Um, this is a very exciting exhibit

for us,

with its focus on this iconic
and terrifying figure.

Um, in Buddhist cosmology,

there are believed to be six realms of existence,

one of which is inhabited by the hungry ghosts,

beings who are in a state

of chronic deprivation and longing.

As you can see in some
of the depictions behind me,

these beings are both literally
and figuratively hungry,

but the act of swallowing is incredibly painful,

and so they are always
searching for a nourishment

that they are not equipped to digest.
