Our story tonight
concerns Quanah,

a son of an Indian chief
and Cynthia Parker,

a white woman taken captive
in a Comanche raid.

Quanah'’s story
is inseparable from that
of an old-fashioned gas jet,

a very commonplace object.

But this particular gas jet

played an uncommonly vital part
in a murder trial

and in the rendering of...

as Quanah, Texas.
