and, um I can't let that happen.

So, I had a strong feeling
to come here.

I'm just so happy that I did it,

because this is kind of the time

where you would want to be at home
and not be looked at.

Um, yeah, I feel pretty raw
and vulnerable and yeah.

You can clearly take these emotions
and channel them

and I'm a lifeguard at a waterpark.

I just absolutely love
seeing everybody's happy faces.

Making sure everybody is safe.

I think the best part
about working at the waterpark

is getting to go
on the rides after work.

Lifeguarding is super fun
and I love it so much.

But I've always known
deep in my heart

that my true passion is singing

I'm 63 and I'm from Mona Vale,

Northern Beaches.

People call me Welshy,

For the past 40 years,

I've been a surfing chiropractor.

And I was lucky enough
to work on the World Surf League

for about 30 of those years.

Travelling the world,
treating surfing, injuries.

Guys like Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater
were patients of mine on the tour.

Life took a U-turn,
as it often does.

I was diagnosed
with benign brain tumour

and the deep part of the brain,

which is hard to get to
and hard to get surgery.

What people don't know

is that benign brain tumours
can still kill you.

It's not just malignant ones.

And who knows how much time
I've got left on this earth.

But I've always loved music.

Music's been a huge part of my life.

This is what I wanted to do.
I don't want to die guessing.

We're very proud of you, dad. Yeah.

So, what made you decide
to come on here now?

Well, I just realised that,
you know, life's short.

You get one crack at this,

and, um, so yeah,
I just wanted to really,

you know, give it a go.

But I'm at the pointy end,

and I'm looking for just-just

and the way they look at it think,

or they just don't want
to be friends with me

because of that reason,

I used to get bullied
and be called names

for my appearance
and for my singing voice.

Hearing the bullies
say that I'm not good enough,

I get self-conscious about myself.

But I will never give up singing

because I feel like I'm home
when I'm singing.

Like, I feel like
that is my safe place.

We're very proud of you.

Very, very proud.
