Original subtitles

I've always wanted to pursue music as a career,

but I don't fit the mould of the standard performer.

This isn't just a hobby.

This is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

I just really yeah, I want to be taken seriously.

I've been very new to singing.

So, you know, putting my voice on the line

can be a bit nerve wracking.

Like, whoa, like, this isn't singing in the shower anymore.

Like, what the hell's happening here?

Tonight, a fresh batch of young

and undiscovered artists step into the spotlight.

Listen to that. Take that in.

Holy cow!

That was one of the greatest performances we've seen.

Can you believe a voice like that hasn't been heard?

Like it's a crime?

As our coaches fight harder than ever

to fill their teams.

Come on.

I just I would just like to point out

that you truly belong on Team Kate.

That's bullshit.

And an unexpected discovery.

Really good.

Leads to a massive Voice first.

I want her to do a blind audition.

Like, is that even possible? That's not possible.

I don't know if we're allowed to do that.

Break the rules, break the rules, break the rules.

Aw, The Voice Blind Auditions, season 14.

Make some noise.

# We got those

# Be kind, loving vibes

# Everybody try your cover... #

I'm Callan James,

I am a secondary school teacher.

I like to think that I'm a cool teacher.

My kids have given the yes to that. So.

It is so important to teach teens how to love themselves.

I struggle with it myself

and I don't claim that it's an easy thing to do.

My weight has put me off performing.

I don't-I don't fit the mould of a...

standard performer.

It's taken a lot of courage for me to be here tonight.

The push for me to be here is to inspire my kids,

and for them to see that they can be who they want to be.

The song I'm singing for my audition tonight

is 'Good as Hell' by Lizzo.

Lizzo is empowerment for not just the big girls,

but for the big boys too.

(INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)

Singing to the back of four chairs feels different

because people aren't looking at me.

They're not-they're not judging me based on how I look.

They're judging me based on how I sound.

And I need to nail it.

I don't want my insecurities to hold me back anymore.

(SINGS)

# I do my hair toss, check my nails

# Baby, how you feeling?

# Good as hell

# Hair toss, check my nails, baby

# Ha! #

Yeah.

# Woo, child, Tired of the foolish, go on

# Dust your shoulders off, Keep it moving

# Yes, Lord, Step into some new kicks

# In there, swimwear, Going-to-the-pool quick

# Come now, come dry your eyes

# You know you a star, You can touch the sky

# I know that it's hard But you have to try

# If you need advice, Let me simplify

# If he don't love you anymore

# Then walk your fine Ass out the door

# I do my hair toss, check my nails

# Baby, how you feelin'?

# Feelin' good as hell

# Hair toss, check my nails

# Baby, how you feelin'?

# Ooh. #

He's gonna be so wrapped.

(SINGS) # Feeling good

# Good, good yeah

# If he don't love you anymore

# Then walk your fine Ass out the door

(VOCALISES)

# It's time, Time to check your nails, baby

# How you feeling? Feeling good as hell. #

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Whoo! Yes, baby.

Whoa.

What just happened?

Listen to that. Take that in.

Wow. Congratulations.

What an incredible performance.

So, what's your name? And where have you come from?

Ah, kia ora. My name is Callan James.

I'm 25, from Aotearoa New Zealand.

Yeah! (CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

You're 25? Yeah.

Where have you been hiding?

Well, I love performing,

I loved singing but obviously I'm not a skinny...

Oh, babe. ..or thin person.

Um...

I have been told a lot of the times that...

I have a great voice.

However, no-one in the industry would take me seriously

because of my weight.

Who's-who says that to you?

Bullshit. Because I want to know.

I want to-I want to I want to call them up.

I want to talk to them.

Just people who like to have an opinion on everything.

It's taken me a long time

to build the courage to be able to stand,

especially here.

And just put my whole self out there.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Callan.

I mean, you're amazing. You're amazing.

Don't let anyone tell you any different.

Thank you for coming to The Voice. Thank you.

Thank you, Ronan. Thank you. Thank you, I loved it.

I thought that-that makes me

really pissed off that people said that to you.

Because when I had my chair turned and I couldn't see you,

I could already hear that you had a stunning voice.

But when I turned my chair around and I saw you.

It was even better.

Yeah, 100%.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Well, like every time you toss your hair,

I just got this, like, full body jolt of happiness.

And you have this radiant spirit.

And it's so powerful.

And everybody in the room could feel that, right?

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

I think-I think your true home is-is Team Kate.

It might not be the obvious choice,

but there's absolutely no-one like you on my team.

You're stunning, I love you.

Thank you so much, Kate.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Callan. Way to go, dude. Holy cow.

You have a vibe. You have the talent.

You've got the energy.

One of the greatest singers in history.

And someone who was really dear to me

personally, Luther Vandross.

He struggled with his weight.

And if he were here, I believe he would tell you

to just own who you are.

And the people that...that...that say those things

can nick off.

Yeah. Definitely agree with that. Yeah.

You have such a bright future.

And I just loved watching your performance.

It was fantastic.

So, I would love to work with you.

Thank you so much. Thank you.

I absolutely loved that performance.

You just embody this like superstar.

It's so... Wow.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE) It's like.

It's so inspiring to watch you.

I was just so in that performance.

So, I mean, obviously you can see I'm a huge fan

and I would love to work with you.

I would love to mentor you.

I would love to work with that voice.

I do feel like you could explore so many different genres,

and I think we're a really good fit.

Thank you so much, Melanie. Thank you.

Callan.

It's time for you to choose and...

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Callan I-I haven't-I haven't pitched,

I haven't done my pitch,

I've got...I've got...I've got something to help you decide.

Hey, guys...

it's Robbie Williams here.

And I'm about to tell the world something I've never told before.

If it wasn't for Ronan, none of me would happen.

I could go on and on about what Ronan's done

for me and my career.

He's basically guided me to be the man that I am today.

And without him, I'd be nothing.

I suggest you go for Team Ronan.

There you go, alright, so... (CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Did you get a writing credit on that?

Callan, it's up to you.

But, you know, if I were you, I'd come to Team Ronan.

That's what I'd do. Yeah. Yeah.

Oh, my gosh. Umm.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

I really appreciate all the turns and I appreciate all the love.

It warms my heart so much.

Um...

Oh, my gosh.

I. (LAUGHS) Umm.

Come on, Callan.

I'm gonna go with Melanie C.

Oh, no. No.

I wasted my Robbie video.

(BLEEP) Robbie.

Whoo!

Thank you, thank you for choosing me.

Well done. Well done. You were incredible.

They will be amazing together. Yeah.

Yes. Yes. Yes!

Come on. Oh, my goodness.

What a powerhouse. Oh, my goodness. Great.

A lot...a lot...a lot he can do.

Can you believe... Yeah.

A voice like that hasn't been heard.

Like... Yeah.

It's a crime.

(LAUGHTER)

We did it, Mum, we did it.

Oh, I'm so proud of you.

Thank you, Mum. Oh, my gosh.

Mum, meet Melanie. Oh, hi.

Oh, it's so good to meet you.

Oh, my god, he's amazing. I'm actually quite emotional.

I really didn't kno whether you were gonna come with me.

And I'm just so pleased that you have.

I'm so happy.

I can't wait to see more.

I'm so pleased. Yeah.

Look, you can go and chill now. Thank you so much.

Can I give you a hug? Thank you.

Yep. I'll see you really soon.

Oh, have a gorgeous day.

See you. Lovely to meet you. Bye. Bye.

Oh, my gosh.

Look, if anything was gonna get me this artist,

it was Robbie Williams doing a personal video

saying how awesome his mate is and that you should pick me.

And I didn't get it.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

I'm just doing a lap of honour.

I'm so happy. I-I honestly was quite emotional.

Nothing brings me more joy than beating Ronan at something.

But then when I've also beaten a pitch from Robbie.

Can this day get any better? (LAUGHS)

Hey, make some noise for our coaches,

ladies and gentlemen.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Any actual singers in the crowd?

Like. Yeah. You have someone? Yeah.

Does anyone want to have a bit of a sing now?

Yeah. What's your name?

Alyssa. Alyssa.

Alright, we're gonna sing for us. Alyssa.

Do you guys want to hear Alyssa sing?

Yes.

Jump up! Legend.

Yeah. Jump up for us.

And ladies and gentlemen, help her out.

Clap along. Make some noise for Alyssa.

(SINGS) # Hope you didn't catch a tan

# Hope you find the right man To fix it for you

# Are you shopping anywhere?

# Change the colour Of your hair... #

Wow. She's good.

(SINGS) # Did you have to pay that fine

# He was dodging' all the time?

# Are you still dizzy? #

Really good. Really good.

Wow.

(SINGS) # Valerie. #

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Wow.

Wow. She was amazing.

Come on then. She gets a hat. What do you reckon?

Why don't we get her to audition?

That was unbelievable. Hey. Wait.

I want her to do a blind audition.

What's-what's. Yeah. What's your name?

Alyssa. That was incredible.

How do we, like, is that even possible?

That's not possible.

I don't know if we're allowed to do that.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Would you be up for doing a blind audition?

Yeah.

I love breaking rules.

Yeah.

Well, ask for forgiveness, not permission.

From the grandstand to the blind auditions.

Wow.

Coming up...

Yeah.

It's Alyssa's moment to shine.

I'm still in shock.

It's a dream come true.

But will her voice be enough.

If we're gonna do a blind audition?

The only space that we have is to do it

umm today you do not have much time at all.

OK. Let's do this thing. Yeah.

# This is The Voice. #

(BACKGROUND SONG)

I love The Voice.

You're discovering this untapped raw talent.

The beauty of being a coach

is that you can take all of the experience

that you've had over the years, and you can nurture

people that haven't had those opportunities

and really help them grow to their full potential.

I'm blown away with the amount of young artists

that are braving the stage, undiscovered gems,

and this show is all about finding them.

What I love about young singers

is that they don't know what their limitations are.

They are fearless, and they're willing to take risks.

This is The Voice season 14

and I'm Boriss Bendrups.

I'm 18

and I'm from Castlemaine, Victoria.

I only started singing very recently.

I'm a drummer and I've drummed before

and I've drummed on a few stages.

However, not singing.

We're a fair way from Castlemaine.

Yeah, we are a fair bit from Castlemaine.

I'm very nervous because I don't know,

it's my first time singing on a big stage,

like a stage, stage and I don't know,

I-I really want to impress you guys.

I really want to impress the coaches

and I want to sing the best I can for everyone.

Well, if you sing like you sing in the shower,

I think you'll be good.

I think the shower is my comfort zone.

You certainly get a lot of practise in the shower.

I will try my absolute best to make sure

that it soothes the ears rather than breaks them.

So, I actually decided to give singing a crack.

I was at music camp with a bunch of my friends

and we were just chilling in the room.

We were just playing band stuff.

Someone came in and they were like, play some music, play some music.

I'll just yap my head off.

They came and they were like, "Oh, my god, this is amazing."

I was like, "Whoa, like,

"this isn't singing in the shower anymore."

Like, "What the hell is happening here?

"It's actually working out."

And then since then, I've just kind of been like,

on my own little journey.

And now I'm here.

# Once in a while You might catch me cleaning... #

I just love to sing and I just love to have fun.

So, I'll make the best out of it every time I do.

I'm just gonna go out there and give it my best shot.

Yeah.

(SINGS) # Oh, here she comes

# Watch out, boys

# She'll chew you up

# Oh, here she comes

# She's a maneater

# She'll only come out at night

# The lean and hungry type

# And nothing is new

# I've seen her here before

# Oh

# What you been waiting

# Oh, she's sitting with you

# But her eyes are on the door... #

Yeah.

(SINGS) # Oh, here she comes

# Watch out, Boys she'll chew you up

# Oh, here she comes, She's a maneater

# Oh, here she comes

# Watch out, boys, She'll chew you up

# Here she comes

# She's a man

# She's a man

# Oh, I wouldn't if I were you

# 'Cause I know I'd say no

# Oh, there she goes

# She's a maneater. #

Oh, my god. (CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

You're real.

How you doing?

Hi. Hi.

Is-is this on?

It's on.

Hello. Hey.

I can't believe I'm actually seeing real versions of you guys.

This is crazy.

So, when you ended the song, you looked a little surprised.

Did you not even realise you'd turned?

No, I was so into it, like everyone was cheering.

It was really nice.

Yeah. Yeah.

I...I...I...I'm not usually like. Yeah they were cheering.

I, I'm very new to singing,

and it's not normal for me to be to be on, like, a stage,

like, nearly this big.

So, like, I was so into it that I was just locked in.

And then when I came off, I was like, "Oh, my god.

What?"

So, hold on. Hold on.

Let's-let's start at the beginning.

What's your name?

Um. My name is Boriss. I'm 18.

I'm from Castlemaine, Victoria.

It's about...

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

It's about two hours out of Melbourne,

so it's like rural near Bendigo.

OK. Oh, Bendigo. Yeah, I've heard Bendigo.

I'm learning my Australia.

It's a big place.

"When you're British, you're like, "Well, this place is pretty huge."

Yeah. It does get like that. Well, good to meet you.

And you said you're pretty new to this.

So, how long have you been singing?

So, first and foremost, I'm a drummer.

Um and I've been doing drumming for a while.

I've never really had a singing lesson.

I played battle of the bands in the local, like, town,

and that's kind of it.

Awesome. Yeah.

And yeah, I only recently started picking up singing this year.

So, yeah, it's kind of crazy. Do you know what?

I think being a drummer, that makes sense

because you've got great timing.

I love...

I can't believe

you've-you've not been singing that long.

It was lovely to turn around and see you so in it.

Thank you so much. I didn't realise how you were.

And you're right, because everyone in this room

was in it.

Thank you.

Thank you, everyone in the room.

Yeah, I-I think...I think I need someone like you on Team Melanie,

so I, you know, just keep that in mind.

That's really good to hear. (CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Thank you so much.

Boriss.

We need more pop stars called Boriss.

Yeah, they're pretty unusual.

There's a-there's a gap in the market.

I'm my own species.

You know, I love that you were so in the flow

that you didn't even notice what was happening in front of you.

I could tell that.

I could tell that you were fully living

and breathing inside that song.

The reason I turned my chair is because I really appreciated

where you took that version.

I think you've got a beautiful voice.

And I was in the moment.

I was with you every step of the way,

and I'd love to explore further

where we can go with this.

Obviously, you're a consummate musician.

You're already a drummer.

I think that comes across. I try.

Yeah, I think you've got something really-really special,

and I'd love to help you.

Thank you so much. Thank you so much.

That's really sweet. Thank you so much.

That's like... it's amazing just.

To even, like, hear that come out of anyone's mouths,

but especially you guys.

Good on you, Boriss. It's just amazing.

I didn't turn because I could hear the nerves.

And I think you're still, to be honest,

I think you're still figuring out your voice.

But have you ever listened to Phil Collins?

Yes, of course. I've listened to Phil Collins.

The way he plays drums and sings is ridiculous, man.

You could be the next, you know?

Absolutely. I would definitely love to try.

You should check it out. Alright. You got two options.

Bases are loaded. You've got Team Kate, Team Mel C.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Come on.

What's it gonna be?

Oh, pressure. Pressure.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

I think you turn first, so I'm gonna have to go team Mel C.

I love Mel C so much.

Yes.

You are so sweet. Thank you so much.

I love. You were great. You were great.

Just because she turned first.

Thank you so much. Yes.

I love the message on your sweater.

You're the best.

Bless you.

That was pretty astounding.

I tried my hardest. Yeah.

You fell in love in the room, though, right?

Yeah.

Lovely. What a lovely kid.

Sweetheart. Yeah, he's adorable.

I want to hang out with him 'cause he's just...

Yeah, yeah. ..got such a sweet personality.

He has a great spirit. Yeah.

What a spirit. Yeah.

If nobody turned, you could tell he'd still be the same.

"Yeah, he'd be like, "This was awesome, I was here."

Yeah, exactly. So beautiful.

Love that. Good on him.

Who have you got here?

Hey, there he is!

I was crying.

Oh, my god. Oh, my goodness.

How good was that? Thank you so much.

Oh, my goodness. Oh, I couldn't not turn.

He was brilliant. It's so-so exciting.

Hey. Nice to meet you. You're alright.

Oh, my goodness. Thank you.

You were great. You were so good.

Could you believe that reaction he got right?

It's so exciting.

You were so fantastic.

That was amazing. That was insane.

The drummer boy inside me is definitely pretty happy.

It's a pretty big achievement, you know.

Going from hidden things to singing things is very different.

That is the most surreal experience ever.

I had the tears.

I had the tears. Look at my makeup.

(LAUGHS)

I hope my makeup stayed nice.

Yes!

I love him. Sweetheart.

He's like, he's my little ray of light.

He's so sweet. He's so sweet.

He's a gorgeous spirit. And that power in his voice.

Yeah. He just kept going, didn't he?

Yeah.

With the right guidance, which you'll give him, of course.

I mean, he's got amazing potential.

He really has.

Well, just bringing his sweetness

and personality into his singing will be a winner

because he, like, he exudes love and openness.

And so, like, if he's got that in his heart,

just get it out of his mouth.

And yeah. He's super musical.

Like you can tell he's-he's a smart musician.

Team Melanie C is so strong.

I'm very excited.

I think I'm gonna go with Melanie C.

Yes.

There's something about being a young artist.

They're so much more accomplished than they know they are.

I want to hear potential.

I want to hear personality and feel like there's charisma

when I turn around.

It's such a wonderful way to find younger artists.

(SINGS) # Hey... #

Still to come...

Wow.

From the crowd to centre stage.

I'm just really overwhelmed.

Alyssa puts it all on the line.

And later, a voice like no other.

This is what you were born to do.

That has to be one of the most incredible performances

we've seen on this stage.

Yeah.

Sparks a coach showdown.

We all want you bad.

Team Ronan is ready for you.

Come on.

I need you on my team.

This is brutal this show.

# This is The Voice. #

# This is The Voice. #

Ah ladies and gentleman are you ready for one more?

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

That was fun.

Can I have your Snapchat?

What'd you say?

Can I have your Snapchat?

Can you have my what?

Snapchat.

Snapchat. You think I'm on Snapchat?

(LAUGHS)

(SONG PLAYS IN BACKGROUND)

Hello. My name is Sybella.

I'm 21 years old

and I'm from the Central Coast.

I was about nine

when I first got into competitive race walking.

It is a bit like what you see on 'Kath and Kim'.

It is like that.

But race walking is an Olympic sport,

a very difficult Olympic sport.

I did lots of singing alongside my race walking.

So, was singing, race walking, singing, race walking.

I wasn't gonna follow both paths forever.

I started realising I love singing so much,

and that's the path I want to go down.

That's what I want to chase that feeling.

The song I'm singing for my blind audition

is 'Take On Me' by A-ha.

I've made this song

my own by kind of bringing it back a little bit.

It's a bit more of a pared back version.

Definitely risky rearranging a song like this,

because it is very well known and very well loved.

If you take a song like this and you don't quite nail it,

people are gonna remember that and not in a great way.

(SONG PLAYS IN BACKGROUND)

OK.

We love you.

Love you too. Lots.

(SINGS) # We're talking away

# I don't know what to say

# I'll say it anyway

# Today is another day To find you shying away

# I'll be coming for your love OK

# Take on me

# Take me on... #

Come on, come on.

(SINGS) # I'll be gone

# In a day or two

# In a day or two

# Oh, no... #

Turn!

(SINGS) # In a day or. #

Oh, no.

Hey there.

Hi. Hi.

Um, I'm Sybella, I'm 21, and I'm from the Central Coast.

Hi, there.

I think we-we all kind of feel the same way,

which is that you have a really lovely tone.

You're a really good singer. I can tell you're a good singer.

I would just offer as a constructive criticism

to be really careful about the song choice.

And I, you know, we all love that song,

but to take a song that's known for that range

and that and showing off that impressive low to high thing

and then kind of keeping it all kind of in here

doesn't show off what you can really do.

So, I think you should always think about what songs

really highlight your strengths.

Thank you so much. Thank you.

I feel like this is such a tough stage.

This is such a pressure cooker

and that song requires such breath control.

I mean, the range of the chorus is insane

and...and...and almost impossible for a woman

because a man can flip into falsetto,

which is cheating, obviously.

Oh, of course. Always. That's what we do. Yeah.

But I feel like with that song,

we really wanted the payoff of that...

# In a day or two... #

And we sort of missed that with your melodic choices.

Like, they were nice, they were tasteful,

but maybe you overdid it with the seasoning.

And, you know, we just wanted a bit more meat and potatoes.

Yeah, for sure.

But look, you're-you're a beautiful singer.

And keep going. Thank you.

Thank you so much. Thank you.

Aw, baby, you were so good. Oh, thank you so much.

That was amazing. You were beautiful.

Oh. Thank you. I had lots of fun.

Aw, that's the main thing.

I love you, darling. You're amazing.

You got perfect pitch, right, Richard?

Do you? No.

Oh, I thought someone told me you did.

No. I thought you were looking at me.

Then I was like huh?

No, my-my father did.

And one of my sons does.

And they say that it skips a generation,

so I'm a little pissed.

Oh, my god. Are you OK?

Yeah. Oh, my god.

What are you singing? Oh, my god.

I don't know. I don't know.

You don't know what you're singing. No.

Oh, my god.

I cannot believe I'm about to do this.

I was just in the audience. Like, what the hell?

Like, this is crazy.

Are you nervous? Yes, I'm very nervous.

They loved you out there when you were singing everyone,

even the-the crew and everything whipped their head over to you.

Yeah. Like. Yeah. You're smashed. It was crazy.

Oh, my god.

So, these are the artists.

They've had time to prepare their songs.

You know, control their nerves.

Well, I don't have any of that time.

I don't know. I can't even explain it.

Like, a bit freaked out.

I'm about to go out there

and perform for four superstar coaches.

I'm really scared, I feel.

Eugh.

# This is The Voice. #

My name is Justin Rynne,

and my job is to bring the party.

# Take the stress away

# 'Cause we about To put on a show... #

Most important thing to do as a DJ is have fun.

Absolutely. There's no two ways about that.

# Move your body and soul... #

If you're having fun as a DJ.

The audience is gonna have fun.

People just kind of let loose.

They forget their lives for a few hours

and they just enjoy it, and I-I love being a part of that.

I love my DJing,

but you're doing someone else's music.

I think it's time for me to find my sound

and explore myself as an artist.

The song I am singing for my blind audition is

'Canned Heat' by Jamiroquai.

It's an upbeat dance hit.

I think it's just gonna be a lot of fun.

My biggest concern with this song is I feed off audience energy

and engagement when I perform, but the coaches aren't facing me.

So, that's gonna be really tough.

I got to trust

that I can deliver a good performance.

I need more people on my team.

I need this to be good. Artist walk in.

This could be for you.

Could be for me though.

Probably not.

You still have that button, remember?

I've still got this button. Watch yourself.

I'm gonna touch your button in a minute.

Don't you dare touch that button.

(SINGS) # You know,

# This book is for real

# I used to put My faith in worship

# But then my chance To get to heaven slipped

# I used to worry about the future

# But then I threw My caution to the wind

# I had no reason To be care free, no, no, no

# Until I took a trip To the other side of town

# You know I heard that Boogie rhythm

# Hey, I had no choice But to get down, down, down, down

# Dance, nothing left for me to do But dance

# Off these bad times I'm going through just dance

# Hey

# Got canned heat In my heals tonight, baby

# Ooh, I feel the thunder, See the lightning

# I know this anger's heaven sent

# I don't know what to do But then that's nothing new

# Stuck between hell and high water I need a cure to make it through

# Hey, dance, Nothing left for me to do but dance

# Off these bad times I'm going through just dance

# Hey, got canned heat In my heals tonight, baby

# Whaaaaa. #

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Oh, I'm the only one. Amazing.

That was fun.

I didn't see it, but it sounded fun.

You should have turned,

you should have seen the whole thing.

I realise that now.

What's your name?

My name is Justin.

I'm from Sydney, I'm 28 years old.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Hey, Justin.

I was so close to turning.

I thought it was a great song choice.

I do have quite similar artists in my team already.

So chill. And.

But I think the one thing that maybe held me back.

I mean, you're a cool looking guy, right?

I'd just watch it doesn't get to cabaret.

Yeah, yeah. Fair. You know?

But other than that, what a great performance.

Thank you. Thanks. Thanks. Cheers.

You entertained everybody.

You should be really-really proud of the performance you gav

because you entertained a whole room full of peopl

with that performance.

It is The Voice.

And for me that was a little karaoke-ish.

It wasn't like an artist

vocal performance and that's really what I'm after.

But I bet you have that in you.

It was just that song choice.

So, I think you'll do really well with Kate.

Thank you. That was so cool.

I turned around because I just could not miss another dancer.

I need someone with that physicality on my team.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

I'm a child of the '90s.

Jamiroquai was so massive for me.

That vocal performance was not perfect,

but it had this incredible fizzing energy

the whole way through.

The audience were going insane. Thanks, Kate.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Welcome to Team Kate.

You're very kind. Thank you.

Justin, welcome to The Voice.

You're on team Kate. Good on you, mate.

Yeah. Thank you.

Yay.

Nice to meet you. Congratulations.

Great to meet you, too.

Well done. Excellent. Thank you, thanks so much, cheers.

You're right, I agree.

I think he was trying to be JK rather than trying to be Justin.

I'm just like, I give me another great singer, please.

That's what I'm here for.

I don't care about dancing or anything.

I want singers. Yep.

Yep, yep.

Your team so far, it's really classy.

Yeah.

You know, you've really got people that are right for you.

And that pair up really well together.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I think you need some stuff that isn't so classy

and you need some trashy shit.

But I'll provide that.

Whoo! Congratulations.

Thanks, mum. Congratulations.

Oh, you too. You must be so proud. Very proud.

Having fun through this process is the main thing.

Because it can be so nerve wracking.

And you can get in your own head, I think.

Justin, you're gonna be sweet.

Cheers. Thank you. You're very kind.

So lovely to meet you all. Yeah, you too.

Nice to meet you. See you soon. Bye.

I could not be more thrilled with my team.

They're all so different.

It's gonna be Kate.

Me? Oh, my god.

Yes. I've got big voices.

Interesting, cool voices,

hidden gems who don't even know how good they are yet.

He's incredible.

It's so eclectic and exciting.

You're on Team Kate.

I want to take the crown this year with every fibre of my being.

And I feel so protective of my artists.

I believe I have the winner on Team Kate.

Coming up.

Laughter is her job, but singing's her dream.

This is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Will this artist have what it takes to turn a chair?

# This is The Voice. #

# This is The Voice. #

Hi, my name is Tayla Paula.

I am 23 and I am a clown.

Surprise!

It's actually like the best job ever.

Like, who gets to say that

you get to go to work and be a clown?

Like what? That's so random.

Being a clown is like being yourself.

But to the extreme, all the weird, funny,

quirky parts of myself I get to put out into the world

and like, people don't get, like, weirded out by it

because they're like, oh, yeah, clown makes sense.

I've grown up singing my entire life.

I'd always sing and perform and in front of my family

when I was a kid, and that's when I was like, yeah,

this is my happy place.

Like, I need to do this.

The fact that I'm about to sing to four

international superstars is insane.

Are you kidding me?

I hope the coaches can see that I am a serious artist,

and this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

(SINGS) # I feel like

# I'm a genie in a bottle, baby

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Ah.

Hi. Hi.

There was some moments in the performance that were gold.

Absolutely gorgeous. I looked over at Mel.

At one moment, both of us caught each other.

There was a moment was like, oh yeah.

And it was just coming to the end of the performance.

And it was like, oh, maybe that's just that's all.

That's all we got.

Yeah, it was just there wasn't enough.

There was some moments, but there wasn't enough.

Thank you.

Interesting song choice.

I don't think it was the best song to display your voice, necessarily.

You have a wide range. You've got a really good voice.

You've got power.

And I think that what you should lean into is figuring out

what music makes you into an artist,

because that's what's gonna set you apart in a...in a show like this,

you have to set yourself apart.

But really, really great job and keep singing.

Thank you.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

See ya.

Oh, bless her.

It wasn't what I was hoping for.

But you always have to get no's.

Like no's are an inevitable part of the industry.

So, it's alright.

There's always next year. There's always the year after that.

It's OK.

I know what it feels like to give everything over to music

and devote your whole life to it, and dream of that moment

when you can finally make it a career.

As a performer.

It's such a drive.

You're compelled to do these terrifying things

and you have to face rejection.

It's a real part of being a performer,

so I know exactly how the artists feel.

Coming here on The Voice, it's a petrifying step

that you have no choice but to take.

(SINGS) # You will not believe your eyes

# If ten million fireflies lit up

# The world as I fell asleep... #

Let's go!

(SINGS) # I like to make myself believe

# That planet Earth turns

# Slowly

# It's hard to say That I'd rather stay

# Awake when I'm asleep

# Hey. #

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

I felt as though you didn't fully commit to that song.

And if you don't commit as the singer,

we can't commit as the listener.

And it was lovely.

And you've got this beautiful, sweet tone, you know.

My ears loved it, but I didn't feel it.

The reality is, you're awesome. That was a great performance.

You're just not ready yet.

You've got what it takes.

It's just not ready. It's-it's early stages.

It's simmering.

It's. Yeah. You get, you're gonna get there.

You need more experience.

You need more performances under your belt

and you'll get there.

That was great today man. Well done.

Thank you so much for coming today.

Thank you very much guys. Thank you.

Tough moments in my career has shaped me.

You learn from the mistakes. You don't learn from the triumphs.

Definitely.

Every artist walks on the voice stage.

They've got their dreams on the line.

So, saying no is never easy.

(SINGS) # No matter how hard I try

# You keep pushing me aside

# And I can't break through

# There's no talking to you

# Do you believe in life after love?

# I could feel something Inside me say

# I really don't think You're strong enough now

# And I know that I'll get through this

# 'Cause I know that I am strong

# I don't need you anymore

# I don't need you anymore. #

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Tell us your name.

My name is Olivia Mae. I'm a registered nurse.

Oh, good for you. I work in the operating theatre.

That's awesome.

I think you have a nice voice.

I was, like, waiting for something exciting to happen.

And so maybe just thinking forward,

you know, choose songs

where you can really just deliver the goods.

Oh, thank you so much.

But-but thank you for being here.

No, thank you so much.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE) I so appreciate your time.

I just thought I'll give it a crack before we do nursing full time and.

Yeah. Gonna what?

You're gonna walk away from music?

No I just... I don't know.

Please don't stop.

I mean... Thank you.

You know, just because you didn't get any turn,

you know, here doesn't mean you're not good enough.

It's just you're not ready really, right now.

That's what it is.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

I was told no many more times than I was told yes.

And luckily, I never gave up on myself.

The first three years

I was in LA trying to get a record deal,

every single label rejected me multiple times.

I had a couple of record executives tell me that I had no chance

in hell of ever getting a record deal,

that my music was awful, that my singing was terrible.

But I decided they were bullshit. So, I kept going.

I was rejected on the basis of songs like 'Endless Summer Nights

and 'Should've Known Better', which became top five singles,

which became songs that still get played on the radio,

that still make me money 35, 37 years later.

So, if you're pursuing something

and the answer you get is no, maybe just take it as not yet.

No, doesn't necessarily mean no. Sometimes no just means not yet.

Next...

Artist walk in.

She came to watch.

Now, she's centre stage.

To think I was in the audience.

And now I'm actually about to sing in front of four superstar coaches.

I've had only a couple hours to prepare.

But is she ready for the spotlight?

# This is The Voice. #

# This is The Voice. #

Alright, here we go. Getting set for our next artist.

The nerves that it must take for them to be out there right now.

Come and sing in front of a room full of strangers

and some absolute music superstars, right?

Must be mind blowing. So, let's be on their team.

Let's give them heaps of encouragement.

I am very scared to think I was in the audience

and now I'm actually backstage.

About to go on stage

is actually really crazy.

I love music, but I have really bad anxiety.

I do really struggle with getting up

and performing in front of other people.

It has been a struggle since I was a kid,

but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I'm about to walk out on stage

like I'm actually freaking out at the moment.

Artist walk in.

I've had only a couple hours to prepare.

I'm just really overwhelmed.

I can't control the shakiness of my hands.

My heart is pounding.

I'm just praying

that I am able to turn at least one chair.

(EXHALES)

(SINGS) # Something's got a hold

# Of me lately

# No, I don't know

# Myself anymore... #

Whoa.

(SINGS) # Feels like the walls

# Are all closing in

# And the devil's Knocking at my door

# Out of my mind

# How many times

# Did I tell you

# I'm no good at being alone

# Yeah, it's taking a toll on me

# Try my best to keep From tearing the skin off my bones

# Don't you know

# I lose control

# When you're not next to me

# Yeah, I'm fallin' apart right In front of you, can't you see?

# I lose control

# When you're not next to me

# Yeah, you're breakin' My heart, baby

# You make a mess of me

# I lose control

# When you're not here with me

# Yeah, I'm falling apart, baby

# You made a mess of me. #

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Hello.

OK, hang on a minute.

Holy sh... sorry. Can't say that word.

Holy shhh.

Were you the girl that was singing in the audience?

Oh, my god. Yep.

OK, that is nuts.

No way.

That is absolutely nuts. And look at that.

You got a four chair turn, for Christ's sake.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

How are you feeling?

Very overwhelmed, but very excited.

I bet.

That those are the vocals that give me chills.

You know, that was really spectacular.

So, musical, so full of emotion.

I believed you the whole way through.

And I believed that you truly belong on Team Kate.

I need you on my team.

Please, I'm begging you. Please.

I know that these coaches are...

They're all gonna give their own amazing pitches.

And, you know, you might be persuaded,

but just try to not listen when they speak.

OK.

Alyssa.

Hello?

How old are you? Where are you from?

I'm 19. I'm from Sydney.

19. Wow.

19. To have a voice like that at 19.

And how much singing have you done publicly?

Um I don't really sing out in public anywhere.

You don't sing publicly?

I've sung in front of an audience.

But definitely none like this before.

Alyssa, it's only the beginning.

Whatever happens, this is what you are born to do.

This is who you are.

Stage is ready for you.

The Voice is ready for you.

And Team Ronan is ready for you. Come here.

(APPLAUSE)

Hi, Alyssa. Hi.

First of all, congratulations on

one of the greatest performances we've seen.

Thank you.

You have such a big voice

and a powerful voice and a soulful voice.

And I think that what you need to take this to the end

is a coach who has the experience of working with singers like you.

And I have had the honour of working with Luther Vandross,

Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban and Justin Timberlake

and kind of across the board.

And I feel like my experience

would be the key to you winning this thing.

And I really, really would love for you to be on Team Richard.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

Alyssa, you have blown my mind.

That has to be

one of the most incredible performances

we've seen on this stage.

Yeah.

I have to think, Alyssa, what I can offer to you.

You know, sometimes it is difficult to compete with.

These coaches are incredible, right? I'm not a producer

You know, I haven't worked with many, many voices,

but I am a singer.

And when I started with the Spice Girls,

I think I was 20.

And what I can offer to you

is that experience of not really knowing

what this world is to being thrust into it really quickly.

You know, I can help you navigate that.

And also together we can work out how we look after that voice,

you know, because that gift you have is precious.

And without a doubt, we all want you bad.

And I want to be the person who gets you to the final.

So, Alyssa, the choice is yours.

You got us all. Kate, Kate!

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

I think...

I just I would just like to point out,

you know, before you-you make this tough decision

that it was actually me that noticed Alyssa's voice

and-and pointed it out to the producers.

So, I don't think she'd actually be here.

You're closest. You were over there.

You're there, closest.

She wouldn't be here if not for me.

That's nonsense.

Join team Melanie C, please.

I would really-really love to work with you

and find the perfect songs for you.

Come on.

Whoa!

# This is The Voice. #

So, Alyssa, the choice is yours.

You got us all. Kate, Kate.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

I think.

I just I would just like to point out,

you know, before you-you make this tough decision that

it was actually me that noticed Alyssa's voice

and-and pointed it out to the producers

so, she wouldn't be here if not for me.

That's nonsense.

Join team Melanie C, please.

I would really, really love to work with you

and find the perfect songs for you.

Come on.

Whoa!

Whoa.

What?

Dude. I'm sorry.

Sorry. I wanted you so bad.

You're on Team Ronan. Yeah!

Oh.

Welcome to the team.

You alright?

Incredible. What a performance.

It was amazing.

She's...

She's amazing. She's amazing.

Wow. She could win it. She could win it.

Yeah.

Hey, hey.

How are you?

We're so proud of you. What a performance.

Oh, my god, she's amazing.

She's incredible. She's incredible. I mean, Oh, my god.

I mean, look, I use my ultimate block.

Give her a hug. She's emotional. Bless her.

That was amazing.

How do you feel?

The adrenaline. Oh.

Bless you. Bless you. Yeah.

Well, I mean. It was amazing.

You can relax now. You were sensational.

Honestly, it's the best performance we've had on The Voice.

OK.

Amazing. It is incredible.

I feel very lucky to have you on my team.

And we're gonna go a long way, all the way to the finals.

Yeah, I'm so excited. It's gonna be an incredible journey.

What a story. From the audience to the final.

Yeah. It's gonna be ridiculous.

Meant to be. Hey, you.

Well done. Welcome to the team.

Thank you. Thank you. See you guys.

Thanks. Thank you.

See ya.

Oh! My baby.

You smashed it.

I actually can't believe what just happened.

Like, I'm really proud of myself that I was able to do this.

Sorry.

Sorry. I'm crying so much.

I actually can't believe

I just went on stage to audition for The Voice.

Like, that's crazy.

It's just my head is spinning right now.

Like, I can't wrap my head around it.

Group hug. Group hug. Oh, yeah.

You absolutely smashed it. Yeah.

I'm so proud of you, my darling.

Thank you. Yep.

This is brutal this show.

I was just blocked again.

I mean, we all were by Ronan

on one of the greatest singers

that we've heard on this stage ever.

I discovered her in the audience singing.

None of this would have happened if-if I hadn't have done that.

It's, you know, it's...

I don't think travesty is too much of a word.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

The bad guy's back.

Did you notice that lacklustre applause.

I know, oh, don't, don't.

They should have booed.

I mean, that was incredible. What a moment.

From the audience...

to that stage to that performance.

And then the battle between the coaches.

That was ridiculous. What a moment, and I win.

I mean, look, I use my ultimate block,

but I still win.

Ronan bet it, he. He can just wait.

I mean, I can... I'm capable of holding

a grudge for a very long time.

She's getting. She's getting upset with me.

She's getting emosh.

Totes emosh.
