=The Journey of Legend=

=Episode 31=

Look, half of this paper has been torn off.

I guess Mr. Deng wanted to leave something for you.

Did my father intend to write something?

Earlier, I noticed he hid something about Herbal Valley.

But no matter how I pressed him, he refused to tell me.

Maybe he changed his mind and wanted to reveal the truth.

Liu Suifeng.

If he killed Mr. Deng,

I'll avenge your father no matter where he flees.

Qiushui, are you saying we can't confirm he is the killer?

My father had no other enemies.

Except for the Power Gang and Liu Suifeng,

nobody would do such monstrous thing.

Yulan, think carefully. Was there anything else unusual?

Second watch, Hai hour.

Liu Suifeng.

Last night, when I came to see my father in the study, I saw Liu Suifeng leaving.

Wait, no. I came to see father during the third watch at Zi hour.

Could you be mistaken?

No. It was the second watch.

Then there must have been another visitor.

(Tang Sect)

How long has your father been unconscious?

He'd stay lucid for hours before, but now sleeps constantly.

In his current state, he won't last half a month.

Though I know a secret treatment, it has a 50 percent failure rate.

If it fails, he might not survive seven days.

Consider carefully whether to attempt it.

Move! Let me in! Out of my way!

What's up?

Since Medicine King is here, the matriarch gives the restorative soup

for his treatment. Now step aside.

Thanks for her concern.

But Medicine King merely came to exchange skills with my father.

We don't need this restorative soup.

Who'd dare use the matriarch to poison? You don't have to be wary of me.

Miss, this is a misunderstanding.

Master Tang is healthy. Common tonics are good for him.

But the restorative soup is too strong. It's not necessary.

Fine.

The matriarch is worried about Master Tang since he rarely comes out.

She said if he can't lead the Tang Sect, a successor must be chosen.

But I assured her Master Tang is merely occupied.

He'll surely appear at the mid-month assembly, right?

Of course. Now leave.

I have to choose.

Medicine King, please attempt treatment for my father.

Okay. I'll prepare.

Yuhan, there's something in Mr. Deng's mouth.

(Iron-clad)

Iron-clad? The Ironclad Constable?

Ironclad Constable was righteous and my father's close friend.

When Sword Retreat was besieged, he risked his life helping us.

Could he be alive? Let's find him for answers!

After Sword Retreat fell, his body wasn't found.

Some charred remains couldn't be identified.

Everyone assumed he had already died.

With so many present, why was his body the only one missing?

My father concealed things about Herbal Valley.

But how does this connect to the Ironclad Constable?

I'm not certain yet, but I'm sure

someone's obstructing our investigation of the Marrow-Shattering Finger.

Yuhan, if I hadn't pursued this,

Mr. Deng might still be alive.

I'm sorry.

This isn't your fault.

We must avenge Sword Retreat and Hailin Sect!

If we don't capture the murderer,

our families won't be his last victims.

Don't worry, Qiushui.

I won't wallow in grief or yield to the murderer.

We must cut out the cancer.

After the funeral for them, I'll join your hunt.

Can you handle this alone, Yuhan?

My only thought is to make the killer pay.

Alright. I'll find the killer without fail.

Take care, Qiushui.

(Deng Qingfeng)

(Deng Qingfeng)

Father. Father!

Father!

I've failed. I'm sorry.

I know your mastery of medicine and poisons.

You treat patients in an unconventional way.

Please, find another way to save my father!

Rise. You don't have to do this.

There is one other method.

But this is far too dangerous for you.

For me?

Whatever it takes, I'll give it a try.

It's basically fighting fire with fire.

You'll take my poison, then transfer it

to your father via your internal energy.

The two toxins will combat each other. This might help your father survive.

But one misstep, and not only will your father perish,

but you'll likely lose your own life too.

Please tell me how to do it.

No matter what, I must save my father.

Then I'll teach you how.

Father!

Fang.

I'm sorry about all this.

I'll do anything as long as you recover.

Who on earth slaughtered the Dengs?

Still unknown, but Qiushui is investigating.

I'm certain he'll uncover the truth.

When we find the killer, we'll avenge Yuhan's family!

Where is Yuhan now?

He is observing mourning at home, but I've written to him.

If he needs us, we'll come immediately.

Then we'll gather intelligence in the martial world.

- Agreed. - Let's go.

I heard of a woman treating disaster victims.

That must be you.

I'm just doing what I can do.

Kaiyan, what brings you here so late?

No word from Yiren lately. His situation worries me.

How could Yiren collude with the enemy, betraying the country?

I also asked around, but found nothing about him.

I wanted to find him and demand answers.

But I'm also worried about you.

You don't have to. I'm fine.

How could I not worry?

If anything happens to you, our parents will blame me for not protecting you.

When they brought you home, I swore to treat you as my sister.

Sometimes, not just as a sister.

Kaiyan, why do you suddenly say this?

I know you once adored Yiren.

I always see him as my brother.

You're my brother too.

I know he broke your heart that day.

Let's not dwell on the past.

I'm part of the Xiao family. Protecting our family is my duty.

Now the four of us are all the family we have.

Regardless, you'll always be my brother.

They say the traitor fled here.

I'll capture him on sight!

Xiao Yiren actually colluded with the North Wasteland. Shame!

(Who was that cloaked man? Why framed me so?)

(I must uncover his identity to clear my name.)

Xiaoyi?

Yiren.

How did you find me?

I tracked you through towns. Finally found you.

Come back with me and we can make it all clear.

No! I won't return until I find the man that set me up.

Please stay.

I finally found you.

If you leave now, I might never see you again.

Why seek me now?

I'm not the man you knew.

The whole martial world brands me a traitor.

I'm now like a notorious rat in the street, despised by all.

I don't care!

Whatever happened, others' words mean nothing.

I only believe in you.

- Come! - What if we encounter him?

(Tea) The martial world is messy.

Even the reclusive Dengs were massacred by the Power Gang.

Food's ready!

Did you hear of the Fei family, one of Three Mystic Sects?

Master Fei just announced his retirement in three days.

- Retirement? - Indeed.

(It means he will stay out of the martial world.)

(Any secrets die with him. Must find him faster.)

(Medicine)

Take your medicine.

The treasures from Nantiandang have all been inventoried.

As you ordered, 90 percent has been spent on provisions and winter clothing.

Ten percent has been allocated to the sects and families of fallen men.

All items are loaded onto the ships. You can set sail tomorrow.

Good. I'll depart for the capital tomorrow.

I don't want you to go.

Rong, you're acting childish again.

Every time you return from the palace, your health deteriorates further.

Don't think I'm unaware of what happened.

He wants to control you and torment you slowly.

But to achieve our goals, I can endure it.

When will this all be over?

Since you understand, Rong,

why won't you let me finish what I must do?

He'll only rest easy once he obtains what he desires.

But he is suspicious and paranoid.

Though you consider his interests, he still distrusts you.

Even so, what does it matter?

I'm doing it all for one goal.

I only hope the nation can prosper and people live in peace.

But don't you care about your own life?

This journey to the capital is perilous.

Let me accompany you.

As long as the court needs me,

they'll keep me alive. Don't worry.

I promise, Rong.

I'll return safely.

Take your medicine.

(Fei Residence)

For the coming-of-age ceremony? May I see your invitation?

Liang Dou, Devourer of Crimson Clouds, asked me to send a letter to Master Fei.

(To Fei Yuqiao) Please inform him.

One moment, sir.

You can't enter without an invitation.

(Let's see what you're up to now.)

(Virtue and Enlightenment)

(To Fei Yuqiao)

Thank you for delivering this, Mr. Xiao. I'm aware of what Lord Liang wants.

You've come from so far. Just stay here for a few days.

Thank you. I have another request to make.

Speak. If it's within my power

(Fei Yuqiao) and doesn't violate ethics, I'll help.

Have you ever practiced a technique called Marrow-Shattering Finger?

So you're also here for that technique.

This harmful technique should have been eradicated long ago.

I cannot teach it to you.

You got me wrong. I don't want to learn it.

I only ask you to demonstrate it, to confirm my parents' cause of death.

Your parents?

They were Xiao Xilou and Sun Huishan.

I am Xiao Qiushui.

I heard you're friends with Deng Qingfeng's son, Deng Yuhan.

Did you slaughter his family to investigate Marrow-Shattering Finger?

No, I would never.

Deng Yuhan is my sworn brother. How could I harm his kin?

Someone must be framing me.

Your suspicion plays right into the schemer's hands.

How can I trust you?

You don't have to trust me.

If I were treacherous,

why would Liang Dou entrust this letter to me?

A fair point.

Liang Dou is powerful. I don't think you can steal this letter from him?

Well, tomorrow is my grandson's big day and my retirement day.

I hope everything will go well.

After tomorrow's affairs, I'll demonstrate it for you.

Thank you.

Search secretly while they're gathered at the ancestral hall.

I doubt the Thousand Faces was destroyed.

- Yes. - Yes.

- Master Fei. - Master Fei.

Today marks my grandson's coming-of-age

and my retirement from the martial world.

Henceforth, my descendants shall pursue commerce or scholarship

and shall not enter the martial world.

Shall not enter the martial world?

They're leaving the martial world?

Chengqing hates martial arts, favoring practical studies.

He is ideal to lead my family.

You guys have close ties with us

with certain favors and grievances.

I hope we can wipe out everything.

This isn't over!

No way!

That's it?

He is really retiring.

Indeed.

What a pity.

Vultures gather as the giant collapses.

Master Fei, your son Fei Danfeng severed my brother's arm.

If you want to erase grievances, compensate us with rare techniques!

- Exactly! - That's right!

Hand over Thousand Faces now!

- Hand it over! - Hand it over!

- Now! - Hand it over!

Grandfather, what should we do?

Since you all seek Thousand Faces, I'll reveal its location.

Five years ago, Danfeng took it on imperial orders,

only to be assassinated. His body remains missing.

The Thousand Faces was burned, that night, leaving only scraps.

- I buried it in our ancestral tomb. - You...

- What? - Impossible!

Lies!

Exactly!

It has to be handed over. How could it have been burned?

To prevent getting my family into trouble again,

I made an oath then

that whoever learns the Thousand Faces technique

shall lose their martial arts and be exiled!

Impossible!

He actually destroyed it?

How could you lie in front of the crowd?

Surrender Thousand Faces, and we won't give you a hard time.

You two traitors broke family rules!

(Fei Xingan, Fei Baobei) You stole the Thousand Faces technique!

I expelled you long ago. How dare you show up again!

Had you taught us earlier, we wouldn't have needed to kill so many!

How many times must I say it? It's not in my possession!

Both of you, get out now!

Unbelievable!

Seems you violate your retirement oath!

Then destroy the item in public.

- Exactly! - Hand it over!

- Give it now! - Give it now!

- Show it! - Give it up!

- Show it! - He's definitely hiding it!

Enough!

I've retired from the martial world. Why still harass me?

Fine! Today I'll break retirement codes

for a fight to the death!

Alright. Bring it on!

What?

Grandfather!

(Struggling against two juniors. It seems...)

- It's him. - Xiao Qiushui?

- Yes! - Why is he here?

- Why did he come? - What's happening?

As an outsider, why do you meddle in my family business?

I detest bullies targeting elders and children.

I must intervene in this!

Xiao Qiushui, mind your own business!

Your brother colludes with the North Wasteland.

As a traitor's kin, how dare you meddle in Daxi's affairs!

Nonsense!

You massacred the Deng family, yet dare to cause trouble here?

There are many of us.

If you fight, you'll regret it!

- True! - Absolutely right!

- We'll make you pay! - True!

- Exactly! - Exactly!

- Move aside! - Move aside!

- Step aside! - Get lost!

- Move! - Move!

I need answers from Master Fei, so I must protect him.

Listen, we make a bet.

If you win, I'll stay out of it.

And if we refuse?

Then we gamble with lives!

What do you bet?

If anyone here withdraws the sword from the stone,

I'll stay out of the Fei family affairs.

If you fail, you'll stop harassing the Feis.

You two will give the antidote to Master Fei.

Brother, don't agree!

His internal energy is formidable. This is trickery!

Just one bet. Let's attempt it.

Alright, deal!

Whoever breaks the promise will be doomed.

One of them

masters the Qingtian Palm, with immense strength.

The other masters the Transmutation, effortlessly lifting weights.

What if they succeed?

Impossible.

You didn't forbid joint effort, Xiao Qiushui.

I said pulling the sword out of the stone.

Look, it's still in the stone.

- Exactly! - The stone remains attached!

The smaller it is, the harder it is to break.

Given your internal energy, you can't do it.

Are you giving it up?

Yes.

Antidote.

Grandfather!

The wager stands. Don't harass the Feis again!

All of you, please leave.

- We came for nothing. - Let's go.

We came for nothing.

We've pressured him, yet he still refused to surrender.

I guess the Thousand Faces is gone. Let's leave.

Master! Master!

The ancestral tomb was just destroyed.
