animal life down there

that has yet to be found.

famous recordings

really capture the
sound of bigfoot?

And is that a dinosaur
running wild in Florida?

- My immediate
thought is it's a raptor.

Around the globe are videos-

- [woman] What the heck is this?

- [Tony] Photos and
sounds that defy explanation.

- [Man] Is it some kind
of unidentified object?

- [Man 2] A plane that
was literally frozen in the air.

- [Tony] What are they?

- [Man 3] Some sort
of bizarre mutation.

- Extraordinary claims
need extraordinary proof.

- I'm Tony Harris.

And as a journalist
for more than 30 years,

I've followed the facts
where they take me.

Now I'm bringing that
spirit of investigation

to the world's strangest
sounds and images.

[Creature growling]

We'll analyze each
one with top experts.

- It's a credible case,
it's a credible video.

- [Tony] And pass a
verdict on what it is.

- This video was clearly faked.

- The proof starts now.

[Dramatic music]

Hello, everybody, and welcome
to "the proof is out there."

Lake baikal in Siberia,
Russia is the oldest,

deepest, freshwater
lake on earth.

Over a mile deep, it holds
1/5 of the planet's fresh water.

But is there proof it
could also be holding

a species not of this earth?

Take a look.

[Slow dramatic music]

One night in 2015, a
group of veteran fishermen

is out on a routine trip,

when they come across
something they cannot explain.

A camera on board
captures a strange bright

blue-green light glowing just
below the surface of the lake.

As you can see, when
the camera zooms out,

the light stays put
in the choppy waters

as the ship heads back to shore.

Locals have long
believed strange things

were happening
below the surface here.

- Lake baikal is a
hotbed of ufo activity.

So if there's beings coming
from a different planet,

we would expect
that they might want

to set up a base here on earth.

So a place like lake baikal
could be a very good location.

- [Tony] Journalist mj banias

recalls one reported
encounter in the lake

that lends credence
to this theory.

- There's a strange
story that comes out

of lake baikal in 1982.

Russian divers were
operating under the water

when all of a sudden
they bumped into

these strange creatures.

According to the story,

these creatures were
wearing silvery suits.

They were humanoid
in appearance.

The divers were so
shocked by what they saw

that they tried to
quickly leave the area.

And three died due to
coming up too quickly

from the depths of lake baikal.

[Slow dramatic music]

- [Tony] This blue light
has never been seen again.

So who or what created it?

- There is undoubtedly
animal life down there

that has yet to be found.

Whether that animal
life is alien in nature,

that is still in the
realm of speculation.

- 2/3 of the 2,000
planted animal species

living around lake baikal

can't be found anywhere
else in the world.

So it's already a unique place.

But does this video indicate

there are extraterrestrial
beings camping out there too?

Let's let our experts
have their say.

[Slow dramatic music]

First we have video forensic
analyst, Michael primeau,

check whether the
light could have been

digitally inserted
in the footage.

- It doesn't appear to be cgi.

It doesn't look like something

that was added after the fact.

- [Tony] It's possible
then that we're just looking

at a searchlight from another
unseen boat or an aircraft,

based on how light should
act on a lake such as this,

but physics
professor michio kaku

throws cold water on that idea.

- The surface ripples
in all directions.

Some of the light would
have been reflected

in different angles,
but we see no evidence

of an external light source.

- [Tony] An
external light source

would fan across
the water like this.

But we see nothing
like that here.

That also rules out the
reflection of the moon.

So if it's something
under the lake,

marine biologist,
shea conger examines

if it could be coming from a
man-made underwater vessel.

- You wouldn't have
an artificial light on

during the night if you
wanted to study animals

in their natural environment.

So it seems pretty unlikely

this is some sort of
a research vehicle.

- It's well-known
that bioluminescent

marine life glows at night.

But conger doubts that's
what is happening here either.

- We don't actually have

any bioluminescent
animals in lake baikal.

It's a freshwater body of water.

In addition,
bioluminescent animals

tend to act in kind
of a flashy manner.

We would see a flash of light
and then it would dissipate.

This is a solid light source.

So I can actually
rule out the fact

that it might be
some type of animal.

I conclude that this is some
sort of underwater technology

that's really difficult to
understand or make sense of.

[Slow dramatic music]

- Our verdict?

This is still an
unexplained phenomenon.

We can't say for
sure whether or not

it's from something
extraterrestrial.

But two years
after this incident,

a mysterious mass
death of seals in the lake

also baffled researchers.

So something fishy
is definitely happening.

We'll keep an eye on it.

[Dramatic music]

And ask someone
what bigfoot looks like,

you'd get similar
answers most every time.

But what if you asked
what bigfoot sounds like.

This recording
might be the answer.

[Birds chirping]

This story goes all the way
back to California in 1971.

Al Berry and his
friend Ron morehead

have come to the
Sierra Nevada mountains

to investigate mysterious noises

reported by a bewildered
group of hunters.

What their microphone
picks up at night

becomes the first of
a series of recordings

now known as the Sierra sounds.

[Creature growling]

The recordings capture a
series of guttural grunts, howls,

and growls thought to be
made by an alleged bigfoot.

- The very first sounds
were very aggressive,

could be considered very scary.

But again, they
weren't coming after us.

So we don't know the intent.

We don't know their agenda.

We don't know what it was.

- [Tony] Ron claims that
later he even interacted

with these mysterious creatures

before getting his
first glimpse of one.

[Creature calling] [Ron calling]

- I was responding back to them.

And that was probably
the most unique

bigfoot encounter I've ever had.

- Field researcher cliff
barackman says the Sierra sounds

are the gold standard
of bigfoot vocalizations.

- I've spoken to
several witnesses

that have recorded
this kind of sound.

That says something
about the authenticity

of not only their sighting,
but these sounds.

- [Tony] The recordings
range from guttural growls,

[creature growling]

To wild whoops.

[Creature whooping]

To something that almost
sounds like language.

[Creature chattering]

- There's a retired crypto
linguist from the us Navy.

He's realized that there
are phonemic patterns

that repeat in the sounds.

Those are words.

Sasquatches might be
talking to one another.

- Now here's the thing
about bigfoot sounds.

[Creature growling]

They're easy to fake
and easier to misidentify.

We've heard examples of both.

So let's dial things down a bit

and check in with our experts.

[Slow music]

Zoologist roxy
furman notes that there

are no known
primates in California.

But whatever made
these sounds is big.

- The sound is really loud

and it's quite a low pitch
and frequency, so it travels far.

So it's likely that it
came from a large animal.

- [Tony] Next, we
bring the recordings

to soundscape ecologist,
Dr. Ben gottesman.

- So here we have three phrases.

- [Tony] First gottesman
examines the guttural sound.

[Creature growling]

Next the whooping.

- The second has these
low to high up sweeps.

[Creature whooping]

[Ben whooping]

- [Tony] And
finally the chatter.

[Creature chattering]

- And those almost
sound like words.

- [Tony] The question,
could those come

from any known large
animals native to the area?

- We're now going to listen
to the sound of an elk bugling.

[Elk bugling]

[Creature growling]

[Creature whooping]

[Creature chattering]

The sound of an elk bugling
has much longer tonal signals.

This is not a match.

Now let's listen to the
sounds of a black bear.

[Bear growling]

[Creature growling]

[Creature whooping]

[Creature chattering]

While the frequency
range is similar,

the shape and
complexity of the signals

are totally different.

The Sierra sounds are on a
much more advanced level.

- [Tony] Gottesman also
rules out an assortment

of smaller creatures,
since they lack lung capacity

to create calls
that loud and low.

[Slow dramatic music]

Gottesman also notices that
whatever made these sounds

has an enormous vocal range.

- If this is produced
by a single creature,

there's just a remarkable
acoustic diversity

that this alleged species has.

If they are an animal, I
can't confidently point to one,

especially one that's
native to North America.

- [Tony] So could the sounds
have been made by other humans?

- I do not believe that it is
possible for this to be human,

because it has a great variance

of going to very high pitched

down to a very low
growl, all within seconds.

[Creature growling]

[Creature whooping]

[Creature chattering]

We're not capable of that

without blowing
out our vocal cords.

My conclusion is that they
are real recordings of bigfoot.

And I base that on knowing
how remote that location was

and the impossibility
for another human

or other thing to have
made those sounds.

- The Sierra sounds
recordings are legitimate.

Scientists and even
some linguists point to them

as evidence multiple bigfoots

were communicating
with each other,

as well as with
morehead and Berry.

Our verdict here?

Unidentified animal sounds.

Regardless of what made them,

the bigfoot legend
continues to speak to us.

The big question is,
are we really listening?

[Dramatic music]

A ufo over north Carolina
that appeared to subdivide,

not once, but twice.

Our experts couldn't
agree what that was.

And now we've got
another challenge for them,

a similar phenomenon
in a different place.

[Slow dramatic music]

Warminster, england, about
100 miles west of London.

The passenger in a parked
car notices something

that appears to be a couple
of helicopters or drones.

But then look at this.

They seem to split into
five or six smaller objects

and then perform a series
of coordinated maneuvers.

And it isn't the only video
like this coming out of england.

Almost 300 miles
away in sunderland,

a beachgoer catches
this on camera.

Here two bright orbs loop
across the sky and seem to divide.

It looks kind of like fireworks
at first, but then watch.

The split orbs
proceed to conduct

similar coordinated maneuvers,

just like the warminster video.

They remind journalist
and author Alexis Brooks

of other firsthand accounts.

- In the field of ufology
there is something,

in fact, called ufo mitosis.

Objects that are
seen first as one

and then replicating themselves

and following a
similar trajectory.

This could be what we're seeing.

- [Tony] And taking
it one step further,

Brooks wonders
if the ufos splitting

is part of an actual
biological process.

- I've spoken to
quite a few individuals

who have been
taken on board craft

that believe the
craft is actually alive.

Not just the occupants of
the craft, but the craft itself.

The assumption is that the craft

may in fact be sentient as well.

- During world war
ii, Winston Churchill

suppressed reports
of a ufo sighting

in order to avoid
widespread panic.

Could the splitting ufos be
similar to what he feared?

We turn to our
experts for answers.

[Slow dramatic music]

Military analyst Tim mcmillan

looks at the sunderland footage

and eliminates some
possible explanations.

[Fireworks crackling]

- It's not consistent
with any fireworks

that I'm familiar
with, mainly because

it's doing barrel rolls,

it's leaving a lot of
showering sparks.

- [Tony] Mcmillan also
thinks that no secret weapon

would be tested or
operated over a public beach

out in the open like this.

- It's doing a pretty
impressive show

that would lead me to believe

that we're not looking at
classified military technology.

- [Tony] He also thinks
he can rule out ufos,

if only because of
those odd sparks.

- [Tim] I'm unfamiliar with
anybody who has seen

any ufos showering
sparks and doing barrel rolls.

- [Tony] In recent
years, China has used

elaborate drone swarms to
create synchronized displays.

Could this be something similar?

- Potentially a
drone-type system

that is specifically designed

to provide a fireworks display,

that's able to shower
sparks, and do barrel rolls,

and travel all throughout
the sky like this.

- So it's possible.

But instead of focusing
just on the objects,

astronomer and video
effects designer Marc d'Antonio

looks at these
people on the beach.

- I see what appears to
be people looking at this.

This person looks like he's
looking some other direction.

That would be a pretty
eye-catching thing.

Here's people that are
bent over doing other things.

And that this is
happening without anyone

really paying attention to it,

that is sort of a bit
of a red flag for me.

- [Tony] And if
this video is sort

of a red flag for d'Antonio,
the warminster video

raises that flag and
gives it a good wave.

- Now coming out
from behind the hill,

look, they're suddenly there.

So watch. Boom.

They started out here.

The transition out
of the hill is missing.

It was removed from the
video, probably because

the person who is creating
this put in his little dots

and took those frames
out because he couldn't

get a convincing
exit from the hill.

I think I have to
label this one a hoax.

[Slow music]

- One more thing about
the warminster video.

Just about every time the
orbs get close to the hill,

everything goes blurry.

You see this?

Like there's something to hide.

There is no point
in splitting hairs

over self splitting ufos.

We're concluding
that both videos

are in fact cgi creations.

Gotcha.

[Dramatic music]

More than 65 million years ago.

But what if they still exist

and are running wild
in our neighborhoods?

Sounds wacky, I know,
until you watch this.

[Gentle music]

Christina Ryan is asleep in
her home in palm beach, Florida.

But while her eyes are shut,
her home security camera

is wide awake, and it
captures this wild footage.

[Dramatic music]

The video, just four seconds
long, shows an animal

running across the front
yard in the dead of night.

Let's slow it down
and take another look.

It's hard to tell
exactly what this is,

but there is no doubt
in Christina's mind

about what her camera recorded.

- My immediate
thought is it's a raptor

or some type of a dinosaur.

The way that it's running
and just the entire shape

and everything
indicated to me, dinosaur.

- [Tony] Field researcher
Ken gerhard agrees.

The blurry, but
extremely intriguing clip

screams velociraptor to him too.

- It appears to
have a kind of a long

and powerful sturdy tail.

This is kind of
the classic image

of a small bipedal
theropod type of dinosaur.

- [Tony] As crazy
as it may seem,

gerhard shares that there
are many modern day accounts

of living dinosaurs, just
like Christina Ryan's,

right here in the us of a.

- In southwest Colorado there
have been many sightings,

and they're referred to as
river dinosaurs or river lizards.

These are basically
smaller types

of theropod-like dinosaurs,

just like we're seeing
in the Florida video.

- There are also traditions
in southwest Texas

of tall bipedal lizards
called mountain boomers,

larger versions of a
known smaller species.

These sightings are
fleeting, but they do happen.

So is it that crazy to think
that other dinosaur species

could be alive
and well in Florida?

Let's ask our experts.

[Slow dramatic music]

- Because it's moving
at a high rate of speed

and the encoder is not set
to capture that information

with a high quality,
it's essentially blurring

and elongating some of that

with motion trail
compression artifacting.

The pixel information
that was captured

was not captured with accuracy.

- [Tony] So primeau says
the footage hasn't been altered,

but it still may be
distorted in the camera.

The tail of this creature
may not be what it seems.

So we brought in our
residents zoologist roxy furman,

who reminds us
where this happened

and why that may be a clue.

- Florida is famous
for its exotic pet trade.

And also they obviously
have gators in the region.

The way it moves
could be reptile-like.

It moves kind of side to side
in a this waddle-like manner.

But its body pattern has
no indication of scales

or any different coloration
or variation along the back.

So for me, that kind of
rules out any kind of reptile.

- [Tony] That would eliminate

giant prehistoric
reptiles like raptors too.

So if it isn't a dinosaur,
then what is it?

- What I think is most likely
is a dog that's got loose.

You can see the
tail running behind it.

- [Tony] The tail
looks like a lizard's

due to the picture
distortion primeau identified.

- And it also looks
like there's something

kind of dragging like a leash.

And that would also
explain kind of this white area

that we see around the head,

which would most likely
be a reflective collar.

And it's just kind of running
through someone's garden.

[Slow dramatic music]

- So our verdict.

This is just a dog on the
loose, not a runaway raptor.

But again, thanks
to Florida's laid back

exotic pet regulations,
gigantic lizards

have gotten free in
the sunshine state.

So there's a chance Christina
might capture some footage

of a living dinosaur
descendant any day now.
