Whatever you've got in my back it isn't a gun.

You can put it away now.

You knew all the time...

The barrel of a gun has a different feel.

Why didn't you...

'I wanted him to run like that.'

'To be in such a hurry to get back to the place'

'and leave a big trail.'

Thank you, doctor.

"Colt .45"

Produced by Warner Bros.

From the entertainment capital of the world

produced for television by Warner Bros.

Drummer man ?

Guns.

The new Colt .45.

What's the matter ?

I've had a pain on my side the last couple of days.

Bothers you that much ?

Is there a doctor in this town ?

No, but there will be.

In about 15 minutes from now.

- What's his name ? - 'Doc Lee Taylor.'

Coming all the way from Chicago.

Do you know him ?

No, but we ain't asking any questions.

He picked this town to settle down in, we're all glad.

'Must be some rich old coot who needs this climate'

'for his health.'

What makes you think he's so rich ?

Arranged by male to have that set up in advance.

'He's been sending in special equipment'

'from all over the east.'

'Cuts, medical supplies, newfangled instruments.'

I'll bet he'll fix that pain of yours in short order.

What kind of guns you say you're selling ?

New Colt .45.

Is there a hotel in town ?

Right over there.

Much obliged.

You're gonna make a speech to the doctor, sheriff ?

Tell him he's welcome ?

He'll figure that when he sees this reception committee.

- 'Oh.' - 'He is handsome..'

Dr. Taylor..

I am Dr. Taylor.

Ma'am the doc's first name is Lee.

Yes Lea. L-E-A.

Spelling come through that way. Only I thought..

There couldn't possibly be anything such as a woman doctor ?

- Yes, ma'am. - Is this the doctor ?

'Doctor, can you do anything for my dandruff ?

Break it up. Come on.

I made arrangements for a clinic.

I'll be glad to show you where it is, ma'am.

Thank you.

It'll take people time to get used to a woman doctor.

- So I found out. - Even in Chicago ?

If things had been different there, I wouldn't be here.

How did you know I was from Chicago ?

Well, the sheriff told me.

I just got into town, needed a doctor.

What seems to be the trouble ?

Well, I've got a pain in my side.

What you doctors call the appendix.

Oh ?

At least you've got one patient.

Well, come in.

"Lee Taylor."

They were so positive it had to be a man.

Well, it's just that they are used to it that way.

Everything here ?

More than I expected.

You mean you didn't ordered ?

Why of course I did.

It's just that you never know what it's like

until you see it.

What made you pick this town to come to ?

One town in the west is just as good another, isn't it ?

I suppose.

You know, for a man whose appendix is bothering him

you're asking an awful lot of questions.

Really, doctor, I've got a pain here

that's been bothering me for..

What did you do that for ?

I just hit you in the appendix.

Now, do you have any other complaints ?

Such as a toothache or dandruff ?

"You don't believe I'm a doctor, do you ?'

You wanted to test me.

To prove me the fake the rest of the town thinks I am.

' Am a doctor and I am a good doctor.'

I am not just insipid young girl to be jeered at or laughed at.

Now, you go back and tell that to your funny friends, mister.

Go on, get out of here. Get out.

Did she cure you ?

She sure did.

Lea,

Shelby.

You look great.

So wonderful to see you.

I'm proud of you. So proud I could bust.

I could never have made it through medical school

if it hadn't been for the money you sent.

Had it lucky on a gold strike.

Why weren't you there to meet me today ?

Well, I tried to make it in but the old man I work for

he, he had things for me to do.

- Is his gout any better ? - Worse.

It's worse every day.

Why do you think he went to all the expense to send for you

and set you up like this ?

Because I told him you're a very fine doctor.

Well, why didn't you bring him in with you ?

He said he was too sick to make it.

And that gout's just about killing him.

You'll have to go out to him.

You get whatever you'll need and I'll take it.

- We'll talk along the way. - Alright.

"Shel ? - "

Why didn't he allow his name to be mentioned ?

Wrote he was eccentric, didn't 1 ?

He doesn't want people to know he's rich enough to set up

a doctor.

'He's afraid of claim jumpers and robbers.'

'So, he doesn't want the word to get out'

'that he's made a rich strike.'

Ho ! Ho, boy ! Ho !

You'll need a map to find this place.

Yeah.

Where's the mine ?

It's just over the ridge there.

This is a friend of mine. Al.

Al, meet Dr. Taylor.

Here's the doc for you, Mr. Russel.

She better be as good as you say she is.

I want to thank you, Mr. Russel, for..

Why do you know this is the first time

I've ever known your name.

If you want to thank me

start doing it by fixing these legs.

Of course. I know how much pain you're in.

Shelby, get me some water.

A person suffering from the gout is in almost constant pain...

Stop talking and do something.

Of course there's no real cure.

What do you mean no real cure ?

The pain can be alleviated however

'and with treatment it can... '

He said you could fix these legs just like new.

She can. Almost like new.

I can't ride a horse. I can't walk more than ten feet

at a time.

Spend my money to get cured...

There now. Sit back and relax.

Shelby, the water.

Good evening, doctor.

What are you doing here ?

Waiting.

For the last five hours.

Get out.

I have a legitimate complaint this time.

Where did you get that ?

From someone who didn't want me to follow you

when you left in the buggy.

Why would you want to follow me ?

Are you going to take care of it ?

Sit down.

First I followed the money.

What money ?

The money that paid for this clinic and all the equipment.

It was marked money from a bank robbery.

Who are you ?

My name's Colt. I work for the government.

Government ?

Who was your patient today, doctor ?

I can't tell you.

Did he look like this ?

No, he didn't.

My patient is a perfectly respectable man.

Who has a gold mine here.

There are no gold mines around here. Might be a hideout though.

The one Shannon took paid for this.

Did it buy you too ?

- Well, did it ? - No.

Then why are you protecting him ?

Don't you realize that accepting this could make you

an accomplice to the crime ?

I don't know anything about it.

Not anything.

Shannon is one of the most vicious outlaws

in this part of the country.

He's been out of action lately.

'Must have needed a doctor pretty bad'

to go to all this trouble.'

I didn't know the name of the man who sent for me.

Doctor, my assignment is to get Shannon.

If you cooperate, you'll be in the clear.

No, I can't.

You know, for a minute you almost convinced me

you were innocent.

I am innocent.

Then why won't you cooperate ?

I owe a debt to someone.

- Shannon ? - 'No.'

And I don't want to answer anymore questions.

If you don't answer questions, you know what will happen ?

- It doesn't matter. - I think it does.

You'll find yourself in the local jail discredited.

Possibly even disbarred from your profession.

Now, think that one over.

- You lied to me. - Lied about what ?

How long have you been an outlaw ?

How long have you been working for Mr. Tom Shannon ?

Who told you about him ?

How could you involve me in this ?

You weren't doing any good back east, were you ?

'I got a patron that paid for everything.'

'That gout of his will last for years. In the meantime'

'people will get used to you.'

Start coming here. It's your big opportunity.

I don't want any part of it.

Now, look, he's waiting out there and you're going to him.

- No, Shelby, I'm not. - You're a doctor.

You can't refuse a sick man.

He can come here.

You know he can't do that.

How'd you find out about him anyway ?

"Who's been talking to you ?"

The government is looking for Mr. Shannon.

- Is the government man in town ? - 'Right behind you.'

Take off your gun belt.

You've got another patient outside.

He's got the same thing wrong with the back of his skull

that I had yesterday.

Drop your gun, Mr. Colt.

I mean it !

Now, go on, get out of here.

No ! Haven't you done enough ? Do you want to make it worse ?

'Do you want 10 make me a part of the murder ?

Just get out of here and keep going.

Keep going forever.

You seem pretty fond of him.

I was.

He's part of the Shannon gang, isn't he ?

He's the reason you wouldn't take me to the hideout.

Were you afraid he'd get hurt, maybe killed ?

Yes.

Who is he, doctor ?

My brother.

Whatever you've got in my back, it isn't a gun.

You can put it away now.

You knew all the time...

The barrel of a gun has a different feel.

- Why didn't you... - I wanted him to run like that.

To be in such a hurry to get back to the place

and leave a big trail.

Right to Shannon's doorstep.

Thank you, doctor.

- Where is she ? - She's not coming.

What do you mean she ain't coming ?

There's a government man in town.

He bushwhacked John

now he is with Lea.

Telling him where we are. That's what she's doing.

The main thing is we've got to get out of here.

Hightail it for the border.

Is this what I paid all that money for ?

One single treatment for the gout

and now I've got to run for my life.

It wasn't her fault. Things went wrong.

Things went wrong 'cause I listened to you.

I'm a sick man, I need a doctor.

'We have to leave here, we're gonna take her.'

You can't.

I've bought her and I'm taking her.

I could be dead before we get to the border.

Go on and get her.

What about that government man ?

He'll probably get up a posse and head out this way.

Make sure you keep out of his way.

Ride in town and get her.

I'll be in the buggy and meet you at the Grand Forks.

Wait a minute. I'm not gonna let you do this.

She's a doctor and a good doctor.

Treating you out here was one thing

but traveling with outlaws, roughing it day after day..

She's my sister not some cheap tramp.

She won't come with you.

You can't force her.

Maybe he's right. What if she resist ?

She won't.

Not when you tell her brother's bleeding to death.

Looks like he came through here pretty fast.

Who are they ?

Like they could be a couple of Shannon's men.

Headed back to town ?

Do you think they'd be going the other way ?

Wonder what the have in mind.

I'd better find out.

- Want us to come with you ? - No, you go to the hideout.

I thought your main interest was Shannon.

He'll keep.

- I don't believe you. - You better believe us.

Lea, he's been shot. He's bleeding something fierce.

Shelby's lied to me before, he'll do it again.

You ought to come with us right now.

He's apt to die.

Why didn't you bring him here ?

Watch the door.

I'm telling you you're coming with us.

It's just another Shelby's tricks.

You're coming with me if I have to knock you out and throw you

across my saddle.

- I'm not going. - Oh..

'Hold it.'

Let her go.

- What's going on here ? - Who are you ?

I'm working for the sheriff. He's out of town.

You boys can lock him up.

Bury that other one.

They told me my brother was wounded.

Don't you want to find out whether it's true ?

- It's just another lie. - What if it isn't ?

You want me to take you out there ?

Are you ready to go now ?

Yes.

He give you trouble ?

No. He was dead when we got here.

The other one was lying here just like you see him.

Except he had a gun in his hand.

- How is he ? - Pretty bad.

I've got to get him into town right away.

Looks like she knows what she's doing.

Ma'am, she does know what she's doing.

I wonder if she has a remedy for chickenpox.

They knew he was almost dead when we brought him in here.

If he lives through it, they're gonna have a lot of respect

for you.

There's something I want you to know.

I killed Shannon.

That's the way it looked.

I grabbed the gun..

...and killed him.

I had to for her.

' Want her to have the reward money.'

He doesn't know what he's saying.

Yes, he does.

He's entitled to the reward money.

I wouldn't take it.

Why not ? It's clean.

You can pay for this clinic and everything in it.

It'll be yours free and clear.

Your brother wants it that way, he would make up for things.

Will he live ?

Yes.

He'll have to go to jail for a little while

after that I think he'll have a lot to live for.

A sister that looks like she's going to be

one of the best doctors in the west.

One of the best woman doctors.
