- Previously, on "The Bold Type"...

- I'm rolling out my spring line soon.

Now, as part of that fashion show, this class

is gonna do a little pre-show. Want to jumpstart your career?

That's where you can do it. - Adena, hi.

- Kat, hi. - This is Tia,

my campaign manager. - Nice to meet you.

- Adena talked Jane. She said that what happened

in Paris was a mistake.

I don't think she's over you, Kat.

- We're doing it. - The Pamela Dolan story?

- Doing this piece is gonna put Jacqueline back on top

where she belongs. - We are gonna bring Pamela

in here and get a statement. - Here we go.

- Yes, here we go.

[funky pop music]

[message program ringing]

- Hi. - Hey, babe.

- [laughs] What a nice surprise.

What are you doing? - I just finished

this, uh, reading, and I thought I would

check in with you before my book party tonight.

- I am just going over my notes

for this Pamela Dolan interview.

- Whoa, wait, is that-- - Tomorrow.

She's coming into the office to meet with me and Jacqueline.

It all comes down to this. - Did I ever tell you

that Pamela once stole my cab outside this

perfume launch party?

Yeah, when I tried to say something,

she, like, went ballistic. Nearly ripped my head off.

It was genuinely frightening.

- Is this anecdote supposed to be helping right now?

- Uh, sorry. [chuckles]

Just make sure you're ready. - We are ready

for personal threats, legal threats...

[phone chimes] Bomb threats.

- Sorry, I, uh--

I just found out I'm gonna be on NPR tomorrow.

- What? Seriously? - Apparently their booker

thinks that I'm the next Jay McInerney.

- And you did it without the coke.

Cheers. - Thank you.

I'm really happy for you. - And here come

my talking points from my publicist.

Uh, I should prep for this.

I don't want to sound like an idiot

in front of the National Tote Bag Brigade.

- Go.

I have to go over this anyway.

- You want to, uh, give me a little send-off

before I go? - Goodbye.

I'm really sorry, Kat. - It's not all on you.

I made a lot of mistakes.

The whole "open relationship" thing and--

Yes? Good.

Now, of course, you're free to use this space for fittings.

And, um, finally--and not that you need reminding,

a gallery opening, or is this just part of a ruse

for her to be in the same city as you?

God, she really broke my heart.

But I gave her a pep-talk, and I convinced her

to go back to school. - That's really sweet.

I know how busy you are. - I just can't imagine

what it's like for her, scrolling through Instagram

and seeing all those models drinking detox tea.

- What? - I just got an idea.

[peppy pop music]

[overlapping chatter]

- Hello. - Hey, how are you?

- I'm good, how are you? - Good.

- Very good. We're just gonna finish

setting up. We'll be with you soon.

- Okay. - See you in a bit.

- Bye.

- Hello. both: Hi.

- So I have something for you. - Oh.

- Hold out your wrist. - Okay.

- Bam! - [squeals]

- Whoa! - I handed out those bad boys

when I ran for Class Treasurer senior year.

- Oh. - It was a landslide victory.

I thought I'd pass it on. - It's very retro.

- Yes. - Still smells like Hollister.

- [laughs] - That was my signature scent.

- Hey, um, I'm just confused, though, 'cause I'm wondering

where the ballot measure is for Beyoncé's birthday

being a national holiday. - Oh, that comes after I win.

- You've got my vote. - Mm-hmm.

- Also, um, how was last night with Adena?

- It's probably not the best time.

- Right, right, right.

But do you think that-- - Ready?

- Yeah. - Let's do it.

- Okay, I'll see you guys at the party.

both: Mm-hmm. - Okay, bye.

Hey, Cole.

[upbeat music]

- Why are you giving this to me?

- We were scooped. - Oh.

- Dolan has a competing story running on Monday,

so we need this out there immediately.

It's already been fact-checked and vetted by legal.

I will have art send over the images from our photo shoot

ASAP, and loop in social to make sure

that the rollout is wide. - Okay, I'll, uh, get PR

to coordinate media and TV requests.

You guys did truly amazing work.

I am honored to be publishing this.

- Wow. - He's gonna take this

and run with it, isn't he?

- We're doing the right thing, Jane.

[tense music]

- I know.

[rousing pop music playing over speakers]

- You guys look great. I'm gonna be right back.

- Okay. - Sounds good.

- Hey, have you seen Jane? - Uh, I think

she's at the bar. - All right, thanks.

Hey. - Hey.

- Any word from Ryan? - Actually, I was just checking

to see if the Dolan story was up, but no.

- Oh, hey. both: Hey.

- Oh, well if it isn't the Councilwoman Elect.

- It me. - How you feeling?

- I feel good, you know?

Polls closed 20 minutes ago, I did everything I could,

so I need a drink.

- Or two. - Well, maybe save

the second one for after the speech.

Actually, you can have as many as you want after the speech.

You've definitely earned it. - [laughs]

- Oh, sorry, be right back. - Okay.

- Okay, spill it. - I don't--I don't know.

Tia's amazing. I mean, look around.

I'm here because of her.

But I am also here because of Adena.

I just can't get her out of my head.

And she might swing by later. - Does Tia know?

- Yeah, it's not a big deal. - Oh.

You guys, it's posted. - [gasps]

- The story is up. - So proud of you.

- Yeah.

Oh. - Yeah, it's--

it's still a little weird to not see it in "Scarlet,"

but I'm just really happy that it's out there.

- Well, I know it's not the way you imagined it

but it's still pretty amazing. - Yeah.

- Yeah. - Anyways, tonight

is your night. - Ugh, no.

It's our night. - [laughs]

- And before my life maybe changes forever

I just want to say thank you.

- Well, your life may change, but this won't.

- Your clothing will continue to get worse, though.

Occupational hazard. - [laughs]

Hey, speaking of clothing... - Yeah?

- How do you guys feel about walking in my fashion show?

- I thought you were getting professional models?

- That was the plan, but then after everything

with Carly, I--I don't know.

It just didn't feel right. I don't want to make clothing

that only fits models. I want to make clothing

that fits everybody. - Well, in that case, I'm down.

- Yeah, I'm also down. - Yay!

- Should we get that one drink? both: Mm-hmm.

- Let's do it.

- Oh, my God.

Ryan's here. - [gasps]

That's why he was MIA. He wanted to surprise you.

- I'll take it.

Oh, my God, hi. - Hi.

- I can't believe this. What a surprise.

- Yeah, well, Princeton's not that far away.

- [laughs]

- I saw that your article was up.

I'm really proud of you. - Thanks.

But come on, we'll talk work later.

Tonight we're celebrating Kat.

I'm really happy you're here.

- Well, if it isn't my two favorite men

side-by-side. - Oh.

Well, I won't make you rank us. - [laughs]

- I was just telling your boyfriend

what a lifesaver you are. - [gasps]

Oh, she's amazing.

- Okay, I'm not a woman-- even though gender

is a social construct and I can rock

a fresh beat in a high pump at a moment's notice...

- [laughs] - I am not a woman,

and Carly needs strong women in her life.

Thank you for being there for her.

- It was my pleasure.

- Oh. [clears throat]

Oh, gotta take this.

I'll be right back. - Okay.

Can I see it again? - Of course.

- [laughs, coos]

- Hey, guys. - Hi.

- So we have a very special

literary guest here for one night only.

- Jane, you don't have to do that.

- So when am I gonna get my signed copy?

- Oh, he charges for that now. - You know, I haven't

read it yet, but I did give it a five-star rating on Amazon,

so hoping for, you know, a discount.

- I read it, loved it, and will totally pay

for a signature. - [laughs]

- Oh, my God, guys, look. - [gasps]

- Oh, we have to find Kat. - Uh, yeah, we do.

- Uh, Jane.

Can I talk to you for a second? - Yeah.

- Okay.

[music continues muffled]

- What's going on? - I have to tell you

about something.

- Okay. [nervous laugh]

- Something happened on tour.

- What do you mean?

- I screwed up.

Last night, I was drunk.

Uh, I was actually really, really drunk,

and I kissed somebody else.

[heartbroken music]

- Last night? - It didn't mean anything.

I swear.

[muffled pop music playing through speakers]

- So that's why you missed me so much, huh?

- I know how bad it looks--

or sounds.

- Yeah.

You haven't even been gone that long.

- I know. I don't have any excuse

other than the fact that I was drunk,

but I--you have to know that as soon as it happened

I--I knew it was a mistake and I stopped it.

It didn't mean anything. [stammering]

Jane, I'm so, so sorry.

- Wow, I wish that I heard that interview sooner.

Would have saved us a lot of time.

- Hey, can we just talk? - I can't--

I can't do this right now.

Don't.

Don't touch me. - Please--

- And don't follow me, either.

- [sighs]

Yes, I think you're okay. Just hurry.

- Yeah. - All right.

Wow, that'll be really crazy.

- Yeah, yeah, definitely.

- Out with it.

You remember how Dev's been trying to get me
