Original subtitles

TV the most powerful medium ever created and

watched by billions in every corner of the earth

but it would not exist without a visionary genius who nearly one hundred years ago

saw the future.

Bilo t Farnsworth.

The inventor

of television.

Okay

ready.

I'm turning on

the power.

That to have overheated again

i'm beginning to think mr Farnsworth idea for television will never work

perhaps we should just give up.

We cannot give up.

Then i get discouraged

what we create here one day

bring the world shows that inform and educate.

Shows that make us laugh and cry.

As

it shows about people who where they go to work

they switched to different people in their brains

remember what happens at work.

I don't understand that sir.

Many people who watch it won't either.

By god it will be on TV.

Dream that one day

there will be a channel for every interest the

travel channel for travel the food network for food

and the history channel

for history no aliens.

Won't be history on the history channel sir.

Just as there will be no learning or the learning channel.

Will be on the learning channel.

Orders.

Couch cushions dr pimple popper all our fun stuff.

Who will make all this are

actors

writers directors

and most importantly producers

and what

does the producer do sir.

Nobody know.

Okay so

TV will have something for everyone yes

for people of every culture.

Networks like telemundo for Spanish speakers

and b t black entertainment television.

Will there'll be a network for white people sir

while CBS of course.

Caucasian broadcast system.

Yeah i guess so

and will there be a network for Asian people

for what's that you asked about streaming.

One day a dream there'll be so many shows

were

invented another type of TV called streaming what is streaming sir.

A new way for companies to lose money.

Streamers will make their own shows and create their own stars

who will the stars be.

Murders.

In real life murderers mostly.

Watch shows about murderers for entertainment.

Your wife my wife everyone's like.

That is why we will pay

the streaming subscription fees.

Same with streaming the viewer pays the fee

so there are no ads

if it only works so simple

you pay the fee and there are ads.

That seems unfair to the customer

or get out.

If

we don't say that out loud get out.

I go sit in the back where the people are probably going to lose anyway.

This is what.

Naming

that is what the awards celebrating excellence in television

will be called the winning one will be very prestigious.

Like an Oscar.

Alright.

It's a good one.

And there will be awards for all types of shows gripping dramas like the bit.

Heartbreaking.

Heartbreaking look at the

emotional toll of trauma.

Out loud comedies like the bear.

Heartbreaking look at the emotional toll of trauma.

That sounds like a drama

and yet it is not.

Shows that win an Emmy have achieved the highest level

artistry

and will have the most viewers.

Not even close.

Most people watch football in yellowstone.

But none of that matters

if we give up now.

By bidding TV we create a world

where a woman will post road popular

late night

talk show.

A woman sir.

Not in real life.

Fictional show called hacks.

Greater world where an actor named Stanley tucci

will not get will get not one but two shows

where he goes to Italy and needs food.

It shows.

Two so far.

Grid a world where the finest artists craft stories of staggering beauty

that millions of people will watch.

On their phones while they're sitting on the toilet.

TV and this.

The emmys.

You that while i have your attention is anyone hiring.

Cricketers i got to one hundred very

well qualified candidates with me here tonight.

Though i also brought my own resume here tonight i just.

I haven't a chance to update my headshot in a bit but.

I think it still works i think it's.

I'm in there somewhere

after i

after i get back from Istanbul i'm sure.

I only have the one and.

Harrison Ford could you get this Spielberg would you.

Then the nominees for lead actor in a comedy series are.

Adam Brody

nobody wants.

Shrinking.

Martin short

only murderers.

Jeremy Allen white.

Now the Emmy for lead actor

in a comedy series goes to.

Seth Rogen the studio.

This is the first

Emmy win and

nomination for that.

Nominated for directing.

Wow

this is amazing

i still could not wrap my head around was happening that

i literally prepared nothing I've never won anything

in my life

when i was a kid i bought a used bowling trophy at an estate sale.

And my parents were like yeah that's a good idea you should probably buy that.

Figured my wife.

My mother my everyone

on the show my agents my managers the writers

everyone who

guest starred on the show thank you so much.

This is

really just so lovely

and

i feel like i should get it i dunno i dunno what to say this is so nice

thank you

i appreciate you all have a good one.

Three

thank you.

Look at us

are doing it

alright.

Welcome to the seventy seventh Emmy awards you know it's not a it's not a big one

like seventy five or eighty but it's the one that gave me.

It's an honor to be here tonight

i mean i'm so excited

to be here just all you guys have worked so hard to get here

i mean it is confusing too because it is like

reba mcentire i feel like i'm at the grammys.

Cate blanchett talking about the oscars

crazy.

Tina fey i thought like they should have had her host you know why.

A lot of people are wondering like why am i hosted i.

I dunno what that was

but i alright

it counts as a laugh

at.

Business i have not had for for my career i'm a stand up comedian

not had a ton of success in Hollywood

but let me tell you

boy is it going good everywhere else.

He might know if you haven't heard so we got an idea as a host they ask me when you

give your thank you speeches they just said you've got to

keep them on time so they wanted me to come up with a way

to do that

so when i came up with

is this way

is everybody gets forty five seconds it honestly gives

you a speech i know how hard you as have all worked

to get here i'm not trying to take anything away

forty five seconds that's what you got

and if you want to do more than that dude on social media

later what's more people are going to see it there anyway so.

To start the show.

I am going to donate one hundred thousand

dollars to the boys and girls club of america.

Though alright

remember that

remember how fun that was because this part

is hard to say.

If you stay forty five seconds it stays at one hundred thousand dollars.

Thats.

Alright.

Though if.

Every second you go under

are over i'm sorry every second you go or forty five seconds

we will

duct one thousand dollars away from the boys and girls club

i know.

I know how

tough it is hard

that's tough

it's brutal

where you go do though you know i can't.

Can't change it this is a game i made up and these are the rules

so here is to make look if you go if you go

if you go under

we will put one thousand dollars a second

back on

for the boys and girls club of america.

Then relax

let's have fun alright.

By the way we won't see we've already got started Seth congrats

he you know feel bad he didn't even know about this at all

but what it said do as he

over under.

Stayed the forty

under.

Now.

Then don't go crazy though cause like i am

paying for this or don't

like.

Some of you go over a little some go under do the right thing.

And

now you know the rules

those are it

so

not everybody knows let's keep this show going

please welcome two time Emmy winner Jennifer coolidge.

That made it

halfway wow.

You know

i am so honored to be here

presenting the Emmy for

lead actress in a comedy series

and

i just want to say ten nominees.

That

you are all incredible talents

he really are and.

Really truly

natural

that.

Between us you know i i was actually hoping to be nominated

alongside you tonight for my.

Work on this season of the pet.

I

played a horny grandmother having a colonoscopy during a power outage.

And i

had to play a lot of levels.

I even had to do my own trap

and.

Girls i guess want to say

being nominated is such a huge deal and.

I mean.

I talked to the guys at the academy tonight and i asked them.

How many actresses are eligible in this category and not

and they thought it was around like

twenty five thousand

and.

I thought about it and that just doesn't seem right and.

I think it's gotta be around twenty five million

and

and

then you know i guess.

It's just

narrowed

down to you five.

And girls i won last year.

Annum.

Or maybe it was like two years ago and.

Anyway.

I can just i just want to say this and.

I can tell you from experiencing

a winning this is

it's not all it's cracked up to be it's really not you know

i

i

thought i had gotten really close with my fellow nominees you know

especially after i won you know but.

I'm pretty sure they remove me from the group chat

and

we are all supposed to go on a trip to a visa

and.

I

i found out

that i wasn't included

and the only reason i knew that was because.

Elisabeth de Becky and i

have the same olympic dealer.

At least kurz is working

but.

Now that i think about it.

Winning the Emmy i think you know what i think it might

have been the worst thing that ever happened to me.

every scene with a perfect blend and balance to the action

the dialogue and the narrative

and in doing just that.

Money

baron holds

envoy time Emmy nominee.

That we're here to present an award for writing.

Sunday writing is the most important part of a TV show but actually we think

it is the least important.

Just because we don't have some little trophy

doesn't mean we're not great actors okay

we we are trained actors

we can improvise and we don't need some

Harvard nerd

eating pringles

to tell us what to say or write

to prove this you know what

let's go ahead and turn off the teleprompter yeah

yeah we're going to go with our gut on this one our instincts.

Turn off charge on kill it take a type five.

Yes

yes

so so.

TV shows are

why we're here tonight.

Some get awards

to have and keep.

Shows.

Shows.

It's what we celebrate

on the emmys

awards

at.

I love

cheer cheers yes

and Seinfeld.

Love they're not here tonight though

they are correct

people are smiling at us some people are not

everybody is so.

Glamorous know why

wiley are so good

scrub.

That sucks we're going to go ahead and

turn the project back up

your point

maybe writers are important we're really sorry about what

we said earlier i really apologize for what we're learning

and the nominees for writing for a limited or anthology series or movie are.

turn the wrong way.

I think we have.

Really.

You are you are

young pieces that we weren't in a room by the way this

is happening all the time.

You are the young people you are the flame

the proof that young people are going to be okay

and we are forever grateful for you thank you

thank you very much i will have even.

Air ago.

That stuff that was a show called adolescents that did that to adolescence

but it's.

I know

i

look.

A guy congrats

i would like to say because i

owe and

I'll pick-up Owens tab so I'll

put Owens back whatever he had

i want to cover oh and.

He's the best thousand so whatever it is that when it's at

night

what is wrong.

Alright.

Twenty five years ago our next presenters starred in

the Warner brothers television show gilmore's now.

Contractually i have to say Warner brothers

for now.

Please welcome Lauren Graham and Emmy winner Alexis blood out.

Twenty five years ago a show called gilmore girls premiered

and apparently took the season of fall hostage.

In spite of our attempting to

dominate

gilmore was actually a very small show meaning we had no money

nothing

if there was a birthday at the drew Carey show next

door they would send us their leftover sheet cake

looks hungry.

We walked in circles in Burbank saying

hey look how Connecticut it is here today.

We saved up all year long to have one snow episode and

then iar would walk down their street and wash it all away

I've got to let that go

they had Clooney it could have let us have the damn snow.

Basically we were bullied and starving but the one thing we did have

we had scripts

great

aig scripts terrifyingly lengthy scripts without

scripts we would not have wonderful words to say

we wouldn't know if it's day or night whether we're inside or outside so

in the spirit of having information and jokes

here are the nominees for outstanding writing for a comedy series

the quinta brunson

elementary then

calls have you down

and then.

Nathan fielder kerry campaign.

And the earth no technical

rehearsal.

Boss

Your next presenter has won ten Emmy awards

she's also been nominated forty six times while

please welcome thirty six time loser Tina fey.

Thanks.

I am in an awkward position tonight

given my personal relationships to the

nominees for outstanding live variety special.

Two of the nominees involve snl where i worked for nine years

so yeah.

Day when people might think i just opened the envelope and said

snl out of habit

like that time i accidentally gave a Mark twain prize to Alexa play rain sounds.

That i will pay for the time NATO will pay for the time we took that job

that if the ninety seventh annual academy awards hosted by conan o'brien wins

people might wonder is that true or is she just pranking conan

which could happen because we are nemeses.

I might say conan one that didn't take the award home

and then call the police and say stole it we don't know

we don't know what I'll do.

If Kendrick Lamar's super bowl halftime special wins.

I am really going to hear it from Drake.

Drake and i are supposed to play pickleball tomorrow so

anyway.

Really the only safe outcome for me would be the beyond save all.

So so as always thank you beyond say.

Anyway whoever wins for the love of god don't come up

here and kiss my stomach because i am not pregnant.

Here are the nominees for outstanding live variety special and god help me.

The apple music super bowl fifty nine halftime show starring Kendrick Lamar.

Three on the table.

Oscars.

Snl fifty the anniversary special.

Fifteenth the homecoming.

And the Emmy goes to.

Snl fifty the anniversary.

Nomination.

Picture.

Though because of the money i'm just start talking

quickly.

I

would i.

Er won this award for the first time.

Fifty years ago.

In nineteen seventy five.

I was younger and i

logged

a lot of

dreams about what would happen to my life

and not one of those dreams was.

That i'd still be doing the same show for the next fifty years.

However over here we are.

Want to thank.

Nbc and comcast.

For their support.

The show.

Was two years in the planning.

And they said we don't care

what it costs.

As long as it's good.

Maybe they didn't share that maybe that's just the way i heard it.

Way we're

also want to thank the academy for

continuing

to keep the word television

in their name

as long as it's

in there will keep showing up

thank you.

Three three time Emmy winner Alan cumming the two time Emmy winner

Walking interesting

dropping a perfectly executed mirage shedding a single tear and then

disappearing before everyone realizes you're the reason they'll keep watching

their indelible performances this year.

That coming up

Michael scherer and Kristen bell present the

Bob hope humanitarian award to television images

Ted Danson

and Mary steenburgen.

Bryan Cranston presents the Emmy for outstanding talk series

and just ahead

lady Wilson and Vince Gill

pay tribute to those we lost this year.

Body

is my honor to introduce our next speaker

is an accomplished television executive

an entrepreneur

award winning producer

what's more

he is a leader deeply committed to humanitarian

causes and to the power of storytelling.

Please welcome our television academy chairman

Christopher idle.

This last Sunday

at the creative arts emmys.

I had the honor

of helping present the guy governor's award

to the corporation for public broadcasting.

More than fifty years cpp has been the backbone of American public media

bringing us everything from sesame street

to mister Rogers'

neighborhood

through finding your roots

and keeping free local stations alive across the nation.

Then in many small towns those stations weren't just a cultural lifeline

they were the only emergency alert system families could count on

but at the end of this year

cbp will close the stores

because congress has voted to defund it

and silence yet another cultural institution

and that's a reminder of just how much our work here matters especially right now.

At a time when division.

In a time when division dominates the headlines

storytelling still has the power to unite us.

Television and the artists who make it

do more than reflect society they shape our culture

and in times of cultural regression

they remind us what's at stake

and what can still be achieved

man mash

roots

the late great Norman lear his entire body of work

will and grace.

The handmaid's tale

southpark.

The legacy of late night

for generations.

As for generations of artists have seized

the power of television to broaden horizons

challenge the status quo

and bend that arc

towards

arc of history towards justice.

That challenged the academy and all of us in

this room must continue to champion that power

and wield it responsibly

in moments like this neutrality is not enough

we must be voices for connection

inclusion

empathy

because

yes

though because

we know

that culture doesn't come from the top down

it rises from the bottom up.

This culture belongs to the people.

So if our industry is to thrive we need to make room for more voices not fewer

that's the work of the television academy today

we are almost thirty thousand strong

the largest youngest

and most diverse body in our history

and with that diversity comes a strength

imagination

encourage our industry needs to move forward

so let's do that together

let's keep talent stories

and let's make sure

that culture is not a platform for the privilege

but

for

a public good for all.

Then and now

to present

one of the touted academy's most prestigious honors the Bob hope humanitarian award

please welcome

Emmy nominee Kristen bell

and Emmy winner

Michael shirt.

That Mike and i are here to celebrate our good friend Mary steenburgen.

Who is both

a brilliant actor and a devoted philanthropist.

Where else are here to celebrate Ted Danson.

That is both

tall and from San Diego.

That is according to a bio his publicist sent over

as neither of us is familiar with his acting work.

Together Ted and Mary are an unstoppable force

onscreen and off and tonight they are receiving the Bob hope humanitarian award.

Created in two thousand and two by the television academy's board of governors

this award is given to artists whose philanthropy exemplifies Bob hope's altruism

and positive impact on society

please join us as we salute these two wonderful actors and much more

we wonderful people.

Performances on camera have earned them the

adoration of viewers from around the globe

but tonight

we honor Ted Danson and Mary steenburgen for an

even more meaningful contribution to our world.

Their dedication to the causes they so deeply believe it

they've worked with oceana to protect and preserve the world's oceans

we want to make sure we're not over polluting

waters

there's a ticking clock there's a real problem

we can fix this

and use their passionate and powerful voices to increase arts funding in schools

they are outs spoken allies of the LGBTQ community and

have proudly stood up for individuals and their rights

last year

they were recognized with the Nancy pelosi equality ally award

at the twenty and twenty four equality pac national pride gala

in Washington DC

there are only really two emotions

love

and fear

everything we do boils down to one or the other.

They've supported the missions of numerous organizations

such as the Elizabeth glaser pediatric aids foundation

no kid hungry

heifer international

progeria research foundation

and pathway to kinship working with currently and formerly incarcerated citizens

and together they helped co-found

angels at risk

a nonprofit organization that addresses the crisis

of drug and alcohol abuse in teens and families

by creating educational programs and services

to raise awareness for addiction prevention

intervention and treatment

with grace integrity and unwavering commitment

Ted Danson and Mary steenburgen

have built an extraordinary legacy of service

to our people

and our planet.

Then marry on behalf of the television academy we are honored to present you with

the thousand twenty twenty five Bob hope humanitarian award.

Three thank you very much

thank you guys best friends.

Thank you

thank you to the television academy and it's board of governors for this one award.

Is named after a man whose very name

was hope

and that is what Bob hope brought to people

for fifty years as he traveled the world

entertaining our troops.

Reason our love to his family

along with our deepest thanks for this

there is no

honor that would be mean more to Mary and me than this one

the fact that it's been given to both of us means the world.

And this sonnar.

Zaner would have meant the world to our parents because in a way it's about living

the lives they by example taught us to live.

My dad and the Arkansas freight train conductor

play i'd buy all of the rules at work save one.

When he came across a man down on his luck and

hiding in a boxcar

he didn't put them off the train

he let them ride and even though i was a child

i understood well the beauty of that act of kindness

my father was an archaeologist and spent

most of his life digging up and cataloguing

the remnants

of past cultures

he taught me.

This life is not just about us.

A lot of people have come before us and a lot of people will come after us

it's about our stewardship

of what we've been given.

If it's true that life is made up of two emotions love

and fear

the world's a little out of balance right now.

We don't want to live in fear

so

we make ourselves useful working for organizations that move the scale away from

fear and put us smack dab in the middle live love.

Thank you to Jacob Fenton

Keith Adams Eric krans

Joe yeah

and another wolf because for a long time that team of

people has also contributed their own time and caring

to these causes and many more

thank you to our sisters our children and grandchildren

home forests are the best teachers we've ever had

and most of all thank you to you our beloved community

together

we have a sacred assignment to remind the world of it's dreams it's failures

it's laughter it's courage

and most just

actually it's hope

jervis feel very blessed to spend our lives doing just that

with you.

Thank you for this

thank you.

Tonight's accounts

Knowing that their impact will remain.

Knowing that their lasting impressions will continue to live on through story.

Knowing

that they touched our lives.

Whether you grew up watching them.

Or have just now discovered their brilliance their

light remains in the very fabric of our industry.

Performing a song of remembrance.

For all of the members of all our TV families who have passed on.

Hero Vince Gill

and Lainey Wilson.

Feeling a lead actor brings

fourth in a character often resonates deeply

with the audience creating memorable experiences

well trying to navigate complex relationships.

Colin Farrell

the penguin.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Also nominated for writing

the adolescence.

Vote gonna kill this

kind of thing doesn't

happen to a kid like me.

I'm just a mixed race kid from a block of flats in a place called Caribbean so

for me

to be here today

in front of my peers and to be acknowledged

by you is the most humbling thing i could ever

imagine in my life and it shows you that any dream is possible

Hallmark of an exceptional talk show

like our nominees tonight.

Is to entertain the audience through witty and

intelligent conversations

with a wide range of guests.

From the learned and inspirational guests like

Neil degrasse Tyson

to the destructive and woke degenerates like Tom Hanks.

Talk show must bring out their very best

every single night.

personally i want to thank my beautiful brilliant

wife Abby who's the real brains of the outfit

my three children

Peter and John.

Dedicate this to my mom and dad her mom and dad and a young

woman who should be here tonight Amy Cole.

Then years ago in September of two thousand and fifteen spike Jones stopped by my

office and said hey what do you want this show to be about

and i said asked by guy i dunno how you could

do it but i'd kinda like to do a late night show

you know a late night comedy show that was about love

and i dunno if i ever figure that out but at a

certain point and you can guess what that point was

i realize that in some ways we were doing a late night comedy show about loss

and that's related to love because sometimes you only truly know

how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it

ten years later in September of two thousand and twenty five

my friends.

I have never loved my country more desperately the

god bless america.

If the elevator try to bring you down go crazy and punch a higher floor.

Then

three Romano and Brad Garrett present the Emmy for outstanding comedy theories

our luvvies daily

i'm sorry i forgot.

This was a huge collaboration what we do it's not a game of forty

do you know what i mean

is there is no win isn't it is no loses it's all subjective

but what we are managed to create was it was a beautiful family

and

whether you was number one on Nicole sheets or number one hundred and one

we were treated

equally and everyone was respected and treated with the utmost of respect

all the same.

That's how you get the best way i can

so you get the best out of your people

you know what i mean if you fill them with love

and give them that opportunity so whether or not you are

an executive producer like the wonderful Jeremy from plan b

or

you would a fellow that was cleaning the toilets in our winnebago's

we would all equal

so just look after each other

and give you a meta caloric case and sell them

he loved them

goodnight god bless.

Alright.

Yeah.

This night.

It's been great for me because i honestly i think I've made money.

What is it at.
