was literally frozen in the air.

- [Man 3] Some sort
of bizarre mutation.

- Extraordinary claims
need extraordinary proof.

And as a journalist
for more than 30 years,

I've followed the facts
where they take me.

Now I'm bringing that
spirit of investigation

to the world's strangest
sounds and images.

(Creature shrieking)

We'll analyze each
one with top experts.

- It's a credible case,
it's a credible video.

- [Tony] And pass a
verdict on what it is.

- This video was clearly faked.

- The proof starts now.

(Suspenseful music)

Good evening, and welcome
to "the proof is out there."

Throughout the ages,

sea creatures have
been featured prominently

in Chinese mythology.

But when you see
this recent video,

you might think it just proved

the stories are more than myth.

With a length of
nearly 4,000 miles,

the yangtze is the
third-longest river in the world.

Its waters are home to
several unique aquatic species.

But in September 2019, a
viral video captures an image

of something unprecedented.

Taken from a ferry dock,

the video captures what
looks like a mysterious creature

slithering along the
surface of the water.

You can't see a head,

but that sure looks
like a powerful tail.

And eyeballing its size

relative to its
distance from the dock

and the height of this
man observing the scene,

it appears to be at
least 10 feet long.

Once the video goes viral,

it racks up tens of
millions of views,

and a new legend is born.

- People dubbed the creature
the three gorges water monster.

Some have speculated
that this creature

could actually be a giant
water snake or eel of some kind

that has mutated and become
huge thanks to pollution.

- [Tony] Field
researcher Ken gerhard

has extensively studied
many of the legendary beasts

said to inhabit the
waterways of China.

- In this part of the world,

there are legends of
mythical serpent-like creatures.

You have the dragons
known as the loong,

which are described as
huge and serpentine and scaly

with four stubby limbs,
each with five claws.

There's also the naga,
described as dark and serpentine,

up to 40 feet in length.

- So, what is this
mysterious object

slithering through the water?

It doesn't seem to be tied
to anything towing it along.

What does that mean?

Let's check with our experts.

(Pensive music)

First, we take the video
to our marine biologist,

Dr. Shea conger.

- What we see in this
video is what appears to be

a pretty large animal
that appears to have

some sort of a tail that's
moving back and forth.

- [Tony] Dr. Conger's first
guess is that this might be

some kind of large eel.

But the largest known eel,

coincidentally called
the European conger,

has never been
sighted in these waters.

- I don't think
there's species of eel

that are as large
as this in the area.

- [Tony] Conger
says when it comes to

endemic yangtze river creatures,

there are plenty
of cool candidates.

- One of the unique
animals to the area

is the giant salamander.

It can get up to six feet long

and weigh over a hundred pounds.

But I don't think this
is a giant salamander

because it has a lot of
irregularities on the top of it.

And if this were a
type of salamander,

we would expect this would
be kind of a smooth animal

with a smoother, longer
tail moving through the water.

- [Tony] Dr. Conger wonders

if this might be the
elusive Chinese sturgeon,

which can reach
lengths of 16 feet.

- They evolved over a
100 million years ago,

so they're, in essence,
living prehistoric animals.

However, sturgeon
have really defined tail fins

that would be sticking
above the surface of the water.

And because I don't
see that type of fin or tail,

I can conclude this
probably isn't a sturgeon.

- [Tony] So, could
it just be a hoax?

We ask our resident
video forensic expert,

Michael primeau.

- I don't see any major
splicing that took place

throughout this object as
it's swimming, if you will.

I do not believe that this
recording has been doctored

or manipulated
with malicious intent.

- [Tony] But primeau digs
deeper and finds a telltale sign

that things may
not be as they seem.

- When we look at the ripples

as this object is traveling
through the water,

there is no definitive pattern

as it's traveling
through the water

that you would expect to see

from something that we
know is like a fish or a shark.

There are some
unnatural behaviors.

Upon further investigation,
we came across this recording

that is allegedly a
dark-colored rubber airbag.

- [Tony] Primeau
suggests that's not a tail

propelling a creature
through the water,

just the strong yangtze current

moving one end of the
big airbag back and forth.

- So, it is
possible that this is

what we were actually
seeing in the river

and it wasn't actually
some sort of river monster.

- So, about the theory that
the yangtze river monster

was created by pollution,
turns out that's true.

But it's not an overgrown snake,

it's a long black,
rubber industrial air bag,

likely discarded by
a nearby shipyard.

But still, there
is a lesson here.

More and more of the
yangtze's unique aquatic life

is going extinct due to
pollution and overfishing.

Up next, a sickening sound.

(High-pitched humming)

- Not only were we
subject to an attack,

but I think it's still ongoing.

- [Tony] Is this what's
making us officials fall ill?

(Suspenseful music)

Are audio waves secretly
being used as weapons?

That's the question a growing
group of American diplomats,

spies, and government
employees are asking

after falling ill in
Cuba and elsewhere.

They believe they are
victims of covert attacks

perpetrated by
unknown assailants

using unknown technology.

In late-2016, several
diplomats and other employees

stationed at the us
embassy in Havana, Cuba,

report feeling ill after hearing

a strange high-pitched noise.

According to the
associated press,

this recording
could be that noise.

(High-pitched humming)

The sound is a
high-pitched whine

that seems to
undulate, even writhe,

which produces a
nails-on-the-chalkboard effect.

Similar attacks are later
reported by us officials

in China, Austria, and Russia.

Marc polymeropoulos,
a senior CIA official,

believes he was
targeted one night

while on official
business in Moscow.

- This was by far the
most terrifying experience.

The room was spinning,
I couldn't stand up

without falling
down, I felt nauseous.

I had an incredible
case of tinnitus,

ringing in my ears, a headache,

and so I knew something
was seriously wrong.

- [Tony] The sudden
onset of peculiar side effects

baffles us officials.

Studies later show the
injuries resemble a concussion,

but with no signs of impact.

- Not only were we
subject to an attack,

but I think it's still ongoing,

and that poses a lot
of serious questions

for the us government.

- What was believed
was going on at the time

was diplomats were
believing they were attacked

by some sort of Sonic weapon.

Eventually, this is
named Havana syndrome.

- [Tony] If the Havana syndrome

is caused by some
sort of Sonic weapon,

it wouldn't be the first time

that sound has been weaponized.

- This is something
that goes far back

in a more rudimentary form,

using blaring loud music
in different war zones.

Now, as technology's advanced,

there's been a lot of
different hypothetical

and actual practical
operational platforms

that use sound as a weapon.

- [Tony] The Sonic weapon
most commonly deployed today

is the long-range
acoustic device,

which has been recently
used by police departments

to break up major
protests and riots.

- The lrad system was
designed for crowd dispersal

in a non-lethal way.
(High-pitched beeping)

- These kind of weapons
are only advancing.

Sound is being
weaponized more and more.

- [Tony] So, folks, this is
scary stuff and very real.

What is that sound
(High-pitching humming)

Recorded in Havana?

- Did it make us personnel sick?

Or was there some other
weapon or force responsible?

Let's ask our experts.

Is the sound a recording
of a Sonic weapon?

We asked our audio
expert, Dr. Ben gottesman.

You can see most of
the energy is concentrated

between two and three kilohertz.

(High-pitched beeping)

This is a really sensitive spot

when it comes to human hearing.

It's why baby cries grab
our attention so much.

Whereas in the sound
released by the associated press,

(high-pitched humming)

We see that the frequency
range is much higher,

between six and eight kilohertz.

And so, the frequency
ranges of these two sounds

do not line up.

- [Tony] But could this sound
be some other Sonic weapon?

Gottesman has his doubts.

- And I've worked in
some tropical locations

and there were times
where I would hear

very similar piercing calls.

This sound is produced by
a species of tropical cricket

called the indies
short-tailed cricket.

(Crickets chirping)

As you can see, the frequency
range is a perfect overlap

and it also has similar
harmonic characteristics,

so I'm saying that it
is a really clean match.

- [Tony] So, the sound
is just chirping crickets,

coincidentally
recorded at the moment

people were getting sick.

So, could Havana
syndrome have been caused

by a different kind of
weapon, one people can't hear?

- In the medical studies
that that have been done,

including the national
academy of sciences report,

a microwave weapon is
the leading culprit right now,

and that's based on the
injuries that have been observed

in different patients.

- [Tony] Way back in
1962, an American scientist,

Allan frey, suggested
a microwave weapon

could be used to
raise the temperature

inside a person's ear
by a millionth of a degree.

That would be enough to
cause a victim to feel dizzy,

nauseous, or experience
pressure in their heads.

And get this: Frey later
lectured on the topic

to the Soviet academy
of sciences in Moscow.

So, could the Russians be
behind some new technology?

- While the injuries
are consistent

with exposure to
microwave weapons,

it's important to know
that these type of weapons

are unknown to exist.

So, frankly, it
really is a mystery.

There's enough physical
and medical evidence

that it does appear
to be a weapon,

but what is causing
it is truly an unknown.

It's a real concern.

- It's a split decision.

Our verdict?

The sound that was
alleged to have caused

the Havana syndrome is
an indies short-tailed cricket

coincidentally making
that noise at the same time

as the attack.

But Havana syndrome itself

is still an unexplained
phenomenon.

More than 130 us officials
have now been stricken.

Recent incidents have even
involved white house officials

in our own nation's capital.

This appears to be the
moment dad senses the car.

And in about .78 seconds,
he Springs into action

and pulls the
children to safety.

Incredible.

Similar displays of
incredible parental reflexes

have popped up recently,

like in this video
from Vietnam in 2019.

(Horns beeping)

Just watch that again.

The woman is knocked
off the motorbike,

but still has the presence
of mind to grab this child

just before she's crushed
by the oncoming truck.

It's almost too fast to measure.

Author Alexis Brooks
says it might not just be

fast reflexes at work here,
but the power of premonition.

- One of the theories
that has been postulated

by noted author Dr. Larry dossey

says that we all essentially
have a premonition instinct.

But particularly in
the case of parents,

where there is a unique
bond with the child,

premonitions can
be even more likely.

- [Tony] But even
if these parents

had a premonition of danger,

it's even more astonishing
how quickly their bodies

were able to react in
a fraction of a second.

- It's said that typically
we only access

a portion of our power,
perhaps about 65%.

But there is a phenomenon
called hysterical strength.

- [Tony] There are
dozens of anecdotal stories

of humans in a moment of panic

summoning extraordinary
strength to lift cars

or other extremely heavy objects

off of trapped individuals,

including a mother
in Georgia in 1982,

who lifted a Chevy
impala off her trapped son.

- When something
is happening so quick

where there's no time to react,

there is a rush of adrenaline

that pushes us to
do the unfathomable,

and I think that might be
something that we saw here.

- Look, scientists are divided

on the existence
of this phenomena

because it's nearly impossible

to test emergency
situations in a controlled lab.

However, these
videos might be proof

of either parental esp
or superhuman reflexes.

To be sure, we
call in the experts.

(Pensive music)

- Although it's
entirely possible

and conceivable to
manipulate events like this

using sophisticated
software technology,

I don't see or
detect any evidence

to support that that's
what was done here.

- [Tony] So, the video is
legit, but physicist michio kaku

doubts it's proof
of a premonition.

- Sometimes we have premonition

that an accident will happen,
and then sometimes it does,

in which case you think
that maybe you're psychic.

Most premonitions
are false alarms.

But one time out of 10,

maybe it does prepare
you for an emergency.

So, this ability of ours

to "predict the future
by having a premonition"

is very selective.

We forget all the misses.

- [Tony] So, if this
wasn't the result

of a true premonition, perhaps
these lightning-fast reflexes

are related to
hysterical strength.

- Usually, when you
perform something,

your prefrontal
cortex acts as a check

and says, "slow down, do
it this way, do it that way."

However, in an emergency

where split-second
decisions have to be made,

a lotta the prefrontal cortex's
decisions are overruled.

All of a sudden, you take risks.

Yes, muscles will tear.

Yes, you're gonna suffer
damage, but you do it anyway

because the adrenaline
says you can do it.

- Our verdict.

While we can prove or disprove

these parents had a premonition,
it was certainly adrenaline

that gave them
extraordinary reflexes

at just the right time.

Up next, is the us
military using alien tech?

One foreign government
says this video proves it.

These were all once
top-secret weapons programs.

Makes you wonder what
other secret technology

is the us military
working on now.

And could they be working
with allies from another planet?

According to one
foreign government,

this video proves it.

September 2018, the
mediterranean sea.

- [Tony] An f-18 is
approaching the deck

of the carrier USS Ford.

It looks like a pinpoint
precise landing.

But then...

- As it goes to touch down,

we actually see a
triangular-shaped ufo,

like something that would
be right out of an alien movie.

And you're like,
"whoa! (Laughing)

"Let's rewind that."

- [Tony] The object
definitely doesn't look like

any known military aircraft.

And that triangle shape,
that means something.

- Historically, ufo's have
been certain types of shapes.

You've got cigar ufos,
saucer ufos, and triangle ufos.

So, the fact that
there was a triangle ufo

on this aircraft carrier,

that really sent the ufo
community into a frenzy.

- [Tony] The USS Ford video
becomes more than clickbait.

It becomes international news.

The Iranian state
media declares it proof

that the us is plotting with
aliens to take over the world.

And even when this official
version of the video surfaces,

same plane, same ship, but
no ufo, people aren't convinced.

- Same are wondering,
"hmm, is this original video

"really the original video?

"Or did they edit out
the triangular-shaped ufo

"to keep us from knowing

"that they actually are
harboring alien spacecraft?"

- The us military's
so-called black budget

for military research
and covert ops

is estimated at about
$50 billion a year.

Is this video proof of
your tax dollars at work?

Science writer and forensic
video analyst Mick west

notices two things right away.

First, look at those shadows.

- [Mick] The sun's
rays are all parallel.

They're all the same angle,
like that helicopter angle.

But if we go to here, it
actually needs to rotate to the-

so, they've put the
shadow at the wrong angle.

These all have
an angle like this,

and these have
an angle like that.

- [Tony] Then he
stabilized the footage,

keeping the deck fixed.

- We can see the object
kind of jiggles around.

Everything else is
staying nice and solid,

but this is doing a
little dance on the deck,

which is because they
haven't properly registered

the motion tracking with
the deck at a sub-pixel level.

- [Tony] Oh, and
just one more thing.

- It looks not just remarkably,

but identically (laughing)
Like a toy model kit

of what is called the tr-3e.

This particular
aircraft is identical

to the model that is for sale.

- Mcmillan says videos like
this aren't all fun and games.

When they get exploited
by hostile governments,

they sow mistrust and
anger towards the us military.

That's a common tactic
in information warfare.

So, our verdict?

Hoax, and perhaps not
such a harmless hoax.
