with an exciting new story
of real life in the Old West.

Less than two years
after Alexander Graham Bell

invented the telephone,

one of the world'’s first
long-distance lines

was built in California'’s
mother-lode country.

I call this story...

The year is 1878.

Heading for the mining town
of French Corral

is a young engineer
fresh from Boston.

DRIVER:

And your voice goes
through the wire,

and it'’s carried
for miles and miles and miles.

[ dings ]

[ all laugh ]

to the farmers.

would lose respect for me.

to finish the telephone line
