Already in possession of a bow,

Patrick stole a fishing
asset from Jamie...

...and quickly turned it
into food for his group.

On Day 4, the camps competed
in three cache challenges.

Matt, Laura, and Max had
big success winning their own.

Oh, my God!

Come on, Laura, keep going!

And their camp's second
bow and arrow set.

That was.

Teamwork. Yes!

While Cheeny and Jermaine
secured a giant scrubber bull hide

to split with Patrick.

But Trish, Suzanne, and
Jamie struggled with each other

and against the competition...

Just put it over it.
That one right there.

No, we just cut this.

And came away empty-handed.

Ky hoped to overcome a recent
surgery to be the last one standing,

but a mysterious infection led
medics to a difficult decision.

Leaving Darrin and Kaiela

as the only camp of two against three camps
of three with elimination on the line.

Where's Ky?

We're the weak link here.

If Darrin and I get
sent to elimination,

we are gonna go head-to-head,

and I do not want to do that.

Today we'll test
your bushcraft skills.

Each camp must work together

to build a baited
three-stick spring snare trap.

Ideal for passively
capturing feral goats,

an invasive
species of Australia,

spring snares have been used by
Aboriginal Australians for centuries.

This type of snare that I'm
using uses a powered sapling.

I'm gonna spring it to
show you what it does.

In today's multi-phase
competition,

camps must work together to build,
trigger, and bait a spring snare trap.

Each camp must harvest
mussels from the shallows.

Open the mussels
and bait your snare trap.

For the first phase
of this challenge,

the survivalists must secure
bait for their spring snare traps.

After collecting mussels,

competitors move to
phase two of the challenge,

where camps will construct a spring
trap strong enough to snare a feral goat,

which can weigh up to 30 pounds.

Using a sapling,
three-stick trigger,

and a toggle on
the snare cordage.

Camps must successfully
activate their spring snare

before resetting and baiting
their trap with mussels.

Each camp is provided
with paracord for the snare

and a 30-pound log to
test the trap's effectiveness.

-You know how to do the trap?
-Yeah.

-100%?
-Yeah.

-Okay.
-Yeah.

I have a lot of experience
with spring snare traps,

so I'm pretty confident.

And I think that we're eating
more than the other camps.

We are the strongest
team out here.

The first camp to complete their
trap earn a cache of a feral goat.

Sweet. That would be nice.

That's a good dinner.

Let's go.

First place gets a goat?

We haven't eaten in six days!

This goat is a game changer.

Second earns a
cache of a feral rabbit.

-That's good.
-Nice.

Third remains safe
from elimination.

The last camp to complete
their trap will earn nothing

and face an
elimination challenge.

The last place finishers
go to elimination.

Expect the unexpected.

I've built this trap dozens,
maybe hundreds of times.

And today I plan to win.

This is an amazing opportunity
for us to slay legends.

We are the underdogs
with only two teammates.

But we're not gonna
give up, we're gonna fight.

We'd want to win this for Ky.

All right, here we go.

Your challenge starts now.

These challenges have been
coming down to a matter of seconds

between first place and
being in an elimination.

First, we need to go
and get the mussels.

Each camp must collect six
mussels before beginning their trap.

Digging our hands
in to find mussels

when everybody's jumping in
the water is not an easy task.

That one!

It's chaos everywhere.

It's human body parts
and muddy water,

and I'm hoping that
I can find mussels.

We didn't discuss exactly
how we were gonna do this.

Are we all going for six? Are we going
for two each? Yell each other's name.

I do not want to get
stuck behind everybody.

It's gonna make it muddy and
impossible to search for mussels.

So I immediately go as
far north of people as I can.

Luckily, at the same exact
time, Darrin got his three.

I was able to get three mussels,

and then boom, Laura got three,

Matt and I got three and
then we're on to the next point.

Go!

All camps have now completed
phase one of the challenge.

With mussels as bait, they continue
on to phase two. Building the trap.

To begin,

they must identify a sapling that
will bend and hold under tension

to act as a spring capable
of snaring and lifting

a 30-pound animal
off the ground.

Okay.

So in a sapling, you
want it to be thick enough

to where it doesn't snap
when you bend it over.

Not too thick to
where you can actually

still bend it over.

This one's a good one.

And something that
is going to spring up

and hold the weight of whatever
animal you're trying to trap.

-Two together.
-Perfect.

We're the first ones
to pick a sapling.

I'll work on this.

But the fact that we
are just a team of two

is still in the back of my mind.

First thing to do, Max is
gonna claim that sapling,

and we're gonna get some
materials to him ASAP.

There's only so many
real good saplings,

and if we have to pick one
last after collecting material,

we're gonna be
behind the eight ball.

So right here, right there.

Right here. Straight down.

This looks good enough.

Go for this one.

I'm just looking for a sapling.

I'm trying to get one
closest the finish line.

The best ones have been picked,

so I just pick a
sapling that looks good.

-If you wanna get involved, Trish?
-Yeah.

I was just really just
focused on the components

and the moving
parts for this trap.

At the same time, I have no
idea what Suzanne's doing.

Jamie and Trish already
have a sapling chosen.

I think getting one chunk of
resource material and dragging it to us

is gonna save time instead of me
running back and forth in the sand

if we're missing a stick and
trying to forage for another stick.

We don't have to forage
now, I have a pile right here.

You just point to what you
want, and I'll get it for you.

All right, Jamie.

Right. Let's start processing.

I got one.

Focus, guys. We're good.

I just kind of jumped into the
lead mode on this competition

because I have the most
experience with this trap.

So I have a lot of
experience with snare traps...

And what I'm using is
called a poacher's snare.

In Montana, I got a
rabbit... This is awesome.

So I'm pretty confident.

Cheeny is chopping wood for
the implements that we need.

-We need one more L-bracket.
-I'm looking.

For the base of the trap,

survivalists must drive two
anchor stakes into the ground.

These steaks typically
form a natural bracket

resembling an L
shape, inverted Y, or V,

in order to secure a
horizontal crossbar.

This counteracts the upward
force of the bent sapling.

Hey, hold the stick.

Way down. Thank you.

-Is it going in?
-Yeah.

What you see on Challenge Day with
our camp is an everyday life out here.

We are always
communicating with each other.

Good.

Yeah.

-Sorry.
-No, good to go.

And our motive right now
is to divide and conquer.

We're knocking down
the first two sides.

We're working in harmony.

That's good.

I've done this a lot.

Like I've been playing with
snares since I was 9 or 10 years old.

The most important
components are your Y-stakes

'cause they hold all
the tension of the snare.

Our first one was a little thin.

I thought I felt a break while
we were pounding it down.

These are gonna pull out?

-Yep.
-Yep.

And it didn't hold, so I had to
immediately make a second one.

Keep going. Just keep hammering.

-We need... Oh, Trish.
-What?

Okay, here.

Goddamn it.

Got it.

-Jamie?
-Yes?

Get that deep in there.

We are pounding these
trap parts into the ground,

but we're pounding
them into sand.

So they have to
go in really deep,

or else they're
just gonna pull out.

Make sure that's
all the way down.

Need a long one?

To build a trap like this,

it often requires an inverted
V to hold a horizontal bar.

But the good part is I
know we don't need it.

With a straight stick
and a proper knot,

you can make any straight
stick hold that horizontal bar.

The survivalists must
craft a three stick trigger

that consists of a
notched support anchor,

trigger stick, and a toggle
tied to a snare string.

The tension of the
trap is held in place

by the trigger stick delicately pinned
between the support anchor and toggle.

When an animal
trips the trigger stick,

the sapling activates,

tightening the snare loop around
the prey, lifting it into the air.

I have my toggle stick.

Okay, put the weight off.

Okay. All right then.

Killing it.

I feel super confident.

The fact that we
are a team of two,

and we were the first
ones to set our snare?

It says a lot about
who we are as a team

and how we're working together.

Hold on to this.

Kaiela's holding the tension, and
I'm holding the toggle to the trigger

so that there's no sudden
movements to set the trap off.

I'm very confident that our spring
snare is gonna work right away.

Using a log with a similar
weight to a feral goat,

they must trip the trigger,
releasing the sapling.

The log must lift
completely off the ground,

simulating a snared
animal that cannot escape.

If successful,

they can then reset and bait
their trap to complete the challenge.

You got it?

-Okay, we just gotta make it shorter.
-Yeah.

The snare has to lift the log off
the ground and hold it off the ground.

Our snare doesn't
have enough spring.

I panic, and Darrin is
calm, cool, and collected

and has all of the
confidence that he can fix this.

We need a toggle.

The toggle setup.

So right now we're
doing an inline loop.

This allows us for
some adjustment.

The better we can adjust
this, the faster we'll be.

Let's do a little test.

This might be too hard.
Too hard, too much power.

The amount of times I've built
this trap, I can't even tell you.

This is one of those challenges

that absolutely requires
real world experience.

This sapling has a lot
of force pulling out of it.

So if we were to set that trap and the whole
thing pulls out, we're back to square one.

So we need to make sure

that our foundation is
essentially locked in.

We're moving at
a really fast pace.

Everyone here is also
moving at a really fast pace.

You're good. Pull this down.

It's gonna go over
the top. Whoa!

We're getting everything
secured, everything is working.

Right there is good.

Hold what you got.

I think you're gonna see a
little goat eating from our side.

I look over at Matt,
Laura, and Max...

I gotta get something heavy.

And we are in the lead.

Setting the noose.

If we set and trigger this
trap, we are gonna win this.

That's gonna pull it out.

Under the threat of elimination,

camps race to build, trigger,
and bait a spring snare trap.

Pound these more.

We have to make a
three-stick trigger snare

to be able to suspend a
medium-sized game animal

that would be
found in this location.

But in this case, it's
gonna be a large log.

After an unsuccessful attempt,

Darrin and Kaiela fix their
snare, fighting to keep their lead...

-We just gotta make it shorter.
-Yeah.

...while other camps
work furiously...

All right, what else do
we need? I have a toggle.

...with hopes to claim the
first place cache of a feral goat

and second place
cache of a rabbit.

Jermaine, Patrick, and Cheeny become the
second camp ready to trigger their trap.

Setting the noose.

Watch yourself.

We're in the lead right now,
and we go and test our trap.

-Copy. Make this tighter.
-Yeah.

Where?

Right here.

The trap goes off and
we made a mistake.

There's too much cordage.

So when the log gets pulled up,

it doesn't end up getting
fully off from the ground.

We'll make this tighter?

-No, make this tighter. It's easier.
-Oh, okay.

So we have to shorten the
cordage and make a new slip knot.

It needs to go in more.

The force of that
sapling pulling up

is too great to
hold in the sand.

Here we go.

So I go and I search, I
find a good heavy log.

And I bring that heavy log over,

tying it together to
that horizontal piece.

Just go like this, now
it's the other way around.

Boom.

That heavy log now is
acting as counterweight,

pulling those
stakes to the earth,

keeping 'em from
coming out of the sand.

That has now secured
this mechanism in place.

Out here, if you wanna win,
you have to think outside the box.

There's the anchor right here.

-All right, let's get it put in.
-Here.

We might need to move it.

We have all the
components pretty quickly.

-I have a toggle.
-Okay.

And we're figuring out it's
not an easy task to do in sand.

Oh.

Back? Right here?

So we set everything
up, get it all ready.

Suzanne's got the
knot ready for the noose.

All right. Up and over.

All right, get this in here.

Okay. Ready?

-Oh.
-Oh.

The string is too long.

I was relying upon
Jamie and Trish,

and I erroneously assumed that the line was
already cut and it was the right length.

That was a costly mistake, and there's
just no room for mistakes out here.

-Damn it.
-sake, man.

We're short a set of hands,

and we're still staying competitive
and in the top of the pack.

-Okay.
-It's okay.

Darrin adjusts the line
and then we reset it.

You know, losing Ky,

somebody who is extremely
skilled at bushcraft...

Take a breath.

...is a really big deal. This
is kind of her expertise.

Can I release a
little bit of tension?

-Let me get this.
-Okay.

-You good?
-Yeah, I'm fine.

When we go to reset
it, it false triggers.

So we're just losing
seconds at this point.

Right now, our log didn't have enough
tension to lift it up off the ground.

So we're resetting it.

-Good to go.
-Letting go.

-Slow.
-Yep.

Max, Laura, and Matt
are hot on our heels,

and we don't have
room for error.

Dig it out, Cheeny. Dig
it out, quick. Dig it. Dig.

Okay, we're good.

So we reset it...

The knot came undone.

We go to spring it,
everything is the right height,

and the knot fails.

Do it one more
time. It's working.

The slip knot didn't work.

-Yeah, just tie it again.
-Quick. There we go.

It's my fault, guys.

I'm very good at my
knots, I rushed this knot.

-Hold this, Cheeny.
-Got it.

Make sure that holds.

We in business.

We have to win this goat.
The goats need a goat.

I'm so locked in.

It's hard for me to even understand
what anybody else is doing.

-Okay?
-There we go.

Setting a trigger on a trap
is always the hardest part.

It something that requires
finesse and precision.

When you are amped
up on adrenaline,

and when there's three of you trying to
make it happen and there's a lot of hands,

it can be really
hard to get it perfect.

I trust my group mates.

We were able to troubleshoot
anything that came up.

We get our trap set.

Watch out.

There we go.

All right, back up. Back up.

-There we go.
-Go time. Go.

Boom! It's suspended.

All right, we pull it
off, we set it again.

After demonstrating their
traps ability to snare an animal,

Matt, Max, and Laura must now reset
the trap and bait it with mussel meat.

We got all our mussels in there.

Using the log to keep our
poles down, it was pivotal for us.

-Let it go? Oh yeah.
-Get the noose going.

We set this for the last time,
we bait it with the mussels.

Come on, baby.

And boom!

-Let's go!
-Go, go!

Let's go! Come on, come on!

Yeah, baby!

-Yeah!
-Yes!

I'm feeling fired up.

We haven't eaten in six
freaking days, so let's freaking go.

We have not lost a single
challenge that we've been in together.

Matt and Max and
Laura just got first.

I hear Matt, Laura, and Max.

My thought is that we
have to make this now

because we need that rabbit.

-Snare set.
-Just try again with the log.

I know that there's still that
second place food option.

We continue to set our trap,

but we had to
readjust a few times.

Here, hold this down.

Good to go.

You set up?

It's in the air.

Whoop. It goes up.

-We gotta reset.
-Reset and get the bait.

And we are off to the races.

If we wouldn't have had
those tiny little mishaps,

we would be in first place
well before the A team.

Bait.

We bait it, and then we book it.

We just got a rabbit.

It feels good to be a winner.

Coming in second
feels really good.

I've just got more food,
I've got more energy,

and I've just got
more confidence.

trigger their trap.

That sapling is
not the best sapling

to pick up the weight
of the log off the ground.

I'm just gonna reset it.

the table for us,

but we still have the
ability to come in third.

an elimination challenge.

not being the last camp.

We reset it, we crush our
mussels as fast as we can.

I feel really good about how we
performed in this competition today.

And, hey, neither of

I hear people celebrating, and
I know it. I've been here before.

I hate the thought of this

We literally brought
home the meat.

This goat puts us
back in this challenge.

We had to get this.

This right now, this
is more than their fish.

-For sure.
-Everyone's fish combined would not equal this.

We're the only group out here
right now without a fishing asset.

-We gotta get to work.
-We gotta get this processed.

You know, we'll get it
skinned out, get the meat going.

Tonight is going to be a feast.

But not until we
get our work done.

As we process an entire goat.

Currently, I am working
on putting together a teepee

so we can smoke
our big win today.

Last time I had made a smoker was
when I was a mentor to some fans.

That's awesome!

I was able to process
an entire warthog

and then preserve
it for 21 days.

These reeds are amazing
for what we need them for,

which is tying off the
rack on my smoker.

So by the end here, hopefully this
looks like a meat Christmas tree.

It suspends above the fire and
that smoke's gonna hit all of that meat

and slowly and surely suck the
moisture out of it, harden it up,

and make it so we can
eat it for a long time.

I need to go get some paper
bark to put all the way around it

so we can really get
that smoke going in there.

There's been other Last
One Standing competitions

where people didn't
prioritize their meat process.

A little bit off.

This is like a whole
channel of just green meat.

If you do it right and
you can keep it dry,

this meat here can
last us for a long time.

That is absolutely beautiful.

camp a little more oomph.

We're killing it. This is
what victory looks like.

We didn't win any food today,

wilder as the days go by.

Next up for this camp is
an elimination challenge,

so I know I need fuel.

I'm pretty sure these
are black currants.

I just tasted
one, it's delicious.

I'm gonna grab as much as I can

and bring them back to camp.

I'm not gonna be greedy.

My camp mates
are my competitors,

but I just gotta get
my game face on

and try to think a
couple of steps ahead.

I got some currants.

-Oh, nice.

Did you guys find any yet?

-No, we were...
-Not just yet.

I'm gonna focus on water

-and making shoes.
-We can eat them now if you want.

Jamie and I, neither
one of us trust Trish.

-It's good sugar, and they're sweet.

...Trish felt that
maybe the meat

had been contaminated somehow,

intentionally, by a
fellow camp mate.

I'm currently assuming

that my partner's
trying to sabotage me

because we're going to
an elimination challenge.

I've got nothing.

I've offered up some
of these black currants.

Nobody wants them.

They don't trust me.

So, I'm going to eat them and...

Maybe they think I'm
resistant to the poison.

-More for me, I guess.

Tomorrow, they could
be part of the 13 losers.

Yesterday, we won.

We got that rabbit.

Knowing that Matt, Max
and Laura got that goat,

I really wanna get myself a hog.

Mmm-hmm.

I hunt pigs pretty much
every month at home.

Patrick has a bow,

and I think he really wants to
score an animal with the bow.

It's kind of a sit back
and wait situation.

I know my skills firsthand.

I know what I'm
able to accomplish.

I took down the first big game
animal in Last One Standing.

This is like twice
the size of a warthog.

We have to keep on top of
our game every chance we get

to take on the other
teams, to keep winning,

and this is how you
do it, by being proactive.

It looks like I'm sleeping.

I'm actually studying.

I'm going through my little
book that I put together,

and I'm looking at the pages

of different versions
of snare traps,

and then deadfall
traps and then bird traps.

I have a level of anxiety.

I desperately do not
wanna be eliminated.

roller coaster of emotions,

but I am completely
focused on the task at hand.

I know my skill
set is good enough.

I'm certain that, if I went
head-to-head with Trish,

I would beat her.

In primitive survival,

bushcrafted pot hangers
can prevent hot water spills

and serious burn injuries.

For this elimination challenge,

survivalists are provided a
limited amount of cordage

to bushcraft a swinging
arm pot hanger,

which consists of a
grounded anchor pole

cut with precise notches

to raise and lower
a swinging arm.

To complete the challenge,
competitors must boil a pot of water,

then raise and swing it
away from the fire to cool.

to complete this task

will be extracted immediately.

Growing up in Scotland,
it's very, very competitive.

It's made me strong.
It's made me fierce.

It's made me undefeatable.

Trish, Suzanne and Jamie

are competing in a
three-phase bushcraft challenge.

To construct a
swinging arm pot hanger,

build a fire and bring
a pot of water to a boil.

It has to be designed
a certain way.

This is gonna be the base piece.

The stakes are so high
right now that I'm nervous.

I really am holding out hope

that I'll be able to
pull this off today.

I'm trying to figure out
my notching right now.

Notches in the anchor pole

are used to keep the pot
hanger's swinging arm in place,

allowing the survivalists

to rapidly heat or
cool their water.

This is my center pole.

If I bury it...

One of my biggest
strengths is being analytical.

I'm taking everything
that I've learned

from all my other challenges,
from all my studies,

and applying them real time.

I'm trying to make these
notches nice and flat

so they won't interfere
with the stability of the arm.

So, on the backside, you need
a cooling notch for the stick.

This one's really important

'cause it's got to be able
to cool away from the fire

and sit here.

The issue is I can't figure out

how to get this, like,
stick stabilized in here.

What the?

I can't get this thing to stay.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm sure that I don't
have all the skills

that some of these
folks have out here,

but I can figure things out.

My strategy is just
to be slow and steady.

Just trying to stay
calm and not freak out.

I'm really confident right now.

I just... I need to
focus. I need to be fast.

I have to bury this deep enough

that it holds its own
weight and the pot weight.

As learned from the
previous challenge,

there's no room for mistakes.

This has to be correct
the first time around,

because, if it has to be
redone, there's no time.

I'm working on my swinging arm.

This one might be it.

I'm not the strongest,
and I'm not the fastest,

so I'm relying on my
ability to analyze situations.

So, I'm gonna square this
off so it can sit in that notch.

My brain is my superpower.

I'm gonna score it a
little to help it sit better.

I am really relying on
physics for this stuff.

Right now, I'm just
measuring out the twine

for my arm to be
secured to the pole.

I'm going at it slow
and methodical,

and I know that, if I go fast,

I am working on making sure
that I have the correct angles.

If I don't get these
angles correct,

it'll spin and drop.

I feel really good about
what I'm doing right now.

so I don't lose any water.

To complete the challenge,

then bring a pot
of water to a boil

before swinging the
arm away from the fire,

allowing the pot to cool.

Suzanne, she's tougher
than I had expected.

It looks like she just
dissects the situation

and made it work.

I try to correct the wrongs
and fix the problems

without having to repeat them.

real slow just now

keep the flames below the jute,

below the handle of the pot,

because, when it
whips up and over,

and the wind hits
it, it touches the jute,

and I can see little
sizzles on the jute,

and I do not want
the pot to drop.

I should have wet the
jute before I started,

but I wasn't thinking.

I saw little burns in
the jute on the side

from the flames licking over it,

and I know from experience that,

if I didn't figure
something out quickly,

that it was gonna burn
and dump everything

and I would have to
start all over again.

Just figuring out those
problems before they arise

is why I go slow and
calculated and methodical.

I'm wetting my jute,
hoping that it doesn't burn.

Ooh, I have steam.

I'm so excited.

I need to get it to
a full rolling boil.

I see the simmer
and I see the steam

and I see a pop or two of
bubble, and then I don't have it,

and I look underneath
and the fire keeps

not staying exactly
as high as I want.

the flames down here

burn the structure.

it too high because,

when it gets too high
and goes over the edge,

it starts to burn the jute.

So I need to analyze everything

and, like, take a step back
and do problem solving.

exactly as high as I want.

failure, that's for sure,

but it's definitely a
good thing for me.

My pot should
still be quite hot.

It keeps getting almost
there and not boiling. Damn it.

the best bet for you to
do is to run up on them.

They can move quick
for maybe 200 yards,

but after that, they're gassed.

Though they
typically avoid conflict,

Australian feral boars

will use their muscular
200-pound frames

and razor sharp seven-inch tusks

to charge and slash their
enemies when feeling threatened.

Makes a large grunt.

This is a warning from the boar

that his next move is
going to be to attack.

I know how these animals act.

We simply bide our time.

That's patience. That's hunting.

This is the first time

I've really started
feeling frustration,

because he's not
listening to me at all.

You're not gonna
sneak up going so slow,

and I feel like I'm
getting held back.

You, like, walk really
slow, creep like snails,

that's not how you do it.

The hogs are gonna

Outer wood can be something to

which is the two
toughest parts of the pig.

When you're going
hunting with someone,

We're able to find these
puffball mushrooms.

You can squeeze
them, spores come out,

and they're very light
and the wind takes them.

And they're visible.

So paying attention
to these spores,

we know exactly what
direction we need to be

in regards to these pigs.

We creep up slowly.

We don't want to spook any pigs.

And I decide to
go a different way.

This way, if something happens,

there's one of us in
two different locations.

It multiplies our odds of
being able to get a shot.
