I'’m the Old Ranger,

and I have another
interesting true story for you

about the historic
Death Valley country.

Nowadays Volcano, California,

is a sleepy ghost town

in the Mother Lode Country.

But there are still
a few reminders

of the time
when there was an...

It is the spring of 1861.

so abundantly bestowed.

We ask Thee
to guide our nation safely

through these troubled times,

that there may be peace
between the States
of the Union.

The South can'’t hold out
against the Union Army.

we'’re Southerners!

this tragic news divide us.

In this church
there are men of good will

The Northerners
have gotten wind of our plan

of taking over the town.

and they sent out riders
to round up the rest of them.

Then we'’ll make our move
before noon.

Get word to the diggings and all
the other places.

Have those men get in here
as fast as they can.

what we'’re after.

out of here.

MAN:

[ shouting ]

Fill in around here!

We'’re taking over this town
in the name of the Confederacy.

CROWD: Yeah!

You'’ve got one minute
to come out and surrender!

You haven'’t got a chance
of holding us off.

I warn you.

Open that door and come out.

They'’re coming out!

Where'’d they get that?

Now, I'’m a man of peace,

but as the Lord is my judge,

I'’ll set the torch
to this cannon

if any one of you makes
a move towards this building.

Many of you came to this town

when it was nothing,

like I did.

You helped to build it,

took pride in it.

Many of you have
your families here.

Plan to spend
the rest of your lives here.

This is your town!

Would you destroy it
by looting and robbing?

Staining its streets
with blood?

for the Southern cause

should join
the Confederate Army

and do it honorably,

but don'’t bring the war
to Volcano.
