All language subtitles for 02 - Customizing the LayOut toolbars on Windows

- [Instructor] Chapter 02_02, we'll be looking at how

we can customize some items and tools inside of LayOut.

This is using Windows, I'll do the Mac next.

Several ways to get access to the toolbars,

you've got the View menu, so here it is.

The toolbars then we've

got the main toolbar and customize.

I've also got this drop-down here

which allows me to access the main toolbar

and decide which icons I want or don't want.

Alternatively I can right-click on the blank bit of toolbar

and I've got lock toolbars which is currently locked,

I can unlock them so they may float.

So if I grab that I can float it on the screen.

Or I've got customize option, okay?

So I'm going to click on customize,

I'll drag that back for now into the right position.

And what we're going to do here is we'll look at each

of these tabs in a second,

but I'm going to create a new toolbar, okay?

I'm not going to call it UltraToolbar one

which is the default name, I'm going to call it Order.

So ORDER, order and we're going to dock it at the top,

we got options for other places

and I'm going to say okay to that.

So on my Order toolbar, I'm going to go to commands

and I'm just going to use the Arrange commands

because there's a lot of ones that you don't really need

that much but ordering things up and down the stack

is quite a useful thing.

Now you can see over here, this little gray bar

that's the Order toolbar, okay?

We haven't got anything on it yet so it look pretty empty.

So I'm going to drag this up on to the front.

So you've got to see that little sort

of I, symbol the cursor input and that's the thing

that allow you to drop it in

and it stretches toolbar down a bit.

I've got bring to front,

I'm going to move over the next one Bring Forward,

then I'm going to take Send to Back

and then I'm going to go Send Backwards, okay?

So you've got to make sure that little cursor appears

otherwise it won't drop into place.

I'm also going to take the Align

and Space options in.

Now these are sort of drop-down versions

with an option for each one.

So you can click on that drop-down

and then I'll take space in there as well

and make sure that's dropped into place, okay?

So I've got these space vertically or horizontally,

I've got the align left, right, top, bottom,

vertically and horizontally.

So lots of control there over the positioning of things.

Okay, so the other tab we have is this one Options.

And we've got to surf in information here

in your personal data.

Show full menus after short delay, Always show full menus.

The ones that we really are concerned about

aren't down here, whether we have large

or small icons that's really one

of the most important things.

If you're short for space or you've got good eyesight

then small icons on the toolbars

are probably your preference.

I'll keep them to the larger size for clarity

when we doing these videos.

This one here is quite useful List Font Names In Their Font

as well as opposed to just

having one generic font for everything.

So it's much easier to see

what it's looking like in the font.

Show screenTips on Toolbars that one useful

for when you're learning the software

and also Show Shortcut keys on ScreenTips as well.

So keep those all as they are,

will not have any animations for this.

And before we leave we're going to go onto the keyboard

and we're going to set a couple of keyboard shortcuts, okay?

We're going to keep to the Arrange

and for the Bring to Front option which is this one here,

we are going to use control+shift and F, okay?

Now we can't just type them in, we have to use the mouse

and drag this sort of down,

so we get to the control+shift and numbers

and then the letters.

So control+shift+F, we assign that one,

make sure that's set.

And then we're going to come down to the bottom

and send to back and we're going to

use control+shift and B for that, okay?

So that one here and then click on that, Assign that

and then you can close this down, close that down.

And now we've got a new toolbar Order

in which you can drag over there.

I can then right click on a blank bit of toolbar

and lock the toolbars, that moves them all up a bit

get sort of the bar at the end

and that went in between there.

And we've got the keyboard shortcuts,

when we hover over some of our tools.

So control+shift and F for that one

and control+shift and B for this one.

So that's how we do some simple customizations

to the tool bars there's not much to do with this.

This is quite useful, if you don't want this showing

then you can just right-click on a bit of toolbar Space

and just uncheck it, okay?

So then it disappears.

So next up I'm going to be looking at the Mac interface

and then we'll be looking at something very important

and something we definitely need to know about

and that's the layout preferences.
