Original subtitles

That was all kinds of awesome.

I think you've got something magic.

You just made me feel something

that I've never felt in this chair before.

I came to this show to win.

If you came to the show to win, I'm your coach.

NARRATOR: It's over halfway through the Blind Auditions

and the competition between the coaches

couldn't be closer.

And...

Oh, that was an accident, right?

Ah. No, that was extremely deliberate.

Come here, Team Ronan. You could go with Ronan.

And Ronan is a good option,

But I'm better. Well, you know.

So... It's reasonable.

I don't know about better.

I think I'm gonna go with Melanie C.

I gotta go Kate.

Me. Oh, my god!

I think I'm gonna have to go with Richard.

Yes!

Congratulations, man. You did a really great job.

(SINGER VOCALISES)

Until one artist

had Ronan pulling the ultimate move.

Come on. (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Whoa!

What?

Dude. I'm sorry. Sorry.

I wanted you so bad I had to use my Ultimate Block.

You're on Team Ronan. Yeah!

(ECHOES)

Tonight, the search for incredible voices continues.

Yes.

I haven't seen this audience react to anyone

as much as they did to you.

Anything in particular you guys are looking for?

I am, I'm looking for a guy that can sing rock,

but not big rock.

You know, what I mean? Bono.

Bono. Peter Gabriel.

Nice. Yeah. You know.

Richard Marx. You're basically...

I'm looking for myself.

Let's go find the next Richard Marx.

Oh, god.

Oh, hi. Well. Hello again.

Fancy meeting you here.

I mean, who doesn't love it when you just turn

and people clap for you?

It's amazing, I love this.

Can you just follow me everywhere?

My name is Matthias Gault.

I'm 21

and I'm from Perth, Australia.

I've been playing music since I was four years old.

The main driver for it was my grandfather.

He was a jazz musician played violin.

We would play songs together.

I would accompany him on the piano while he played violin.

It was a very beautiful time.

My grandfather always dreamed of playing in

massive bands and orchestras,

and he never really got the chance to do that.

Me chasing this dream is carrying on that legacy.

I am the frontman of a band, The Kick Ons.

(ROCK MUSIC)

It's pretty cool. It's good fun.

The way we work together as a band, it's pretty wicked.

This is the first time that I'm,

I guess, I'm stepping away

from the band

and performing on a stage without them.

It's, you know... Eugh. (LAUGHS)

It's-it's weird.

Music dream is to perform to as many people as possible.

And if that's stadiums or festivals, that would be so wicked

This is a great opportunity at the end of the day.

And if this leads to playing bigger opportunities,

then, hell yeah.

Turning a chair, it would be insane.

Just one. I just need one.

It would mean

the freaking world to me.

# You sit there in your heart break

# Waiting on some beautiful boy to

# To save you from your old ways

# You play forgiveness

# He doesn't look a thing Like Jesus

# But he talks like a gentleman

# Like you imagined When you, were young

# Can we climb this mountain

# I don't know, Higher now than ever before

# I think we can make it If we take it slow

# Let's take it easy

# Easy now watch it burn

# We're burning Down the highway skyline

# On the back of a hurricane

# That started turning When you were young... #

Yeah, man!

# Ooh, when you were young

# He doesn't look a thing like Jesus

# No, he doesn't look A thing like Jesus

# But more than you'll ever know. #

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Whoo!

Way to rock that, man.

Oh, my god! Hey!

Thank you. Yes.

Take a...take a second and soak that in.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

What's your name, bro?

Hi. My name is Matthias Gault.

I'm 21 and I'm from Perth, Australia.

Dude.

What a performance. What a way to blow our socks off.

Thank you.

You're 21. 21, yep.

So, how long have you been singing? What's your musical background?

So, a couple years coming up, I think

I'm in a band called The Kick Ons.

Back in Perth. Oh.

So, yeah.

Did you start at the piano?

I did.

So, you play... so, you play piano too?

I play piano as well. Yeah, yeah.

Alright look, dude.

I'm your guy.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

I'm... Right?

First of all, when I was 21, we had the exact same hair.

Yeah. Alright.

Second of all, we're both piano players, singers.

You know, I started out at rock radio.

It sounds like.

Like you're-you're more of a rock guy.

I mean, I think you can probably sing anything,

but I think you probably lean into with that song choice.

You're a frontman. You're like a like...

Thank you.

I have a great experience with-with that kind of singing,

and I feel like you could really go all the way in-in this competition.

Like you could win it.

Oh, yeah.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

And I'll tell you why. I'll tell you why.

Because we've seen some really, really great performances.

But that was a real performance.

That was a real frontman performance.

You guys helped, by the way. Thank you.

So, I really feel like we-we could win it all together,

so, I hope I hope you pick me.

Thank you.

There you go. Fighting talk.

Well done, mate. That was awesome. That was great.

I was really enjoying it.

I didn't turn till-till late because I was enjoying it so much.

To be honest, I forgot I didn't turn.

He almost... he almost missed the whole boat.

Just keep that in mind. Oh, absolutely.

I wish I had turned

so, I could have watched the performance.

The transition from piano to standing up.

Are The Killers your thing?

Is that the kind of the band you want to be?

Ah, so. Killers.

Strokes, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys um...

OK. Queen.

Queen. Of course.

Just. Yeah. We want to do stadiums. That's the goal.

Oh, don't we all. Wow.

Yeah. (LAUGHTER)

Um, OK. I mean, you're awesome, man.

You're a hell of a frontman,

but you're a hell of a singer on your own.

Yeah, you know, I guess you can choose

what you want to do,

but I think the biggest choice you need to make

is what team you want to be on.

And it's very clear that you need to be on Team Ronan.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Stop it.

Thank you so much for that.

I mean, we've heard a lot of singers,

and that was just a shot in the arm

of just energy and joy.

And when I turned around, I wish I'd turned around earlier.

But your stage presence is magnetic.

You know, you can tell that you're a frontman.

You say you-you want to play stadiums,

and I can tell that your performance

is kind of calibrated for that already.

Trying. Trying, trying.

Which is...which is amazing.

I'd absolutely love to work with you.

Um, I think you're really gifted.

Thank you. (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Matthias, right?

Yes. Can I call you Matty?

You can call me Matty.

I'm really pleased I turned early

'cause I got to see it in full effect.

Yeah.

And I would say

I haven't seen this audience react to anyone

as much as they did to you.

And... (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Did you say you've been singing for two years?

Yeah. Just coming up. Yeah, I've properly-properly.

I grew up singing harmonies with my mum and my grandparents,

my grandfather.

But like, performing for two years? Properly. Yeah. Pushing it.

OK, so I feel like you have the charisma.

I feel like you need a little bit more

confidence to bring it out.

You want to play stadiums? I've played stadiums.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

I think...I think I'm probably not the most obvious person

that you would particularly choose,

but I've-I've done a lot of rock music.

I've worked with Bryan Adams,

you know, I've been lucky enough

to work with some incredible artists.

But I am so glad because a decision I made earlier,

I think may have just paid off.

I said to these other guys,

I'm not going to use my ultimate block.

Nah. No, no, no.

I ain't gonna use it I want to stick to my word

because I've got something else up my sleeve.

I have a friend who can vouch for me

and I think can help us on our journey

to getting you where you want to be.

So, you might know this person. What?

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Hi, this is Chris here from the band Coldplay.

Oh, my god.

I'm making this video to encourage you

whoever is watching this,

that if you've made it this far,

Mel C must want you on her team.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

When she coached me,

I was just a helpless nine-year-old

who couldn't sing and couldn't string

a sentence together.

And now I make a living from soft rock music.

All thanks to Mel C.

So, I encourage you to go with her,

'cause not only is she very professional,

she's also lovely and brilliant and kind and talented and funny.

And she can do that high kick from the Spice Girls.

This is great. This is good. Bye.

Matthias. Hold on.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Hold on, hold on, hold on.

Hold the (BLEEP) on.

Matthias.

That was impressive. I'm not gonna lie.

That was impressive. Don't make me do it.

Don't make me do it.

No, I want it to be of his own free will.

It's so bizarre that that video popped up because...

And I'll show you this is true.

Who is the second from the top who texted me today?

Oh, my goodness. Chris Martin.

I told him I was coming down to do the show

and this is the quote,

have the best time, dear Richard,

sending you much love and I hope all is really well.

So, I have a connection with Chris Martin too.

But did he get a video from Chris Martin?

But the difference is... No, he did not.

I can rock you out

to make you win this competition musically

and you need to pick me,

but I want it to be I could...

I could hit the ultimate block right now too.

But I want you to. I want it to be your choice.

And I want you to pick me.

Oh, wow.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

You guys are...

That's-that's serious talk.

Serious fighting talk, you two.

Wow.

OK. OK.

I will say this.

You all bargained really well.

Um.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

I'm going to have to go with...

(TENSE MUSIC)

..Mel.

Aw. OK. OK. OK.

Well done. Alright.

Aw, thank you.

Hello. You're brilliant.

You're so good. Thank you so much.

Oh, my gosh.

I really thought you were gonna go with Richard then.

You missed out on another one. You really wanted him, Richard.

Didn't you? I did. I really did. Yeah.

And now I'm thinking I could have asked Chris

to send in a video.

(UPBEAT MUSIC)

That was so funny.

I wondered, what you were gonna pull out then?

Oh, he's not speaking.

I just texted him back and I went,

thanks to the video you sent to The Voice.

I just lost out on a great singer to Melanie C.

Aha.

I mean, massive thank you to Chris for that one.

Yeah, and it really helped 'cause I was a bit worried about,

you know, saying I wasn't going to use my ultimate block.

And that was just the perfect moment

because now I kind of don't need to, you know, I'm really happy.

I feel like I'm in a strong position.

I'm going to get Mel back for that one.

I don't know when or how, but I'm scheming already.

Next...

The song I'm singing is 'Say You'll Be There'

by the Spice Girls.

This artist is taking a big risk.

I've definitely put my own take on it

and I hope that she likes my take.

But has she added a little too much spice?

I am sweating in nine different languages.

(LILLI VOCALISES)

And later...

I would absolutely love to have you on my team.

Team Kate.

..as the coaches battle to secure artists...

I don't have anybody on Team Melanie like you.

..Richard is forced to pull the ultimate move.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

All of us.

I can't believe you did that.

I'm sorry.

# This is The Voice. #

(PLAYFUL MUSIC)

What's this? Come on.

Alright. Come on. Can you do it?

Oh, oh. Start over there.

Start over there. Yeah, I did.

There you go. And then you got to go like that.

Oh, yakking, he's not even there.

My name is Lilli Vitagliano.

I'm 22

and I'm a vivacious Italian Australian

from Adelaide, South Australia.

# So sweet, so sweet

# So, call me honeybee... #

I work at the honey shop in the Adelaide Central Market.

# So sweet

# So, call me honey, Call me honeybee... #

At the honey shop we sell.

You guessed it, honey.

# Why don't you pollinate The flowers... #

The bees, they're cute.

We love them.

They're the real divas of this honey show.

I did sing around the honey shop I am guilty.

Guarantee when no-one's looking, I am busting a move.

It's a long day. Someone's got to do it.

# Call me honeybee. #

I am feeling like a high vibrational bee right now.

I'm like, up here going. (BUZZES)

We're just so proud of you. Happy?

I am so proud, darling.

I feel like, yes,

I am sweating in nine different languages.

Go out there and own it.

Bring it home, baby. Bring it home.

I love you.

She's a good girl. She's gonna do it.

She is.

She's gonna do it. So proud of her.

The song I'm singing tonight

is 'Say You'll Be There' by the Spice Girls.

Melanie C's freaking sitting right there.

I think I'm the most nervous I think I've ever been in my life.

I've definitely put my own take on it.

And I hope that she likes my take.

CREW: Artist walking.

You can do it, bella.

# Last time That we had this conversation

# I decided we should be friends

# Yeah

# But now go around in circles

# Tell me, Will this de ja vu ever end

# But any fool could see That they're falling

# Gotta make it, Gotta make you understand

# I'm giving you everything

# All that joy can bring

# And now all that I want from you

# Is the promise you you'll be there

# And now

# Oh

# What is the price to be paid. #

My girl. Yes!

(LAUGHS) (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

I recognise that song.

I wonder where from? You think.

Hey, what's your name? Where are you from?

My name is Lilli.

I'm 22 and I'm from Adelaide, South Australia.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE) Ah!

Nice to meet you. Lilli.

So, I'm hoping you're a fan of the Spice Girls.

Oh, let me think about that.

No, 100%.

I did a quiz once, and I did get Sporty.

I think it's a little bit of a resemblance, there,

isn't there?

Hello.

I hope that's OK to say that.

I think that was so bold and gutsy to come on stage

and perform a coach's song in front of that coach.

I mean, that takes... Yeah, for sure.

..massive ovaries.

Ovaries of steel.

Hi.

You know, some of the choices were interesting in the notes,

and it wasn't the traditional melody of the song,

but I can hear the tone in your voice

and you've got... you've got vibe about you.

You're a little pop star, aren't you?

Yeah. You know, it takes...it takes...

It takes so much heart and guts

to stand up on The Voice stage and do this performance.

And you did it. And you delivered.

You've definitely got something.

Yeah! Yes!

Come on over here to Team Ronan, please.

It took me a little bit of time to turn around,

because I could definitely hear nerves

in that performance.

Yeah.

But I just think,

you know, I think there's so much that we can work with, together.

And you... Beautiful song choice. And you made it your own.

You know, it was very different to how we...

to how we know and love it.

But you know what?

I'd like to maybe I-I get so nervous.

Like, I still get nervous always.

And the first thing to go is your breath, you know?

So, I'm thinking, let's...

Should we maybe have a little sing of it together?

Oh, here we go. Yes!

Oh. Darling, lovely to meet you.

OK, so-so, I'm thinking maybe

if we kind of go back more traditionally

to how the song would sound

and, you know, just the diaphragm is our friend, OK.

So, we're just gonna relax, like, breathe into there.

Yeah. Are you ready?

# I'm giving you

# Everything...

You take it.

# All that joy can bring

# This, I swear

# All that I want from you

# Is a promise You will be there... #

(SQUEALS)

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Melanie. Yeah, well, I can see you kind of...

You have a tendency to do things your own way, which is cool.

But, I mean, did you feel... I feel, I felt it.

There was a little bit more control there?

Yes, I did.

Ronan. Good luck, my friend.

Oh, look, I have not a chance.

Not a chance in hell of winning this one.

Yeah, I don't think so.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Gee, I wonder who she's going to pick.

I wonder.

Oh, my goodness.

Um, this is a tough decision. I don't think it is.

(LAUGHS)

Drama.

I choose Mel. Of course you do.

Well done. Well done.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Thank you, my love.

Come on.

Well done, well done. There you go.

Baby. Yes! Yes!

Oh, wow.

Oh, darling, I'm so proud. I'm so proud of you.

Congratulations.

It's so lovely to meet you. That's amazing.

This is Mel.

Don't you think we could be related?

Um, definitely. Yeah.

Oh, that's nice. Brilliant.

Oh, well. Congratulations.

And you enjoy. And I will see you soon.

Thank you so much.

See you later. Thank you, oh.

Oh, gosh. I love you.

Ah!

I did it, and I'm really proud of myself right now,

in this moment.

It's not something everybody gets a chance to do,

so, I feel very lucky right now.

If you're an artist and you're gonna come on The Voice

and you're gonna sing one of the coaches songs to them.

(SONG PLAYS IN BACKGROUND)

That takes a level of confidence or insanity.

I'm not sure which.

(SONG PLAYS IN BACKGROUND)

I was asked to record a Phil Collins song

for a compilation album,

and I was on a radio show, Will Smith, Phil Collins and me,

and they asked me to sing the Phil Collins song.

I sang in front of Phil, his own song.

I have never been so nervous in my entire career.

(SONG PLAYS IN BACKGROUND)

I did 'In the Air Tonight'

with Phil Collins sitting right there

watching me do it,

and I just wanted to crawl under a rock.

I once performed 'Psycho Killer' in front of David Byrne.

He couldn't meet my eye backstage. (LAUGHS)

It was a very different version, let's just say.

# This is The Voice. #

(UPBEAT MUSIC)

So, in the '90s, right, there was a question

that a lot of people asked,

and that was, "Which Spice Girl are you?"

Oh. Yeah.

Interesting choice.

So, obviously Ginger, Posh. Sporty, Baby.

Who's the other one? Scary.

They're all taken.

Well, you know what? I, I've been having a little think.

OK. Who you'd all be.

And I've got some gifts for you to commemorate our time together.

OK, nice. Wow.

Why do I feel fearful of this? So, Kate.

I'm. You are the honorary Aussie spice.

Oh. Thank you. Aw.

That's me.

You're Lucky Spice. Lucky Spice!

To be sure. Oh, I love it.

Thank you, Mel.

I've always wanted to be a Spice Girl.

And then the last one's a little controversial.

And I love you, Richard.

Our Old Spice. Oh.

(LAUGHTER)

Old Spice. In the most respectful way.

Could have just shoved it right into my heart.

(UPBEAT MUSIC)

(WHISTLES)

# So, here we go, go, go, go! #

My name is Charlie Fishwick.

I'm 19 years old

and I'm from the Sunny Coast.

I've been doing volleyball coaching for about four years now.

# I won't stop till I'm the last man standing

# And I won't stop until I get a goal

# So, here we go... #

I think I like making a connection with the kids

and being someone there for a role model for them.

It's very rewarding, very rewarding.

Growing up, I was very into music at an early age,

did music throughout school.

I feel like I can sing,

but The Voice stage is very, very big.

For me, who's only performed in little lunchtime concerts

at schools and in front of friends,

it's a big step up, like,

I've never been a part of something like this.

I'm nervous.

I don't know.

Just shake it off. Shake all your nerves off.

You'll be alright.

You've got it. You've been practising for ages.

I've heard you in your bedroom 24/7.

Look at it all, man. Like this is it. This is happening.

Yeah. It's happening. You can do this.

But this is it.

Come on, mate.

See ya's.

The song I'll be singing for my blind audition

is 'Hallucinate' by Dua Lipa.

It's a big song.

It's a very challenging song for me.

And there's a lot of up and downs.

And some days I can do it,

but some days it's very hard to do it.

My nerves are very fiddly.

I'm worried about shaking on the microphone,

tapping the feet.

Sometimes my leg shakes, voice cracks coming out.

Definitely heart racing. Definitely heart racing.

CREW: Standing by. Two, one. You're walking.

OK. On we go.

# Pocket full of honey

# And I'm ready to go

# I can make you pretty... # Very nervous.

Very nervous.

# I can string you along

# I'm gonna love you like a fool

# And breathe you in Till I hallucinate... #

Got a great tone.

# But I hallucinate

# When you come my way

# I got stars in my eyes

# And they won't fade

# When you come my way

# I wanna be right where you are

# Let's go dancing in the dark Doorway you can push the start

# Lose control

# Kill me softly with your lips

# Wrap me round your fingertips

# Man I need another hit

# You made me lose my mind

# When you call my name

# Got stars in my eyes

# And they won't fade... #

Come on!

# When you come my way I'm losing my mind... #

Come on, Ronan.

# Come on I'm losing my mind

# But I hallucinate

# When you call my name. #

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Hey, my love, what's your name? And where have you come from?

My name is Charlie Fishwick.

I'm 19 and I'm from the Sunshine Coast.

Hey, Charlie. Hi.

I came really close to turning.

And the good news is,

the thing that you have really going for you

is the thing you can't teach,

which is your tone, the tone of your voice,

the sound of your voice, which is really cool.

But I think because of your inexperience

choosing a song that had those kind of things like

(VOCALISES)

it has to be executed so perfectly to really pay off.

Yeah.

So, I would say as you develop your voice,

don't start here necessarily,

you know, but I really applaud you for making a brave choice

and I wish you all the best.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE) Thank you.

You really do. You do have a gift for singing.

So, I hope you go away from this knowing that.

Thank you.

For me, the reason why I didn't turn

and I was a millimetre away from the button

was because I wanted to hear you,

and I felt like I was hearing you

putting on the persona of someone else.

And when you speak now,

you sound completely different to how you did in the song.

Yeah.

So, I think you need to strip all that away

and really tap into

something that feels truly authentic to you.

Yeah.

That's what I would say, but thank you.

You have a gift. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Hey, Charlie.

Hello. How old did you say you are?

I'm 19. 19?

I mean, 19. Brilliant. Oh, to be 19 again.

Ah, I don't need to repeat what the guys have already said.

Because, you know, they've said it. Well done.

I-I auditioned for my band back in 1993.

I was 16 years of age.

Now, I got into the band,

but when we went into the first studio

to record our first single,

the producer was quite a,

you know, a very successful producer.

He'd worked with a lot of big bands,

and he said to our manager, "Get rid of the blonde guy.

"He can't sing."

Now, my manager came and told me this.

Clearly he was right. He was absolutely right.

(LAUGHTER) You know, I've never looked back.

Um, but, you know, my manager came and told me that

now, it could have done two things.

Could have, you know, got all down on myself

and bloody depressed and left the band

and thought, this is not for me.

Or I can go and better myself and-and be the best version

of, of me that I can be.

And I went and I did that,

and I proved that producer wrong

and I became the lead vocalist in the band.

Now... (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

No, but you...

The guys have already told you. You have the voice. It's there.

You have what it takes. You need more experience.

Go out there, get more experience.

Sing in bars, clubs, busk on the street,

on the Sunshine Coast.

Get your...get your guitar Get out there on the Sunshine Coast.

There is no better way Charlie thanks, mate, and good luck.

Thank you so much. Thanks, Charlie.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

(SONG PLAYS IN BACKGROUND)

Oh, Charlie, you did so good, mate.

Well done. I'm so proud.

That was so good. We're so proud of you.

Wow. I think I just.

Yeah, got nervous on the stage, I think.

All the comments were very affirming.

Like they all said, I can sing.

Take away is keep going and keep trying

and got to push harder, try harder.

Big hug, big hug.

Oh. Well done. Yeah. Let's get out of here. Let's go eat.

Coming up, a dancer.

# This is the battlefield

# This is the battlefield... #

A chair turn would absolutely change my life.

A rocker and a carpenter...

It's a good trade to have. It's not what I want to do forever.

Which of these artists

will have Richard using his ultimate block?

# This is the battlefield... #

# This is The Voice. #

My name is Sharon-Rose Rateni.

I am 19 years old

and I'm from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

My biological mother was from Zimbabwe.

She came here to study and fell pregnant with me,

and quickly realised that

she wasn't gonna be able to raise me herself.

And I was five months old when my parents adopted me.

I grew up in a really big Italian family.

I could not ask for better parents.

Look, the big V Rose. The big V.

Just go give it your all and that you'll smash it.

You've got it girl. You've got it. I know you've got it.

Yeah.

This is what we dreamed for.

Yeah. And you're here.

I know, I can't...I can't believe I'm here right now.

# Don't touch my tempo

# Roll with the tempo... #

I've been dancing since I was three.

# Follow my tempo... #

Dancing helps me find my confidence.

And dancing's always been there.

But singing, I've realised that's what I want to do.

The feeling of like being in front of an audience

and singing to everyone

was a feeling that I never wanted to end.

And that was when I realised that I have to do this.

The song I'll be singing for my blind audition

is 'Water' by Tyla.

It's an Afrobeat track.

It's R&B, it's pop.

I'll definitely be throwing some moves in there.

A chair turn would absolutely change my life.

This is what I want to do.

And being able to learn

from one of those coaches would be insane.

I want the world to see what Sharon-Rose has to offer.

You've got this.

# Make me sweat

# Make me harder

# Make me lose my breath

# Make me what I don't believe

# I can keep my cool

# But tonight I'm wildin'

# Ooh, talk is cheap

# Yeah, so, show me That you understand how I like it

# Can you blow my mind

# And set off my whole body

# If I give you my time

# Can you snatch my soul from me

# I don't wanna wait, come take it

# Take me where I ain't been before

# Can you blow my mind

# I set off my whole body

# Yeah, whole body

# Make me sweat

# Make me harder

# Make me lose my breath

# Make me water. #

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Yeah, Rose!

Hi. Hi.

What's your name? Where are you from?

My name is Sharon-Rose Rateni.

I'm 19 and I'm from Melbourne, Victoria.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Oh, it's so good to meet you. I, I absolutely love that.

I thought you laid back in it,

you know, just had like, such a swag to it.

That felt like a real confidence,

but you came out super strong and it just you just got me.

Thank you so much.

Thank you so much. I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, I was totally having a boogie, too.

It was fun. Yeah.

Um. That song is so tricky.

I mean, you were doing all these really impressive kind of ornaments

and turns and embellishments,

but that does mean that it's exposed.

So, if something doesn't go perfectly,

we all can hear that.

Yeah.

So, that's partly why I didn't turn.

And also I was just sitting there going,

"This is for Mel C.

"This is for Mel C." So... Yeah.

So, were you dancing during that?

Yeah, I was. I could tell.

I reckon that's-that's why the breathing

and the pitch was out.

Because you were trying to do everything,

which is impressive.

I mean, I came from a boyband in the '90s, right?

You know, we'd move a lot.

And actually getting regulating your breathing while singing

is not an easy thing to do.

And it takes time.

And there's some very established artists now today

that love to do it.

And you'll go to their shows and you'll see how they struggle.

They try to keep in tune and they don't, they can't.

So, it's not an easy thing to do.

Don't beat yourself up about it.

I think this is a massive learning curve.

You've got a hell of a mentor over there.

The perfect person to take you very far in here.

So, well done. Good on you.

Thank you. Well done.

Just to-to like, kind of expand on something that Ronan said.

There are so many artists that dance,

but they don't sing live.

No.

You know, it happens more and more. Yep, 100%.

So, on this show you haven't got that luxury

to be an artist, you want to be authentic.

You know, I'm 'Sporty Spice'. I love to keep fit.

But one of the reasons I want to keep fit

is because I want to be physical on stage.

I want to run around and I want to sing live.

You know, I wouldn't want to do it

the other way, like the cheating way.

So, you know, I really hop that I can...I can give that to you.

And I just feel like you are a diamond in the rough.

And I'm very excited.

So, welcome to Team Melanie.

Thank you! (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Nice work.

You did so well. Well done. Well done.

Is that your family? Yeah. They're over there.

Nice work.

Come on.

Yeah.

She's got a good home there.

Yeah, she's where she's meant to be.

Yeah, she probably would have picked her

if we all turned anyway.

Yeah. Perfect pairing. Yeah.

Hey, Rose. You beauty!

Sweetie.

Lovely to meet you.

I know, I wanted you too.

I know, I'm so relieved.

I was thinking, I hope you didn't want somebody else.

But honestly.

So exciting. Yeah. Ba ba ba ba ba.

Yeah. Yeah. It's gonna be great.

Thank you so much. Yeah.

Oh, my absolute pleasure. Yeah. Go celebrate.

Yeah. And chill. You can chill now.

It's done. See you later. Bye!

Rose. Rose!

Well done, Mel.

Well done.

I'm so happ I didn't have to pitch for that one.

Thanks, guys. I did appreciate it. No, problem.

We knew you wanted it.

We could tell you really wanted her.

I'm so relieved I didn't have to pitch for Sharon

because I really wanted her.

I'm not the best person for blowing my own trumpet.

Not like Ronan.

So, I'm really happy.

That's-that's a great addition to my team.

That's eight for team Melanie. I've only got two spots left.

These other coaches. They might have to catch up.

Coming up...

My ultimate goal would be some form of rock star.

For sure.

Is this the rocker Richard's been waiting for?

# This is The Voice. #

My ultimate goal

would be some form of rock star for sure.

# I feel like a king... #

My name is Chris Dixon.

I am 33

and I live in a beautiful place called Port Macquarie.

I started performing on cruise ships probably about ten years ago,

and I performed my own rock show, Dixon's Rocking Decades.

It's an absolute joy to perform for people

and just let everybody else have a good time.

So, that's the essence of rock music for me.

I'm going to be singing 'Livin' on a Prayer' by Bon Jovi.

This song is like a pinnacle rock song with any song.

There's always gonna be a moment where you're like,

"oh, it's this moment

"that happens to be the whole second half of this song,

"because as soon as this song gets high, it stays high.

"I just need to jump from here to here and hopefully soar."

CREW: Artist walking.

# Tommy used to work on the docks

# Union's been on strike

# He's down on his luck, it's tough

# So tough

# Gina walks a diner all day

# Working for a man

# She brings home her pay, for love

# For love

# She says "We gotta hold on To what we've got

# "It doesn't make a difference If we make it or not

# "We got each other And that's a lot for love

# "We'll give it a shot"

# Oh, we're halfway there

# Oh, livin' on a prayer

# You live for the fight

# When it's all that you got

# Oh, we're halfway there

# Oh, livin' on a prayer

# Take my hand

# We'll make it, I swear

# Oh, livin' on a prayer

# Livin on a prayer. #

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Hello. How are you?

Yeah, I'm good, thank you. How are you?

I'm really good What's your name? What's your story?

My name is Chris Dixon.

Hey, Chris. I'm 33.

I'm a guest entertainer on cruise ships

with my own rock show.

Ah. Yeah.

So, you perform nightly

like, different kinds of shows on the...on the cruise ships?

Yeah, so, occasionally I get to, like, travel

and I get to do my own show.

It's called Dixon's Rockin' Decades.

So, I get to do, like, Guns N Roses

and a bit of Bon Jovi and all stuff like that really.

Nice. Nicely done. Well.

Thank you. Chris.

At first I was impressed that you're hitting those notes.

And then the next immediate thought I had was that it was really shrill.

The thing that's great is I think that your range

and your instrument is so strong that

you can fine tune that,

you can learn on not being at ten out of ten every note.

You know, what I mean?

And try to round that note

and try to take it a little bit out of your head,

out of your nose.

And that said, your range is incredible.

Thank you, appreciate that.

You've got a really powerful voice. Thank you so much.

Thank you. I wish you the best.

Thank you.

I've got a feeling

that was quite a physical performance as well.

Yeah. I try. The audience reacted really well.

Yeah. Yeah, I went for it.

It was my only time going to be here,

so, I thought I'd go for it.

Yeah, man. Yeah. Good man.

It's a great stage right? Yeah.

Yeah. One of the best, right? Yeah.

With the physicality of how you were performing,

it didn't feel grounded, you know.

And I think for some constructive criticism

with a song like this,

even if it feels a little bit relentless,

you have to find a dynamic in it.

So, you hit it, you give it the energy,

but then pull it back.

But I did really enjoy it

and I think you've got loads of potential.

Thank you. Thank you so much.

What's the dream? What do you want to do?

To sing rock music. To be a rock god.

Go out there and just... Be a rock god.

Yeah, just go full out. You know? Yeah.

But not too much, Richard. I'll take it down a bit.

Well done.

I hear quite a bit of musical theatre

in your...in your voice.

Yeah, that's where I trained. I started in musical theatre.

You've got a hell of an instrument, no doubt about it.

Like Richard said, your range is crazy.

You took on a song that's kind of like

the male equivalent of Whitney Houston,

'I Will Always Love You'.

You know, those moments that Jon hits?

I mean, it's hectic up there. Yeah, it is. Yeah.

And rather than some really great moments,

everything was just a bit chaotic.

So, I think, you know, what you need to do is

put your best foot forward at an audition.

You know, you've got to go find something that

you sing better than anybody else.

Take a beautiful, simple song that you can kill

and...and...and shine.

And then we're going to go, "Oh, my god, this is...

"I could hear this guy on the radio."

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE) Yeah. Beautiful. Thank you.

Great advice. Thank you. Chris.

Thank you so much, mate. Thanks for coming to The Voice.

Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you, everybody. Thank you.

That was a bit of a hard no. That one.

Yeah.

Baby. Ah.

Smashed it.

It's so good to hear.

Obviously I'm a bit gutted that they didn't turn, but it's all good.

Feedback was good, though. The feedback was great.

Yeah, very good. Feedback was really good.

And constructive to let go and work on.

Did you have a good time? Yeah.

I was over there. Get it.

But he could walk into something like

'Jesus Christ Superstar'.

Absolutely. Yeah. He looks the part.

Yeah. Yeah. With that voice.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

I feel like my luck's about to change.

And the one thing I'm really looking for still

is a male singer who can sing rock,

but is not a big, loud rocker,

but that someone who has nuance

and a little sandpaper in their voice.

Um, makes me believe what they're singing.

But they can sing rock and pop.

So, I'm looking for somebody like that.

Coming up...

Singing for The Voice is the opportunity that

people like me can only dream of.

Someone from a little country town,

I feel a lot of pressure

to really go out there and give it my best, because

I don't know, if I'll get an opportunity like this again.

# This is The Voice. #

I love my guitar.

I love my family. I love my dog.

My name's Ethan Calway, I'm 26

and I'm from Warragul, Victoria.

There's plenty to do around Warragul.

I love heading out on the tinny with some mates

and just cracking a cold one and going for a bit of a fish.

I am a carpenter by trade. It's a good trade to have.

It's not what I want to do forever, but I always say to my friends,

I grew up with a guitar strapped around me in the mirror,

not swinging a hammer.

I've picked up the guitar

when I was six years old and I haven't put it down since.

It's what I love, it's who I am,

I started playing music with my brothers at the pub,

it's a good time.

We joke around a lot,

but seriously, you've got the talent

to-to go as far as you want

to go with this.

Your guitar playing is incredible.

So, you just let that lead you and you'll go anywhere.

Totally. And if they don't turn chairs, mate.

I'll come and sort them out for you.

Oh, there you go, Dad. Good on you, buddy.

Well done. Thank you.

(SONG PLAYS IN BACKGROUND)

Singing for The Voice.

Definitely going to be different to playing to

any Tom, Dick and Harry down at the pub,

you know, you got four world class musicians

and artists in their own right sitting in front of you.

Yeah, very intimidating.

(LAUGHS)

This opportunity that people like me can only dream of

You know, someone from a little country town,

it's not really something you grow up

thinking is gonna happen.

I feel a lot of pressure from within to really go out there

and give it my best, because

I don't know, if I'll get an opportunity like this again.

Oh. I feel good about this.

Yeah? Yeah.

I don't know why just got a buzz.

What are you expecting?

Dude, I don't know why. I-I can sense male energy.

Oh, a guitar.

Should I press that?

# Do you really feel The way I feel? #

Yes!

Yes! Yes!

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Four chair turn.

Whoo-hoo-hoo. Fancy.

Nice. Well done.

Hello, sir. What's your name? Where are you from?

How you going? My name is Ethan Calway.

I'm 26. I'm from Warragul, Victoria.

I love it. (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Ethan, you're 26. I am.

Wow, man, you've got such experience in your voice.

I mean, partly because you're a country guy, right?

You're really a country singer? I am, yeah. Yep.

What's your background?

What's your history in country music?

I started playing when I was six years old,

and I've just been playing the pubs and clubs

around the local area

probably since I was in high school,

and-and but I'm a carpenter by trade.

I'm a chippy. Oh, man.

So, that pays the bills at the moment.

Oh, the chippies.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So...

But, um, but yeah, nah,

country music is-is my passion for sure.

Nice well, great song choice, great performance.

Obviously you hav performing experience, I'm guessing.

Yeah, a little bit.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

My three brothers,

we used to play in a little-little country band

back in Warragul.

That's how we started out.

Do they sing too? Ah they do, yeah.

Oh, nice. I bet you guys sound great together.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

I have a pretty good history as a songwriter and producer

in the country world,

and I've co-written not one, not two,

but three of Keith Urban's biggest hits with him.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

I really want a country star,

and you've got that Luke Combs thing.

You've got the Keith thing.

You can probably sing any kind of country.

We can rock it out, we can do ballads,

you can do it all.

And I really, really would love for you

to be on Team Richard.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE) Thank you, thank you.

I mean, that's a pretty good sell, right?

That's pretty that's...

Did you say your name was Anthony? Ethan.

Ethan. Ethan. Sorry. Hey.

He doesn't even know your name, man.

I knew, I knew it, I knew it. Big mistake.

Rookie error.

I've got big history in the country world, too.

I wrote a number one in America

ah for a band called Brooks and Dunn.

Um, I had a number one there,

and I think with the right songs, the right ideas.

And I play guitar, too.

We could...we could come up with some really clever ways

to-to find the next Australian country star,

and ah...

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

And I can help you get all the way to the finals.

So, come to Team Ronan.

Thank you. Yeah. Thank you.

What I loved about that was how effortless it was.

And it's like the guitar and your voice

is-is just an extension of you.

Are you a songwriter? I am, yeah.

Yeah, I... (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

I think...I think you can really tell

because what you brought to that arrangement

was you-you took that song, which is an evergreen song,

and just moved it three clicks towards the country landscape,

but not so much that it turned into pastiche.

It was classy, is what it was, classy, elegant,

effortless and just so comforting to listen to.

I think you've got a great voice and a great vibe.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE) Thank you very much.

I would absolutely love to have you on my team, Team Kate.

I really enjoyed that performance.

I just felt like I'm quite chilled now.

Yeah.

Yeah, I mean, you've really put me at ease,

which is such a lovely place to be.

I don't have anybody on Team Melanie like you,

and I probably will be a bit of a rogue choice,

but I would really enjoy.

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

No!

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Sorry to interrupt you. I'm sorry to interrupt you.

I can't believe you did that.

I'm sorry.

# This is The Voice. #

# This is The Voice. #

I really enjoyed that performance,

I just felt like I'm quite chilled now.

Yeah.

Yeah, I mean, you've really put me at ease,

which is such a lovely place to be.

I don't have anybody on Team Melanie like you,

and I probably will be a bit of a rogue choice,

but I would really enjoy.

No! (CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

All of us. Sorry to interrupt you.

I'm sorry to interrupt you.

I can't believe you did that.

I'm sorry.

I hope that was... I hope that's good for you.

I'm sorry.

I didn't mean to interrupt you,

but she's...

Fair dinkum.

Listen, Mel is a sneaky one and I wasn't gonna let.

I was not gonna lose you. I want you on my team.

Thank you. I got you on my team.

It means a lot, I appreciate that.

Well done, Ethan. Well done, mate.

I hope that's OK.

Oh, 100%. Thank you very much. Appreciate it.

Thank you, everybody. Thank you.

Jeez.

Nasty, nasty Richard.

Come along, man.

Oh.

Oh, that was cold.

That is cold. That was cold, man.

It's a cold move.

And, you know, it was a reasonably good pitch as well.

I thought I did OK. I stumbled a little bit.

No, but...

How can you compete with, like,

"Oh, I wrote three of Keith Urban's biggest hits."

He had 17 songs for Keith Urban.

And yeah, I hate him.

Buddy!

Awesome.

Fantastic. Fair dinkum.

I told you you'd make it, well done.

You really did a great job.

I love your guitar playing. Yeah.

We're gonna have so much fun.

I really think you could go all the way, I really do.

Yeah, let's hope so.

Alright, guys. Fantastic.

I'll see you soon, buddy. Thank you so much.

Congratulations. Thank you.

See you soon. Bye-bye.

Well done, well done. So good.

That felt unreal.

I was I was hoping to go to Team Richard.

So, when he did that for me,

it just felt like we had a bit of a moment.

(LAUGHS) It was good.

I had to use the ultimate block.

I felt like, you know, four-chair turn.

I knew everybody wanted him.

He really did kind of captivate all of us.

And then Mel, when she was doing her pitch,

I felt her body language and I thought,

I'm not losing him, I will not lose him.

So, I just went for it and I'm so glad I did.

And I think he's really got a shot.

So, that's nine for Team Richard.

With one more to go, it's got to be special.

I think I have the team

of the absolutely best singers

here today.

I want you on my team. I got you on my team.

Wow, what an incredible performance, buddy.

He's so great. We're gonna crush it.

I not only have the best quality singers,

but I think I have the most versatile singers.

You know, my team

can kind of do it all.

I'm gonna pick Richard. Go with Richard.

Yes.

Richard. Richard.

Team Richard. Oh, of course.

Having no real point of reference before,

I would say that I'm in really good shape.

Come on. Yes. I got the winner on Team Richard.
