ANNOUNCER: Previously on The Voice...
Way to blow the blinds wide open. That was badass.
(SINGERS VOCALISE)
I'm gonna go with Team Richard.
Richard. Richard.
Yes!
# My team is full. #
Richard and Melanie C completed their teams.
You are born to do this.
You just own that stage. It's so natural to you.
I'm gonna go with Melanie C.
Yes.
My team is full.
Mission accomplished.
(SINGERS VOCALISE)
It's the massive final night of blind auditions.
You've got something special. You've got a hell of a voice.
It was pure magic.
And emotions are running high.
Come on, Mummy.
Your voice moved me.
But your story...
Sorry, sorry.
It's Ronan versus Kate
in the race to close out their teams.
I really, really want you. And I don't want Ronan to get you.
I've got so many ideas for you.
Please come to Team Ronan.
The thing is, I'm the only Australian
on this panel.
Oh, not this again.
The Australian card.
I have to go with Kate.
Yes! Whoo-hoo!
Wow, you lost to that.
Oh. (LAUGHTER)
We're right at the end of the blind auditions.
So, here we go. Let's go, big applause.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Come on. We're almost there. (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Come on. Almost there, folks.
You two have both closed your teams.
Well, it's you and me again.
What? It's you and me again. I can't believe it.
My nemesis.
You again? Yeah.
We've both got two spaces left. Mmm.
Oh, my lord. It's going to be a cat fight.
(LAUGHTER)
(INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)
My name is Cle Morgan.
I'm 44 and I'm from Melbourne.
I have three beautiful children.
Hello. Hello. Oh!
Sorry, did I interrupt?
I'm a jumpy lady.
Yeah. Are you nervous, Cle?
Oh, definitely. Yeah, I bet you are.
What do you think about Mum
getting out there and auditioning today?
So, excited. Yeah.
Yeah, she's my hero.
Ah, isn't it beautiful that kids feel like that about you?
Yeah. I didn't prep them at all.
Nah, I was gonna say I'd have to pay mine to say that.
They're saying all the right things.
Well, that means you've done a good job.
I worked in a band every weekend in Perth,
and I met my wife at a nightclub.
We saw each other and I was like, "Hi."
She goes, "Hi." And that was it.
It was love at first sight.
And we were together for 13 years.
Um.
My beautiful wife passed away 2.5 years ago.
Um, yeah.
It's-it's... I, um...
A heartbreaking honour
to have been loved,
um, like that and to have loved like that.
She's my best friend.
I-I...
I-I can't actually allow
that to be the end of the story.
So, I'm kicking myself out of my comfort zone
to do something that I love doing.
And at the very least,
I need to show my children there's joy to be had.
And I'm gonna get some of it.
I'm not here to compete.
I'm not here to do the best performance.
I'm just here to just try.
Artist walk in.
I'm just really proud of mysel for leaving the house, to be honest.
Yeah, girl.
Go, mama. You got this, mama.
She's beautiful, your mum.
She is.
# Holding me back
# Gravity is holding me back
# I want you to hold out The palm of your hand
# Why don't we leave it at that
# Nothing to say
# When everything Gets in the way... #
Wow.
# Seems you cannot be replaced
# And I am the one who will stay
# Ooh, I
# In this world
# It's just us
# You know, it's not the same As it was
# As it was
# As it was... #
Yeah.
# You know, it's not the same... #
Yes! Yes, yes!
# Go on get ahead Light speed internet
# I don't want to talk about The way that it was
# Leave America to kids, follow her
# I don't want to talk about Who's doing it for us
# Oh
# Oh
# You know, it's not the same
# As it was
# You know, it's not the same
# You know, it's not the same now. #
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Yes!
Oh. I did it.
Thank you. I love you.
Yes, mum.
Oh, god. I'm speechless.
That was not only
the most emotionally connected singing
that I've heard on this stage,
but also the most dynamic performance.
What's your name? Where are you from? Tell me.
My name is Cle Morgan. I'm from Melbourne and I'm 44.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Yeah, mum! Love it.
So, Cle.
So, what...what...what brings you here?
What's your history with singing?
Oh, I've been singing since I was 20.
I'm here to chase some joy.
My wife passed away 2.5 years ago,
and I could see a reality
where I'm just cleaning the bench
and going to Coles and taking the kids to school,
and, um I can't let that happen.
So, I had a strong feeling to come here.
I'm just so happy that I did it,
because this is kind of the time
where you would want to be at home and not be looked at.
Um, yeah, I feel pretty raw and vulnerable and yeah.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Oh, wow, look,
I'm so sorry, that is so sad.
You have such a gift.
You can clearly take these emotions and channel them
in such a gorgeous way,
in a way that makes us feel all connected to you.
Thank you very much.
I would absolutely love to have you on my team.
Thank you. Thank you.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Hey, Cle.
First of all, I want to say I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thank you.
And I really have so much admiration for you
that you've come here and shown this courage.
Your voice is beautiful.
I love that breathy tone, and I-I love this song.
Beautiful choice of song.
You know, you really took those lyrics
and you made them your own.
My team is full.
But I'm so happy that you're here.
You know, you got two great coaches there to choose from.
Thank you.
So...
That was beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
I was so caught up in what you were doing,
and I had no idea,
obviously, of what was going on in your mind
while you were singing those lyrics,
but it makes total sense, sadly.
I'm really sorry for your loss.
And the only reason I didn't turn is because
I have no slots left in my team.
It was just that
it was not anything negative about your performance,
because it was so beautiful and so emotional.
And you're-you're fantastic. You're really fantastic.
Thank you.
Hey. Hi, Ronan.
I'm struggling. I'm sorry.
Um. I'm sorry.
Your life is sh...
I know, right? It's crap.
You're lucky you got those beautiful babies over there.
Yeah, yeah.
I know. Um, it was gorgeous. I loved every minute.
I lost... Yeah.
I lost my brother two years ago.
Sorry and...
Sorry. Oh, shit. Sorry.
(APPLAUSE)
Thanks. Um...
Like the guys said,
I hadn't listened to the song like that before.
Uh. It's-it's true.
It's never the same again. You know.
Yeah.
Can I just interject something really quick?
Yeah. In this moment?
I'm so sorry for your loss. And I'm so sorry for your loss.
But you know what I keep thinking about?
When the minute you finish singing.
The smile on your face. Yeah.
You haven't lost your joy.
You know, what she would want for you.
You know, what your brother would want for you.
And that's what it's about.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
(APPLAUSE)
Yeah, so, let me...let me get on the performance.
It was gorgeous, it was so emotional,
it was so beautiful.
Your voice moved me.
But your story...
And that you're here for your-your kids.
You've got a home, at Team Ronan.
I know you've got an amazing home at team Kate too.
So, you know the choice is yours.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE) (TENSE MUSIC)
Ronan.
Oh.
I'm so sorry. I'm so happy you're here.
I'm so happy you're here.
It was beautiful. It was gorgeous.
Well done. Well done.
Please.
Amazing. Alright. Whoo.
Hey! Hey, kiddos. Hello.
Hey, yo.
How good was mama?
Hello. Hello. How are you?
Oh, my god. How amazing.
Isn't he good?
Hi. How are you?
(OVERLAPPING CHATTER)
It's amazing.
She was so good. Yeah.
I'm so proud.
She's joyful. Yeah.
She's not sorrowful.
It's a really tough thing when you've lost,
when you've suffered such a loss
as many of us have to remain joyful.
And I could see that in her face.
Oof.
So, it's so amazing. Thank you for choosing me.
Thank you. Thank you. Welcome to Team Ronan.
We're going to have a lot of fun.
Start thinking about songs. OK.
Thank you, See you, guys. Bye bye.
(CHEERS)
She was just beautiful. It was so raw.
It was such a raw performance. You could hear it in her voice.
I'm very lucky to have her on Team Ronan.
And she is a contender for the final.
I think I'm going to go with Ronan.
Ronan. Ronan.
Team Ronan. Yes.
I've got nine people on my team. I only got one spot left.
But I cannot believe
the incredible singers
already on my team.
# Just like a white winged dove
# Sings the songs
# It sounds like she's singing. #
I had goosebumps. Proper goosebumps.
I've got undiscovered gems.
# I lose control
# When you're not next to me. #
Were you the girl that was singing in the audience?
Oh, my god. Yeah.
Whoa!
Whoa.
I've got piano man.
# These beautiful things
# That I've got
# Please stay
# I want you I need you oh, god. #
This is what you are born to do.
This is who you are.
So, I've got a big country voice.
# When you're gone
# Baby when you're gone
# When you're gone
# I'm in love. #
I've got some really intimate voices.
# Place. #
Really beautiful. All that heart.
# Ooo. #
# Go home and not get blown away. #
Oh, come on, let's go.
# Ain't nobody Gonna steal this heart away. #
You know, if you go anywhere else, I'm gonna be so hurt.
Unbelievable.
# Change. #
There you go.
Come on.
# I'm losing my mind Giving it all yeah. #
I'm really happy with the team. So, many incredible voices.
And I'm pretty bloody good.
So, I don't understand how I can't win.
Do you know what I mean? I mean.
# This is The Voice. #
# This is The Voice. #
# Turn up the temperature
# Turn up the radio
# I wanna soak up every moment, Take it nice and slow... #
My name is Jayd Luna, I'm 25
and I'm a lifeguard at a waterpark.
# And it's got me singing
# Ooh-we... #
(BLOWS WHISTLE)
I just absolutely love seeing everybody's happy faces.
Sending them down the slides. Making sure everybody is safe.
I think the best part about working at the waterpark
is getting to go on the rides after work.
I'd be like. (SCREAMS)
Usually that's me. I'm screaming.
I'm like holding on to my dear life and screaming.
Just like... (SCREAMS)
Lifeguarding is super fun and I love it so much.
But I've always known deep in my heart
that my true passion is singing
and performing my songs on the stage.
Did you bring the whole family?
I'm very starstruck.
Is there a superstar coach behind me?
My mum is so proud that I finally auditioned.
She's wanted this for so long.
Like when I was confirmed to audition my mum
instead of saying "Yippee!"
She said, "Finally,"
she said, "Thank go I've been waiting for this forever."
I'm feeling like this could be the start of something amazing.
And that's nerve wracking.
I'm thinking about all the different things
that could go wrong.
Nerves could make me really shaky,
and I could lose control and derail my entire performance.
And I make an absolute fool of myself.
But I'm gonna try not to think about that.
Artist walk in.
Alright, want to go, Kate?
This might be it.
We love you, Jayd. Whoo! Whoo!
Go, Jaydee!
# My feet are aching
# And your back is pretty tight
# We've sunk a couple bottles, babe
# And set our grief aside
# The papers say it's doomsday
# The button has been pressed
# We're gonna nuke Each other up, boys
# 'Til Lord Satan stands impressed
# And here it is
# Our final night alive
# As the earth burns to the ground
# Oh, boy, it's you
# That I lie with
# As the atom bomb locks in
# Oh, boy, it's you
# I welcome death with
# As the world
# As the world caves in... # Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
# As the world caves in. #
Whoo!
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Wow. That was stunning.
Who are you? What's your name? Where do you come from?
I'm Jayd Luna. I'm 25 and I'm from Sydney.
Yay! (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
That was exquisite.
I, you know, I can't turn at this point.
No, I didn't know. My team's totally closed out.
But, like, this is the point
'cause I was like, yeah, my team's good.
I'm happy.
And then you come out and I'm like, grrr, I want another place.
You know, that was... It was really beautiful.
I think what I loved about that performance,
because you did start there so tenderly,
but it just had gears,
you know, you kept going and going and going
and I didn't know the song.
And I think sometimes you kind of you think,
am I going for the song?
I love the song.
You know, that's what's capturing me.
But with you, it made me want to listen
because I didn't know it.
So, it was beautiful to-to be introduced to that song.
Do any of us know that song?
No. No.
How did you choose that song? What is that song?
It was kind of trending
a little bit on, like, social media for a little while.
Gotcha.
We're showing our age but not knowing it.
Yeah, yeah.
But I guess I've stumbled upon some kind of hidden gem.
Yeah, well, you have,
but also you did something that was really smart,
which is you chose a song that is not in our consciousness,
so, we have nothing to compare it to,
because when you choose a song like 'I Will Always Love You' or,
you know, a Sia song, whatever,
you're gonna always compare to the original.
That was a very smart move on your part,
and I would encourage you as you're going forward,
to make those kind of choices, because that's what artists do.
So, nice!
You know, I like I feel like
I was really hoping that the song would go really well.
I wasn't even sure that I could get up here
and do the song justice.
So, hearing you guys say so much about it...
You should be very proud.
You know, it's something that we haven't heard on this stage.
Is this intimacy that I felt you brought to that.
I felt like you were whispering gently into my ears.
You know, for the first half of the song,
it was tasteful.
It was gorgeous.
It was...it was...it was pure magic.
It's pure magic. (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Thank you so much. Thank you.
That was beautiful. It was gorgeous. Mesmerising.
Tell me, what's the dream? What do you want to do.
At the moment I work at a water park as a lifeguard.
I love water slides.
She'll be looking for a discount.
You know, be careful.
I write, and I sing and I perform, and I love it so, so, so much.
You've got something special. You've got a hell of a voice.
Thank you. Thank you so much. You really do.
Thank you so much.
You've got a home, at Team Ronan.
Look, I just...I just want to say because I really, really want you.
And I don't want Ronan to get you.
So, I just want to just pitch a little bit more.
You mentioned that you felt so nervous
that you didn't even know
if you would be able to get up on this stage.
And-and I have had a lot of experience
dealing with nerves.
I get super nervous myself.
In the lead up to Eurovision,
I basically had diarrhoea for three months.
That's great.
And so I feel... Oversharing, oversharing.
I say that was messy.
Yeah, it was a messy time,
but, so, I had to learn all of these incredible techniques.
These almost...
What was... Tell you what? Ooh!
(LAUGHTER)
Oh, sorry.
Some good technique.
Alright.
OK, alright. Sorry.
Some of us are taking this seriously.
Oh, sorry. Sorry.
I have a very few simple things that I'd love to work with you on
that I think will really help diffuse that-that fear.
And I'd love to be given the opportunity to do that.
Thank you guys so much. Thank you, thank you all of you.
So, Jayd, the choice is yours.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Come on. Thank you all so much.
(TENSE MUSIC)
I...
will have to go with Kate.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Whoo-hoo!
Oh. Thank you.
(INDISTINCT CHATTER)
Well done. Nice.
Brilliant. So fantastic.
Oh, my gosh!
I'm crying so much.
You must be so proud.
We're so glad that you picked to be Team Jade.
And so we just wanted to present you with...
Oh. Thank you.
I love it. Thank you so much. I'll see you very soon.
Congratulations. Enjoy the rest of your night.
You too.
(SCREAMS)
I hope you learned your lesson. Yeah.
You should have been telling her
that you'll teach her how to not shit herself.
Hey, I mean, know what I would do?
(LAUGHTER)
Wow, you lost to that. Oh.
Jade becomes the ninth artist
to join Team Kate,
leaving one spot to fill.
Ronan also has one spot left on his team.
So, for the artists still waiting to audition,
there's never been more pressure to turn a chair.
I know there is no room at all to make a mistake today.
The heart is going a million miles an hour.
I'm gonna have to really fight for that turn.
# This is The Voice. #
Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise for our coaches.
Haven't they been amazing to be here?
Smashing it up. You were unreal as well.
We are getting towards the pointy end.
How good are the seats here, by the way?
Wow, these chairs do get uncomfortable.
Man, my back.
My name is Glenn Welsh.
I'm 63 and I'm from Mona Vale,
Northern Beaches.
People call me Welshy, if you buy me a drink.
For the past 40 years,
I've been a surfing chiropractor.
And I was lucky enough to work on the World Surf League
for about 30 of those years.
Travelling the world, treating surfing, injuries.
Guys like Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater were patients of mine on the tour.
Life took a U-turn, as it often does.
I was diagnosed with benign brain tumour
and the deep part of the brain,
which is hard to get to and hard to get surgery.
What people don't know
is that benign brain tumours can still kill you.
It's not just malignant ones.
And who knows how much time I've got left on this earth.
But I've always loved music.
Music's been a huge part of my life.
This is what I wanted to do. I don't want to die guessing.
We're very proud of you, dad. Yeah.
It's exciting.
Yeah. Yeah.
Oh, don't you make me cry.
No tears, no tears. It's all happy.
Yeah, but it's just...
It's so nice to see 'cause you've seen us,
you know, out at sport performing.
And now we get to see you up there doing something that you love.
So, that's super special for us. Yeah.
Yeah. (LAUGHTER)
I'm just excited to never to hear 'Sex on Fire' again after today.
Me, me too.
No more. Please no more.
So, the song I'm singing for my blind audition
is 'Sex on Fire' by Kings of Leon.
I'm going to put my Welshy flavour on it
and be hitting notes that even Kings of Leon don't hit.
I'm ready to take it by both hands and give it a red hot crack.
You got this, Welshy.
Go, Dad!
# Lay where you're laying
# And don't make a sound
# I don't watch them
# They're watching
# All the commotion
# The kiddie play
# It has people talking
# Oh, they're talking
# Yeah
# Your sex is on fire
# Well, it's not forever
# Well, it's just tonight
# Well, you're the greatest
# You're the greatest
# We're the greatest
# Yeah
# Your sex is on fire
# Yeah
# Your sex is on fire
# Heeeey
# Yeah, you're watching with fire
# Yeah. #
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Well done, mate.
Hey, thanks, Richard.
What's your name? Where are you from?
My name's Glenn Welsh. I'm 63.
You're not 63.
I know, it's hard to believe. Get outta town.
Yes, I am.
Tell me about you and how long you've been performing.
Like forever? Sure.
Um, I was in garage bands as a kid when I got to Year 12.
My dad sort of said there's no money in music.
So, I went to university instead and became a sports chiropractor.
And that's been a great career.
Actually, my back's not great.
I'm glad you're here. Yeah. Yeah.
So, what made you decide to come on here now?
Well, I just realised that, you know, life's short.
You get one crack at this,
and, um, so yeah, I just wanted to really,
you know, give it a go.
Yeah, man.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry you didn't get any turns.
It was a high voltage performance. You really lifted the energy.
But I'm at the pointy end,
and I'm looking for just-just that one thing that just,
you know, blows me away.
Yeah.
I'm sorry you didn't get a chair turned around.
I love that song. I'm a big fan of that song.
I for me, it was it felt a little, um, shouting in the pub for me
and I didn't hear dynamics I would really work on,
kind of like laying back and then giving me,
giving us a little bit more here and a little less there.
You don't have to give 10,000% from the beginning to the end.
Yeah.
My team's full, so I couldn't turn around.
But I found you do something which I have a habit of doing too.
So, within the journey of this song,
in the verses, I felt there was a bit
that was too staccato.
You know, you were kind of like cutting off.
It was clipped.
Yeah. And...and...and I know I do that.
So, it makes my ears prick up and go, oh, that's what I do.
So, maybe just be a little bit aware of that to-to
maybe make things flow a little bit more in places.
Sure, sure. Thank you. Yeah.
But it was a great performance. I really enjoyed it.
And I love you've got a fan club here as well.
And there.
Way to go, Glenn. Thank you, Welshy.
Thank you, guys. Thank you very much.
Appreciate that.
Thanks, buddy. We got my back.
Yay.
Great job.
Thank you. You did so good.
You did well! Killed it.
You did so well, you did so well.
So, the biggest takeaway from this experience is
don't give up on your dreams if you think you can do something.
Have a crack. Don't die wondering, you know.
Maybe you need to be Ronan's personal,
you know, chiropractor.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Saw him slouching.
I want to go have a beer with him. Yeah.
I want to get my back sorted out.
Coming up...
Ronan and Kate have battled for artists
throughout the blind auditions.
I was the first to turn.
You're always the first to turn.
Well, I know something good when I hear it.
Takes you a little bit longer.
If there's anybody qualified
to take you somewhere in this competition.
It's not Ronan.
Oh, really? Really?
And now they each only have one spot left.
Who will be the first to fill their team?
Kate! Kate, Kate, Kate, Kate.
Come on over here to Team Ronan, please.
GOOD EVENING FROM THE SEVEN NEWSROOM,
# This is The Voice. #
Alright. One to go, Kate.
One to go.
You got this, you guys. One of you does.
I really feel like you and I should be sitting here like this.
Yeah, right.
It should definitely be a little cocktail.
My name is Marie Brunelli.
I am 17 years of age
and I am from Melbourne, Victoria.
# So, are you
# Yeah, are you
# Yeah, are you ready for this? #
I love doing kickboxing. It keeps me fit.
And because I wanted to make new friends.
Growing up, making friends was difficult for me.
I'm on the spectrum.
I'm on the autism spectrum and people's perspectives
and the way they look at it think, "Oh, well, I'm weird,"
or they just don't want to be friends with me
because of that reason,
I used to get bullied and be called names
for my appearance and for my singing voice.
Hearing the bullies say that I'm not good enough,
I get self-conscious about myself.
But I will never give up singing
because I feel like I'm home when I'm singing.
Like, I feel like that is my safe place.
We're very proud of you.
Very, very proud. Yeah.
Come a long way.
And we've worked very hard to get here.
So, you should be very proud of yourself.
For sure you'll get a chair turn.
I hope so. Fingers crossed.
Yeah. You will be OK. No problem at all.
You're determined.
You got the will,
and you will get there wherever you want to go.
(SOFT INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)
Getting a chair turn will mean a lot to me
because I love to sing.
It makes me forget about
all the people that I've hated on me throughout the years
I want to prove the bullies wrong when they say that I
am bad at singing or I have not a good voice
will make me realise that I am meant for doing this.
Artist walk in.
And I am meant to be a singer.
# I'm trying my best
# To keep you satisfied
# Let you get your rest
# While I stayed up all night... #
Settling in, settling in.
# Oh, am I greatest
# My congratulations
# All my love and patience
# All my admiration
# And all the times I waited
# For you to want me naked
# And made it all look painless
# Man, am I the greatest... #
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
# Man, am I the greatest
# Man, am I the greatest
# God, I hate it
# I shouldn't have to say it
# You could've been the greatest. #
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Hi.
Wow. That was magic. Pure magic.
Thank you. Yeah.
What's your name? Where do you come from?
My name is Marie Brunelli.
I'm 17 years old and I'm from Melbourne, Victoria.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE) 17.
Wow. You're only 17.
So, are you still in school or did you just...
Yes, I am, I am still in school.
I'm in my last year of Year 12.
God, I could feel your emotion so vividly in that song.
I'm just... I'm curious. Where does that emotion come from?
Well, I have been diagnosed with autism,
so, emotion is a really big thing for me.
And so just singing songs,
um, I really relate to has made me conquer
the bullies in my life,
and it has been my dream to come on the stage and to sing.
And I am just so grateful to be here.
And thank you for turning.
Oh, good on you.
I really hope that the bullies are watching right now at home.
Yeah, they can suck it.
(APPLAUSE)
I-I, ah, empathise so deeply with that.
I mean, I was bullied really badly
in primary school and in high school.
I've got a song about it, actually.
And, I mean, it's so hard at the time.
It's so, so rough.
But in a strange way, through music, you can spin that pain into gold
It's a kind of alchemy.
I think you're quite incredible,
and I would absolutely love to have you on my team.
Thank you so much.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Hey, Marie. Hi.
That was an exquisite performance.
And, you know what,
I had a bit of bullying at school as well.
And, you know, I really fee obviously now being older and wiser,
I realise often people with a gift,
you know, your voice is incredible.
You are beautiful.
Thank you. You know, people don't like that.
You know, they want to knock it down.
So, you know, in a way take that
and help it motivate you is a superpower.
Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you.
You are magnificent.
Thank you.
Your voice is outstanding.
The way that you connected I believed you,
I believed it was your song.
It came from you. Yeah.
And I've got so many songs
that I could give you that I know you would connect
and you would take the roof off this place.
So, please come to Team Ronan. You're amazing.
Thank you. Thank you.
We both have one left, one space left on each team.
The thing is, I'm the only Australian
on this panel.
And... Not this again.
Australian card.
And I say that because it's really important to me
to keep in touch with my artist and nurture them over the long-term.
I got so many ideas for you
and I'll get you to where you need to be.
Please, please.
This is a match that makes sense on so many different levels.
It's a no-brainer which coach you should go for.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
The choice is yours.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Kate, Kate, Kate, Kate!
I just wanted to say thank you, both of you,
for turning for me.
The coach I'll be choosing is...
# This is The Voice. #
The choice is yours.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Kate, Kate, Kate, Kate!
I just wanted to say thank you, both of you,
for turning for me.
The coach I'll be choosing...
(TENSE MUSIC)
..is Kate.
Yay! Amazing.
Well done. Yes.
Thank you so much.
Oh, gosh you're spectacular. Thank you.
It was absolutely divine.
That was so beautiful.
I really hope we get to work together.
Thank you. You're amazing. You're amazing.
I'm happy you're on the show.
That was so good to hear you sing. You were brilliant.
Thank you. Thank you.
Well, OK.
One more.
Hello!
Aah.
Well done, Marie.
Oh, my god. That was so amazing.
You did it!
She absolutely knocked that out of the park.
I mean, that was ridiculous.
One of the best auditions we've heard.
Thank you very much. Thank you. That means so much.
Thank you so much.
So, stunning.
And I just... I can't wait to work with you more.
I'm so excited. Thank you, thank you so much.
Thank you so much. Oh, my god, thank you.
Thank you for choosing me.
I am feeling so incredibly grateful.
I wasn't expecting this to happen at all
and I'm just so excited to work with Kate.
Whoo!
Team Marie, Team Marie, Team Marie!
I lost to Kate again. Her team is now full.
I am the only remaining coach with one space.
Whoo!
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Team Kate is full.
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
My father was the ping pong champion of Charlevill
and I get my competitive spirit from him.
I don't like to lose.
I'm gonna go with Kate. Kate.
Kate. Kate.
Yeah. Talent on Team Kate is spectacular.
So, much heart.
# And when I'm back
# In Chicago, I feel it
# Another version of me, I was in it. #
That was breathtaking.
You just made me feel something
that I've never felt in this chair before.
Astonishing musicality.
# Players only love you
# When they're playing. #
It's so eclectic and exciting.
I could hear that there was something
incredible going on, on stage.
Just pure fun.
# You were nowhere
# Somebody help me. #
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I've got big pop voices.
Really new and fresh and exciting.
(SINGER VOCALISES)
Truly spine tingling.
# Give me A reason to love you
# Oh
# Give me a reason to go
# You are. #
I'm waving my flag.
And...
Oh!
They're all so different.
You know, I've got a classical singer.
(VOCALISES)
Even a rock guitarist.
# Why don't you Stand by me
# And won't you, Won't you
# Please baby please, stand by me. #
It was the ultimate.
You're on Team Kate.
That's OK. Lucky me!
I could not be more thrilled with my team.
This year I'm determined to win,
and I believe I have the winner on Team Kate.
I'm pretty stoked. You should be.
Yeah. Yeah. Well done.
Oh. You missed out. I missed out big time.
There's a chance that I might not get anybody I want.
Yeah, well, there's a chance we'll be here for days and days.
Days. We could be here for weeks, people.
Yeah.
Hope you got your sleeping bags. It could be a long night.
We'll give you a bathroom breaks, though.
(LAUGHTER)
Ah, ah.
Oh, my gosh, this is, like, what I see in the movies.
Oh, my god, it's got my name on it.
Wow. I really feel like a pop star. That is so cool.
My name is Taya Chiappini.
I'm 18 years old and I'm from Perth,
Western Australia.
I absolutely love singing.
That's always been a big part of my life
from when I was a little girl.
I sing because I just have so much fun doing it.
I love how it makes me feel.
The song I'm singing for my blind audition
is 'The Edge of Glory' by Lady Gaga.
I mean, Lady Gaga, she's just out of this world.
# My time's here now... #
It is a big song.
I am not gonna lie. I'm a bit terrified.
# My time's here now... #
There is a risk, but with risk comes reward.
I know that I'm a bit later
in the blind audition schedule,
so, I'm gonna have to really fight for that turn.
I want to hear great vocals.
I want to be wowed.
# This is The Voice. #
I'm not gonna lie. I'm a bit terrified.
I feel so determined to turn a chair.
Artist walk-in.
I know that I can.
I know I have the power to.
Want to hear great vocals. I want to be wowed.
# There ain't a reason
# You and me should be alone tonight
# Yeah, baby
# Tonight, yeah, baby
# But I've got a reason That you should take me home
# Tonight
# It's hard to feel the rush
# To brush the danger, right
# I'm gonna run back to, To the air... #
Come on, come on.
# Where we can both fall More in love
# I'm on the edge
# Of glory
# I'm hanging on a moment with you
# I'm on the edge
# Of glory
# I'm hanging on a moment With you... #
Come on.
# I'm on the edge, the edge
# The edge, the edge
# The edge, the edge, the edge
# I'm on the edge
# Of glory
# I'm hanging on a moment
# With you
# I'm on the edge with you. #
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
I get it, buddy, I get it.
Aw.
Literally that close.
Oh. Hello there.
Hello.
Hi. Hi. What's your name?
My name is Taya.
I'm 18 years old and I'm from Perth, Western Australia.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE) Holy moly 18.
Oh, my god, this is crazy. This is so crazy.
I'm the only coach left with one space remaining.
All their teams are full. They couldn't turn.
And I might have messed up here like, big time.
I think Ronan might have made a mistake there
'cause that was...that was stunning.
You were amazing. You have beautiful tone.
Beautiful. Gorgeous tone.
Thank you.
Amazing control.
Thank you. That's so nice.
Like, really honestly, it was wonderful.
Great song choice.
And the way, you know, you made it your own.
It was really gorgeous.
Thank you. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
No, that's OK. I don't blame you. You've got a hard job.
I think that I might...
I don't want to speak for Ronan, but I was watching him.
I was thinking the same thing.
I was pulling for you to do the things
that would make him turn.
And I think if I'm... Unless I'm wrong.
Part of it was as great as that song choice was
and doing it that way, like, as a ballad,
we still are going to think of the Gaga version.
And when she gets to that. (SINGS NOTE)
That high note, which I can't sing 'cause I'm a guy.
Ah, she sings it with such conviction and power.
And you almost did.
You were going up that scale, and I was like, she's got it.
She's going to She's going to crush that high note.
And you crushed every note but that high note.
It was good.
But it's because we were comparing it.
So, I think what's really smart going forward,
take a song that really challenges your voice
because you've got a great range, you've got a beautiful tone.
Find a song that surprises everyone
that we would, that we've never heard that way,
and be an artist rather than anybody that we can compare you to
And you will crush it.
Come back.
Yes, please. You need to come back.
I will. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you, Taya. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much. Sorry.
That's OK. See ya.
Take care. Thank you, Taya.
Oh, you were so good! I'm so proud of you.
Oh, my god.
That was so beautiful.
I'm a very determined person.
And obviously, deep down,
I'm probably going to be a little bit like damn.
But I understand, you know.
I understand there's one spot left I'm not putting.
I wasn't going to put that pressure on myself.
And I've decided I'm going to come back next year
because I know I can do it.
I know I can get there.
It's a really strange place to be.
Yeah. I get it, man.
I was like, waiting
because I thought if she nails that high note,
he's gonna...he's gonna do it.
Yeah. And she didn't.
Yeah, I know. She didn't, but she was still great.
Yeah. Yeah.
She was still great, so, I was looking
the battle going on in my head was ridiculous.
But we're also not just comparing her to that...
In that performance to a bigger artist.
We're comparing her to the other people we already have.
Yeah, well, this is the other thing.
Especially you got a team of nine.
We're so close. Yeah.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Alright.
Maybe this one, then hey?
Yeah.
Come on.
I'm waiting for something magic.
I'm ready to press my button. I want to turn the chair.
I just want to be blown away.
Hopefully the next one's around the corner.
Any minute now.
Artist walk in.
Come on. Come on.
# This is The Voice. #
# I've been waiting Patiently for you... #
I'm Saralyn Matla. I'm 35.
And I'm from Paterson
in New South Wales.
I love my kids so much They are just little bundles of joy.
I love being a mum, like, it's the best job in the world,
but I sort of felt this pull within my heart to music,
to really give this a go.
Just give it a try.
And me getting up on that stage is hopefully inspiring to my kids.
Good luck, mummy. Smash it out.
Love you. Thank you.
Am I going to do a good job? Yes.
Do you reckon I'm going to turn a chair?
Yes. Aw.
That's exciting.
So, for my Blind audition.
I'm singing 'If 'Tomorrow Never Comes'
by Ronan Keating.
It really brings on the pressure and ups the stakes.
But more than anything,
I really would love Ronan to love my performance.
I'd love to do it justice
and I'd love to definitely make him proud.
Artist walk in.
Come on, mummy.
Aw. Come on, mummy.
Aw.
Oh, god.
Dream crusher. Don't be a dream crusher.
Please, be good. Don't you start.
Come on.
# Sometimes late at night
# I lie awake... # I mean, come on.
# And watch her sleeping... #
Oh, yes.
# Would she ever doubt
# The way I feel about her
# In my heart... #
Gotta be better. Come on.
# If tomorrow never comes
# Will she know How much I love her... #
Why aren't you turning? # Did I try it every way... #

# She's my only one... #
Press that button now or I'll press it for her.
# If my time on earth Was through... #
Come on, man.
# She must face this world Without me
# Ooh
# This love I gave her in the past
# Gonna be enough to last
# If tomorrow never comes? #
Come on. Yahoo!
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Hello.
Mum!
You did it, Mum!
Thank you so much.
Oh, my god. Let me sit down here.
What's your name? What's your name?
My name is Saralyn.
I'm 35 and I'm from a little country town
called Paterson in New South Wales.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Saralyn. Welcome to Team Ronan.
Whoo!
I mean, who knew I just let an amazing young girl go.
And I thought, I've got to wait for something special.
Something magic.
And the universe was looking after me
because I'm mean, it's what I've been looking for.
Thank you so much.
Saralyn.
First of all, that's a perfect name for a country star.
Yeah. Yeah, right?
Right? Thank you.
Beautiful performance.
I mean, very intimidating to sing someone's song in front of them.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE) That song.
Really I was just pouring my heart out to them
because yeah, that song is so special.
(APPLAUSE)
That song means the world to me.
You know, I recorded it 23 years ago.
Over the last few years.
I've lost incredible people.
And the song has become more important to me now
than it ever has before.
I didn't realise how important this song was to me.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Thank you for that performance.
It was gorgeous.
Welcome to Team Ronan.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Thank you. Well done.
Yes. Yes. Whoo-whoo-whoo.
Whoo! Whoo!
We did it, we did it!
Oh, sorry mate. Great to meet you.
I'm so proud of you.
Thank you, baby. Thank you so much.
Hey, kids, how you doing? Hello. I'm Ronan.
Hi. Nice to meet you.
How good was your mummy? Good.
Wasn't she? Hello there young'un. How are you? Welcome to Team Ronan.
Guys, we're going to have some fun.
Oh, my gosh, that is insane.
Meant to be. Just meant to be.
Yes, yes, we did it.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
Whoo!
Hey, you good looking people.
Come up here. OK.
Come on up here. Come on let's go.
Come on up here. Come here.
How about that? Thank you, Sir.
Ladies and gentlemen, our teams are full.
The Blinds are over.
The Blinds may be over but the battles are just beginning.
In the Blinds, it's just you on the stage.
Next, you have to sing with other people
and prove you have what it takes to win.
Two artists will go head-to-head.
Oh, my gosh!
Oh, my god.
No way!
Hello.
But only one can win.
I felt like I was watching two greats.
You guys just blew the roof of this place.
To win The Voice it's more than singing,
it's heart, soul, artistry.
This is their chance to prove they have to have that.
It was perfect. Yes.
The coaches will face tough decisions.
Oh. What am I gonna do?
I can't let either of you go home. I don't know what to do.
Oh, this is brutal. This is brutal.
I'm so glad I'm not you.
But for eliminated artists, there is hope.
Each coach gets one save
that they can use on any artist from any team.
It's time for you to be with a female vocalist as a mentor.
I love Ronan, but he failed you.
It's gonna be tempting to go with Ronan,
the one that you know.
All I want to say to you is look where that's got you.
OK?
I'm gonna tell you right now, if any coach has an artist I want.
I'm gonna take them for Team Richard.
I am wedged between two coaches who have stolen my team members.
Maybe you should have coached them better.
Then in each round, the competition intensifies.
You know, I disagree with Kate.
Well, let's watch the footage back.
Wow. Is it cheating?
Are you OK, Melanie?
I'm not OK.
I'm sorry, guys, I'm really struggling.
Look, guys, just give me a second, 'cause I'm-I'm...
I just need to sort something out.
Just give me a minute, please. Please.
Get set for the most epic season of The Voice ever.
I had goosebumps when you performed that song.
And the best is yet to come.
We search for year in, year out, and you've got it all.
Hi. Hi.
(LAUGHTER)
That was smoking, literally.
