of an angel in the clouds?

- [Tony] Around
the globe are videos.

- [Woman] What the heck is this?

- [Tony] Photos and
sounds that defy explanation.

- [Man] Is it some kind
of unidentified object?

- [Man] A plane that was
literally frozen in the air?

- [Tony] What are they?

- [Man] Some sort
of bizarre mutation.

- Extraordinary claims
need extraordinary proof.

- I'm Tony Harris,

and as a journalist
for more than 30 years,

I've followed the facts
where they take me.

Now I'm bringing that
spirit of investigation

to the world's strangest
sounds and images.

(Creature screeching)

We'll analyze each
one with top experts.

- It's a credible case.
It's a credible video.

- [Tony] And pass a
verdict on what it is.

- This video was clearly faked.

- The proof starts now.

(Dramatic music)

Hi, everyone.

Welcome to "the
proof is out there."

Who can forget the baby shark

dance craze from
a few years ago?

Boy, I wish I could.

Well, now there is a
new viral baby shark

video making the rounds

that's far more disturbing
and just as unforgettable.

In February, 2021, a
fishermen named abdulla norin

in Indonesia's east
nusa tenggara province

pulls in a shocking haul.

He takes it home
and records this video.

The footage shows a
deceased baby shark

with eerily human-like facial
features propped up on a sofa.

The strange creature is
about the size of a human hand

and appears to have
a wide gaping mouth,

big round eyes, and a
human-like look of surprise.

- We've heard of deformities
and all species, really,

but this is quite unnerving.

- [Tony] Perhaps
radioactivity is a factor here.

In February 2020,

high contamination
levels were detected

near an Indonesian nuclear
research facility in serpong.

- Chernobyl had marked
increases and their gene mutation

deformities of
animal and plant life.

So the mutant shark, I
could see that being the result

of excess radiation
and nuclear waste.

- A quick warning
that some viewers

might find the following
images disturbing.

In 1990, around 400 deformed
animals were born in chernobyl.

Most deformities were so severe

the animals only
lived a few hours.

Examples of defects
included facial malformations,

extra appendages, abnormal
coloring, and reduced size.

So what exactly is going
on in the waters of Indonesia

that created that strange shark?

Is it nuclear radiation

or is there a more
natural explanation?

We'll turn it over to
our experts to decide.

Biologist Dr. Floyd
Hayes begins his analysis

by trying to determine if
the human-faced shark

is even real.

- It has an unusually
large and wide head.

The eyes do not
look like normal eyes,

and you could also see a
very unnatural-looking line

at the bottom, and
it looks like a mask

that has been placed over
the head of a normal shark.

- [Tony] However, our
zoologist roxy ferman

respectfully disagrees.

- The texture of its skin
looks very real to me.

It would be very hard to
recreate something this well,

I think without noticing
any flaws in texture.

- [Tony] But ferman
and Dr. Hayes can agree

on what wasn't the
cause of this oddity.

- There's been nuclear
waste dumping in the region,

which can cause
mutations in animals.

But if it was something
that had been a mutation

as a result of
radiation or something,

you'd expect to see
lumps across the skin

or other indications
of deformities,

rather than just what
we're seeing in this video.

- [Tony] See the
twisted and gnarled limbs

of the stillborn
piglet from chernobyl.

This is what furman
is talking about.

It's caused by damaged
or broken DNA molecules,

which produced the mutation.

Mutated DNA can
also result in tumors.

If a mutation occurs in an egg,

it can result in a
non-viable embryo

or one with serious
birth defects.

So if it's not nuclear radiation
causing these deformities,

then what is?

Could the shark
simply be too young?

- This is a result
of over-fishing,

it's a result of bycatch.

It looks like a real animal
to me, it's just premature.

So we're seeing an animal
here that's not yet fully formed,

something that's not had
the full phase of development.

- [Tony] Marine biologist
Dr. Shea conger disagrees.

She points out that
a premature shark

would look scrawny
and malnourished.

Instead, she thinks it
suffers from a rare malady.

- This looks to me very typical

of something called cyclopia.

That's where the brainstem
doesn't develop normally.

We'll often see deformities
around the head area,

because organs like our eyes

are really directly
connected to our brain itself.

- [Tony] Cyclopia gets
its name from the cyclops,

the one eyed monster
from Greek mythology.

It occurs in roughly one
in every 250 embryos,

often resulting in stillbirth.

In this case, conger says
that's why this shark's eyes

are on the underside of the head

instead of on top
where they should be.

She agrees with furman
that people are to blame,

but in this case, the
problem isn't overfishing,

it's over dumping.

- Your everyday pollution
from things like plastics

or industrial runoff are much
more common in the ocean

and very readily cause
these types of defects.

So I would say this
shark is just subject

to a type of normal
pollution that resulted in

it not dividing normally

and ending up in
this type of condition.

- So we have a broad
divergence of opinion here.

Our experts aren't
even unanimous

about whether
this thing was real.

We're going to rely on
our marine biologist here.

She specializes in this stuff.

Our verdict, we're
looking at a birth defect

caused by pollution.

Sadly given how badly
we're trashing our oceans,

that just makes the most sense.

Coming up, strange
blue lights over France

and over Brooklyn.

- [Man] Yo, yo, my
heart is beating like mad.

Feel my heart.

- What kind of signals
arare they sending?

(Dramatic music)

- Ufos, whatever they are,

aren't the only strange
things reported in the sky.

Around the world, people
are seeing bizarre blue lights

that some are connecting
to a debunked theory

about the end of the world.

It's an overcast
evening in 2018,

just after Christmas
in New York City,

a place that's seen it all.

But as one resident is
walking to work in Brooklyn

that night, he spots something

even the most jaded
new yorker can't ignore.

- [Cameraman]
Yo, do y'all see this?

- [Tony] The man pulls
out his phone and records

what appears to be
a pulsing blue light

in the airspace
just above the city.

The giant glow turns
the entire sky around it

an eerie shade of blue.

- [Cameraman] Yo, my
heart is beating like mad.

Feel my heart.

- [Tony] The onlooker
can barely keep it together

as he talks to his girlfriend,

who also can't believe
what she's seeing.

- [Girlfriend] I need my
glass because I see this,

but I'm not seeing it.

- [Cameraman]
Yo, I gotta call Leroy

and tell him to see this.

- [Tony] This sighting has
a disconcerting similarity

to other incidents of
immense bluish glows

in the night sky
around the world.

Like this one in Latvia in 2015

or this one in France in 2021.

The proliferation
of videos like these

have helped fuel a widely
debunked apocalyptic theory.

Journalist mj banias explains.

- There's a theory
that exists out there

called the electromagnetic
plasma changeover event.

The empcoe, as it's
come to be known,

is where there will be some
sort of cataclysmic occurrence

where the Poles of the
planet will switch places.

So the south pole will
become the north pole.

Our entire magnetic field
that surrounds our planet

will be thrown into chaos.

Life on this planet
would end as we know it.

- Some who believe
in empcoe think that

when earth's magnetic field
is down during the switch,

portals of cataclysmic
plasma will open up in the sky,

and these videos are sign of
those portals trying to open.

- [Cameraman]
Look at this (beep)!

Look at that (beep)!

- We have this belief
that one of the stages

of the apocalypse are
these mysterious portals

that open up and they
unleash plasma onto the world.

And as the theory goes,
this plasma is blue in color.

- Now earth's magnetic
Poles do regularly switch,

about every 200,000 years,

but there's no evidence
these blue lights

have any connection to that,

not to mention plasma portals.

So what is causing these
sightings around the world?

Time for our experts
to illuminate us.

(Tense music)

Mick west believes the
videos are connected,

but for a different reason.

- There's obviously something
in common going on here.

And I think what's in common
between these blue lights

is they're all caused
by electrical faults,

because when a
transformer blows up,

an arc of electricity makes this

very, very bright
arc of blue light.

- [Tony] In fact, there is
documentation of such an event

on the night of the
video from New York City.

- It was a fire at a transformer
station over in queens.

So that explains exactly
what we're seeing here.

And if you line up this view,

you will see that that's
where the transformer station

actually is just a
bit over the horizon,

and it's lighting up
the clouds just above it.

- [Tony] So how does
an electrical reaction

on the ground cause
such a display in the sky?

According to atmospheric
sciences professor Deanna hence,

the cloud conditions
on these particular nights

plays a significant role.

- This kind of
solid sheet of cloud

would be known
as stratus clouds.

They're very reflective.

It's exceedingly common
that these kinds of low clouds

will reflect the either
ambient or point light sources

that are underneath them.

- [Tony] The low stratus
clouds also greatly amplified

the eerie glow of
these explosions.

- It's not like a mirror

where you get a very
crisp, clean reflection.

Instead, things
are reflecting off of

millions of tiny little drops.

And the result of that is
that that will actually spread

the light out in this
very diffuse way

to be able to be
seen from a distance.

- So our verdict, all of these
videos from around the world

are the result of transformer
explosions on the ground.

There is not, in fact, an
impending plasma apocalypse.

So don't worry, if the
world ends tomorrow,

it will be for some
other reason.

Up next, a
professional rock hunter

makes a startling discovery.

- [Cameraman] Yeah,
it's moving towards us,

like real fast
moving towards us.

- Will this encounter
be too close for comfort?

about lake superior

and its long history
of wicked storms,

shipwrecks and
anomalous sightings.

Well add this to the list.

A close encounter between a
Great Lakes freighter at a ufo.

June 2019, Erik rintamaki
is in search of a unique rock

called yooperlites
that he discovered.

It can only be found
using a specific black light.

- I'm probably one
of the most famous

rock hounds in the world.

- [Tony] Suddenly very
different glowing lights

in the air over the
lake catch his eye.

Let's push in.

It looks like two
objects are flying

perfectly in line
with each other,

or they could be two lights
on a large object we can't see.

- [Erik] This is
the craziest thing

I've ever seen in my life.

- [Tony] The lights make
no noise, and watch this,

one passes directly over a ship.

- [Erik] It's a thousand
foot iron ore freighter,

to give you some reference
on the size with that video.

- When Erik checks
in with the freighter,

they report that they
didn't see or hear

anything out of the ordinary.

Erik watches the orbs
for almost two hours,

and then they seem
to start watching him.

(Dramatic music)

- [Erik] Yeah, it's
moving towards us.

Like real fast
moving towards us.

- [Tony] Author Alexis
Brooks has heard of ufos

trying to make a
connection with humans.

- This we see quite
often in a ufo footage

where the light will
become more illuminated,

almost as if there's a
communication going on

between this object and the
individual that's watching it.

So this to me is extraordinary.
Absolutely extraordinary.

- In a prior episode, we
discussed the sighting

of an alleged ghost
ship on lake superior.

That turned out to be a
mirage of a nearby island.

Is there some other
optical illusion at play here?

Let's check in with
our ace video analyst.

Regular viewers will
know Michael primeau

as our video forensic analyst.

- I did not detect any
evidence to support

that this was added
into the video recording,

that this information was
created by computer imagery.

- [Tony] So the video is real,

but primeau says the
camera's image quality is poor.

- We have a camera that's
essentially not recording

as accurately as we would expect

when you point it into the sky

and try to capture
this information.

- [Tony] Next, astronomer
and video effects designer

Marc d'Antonio
examines whether the orbs

could be something manmade.

- One keeps fading in and out.

We're not seeing
any blinking lights

that are mandated by the faa,

so we know that
they're not aircraft.

It's not impossible that
they might be drones.

However, one thing
to know about drones

is they actually have
their own set of lights,

and an orange light is
not typically one of them.

- [Tony] And note that
Erik tracked these orbs

far longer than any
consumer grade drone can fly.

Aviation analyst Tim
mcmillan wonders

if it might be the most
obvious culprit of all.

- The planet Venus is very
commonly mistaken for ufos

because at certain
times of the year,

it can be extremely bright.

However, this object is giving
off kind of an orange glow,

and frankly it appears
to be much larger

than even Venus at its
largest points would look.

- D'Antonio thinks the
object's orange glow

is the key evidence.

- To me, this object
matches a sky lantern profile.

It'll get dimmer and
brighter, dimmer and brighter,

and it'll start to flicker
and finally go out.

- [Tony] But what
could cause the objects

to seem to approach and
then retreat from the beach?

- Cell phone camera
footage is really hard,

especially at night
we have a black sky

and a singular
point like-object,

and What'll happen is the
camera will try to focus on it.

It's called focus
hunting, or focus seeking,

and then we'll go
big, get bloated,

and then shrink down
again as it tries to focus,

and somebody could
mistake that for an object

racing toward them
and then racing away.

- [Tony] But just because
the camera can't hold focus

on the orbs doesn't
explain what they are.

And Erik and his clients
saw them for over two hours,

far longer than sky
lanterns can stay aloft.

- It is categorically a ufo
in that it's unidentified.

- This was not a hoax.

And while it might
not be an alien craft,

it remains a genuine
unidentified object.

What's for certain
is that Erik rintamaki

is still out there hunting
yooperlite rocks, and now ufos.

he was touched by an angel

in the clouds.

- [Cameraman] This is my angel.

- Will his video
make you a believer?

- In one of our first episodes,

we showed you images of
what some people thought

were devil faces in the clouds.

But now one man says
he's got incredible footage

not of devils, but of angels.

Could these be the real deal?

It's a beautiful clear day
in Camden, south Carolina

in October of 2016.

Welder Corey harrod is
leaving his wife's office

when he spots something
overhead so stunning

he starts to live
streaming it to Facebook.

- Nobody will believe
me if I didn't do this live,

but I want you to look
at this cloud in the sky.

Check that out.

- [Tony] Hovering just
above a nearby building

is a cloud that looks
unmistakably familiar.

- [Corey] Is that not
an angel or what?

Look, I mean, you can
almost like see a face.

- [Tony] It also
appears to have large,

perfectly symmetrical wings.

As Corey marvels
at this cloud figure,

it doesn't seem to
move from this spot,

and there's barely
another cloud around.

- [Corey] I don't know
that I've ever seen

with my own two
eyes this type of cloud.

This is my angel.

- With normal clouds, you
would expect to see dissipation,

but this image was persistent.

What's interesting is this
gentleman apparently had

a tough time with an
incident that had happened

and was perhaps looking for a
sign or needing some support.

- [Tony] This sighting wasn't
just transformative for Corey

at a vulnerable
time in his life,

it was spiritually
inspiring to many

of the over 9 million people
who watched his video.

- All right, hope you all
enjoyed it as much as I did.

- The same year as
Corey's sighting, a gallup poll

found that 72% of Americans
believe angels exist.

So is the video proof that they
are indeed watching over us?

Let's have our analysts
test their faith in this idea.

(Tense music)

First we determined
if the cloud formation

is particularly unusual.

- The thin wispy characteristics
of this particular cloud

indicates that it's likely
made of ice crystals.

The light that's reflecting
from it and passing through it

isn't being reflected
as effectively

as if this was a
cloud made of water.

This is actually a process
known as sublimation,

where the ice crystals are
turning back into water vapor

and thus becoming invisible.

So that kind of differential
around the cloud

can lead to pieces
of it going away

and forming interesting shapes.

- [Tony] And as to how this
cloud was able to stay still

and maintain its angelic shape.

- There would need to be a
few different things happening.

For one, that the winds at
that altitude are relatively calm

and so that the cloud is not
being moved away quickly.

- [Corey] I don't
even think it's moved.

- Another factor would be
that there is enough moisture

in that layer of the
atmosphere so that

the different cloud
particles don't disappear

back into water
vapor very quickly.

- [Tony] Professor hence
checks the weather conditions

on that day to see
if they are consistent

with what we see in the video.

- There's actually a pretty
broad high pressure region

over the eastern United States.

The winds within a high pressure
region are often very calm.

So that would actually
set up the conditions

to being calm
enough that the cloud

is able to hang around
for a long period of time.

- Our verdict, this sighting
was a naturally forming cloud,

but it is not our place to say

whether it was caused
by divine intervention.

Those who believe in angels

still see sightings
like these as a sign,

and we could all use
a little help from above.
