imagine not sleeping for 12 straight
days or doing the twist for 102 hours
without stopping you pick your poison
there okay you may be wondering why in
this one exactly zone jeff beats san
diego's famous world record holder from
the 70s and previews his documentary
i'll be honest with you when i read the
bio on roger guy english i assumed the
man was dead
but here he sits ready to tell his
story i feel kind of dingy a little
distant but other than that i feel okay
in 1974 at a san diego waterbed showroom
roger guy english set a world record for
sleeplessness
how long did you stay awake for
12 days 5 hours and 15 minutes
roger stayed away
playing monopoly
a story covered by cbs 8's kathy clark
with just a few hours to go before he
breaks the world's sleeplessness record
roger guy english is doing just about
anything to keep the old eyeballs open
who knows at this rate he may qualify
for two headings in the guinness book of
world records sleeplessness and the
world's first certified zombie you like
attention i love it i love making people
feel good i like making people laugh and
smile
another world record had roger in a la
jolla pool treading water 18 and a half
hours that's the hardest thing i've ever
done in my life i thought i was going to
die he certainly could have on this
crazy stunt we're going to leave san
diego and go to minneapolis where i'll
jump in the mississippi river and swim
to new orleans
and that will be an attempt to break the
world's longest swim record rogers swam
a thousand miles and gave up it didn't
work it was one of my major flops you
hope
any kind of publicity stunt will catch
on this did not catch on but this world
record did when he kissed 3 000 girls in
eight hours one every 9.6 seconds
and that was i think my fourth world's
record we did that on the streets of la
jolla was that a good day it was the
best day of my life i mean i'm not
kidding it was a massive hit i
the news about that went around the
world at one point roger held the world
record for holding world records i know
i'm going gonna walk to canada
i'm gonna walk from la jolla to canada
and that's just what he did fourteen
hundred miles before heading home for
another record you told jokes for five
hours and fifteen minutes good man yes i
did and i can happily say i didn't get
one
single laugh
but he bounced back playing the video
game pong for a week straight in a kfmb
promotion i played thousands and
thousands and thousands of people over a
seven day period non-stop set the
world's record producer jim baxter and
filmmaker tyler j french
are making a documentary about roger
well tell boogie daddy-o that is the
name of the movie they're making and
also the name of a beer thorn brewing
named after him jim baxter said even
even academy award winners don't get on
a can of beer put your right foot out in
front but how many oscar winners have
done this come on baby
let's do the twist oh you got it down
there for 102 hours 28 minutes and 37
seconds we broke the world's record this
morning at 4 am and i last 28 minutes
after that and then i collapsed any more
world records on the horizon no
not that i know of
a man famous for records would simply
like to leave these words for the record
be kind
just be kind it's easier to be kind than
it is to be mean and i like to be kind
perhaps too kind to say most people
crave the spotlight just like roger
sounds familiar doesn't it
[Laughter]
