of San Francisco

and reminding you that

There's been a lot of excitement
down here this afternoon.

Mayor Steve Fisk of Puget City,

a man who used to work in these
docks sometime ago as longshoreman,

has come down to look
things over for old time's sake.

Some of his friends made him a
bet that politics have made him soft,

and you're just in time to see him win that bet.

Say, that's a rather dangerous

Yeah, the claw is the right arm
of a longshoreman.

He works, fights, does everything
but makes love with it.

Well, I don't really know
much about making a speech.

And even if I did,

it would kind of take
the wind out of me

when I stand here and look
at this magnificent body.

Speechmaking just isn't my line.

A few years ago I was a longshoreman,

and all the talking in Puget City was being
done by boss Henshaw and his machine,

and Henshaw's the crook who
owns the shipping company.

Henshaw's a crook and he knows it.

And then when the city council,

which is still controlled
by that crook Henshaw,

objected to a new storage
system in the poor district,

I personally threw a lot of
them into the city hall fish bar.

It may not be good politics,
but it got things done.

And that's why we mayors
are here at this convention,

to get things done.

We're here to work.

We're servants of the people.

We're not here to play.

We're paid to get things done.

It's a great town.
