encounter a bit of cosmic turbulence,

and come back forever changed.

but also their place in our hearts.

And, now, a look back.

This is Excelsior Launch Control.

T-minus 3 hours, 42 minutes, 19 seconds.

[Ted Gilbert] Four years ago,

man and woman conquered
the last frontier as we know it,

the exploration of space.

The best pilot in the world right here.

Yeah. The best-looking he means.

[Reed] It was my mission:
Space exploration.

I assembled the best scientific minds
to come along,

who also happened to be
my best friend,

my wife

and my brother-in-law.

Comms check. Everybody, sound off.

That last voice you just heard

was my baby brother, Jonathan Storm,

and, ladies, he is very single. [chuckles]

[kissing sounds]

[Gilbert] However,
Dr. Richards's expedition

encountered an unforeseen event

that changed not only the lives

of these courageous individuals...

[Reed]

Obviously, while we were in space

due to errors on my part...

a cosmic storm that altered our DNA.

[control] Rescue in progress
of the Excelsior launch.

[Reed] We came back with anomalies.

[Gilbert] And they
returned with superpowers.

[♪ triumphant music plays]

[breathes heavily]

[grunting]

when Mole Man attacked.

[Gilbert] And when the Mad Thinker

tried to sabotage New York City

the Fantastic Four came to our rescue.

[gasps]

- and his Super-Apes.

They became our inspiration.

This equation not only confirms
alternate dimensions,

but it suggests parallel Earths

exist on different dimensional planes.

in the Proxima Delphi system.

Five have disappeared, that I'm aware of.

There might be more that fit the pattern.

That they've been chosen with great care.

the herald's energy signature
