According to her record, she was
vaccinated for serogroups A, C, W, and

not B.

At this time, we cannot confirm what
serogroup is responsible here.

How did I miss this? I'm a nurse.

A lot of teens aren't vaccinated against
meningitis B, but there are vaccines

that can help, and not all parents know
to ask about them.

So do we know how this happened to her?
There are so many possibilities.

The bacteria can live in the back of the
nose and throat and can spread through

respiratory droplets.

16 to 23 -year -olds tend to be one of
the most affected groups simply by the

nature of their activities.

Like what kind of activities?

Sharing food, drinks, utensils, kissing,
just generally being in close contact

with one another.

Are you saying this is like her own
fault?

No. No, honey, nobody's saying that.

So what do we do next? What's the plan?
If her condition continues to worsen...

We may need to put her into a medically
induced coma to make it easier to treat

her and to ensure that she gets the rest
that her body needs.

Currently, we have her on intravenous
antibiotics in the hopes that it helps

fight the infection.

That's good, though, right?

The medicine will make her better.

That's what we're hoping for, sweetie.

how incredibly sick Ray is.

One in ten people who contract
meningitis die despite treatment,

within 24 hours.
