I was the girlfriend.

A longtime girlfriend.

I started working at the dentistry
at 2002.

That's when I met Larry.

He was the owner of practice
and extremely successful.

He was always traveling
to Africa or some place.

He started asking me out immediately.

He would write me little notes
and send me flowers.

I was reluctant.

But after a little while,
I slowly, slowly got to know him.

Our childhoods were very similar,
in that our mothers were kind of crazy.

We really made a connection,
a friendship based on that.

But one of the girls at the office
told me he was married.

And I said to Larry,
"I've heard you're married."

And he said,
"It's okay. We do our own thing.

Let me be your entertainment."

He asked me
if I wanted to go somewhere with him.

And then we started traveling
all over the place.

- You have to be in the video.
- I don't wanna be in the video.

- Stop it.
- Okay.

As we traveled, we fell in love.
Hundred percent.

I'm Dr. Larry Rudolph.

No sights, no sounds, and no fears.

This case is just as
salacious as a True Crime story.

Infidelity, fraud, and murder.

Well, now, he's being accused of murder.

Sixty five year old Lori Milliron...

The husband and his mistress...

Prosecutor said Rudolph
intended to start a new life

with his girlfriend...

...who is also
his office manager.

There was no ulterior motive,
or you know...

...plan to do this.

He's not this horrible person.
I'm not either.

This call
is from a federal prison.

Dr. Rudolph,
we're back on the record.

Are you ready to proceed?

- Yes, sir.
- Okay.

When were you first introduced to hunting?

My father first introduced me

when I was just a small boy.

I had an affinity for
the outdoors, like a lot of young kids do.

My father was a very kind and wonderful
man who taught me to be a good hunter.

And he taught me patience,
to sit still, listen and look.

It just was in my blood.

I took my first African safari in 1986.

I was in love with the adventure.

Did he hunt a lot? Yes.

Mostly in Africa, when I was much younger.

I have a lot of good memories.

I remember it was
a quiet, remote, peaceful place.

He was an experienced hunter.

He had over 400 and something
different species of animals.

That's pretty prestigious in that world.

The more hunting I did,

it drew me
into pro-hunting and conservation.

My wife, Bianca, and I

spent over 25 years
committed, devoted to those missions.

The single, most powerful,

most influential
hunter's rights organization in the world.

The Safari Club
was founded in 1972.

It grew to over 300 chapters.

And we're now the world's largest
sport hunting international organization.

At SCI,
we protect the rights of all hunters.

No matter what you hunt,
how you hunt, or where you hunt.

The National Rifle Association

is all about, you know, shooting,

Second Amendment Rights,
that kind of thing,

where Safari Club International
is more behind the hunters.

Safari Club is a very big deal.

Our convention is national news.

We have an interesting
group of celebrities that attend.

We all have to stand up,
and stand up for what we believe in.

For our passions,
for the outdoors, for hunting,

for shooting and for everything.
And there's no better place than this.

So, yeah, Safari Club
is just a wonderful organization.

To be president of Safari Club
is a big deal if you're in Safari Club.

In 1998, I became president.
I took it very seriously.

When I was president, George Bush Sr.,

General Schwarzkopf,
and Chuck Yeager attended the convention.

I hope that I furthered the mission
of Safari Club.

When Larry and my friend Bianca
would walk into a room,

it was like the room was on fire.

It was a very impressive show
that they did.

It was fun to watch her talk to people
about hunting.

Bianca's eyes would light up. Green eyes,
just with this fire behind them.

She was a wonderful shot.

She knew how to take down the animals
better than most men I know.

This river can't be crossed
by swinging on a vine.

Crocodiles are its principle inhabitants.

When Bianca started
big game hunting,

she really, really
enjoyed leopard hunting.

That was her favorite.

She like the way they looked,
the way the acted.

The fact that they were
amazing predators, and you know...

It was a tremendous
sport trophy to acquire.

Bianca seemed to be very nice,
personable,

and she was clearly devoted to Larry.

When I first met Larry Rudolph,

he reminded me of Howdy Doody
without freckles.

I might even dance a little bit, too.

That's good.

He was friendly
and he had that look about him,

but I'd started having very big concerns

about the morality of Larry Rudolph.

There were lots of tall tales he told.

The first time I met Larry Rudolph,
he had approached me and said,

"I went fishing in Zambia

and this crocodile
bit the tip of my thumb off."

If anything, you'd be missing a hand.

There was a rumor
that he had cut it off with a hatchet.

You know, I mean, there were
all kinds of rumors going around.

Some people bought into it.

Some people thought,
"Wow, this is amazing.

This guy fought off a crocodile, and
only lost his thumb. He's really a stud."

It created a mythology around him.

The hunting community
recognizes a tough guy.

Somebody who takes the most
difficult hunts, who challenges himself.

I think Larry saw
the Safari Club presidency

as something that he wanted,
and he was going to get it.

Hello, my name is Dr. Larry Rudolph,

and I'm a candidate
for president-elect of Safari Club.

We are the most powerful...

He ran against Ron Arendt.
A reasonable, ethical guy.

I was primed to become the president,

but Larry wanted to be president
of Safari Club International

above and beyond everything else.

He was not gonna play fair.
I didn't know how unfair he would play.

It was a Friday,
and I was going to visit my family.

And he said to me,
"I want you to put these in envelopes

and mail them along your way home."

He wanted different postmarks on them.

They were ballots
for his office of president.

He said he didn't do that. He claimed
that he didn't do anything wrong.

- Vote for Larry.
- Vote for Larry.

Larry craved power.

Ron Arendt lost fairly significantly.

Absolutely
I was worried for the organization.

I think Larry was a small man with
a big ego and that's a dangerous game.

Hi, I'm Larry Rudolph,
president of Safari Club International.

Almost ten months have passed
since I took the office as your president.

The time has passed quickly.

There were things
that Bianca would overlook.

She would give him
the benefit of the doubt.

If being president made Larry happy,
she was gonna support him in it.

And she did it very well.

There's a luncheon
that always happens at Safari Club.

And she would talk to people and educate
them about what hunting was all about.

And then Larry was doing
some of the ads for Safari Club.

Hi, my name is Dr. Larry Rudolph...

He liked to see himself on TV.
That was his medium. He knew it.

He'd been involved in it before
in his dental practice.

Building himself up.

"Look what I am. Look what I've done.
Look what I continue to do."

I think he fancied himself
a better version

of Wayne LaPierre.

To stop a bad guy with a gun,

it takes a good guy with a gun.

Larry is a megalomaniac.

Once there was a major fundraiser
up in Alaska.

Sarah Palin was gonna be speaking
that night.

You say, I say, we say, "Keep your change.

We'll keep our God,
our guns, our Constitution."

There was just a mass of red roses
all across the stage.

And Larry was coming out with his arms
spread wide as if to give her a hug.

Larry tried to work his way in
to try to get close to her.

Sarah put up her hands like this,

basically saying,
"Don't you come any closer."

If he saw a woman,
whether she was married, engaged,

you know, it didn't matter,

he would just go up
and insert himself into the situation.

Larry went to a convention
and took a woman with him.

And they shared the same unit together.

It was somewhat scandalous.

What's going on? This man is married.
He's got a woman staying with him.

Rumor was later on, it was Lori.

Everybody went,
"That's not Bianca."

You know, they all know Bianca.

It was such a slap in the face.

Bianca didn't know at that point,

but he obviously
was already having an affair.

In what capacity was
Miss Milliron, uh, accompanying you?

She was there in a capacity
as a medical aide to me.

- Medical aide?
- Yes, sir.

Okay.

He would have to take her to these trips,
because he had a heart problem.

What's more is she's a hygienist.
She's not a nurse.

The entire chapter
was very concerned

about the way this looked.

But it was just the tip of the iceberg.

He was even cheating on Lori.
I heard stories.

I've heard more than rumors.

A young lady called me up one day
and she said,

"Larry has been showing
some interest in me.

And I've been told that he's divorcing."

She said he sent her a bouquet.

And in the middle of the bouquet
was a dildo.

Larry had, from what I could see,
very few scruples or morals.

Extramarital affairs and lying
as the president of Safari Club

is completely unacceptable.

I opened the investigation
to get him tossed from the club.

- Good morning, Dr. Rudolph.
- Morning, sir.

Safari Club decided to take him
completely out of the record book,

and they took him out of the history,
so he doesn't exist anymore.

Hi, I'm Dr. Larry Rudolph,
president of SCI.

I had seen Bianca.

And all of the light
had gone out of her eyes.

She didn't wanna believe that...

that Larry had done
anything dishonest or unethical,

until things really started stacking up.

She really hid it from us.
And she did that to protect us.

It says a lot
about the kind of parent she was.

My mother brought out the best in him.

And Lori Milliron brought out the worst.

Now, obviously Bianca knew about Lori...

but she still was going to help him
get through the Safari Club stuff.

I think she may have said to him,

"It was a lapse in judgment,
but maybe we can fix it."

And they moved up to Arizona.
They had this little place there.

Bianca was very protective
of her marriage.

She said "Yes, we're working on it."

She loved Larry to death.

She would've done anything for him.

Your primary residence in Arizona
with whom do you live there?

My wife.

See, we've had a property
in Phoenix for a number of years.

Bianca loved the Arizona house.

And she made it her own.

They were doing a lot of things together.

Everything was going very well.

And it just seemed like
somebody's just flipped a switch.

You see us kissing and hugging
and we're the happy couple

and we're the perfect couple
and everything's good.

And, oh, no, it's not.

After they had thrown Larry
out of Safari Club,

he had sold his house
and moved to Arizona full time.

So I figured, you know,
he and Bianca had moved on.

Um...

I had a loyalty to him,

so I did whatever it took
to keep the business running.

I worked all day,
every day, seven days a week.

It's hard to be a manager and, you know,
make sure things are running smoothly,

and everybody's doing
what they're supposed to do.

And on top of that, by herself.

It was really hard
and became untenable for her.

We have five offices,
and we're understaffed.

All right. Well...

I'm not even gonna talk
to you about this.

I feel like I'm not doing enough.

What? I never said that.
You're doing more than enough.

- I feel like I'm not doing enough.
- You're working your tail off.

Oh, boy.

He was in Arizona.
Bianca was out there with him.

And then he'd swoop in to see Lori.

A coworker said, "If anybody calls here
and asks if Lori still works here,

more specifically, his wife,
tell them no."

He had them by the thumb.

You know, he had his thumb on both of them

and control over them,
and money-wise and everything.

Lori was so tired of being on the side.

She wanted to have whatever she wanted

and be able to show it off.

She wanted Bianca's life.

One time she came to my house and
she goes, "Hey, I brought some red wine."

She goes, "I hope you like wine."

We had a long conversation.

It surprised me because she just
didn't communicate with people.

I felt bad for her.
She had nobody to talk to.

So she just opened up.

She wanted to get this off her chest.

She said that she gave Larry an ultimatum,

and that ultimatum
was to get rid of Bianca.

She said she gave him one year.

I was like, "Get rid of her,
like, how or what do you mean?

Divorce, like..."

And looking back,
I didn't put anything together.

I didn't like Larry
but Bianca did.

So I was really hoping
that they could pull it together.

She said that they were gonna
take a trip to Zambia.

You know, "We're gonna go away,
we're gonna have fun, we're gonna hunt.

We'll be alone.
Nobody's gonna be around us.

So there's no pressures.
There's no interference from anyone."

She was gonna do this leopard hunt
and he was gonna support her in it.

If you were Bianca, you would be thinking,

"Well, maybe
he really wants to work on this."

But he had other ideas.

I'm sorry, I'm finding my motivation.
Give me a second.

I am a former US State Department
foreign service officer.

Arguably the pinnacle of my career
may have been

when I was the ambassador to
the Republic of Zambia in southern Africa.

It's a beautiful country
and some of the most beautiful wildlife.

- Elephants and lions and buffalo.

No rhinos left in Zambia.
There used to be a ton of them there.

- And there are leopards.

They will kill an animal
and drag it up a tree.

And then you go sit there
and watch it eat it.

You can be ten feet away.
It's just so, so very cool.

The guides at these national parks
and safari

are highly trained in tracking and finding
animals and they're very good at doing it.

The first time
we met with Larry Rudolph,

I was assigned by the office of the
Department of National Parks and Wildlife

to go and monitor the safari hunter
by the name of Bianca Rudolph.

They were a lovely couple.

To me, I saw that they were in love.

My main duty is to monitor, to check all
the type of the animals the hunter kills.

You write in the book or in the license.

And she had a lot of trophies.

She's one of the best hunters
I've hunted with.

She was killing animals
with a single shot.

I stayed with them more than ten days.

So, when you are together,
you are a family.

There is a lot of jokes,
you share everyhing.

They were just laughing, like,
you know, a very good couple.

Then we said, "Bye." I go to my own tent,
and they went to their cabin.

It was a calm, misty dawn

in Kafue National Park...

when the peaceful silence
was pierced by a gunshot.

- Larry.
- Larry Rudolph.

- Larry.
- Larry.

- Larry.

We found the wife,
Bianca Rudolph,

lying down in a pool of blood.

I didn't believe it.

To see someone... The person
you were with, maybe some hours ago,

And you just see them lying down
dead like that.

This is a police case.

So we have to go and report to the police.

On the 11th of October, 2016,
early in the morning,

I received a telephone call telling me

that a female client shot herself
while packing the firearm.

The husband said it was an accident.

The story,
at least in the first 24 hours,

seemed to have held water

till people started digging more deeply.

I started the investigation.

Lawrence Rudolph said
that when he came out of the shower,

he found the wife lying down
in a pool of blood,

and a shotgun was just lying next to her.

But this man came out fully dressed.

At what stage did he dress up?

And according
to Safari Hunting guidelines,

At night, the firearm was cleared.

There was no bullet in the firearm.

There's no shells in the shotgun.

Next day, the consular chief gets a call
from the cremation place saying,

"Oh, we got the medical examiner's report.
We're gonna cremate her today."

Lawrence Rudolph wanted
to bribe the funeral parlor officer.

He wanted to do things so fast.

He clearly didn't want
anybody to see the body.

It made the spidey senses
of the consular chief kinda go off.

So, the consular chief
went to photograph the body.

The next day, Larry calls batshit mad.
He's just livid.

And that's when he offhandedly says,

"She might've committed suicide."

Lawrence Rudolph,
he changed the story.

He said, "No. The wife had shot herself."

At the police station,
I tried to ask him some questions.

I said, "Sir, how did it happen?"

Mr. Lawrence was not comfortable
with my questions.

He was even almost
getting annoyed with me.

So I could see that, you know,
something fishy has happened.

Walk in my shoes for a minute.

You're in a third world country,

and you need to do
certain things, obviously,

to follow procedures
if that's the right term.

But you need help.

You have to turn to somebody to
that's supposed to be helping you. Right?

When I called the United States Embassy,

I introduced myself to this man.
They call him a counselor general.

I believe it was.

And I said, "Sir, I need your help.

There's been a horrible, tragic accident.

My wife was on safari.

She passed away.

I don't know what to do.

I need your help, sir.

I'm an American citizen. Can you help me?

The consular chief
got an investigation going.

Larry... just looking at his career
and his history,

I just think he steamrolled it.

He was creating the narrative.

And he got the outcome he wanted
out of the Zambian police.

The body winded up getting cremated.

This is going too fast.

The medical examiners
never turned a report around this quick.

The police report said
it was an accidental discharge.

It basically says she was killed
by a shot to the heart.

You go on safari
and they all call you bwana.

Bwana means boss in Swahili.

Larry's the bwana.

So, if he says this is what happened,

they're gonna tend to
go in that direction.

I think Larry took advantage of that.

He is a powerful man.

The Zambian investigation
concluded it was an accident.

He was not detained.

I was shocked.

He was just a free person.

Imagine, you're married 36 years

and you lost your wife.

People use the word "Post-traumatic."

I mean, I'm basically
walking like a dead man,

just a zombie through this process.

I'm half in tears,
hadn't eaten in a day and a half.

The trauma,

the pain, the emotion is indescribable.

They put down, in writing...
In conclusion, it was an accident.

They let me leave the country.

I left heartbroken and sick.

But yes, it was an accident.

Julian and Ana,
they were looking for Bianca and Larry

around the time
they're supposed to be home,

and they couldn't get a hold of anybody.

So, Ana was really concerned.

She was at a dental conference

and I went over to take care of her dogs.

Julian walked down the driveway
and he's like, "Where's my sister?"

You know, where's Ana? And that's when
I realized something happened.

I was driving to a football game,

and I got a phone call from my father.

He said there was a terrible accident.

And I asked him if she was okay.

And he told me that she was gone.

It was a couple days after she died.

But my dad never wanted to talk about it.

My sister and I had a lot of questions
about what happened.

How could this have happened, right?

We just will never be the same.

I don't know how
I'm going to go on with my life.

I can't live without Mom. It's too much.

I'm broken.

This isn't real. This can't be real.

One of the girls that I worked with
came in and said,

"Did you hear that Bianca's dead?"

And I'm there, "Oh my God, what happened?"

And she said she was in a...
Killed in an accident in Africa.

"Do you believe that?" And she said, "No."
I said, "I don't either."

He could've done the right thing
and just divorced his wife

if he no longer wanted to be married.

Unfortunately, he chose the wrong path.

The first thing
I thought about was,

"He did it.

I know Larry did this."

We all said, "Larry killed her."

Larry had something to do with it.

Larry was the type of person
that could go to one to ten so fast.

But when I found out Bianca was dead,

everything started to be put in place
about this person.

It's like, "Oh my God,
why didn't I see this?"

When I found out, I was blown away.

Bianca was just
a really, really nice person.

Before she died,
they were getting life insurance on her.

She was in agreement.
She signed the application.

She took her medical exams.

Fairly normal.

The only thing that caused me

a little bit of a red flag at the time,

was that Larry was very, very anxious

about getting this done for her.

But years later,

when I found out that there were
multiple policies on her

that I didn't know about,

it rose to a level of alarm for me.

I got a text message from Larry

that said there had been
a terrible accident.

The police did an investigation and...

they said it was an accident.

Everyone believed
that it was an accident, um,

so I assumed it was an accident as well.

He had just gone through this funeral,

and all this stress
of this while horrible incident.

And he just wanted to be with a friend.

It kind of seemed natural.
We just started spending time together.

And eventually...

Yeah, at that point
we started making a life together.

They wanted a fresh start
without other memories.

My mom moved into the house in Arizona.

It was a beautiful home
that he had,

but we decided
we would build one together.

It was just sort of
around the corner from the current house.

It was definitely
their dream home.

They called it their forever home.

It was the first place that they together
made compromises with each other

to build something that was uniquely them.

I was happy.

It was truly,
like, magical for a long time.

Years.

Until...

...it wasn't.

There's a ton of money
in Phoenix, Arizona.

People are showcasing
their diamonds and their watches.

It's just the way the culture is.

It wasn't uncommon for a gentleman to
come and sit at the bar at the steak house

and spend a thousand dollars on himself.

Larry was a very good tipper.
We were told to take care of him.

Lori always had a mink or a fancy purse.

Larry would always get a New York strip
and Ketel martini.

His passion for hunting in Africa,

that's what he wanted to talk about
the most.

There was never a mention of an ex-wife.

One night, Larry and Lori came in.

Like normal, they had called ahead

and we had their spots ready for them
at the bar.

I could sense that there was some tension.

And the tension seemed to get
a little bit higher than usual.

The music changes songs from loud
to that in-between song quiet.

He pointed his finger in Lori's face
and said,

"I killed my fucking wife for you."

Lori grabbed her purse
and she walked out of the bar.

It just seemed way too Lifetime movie.

There was zero concern with Larry.
Zero concern.

I've never seen anyone that calm.
He didn't regret saying that.

Like, what does that mean?
My brain couldn't even go there.
