, and also you can

use a table editor sort of like Excel

for example, because you can use tables

inside this software.

Backup is the next one.

So, advisable to create backups.

Every five minutes if you want.

You can change that value by clicking

and just entering a new value.

So let's say 10 minutes for that.

Folders; this is something that

we need to be aware of.

Now, Layout isn't a very complicated

piece of software to use, but knowing

where it keeps things and knowing

where it saves things is very important.

So be default, these are the two

paths that it places its templates.

Program Data on your main drive

and then under your user you have

the App Data and it's in the Roaming profile.

Then you'll find SketchUp 20, whatever

version you're using and then Layout and Templates.

Similarly for scrapbooks you've got the

Program Data folder on the C Drive,

and then your main user that you're using

in the app data.

Similar path for the scrapbooks.

And on the pattern fill images

that's saved in Program Data.

So if you want to set a different path,

maybe for the pattern fill images

because that's only got one,

then I click on the plus sign and then

I'll browse, maybe to the desktop,

and say Okay, and that will put a path in there.

To get rid of that path I'll just

hit the negative button and that gets rid of it.

Then we've got the General option.

So Automatically re-render SketchUp models as needed.

That's fine.

And then we've got some tool colors.

Okay, so that's very simple.

If you find these colors difficult to read

then you can change those.

Under Presentation we've got what

monitor to use when we are presenting this stuff.

I never use this.

I'll be perfectly honest with you.

Another important one, Scales.

So if you want to create or delete scales

you've got the Imperial scales at the top

and then the Metric scales at the bottom.

So again, feel free to change the scales.

So Scale Text; if I wanted to create

a scale of one, two, we've got a 1000.

That's maybe 1250 for a sight plan.

So I would type in there 1 to 1250.

And then one Paper unit.

I'll make sure that's in millimeters.

Is equal to 1250.

And again, that's going to be in millimeters.

So then we'll get in brackets, 1 to 1250.

And then I can Add Custom Scale.

So that then adds the custom scale.

And it'll organize it in order.

Okay, so that's how we create scales.

Feel free to add as many sales as you

feel you would need.

There's enough there to start off with.

Shortcuts, we've seen shortcuts already

but this is a different route to it.

And again, we can now see our Bring to the Front,

Control Shift F and Send to Back, Control Shift B.

They've been added to that shortcut list.

And then we have Startup.

So there's a startup window that we get

when we create a new document.

And that's because this radio button is clicked.

We can either reopen files from the last session

or don't open anything.

And with a new document, do you want

to see the getting started box

or create a blank new document,

or do you want to use a default template?

Okay?

So we'll be looking at templates later on,

but that's basically a quick run through

on the layout preferences.

Most of the ones that are set by default

people tend to stay with.

If you do want to edit images directly

through this software then add an image editor.

Similarly with the text and the tables.

So next, we'll be looking at the documents setup.

And again, there's a lot of useful information

in that, that we need to be aware of.
