powerful than a locomotive.

Able to leap tall buildings at a single

bound.

Look, up in the sky.

It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Superman.

It's Superman, the man of God.

Superman.

Superman, marketed to Earth as an infant

from the distant planet Krypton,

exploded. And Ho, disguised as Clark

Kent, wild planet reporter for the Daily

Planet, fights a never-ending battle for

truth, justice, and freedom with

superpowers far beyond those of ordinary

bohos. It's a finance,

With a thunderous roar, danger suddenly

erupts over a peaceful Mexican

countryside as a long, dormant volcano

explodes into action. Slowly but

inexorably, flaming doom begins to creep

down toward a village below.

Meanwhile, in far-off metropolis, there

is a man, a very extraordinary man, who

has the power to save the doomed village.

Kent, Lois just phoned in from Mexico. Oh?

Poor volcano has just blown its top. And

that town is right in the path of the

molten lava. Great Scott. I hope Lois

gets away. Kent!

I just remembered. I've got an

appointment.

This is a job for Superman. Oh, get

away!

Wow! What was that?I don't

know. Maybe it was a meteor.

Brilliant, . Brilliant! Look,

Mr.

Mayor, up there! In the sky.

It's, it's

Super Hombre, we are saved!

First, I've got to stop the flow of lava

from that volcano. Gripping the top of a

conical mountain, Superman gathers his

Herculean strength and tugs mightily,

for a split second his efforts appear

futile. Moment later, it gives way to its

superhuman power. Then Superman rams

the feet down into the mouth of the

volcano... like a fork in a bottle,

stopping it up for all time. He has

sealed up the volcano, that super

hombre. Isn't he wonderful?But there

remains still danger from the lava

that is already spilled from the volcano.

Don't worry, Mr. Mayor. Superman will

think of something. Just you watch.

Now, like a human dredge, Superman rips a

wide coral down the volcano's side,

digging a channel through the land like a

rotary digs, curving a trench around the

present town so that the lava bypasses

the town to flow harmlessly on to the sea

beyond.

Mama, we will be all right now?

Si, Pedro. Thanks toSuper

Hombre.

Then it happens. Within the creeping

lava, there is a strange pulsation. Then

something begins to hunch up from it,

begins to take form, something weird

that grows to become a fantastic figure

of molten lava and flame.

Superman, look! Great Scott.

Somehow that lava has spawned a freak

form of life, a lavaman.

It's going to attack. Stay put, Lois.

I'll handle it.

All I wanted to do was knock it out. I

didn't expect this to happen. Good

freeze, Superman. The chunks of that

Lavaman are still active. They're getting

bigger. Taking form. They've

grown as large as the original Lavaman.

Listen to the strange sounds coming from

them. Communication. They

seem to be able to communicate with each

other. Help! They're surrounding me!

Don't move, Lois.

I hate to be a crybaby, but

I was so scared. I can't blame

you, Lois. Those lavamen aren't friendly

types. Look! They're

marching on the town! Oh, Superman,

you've got to stop them! And how?If I

slam them, they'll only shatter and

create more lavamen. But they'll turn the

whole town into a blazing inferno.

Isn't there anything you can do?Got an

idea. Hope this works. Up,

up, and away!

Speaking to the nearby sea, Superman

begins to spin over its surface. Faster,

ever faster until he creates a vacuum.

Now the waters are sucked up into that

vacuum, and as Superman spins higher,

higher, the whirling waters rise with

him, forming a water spout. Up,

up until the waters reach a powering

height. With the water spout following

his spinning form, Superman draws it over

land, until at last he reaches the fiery

marching lavamen. Then, abruptly,

stop spinning, and the released waters

plunge down like an engulfing tide.

The lavamen, the water is melting.

They've reverted, changed back to puddles

of lava again.

There are no words to express her

gratitude in your super hombre.

What can we say to a man who has saved

our homes, our lives?

No thanks necessary. I was just doing my

job. Uh, speaking of jobs, I've got

another job to take care of right away.

Oh, oh, hello!

Kent, where in blue blazes have you been?

Aren't you at all worried about Lois and

that erupting volcano?Relax, Chief.
