Every location we stay at

is unique in its own way.

When the crew and I were visiting the San Juan Islands,

we stayed at one of the greatest getaway locations

in the Pacific Northwest, Doe Bay Resort and Retreat.

Nestled on the far eastern edge of Orcas Island,

this long-standing establishment has a colorful history,

and offers a rustic yet charming experience for anyone

who has the chance to visit.

The crew and I spent a week enjoying

its incredible amenities.

So here is a tour of their grounds

and some of the fun we had during our stay.

What are you going to get, Coyote?

I think I'm going to get the wilted kale,

because I like kale.

It's very healthy. - OK.

And a lot of these other things, I

have no idea what they are, so you

always go with what you know.

- Hey, hey! - Thanks, buddy.

Here you go.

OK, what I have here is root beer in a chalice.

Let's see.

Oh, wow.

That is some good root beer right there.

Mm. - Right?

- That is good oyster. - Right?

All right, I've got to switch it up.

So they're out of the kale, which was my first choice.

I'm going to have to go outside of my comfort zone here.

And tomorrow morning, we're going to tour the grounds.

What's going on, Coyote Pack?

Welcome to another edition of "On Location," Coyote's Crib,

where we explore a house that I don't actually own.

Come on inside!

This one is, well, not quite as big as some of the others

you've seen.

But that's OK, because we're staying

at Doe Bay Resort, where they don't

really want you to be inside.

They want to be outside.

But before we get there, let's take a tour!

Check out this kitchen!

Where is it?

Oh, I guess this is it.

It's got a sink.

And it's so big, I can barely fit in it.

OK, well, what else you got?

Let's look at the bathroom!

Bathroom!

Oh, man!

Look at all this space!

This is like a Jacuzzi closet, maybe.

Yeah, I can barely fit in here too.

All right, let's go upstairs!

Now, we've got four people jammed into this little,

tiny space, myself, Mark, Mario, and the .

Up here is where Mario and I sleep.

Watch your head on the ceiling.

It's really low.

You guys aren't sharing a bed, are you?

Hey!

There's Mario!

Look at this. That's Mario's bed.

Oh!

You just hit your head, dude?

And back here, this is my bed!

Pretty sweet!

This is what we call the hangout loft.

You guys are bunk beds.

Super awesome.

This is our light.

I don't know how it turns on.

We haven't-- oh, right there by your arm.

- Just don't [inaudible]-- - Got it!

Yay!

Yeah, we hit our heads on this beam, like, every single time.

You wake up in the middle of night after having a nightmare,

you're like, whack!

Whack your head on it.

Pretty crazy.

Let's check out Mark's room now.

Downstairs we go!

Watch your step.

Now, sometimes "On Location," I get the big room.

Sometimes-- no, wait.

Mario doesn't ever get the big room.

Usually, it's me.

Sometimes, it's Mark.

And in this incredible mansionous spread,

we decided to give Mark the big room.

Come on.

I can literally just touch every wall at the same time.

This is actually pretty comfortable.

At least it's brushing its teeth, though.

This is why you come here.

Oh, yeah.

Actually, in all fairness, the places that you stay here

are incredible.

You can do everything from camping.

They have yurts.

You can stay in cabins.

You can stay in a giant cottage.

You can stay in a small cottage.

You can actually stay in a tree house.

What?

Yes, a real live house built in a tree.

We're going to show you guys that in just a few seconds,

but let's go over here to the horseshoes.

There's a robin!

What's going on, River?

So this is the Garden.

And what's so important about the Garden

is that all the food that comes from here

ends up on the table at the restaurant.

So what we're going to do now is take a tour of the garden.

Now, can I try any of the food in here?

- Whatever you want. - Yes!

OK, let's do it!

Do you have a favorite vegetable that grows in here?

Yes.

Kale would be my-- - Oh!

Can we try the kale? I love kale.

- Let's go try the kale, yeah. - Let's go find some kale.

Yeah, let's go right over here.

Hey, where's the kale?

Over this direction.

I love kale.

Kale's like my favorite [inaudible]...

- Sup, man? - You hungry?

Hope you brought your appetite.

Oh, shoot. That's a downhill.

Yeah.

So what they like, Coyote, is to take-- slip your hand

right underneath like that.

The Garden and the chickens are absolutely awesome.

is going to be the tree house.

Coyote, this is like a tree mansion.

Look at what it says.

Be careful."

Look at that, climbing over a limb there.

This may be the coolest tree house I have ever seen.

And there's a Sasquatch!

Whoa!

All right, River, this is one pretty epic spot to lodge in.

Now, what does it take to come and stay

here in the tree house?

Well, anybody can come and stay at the tree house.

It's on our reservation system.

You can book online, or you can call the resort.

The one thing I would say about the tree house

is it doesn't have a kitchen, so if you're

looking for that amenity, then it's

probably not the place for you.

Short of that, this is a place you will stay

and you will never forget it.

It's an amazing experience and it'll be a unique one.

It's a tree house toilet.

And you can see outside.

No, I upgraded to the tree house.

Well, I think at this juncture, I've take--

looks like Sasquatch is taking the nap now.

All right, let's go explore the rest of the grounds.

Well, I think it's fair to say that the Brave Wilderness

team and I have stayed in some pretty cool places,

but nothing tops the experience that we had at Doe Bay.

Now, we are on location in Haines, Alaska,

filming episodes of "Breaking Trail."

I'm gearing up with the waterproof cameras

because we're heading out on this raft

to head down river and look for bald eagles.

This is going to be one awesome adventure.

Right up here in this tree, just staring down at us.

Got it!

That was awesome.

Nice shot.

All right, our first epic eagle shot of the day.

Yes!

All right.

It's windy and it's cold.

The thing you don't want to do in this situation

is ever fall into the water.

As you can see, I've got my life-preserver on.

Hopefully, I stay in the raft most of the time,

but you guys know me.

If I see something exciting, I get

out of the raft in a hurry, ker-splash,

Coyote is in the drink.

- Come on in. - We good?

Sit and spin.

Sit and spin!

OK.

You'll see as we get up here, near all these dead trees, you

have all this debris, the driftwood

that's washed up in all of these sediment deposits.

Perfect spot for these birds to hang out and look for food.

On to find those eagles.

I did watch "The River Wild" before we came out on this trip

just to get myself ready.

Woo!

There's Joe, our guide.

Joe. - Yep.

Joe knows these rivers better than anybody,

don't you, Joe?

Yep, this is my passion right here.

Hang on!

Eagles come in many shapes and sizes.

We've seen a lot of juveniles since we've been here.

Those eagles are mostly dark in coloration.

What we're after is the full-grown adults

with that brilliant white head and the white tail.

Nothing is more iconic in the world

of raptors than a bald eagle.

It truly is something to be amazed by.

We're going to hop off on land here, take a little walk

around, do some exploring.

Maybe find some bones and keep our eyes peeled for eagles.

All right, let's do it.

Try and find some tracks.

Yeah.

Here, check this out.

Look at that.

It's a bone of some sort.

And it's big.

I'm guessing that probably belonged to a moose

at some point.

You think

Uh, probably.

There aren't many deer in this area, and I doubt it's a bear.

But, yeah, pretty well worn.

It's not a moose skull.

But let's keep searching.

We'll find something good on these plateaus.

Man down.

That's what happens when you get into sticky situations.

You rolling?

Yeah.

boot!

Austin, our "On Location" photographer,

just got stuck in the sink mud.

Yep!

You all right?

Oh, yeah.

Man, that stuff is crazy.

Look how [inaudible] that is.

Woo!

I looked up, and before you knew it, you

were almost knee-deep in it.

Watch yourself, Mark. You're walking right into it.

Oh, yeah, I am. Wow.

Look at that.

Oh!

That's crazy.

Wow.

Check that out.

Those are grizzly prints right there.

You can the paw pads right up here.

And this track specifically, you can see the marks

where the claws went in.

And the way to identify that it's a grizzly track

is you've got about an inch between the paw

pads and the actual claw marks.

Watch your back, guys.

We are definitely in grizzly territory.

All right.

All right, back on the boat.

Heading down river, looking for eagles.

Rolling. - You rolling?

Yeah.

OK, we've got a mature bald eagle,

right up here in this tree.

Look at how gorgeous that bird is.

We're going to get a little closer to it.

See if you can get a shot.

Right there, just staring down at us.

How majestic is that bird.

There it is.

All right! Cool!

Nice.

Nice.

Our first mature eagle of the day.

OK, now, we just got to find a spot where we can stop the raft

and get some great shots.

So just up here to my left, we've got two

eagles right on the shoreline.

Filming eagles is not easy.

They can be very skittish.

While moving as slow as you possibly can,

stay stealthy, set up the 600 millimeter lens,

and try to get the shot.

We've been on the river for hours,

looking for this one opportunity to actually film these eagles.

I think this is it.

I'm so excited.

OK.

So right now, we're trying to sneak in close on the eagles.

Mark's got the 600 millimeter.

We're trying to stay in a straight line

so that the animals only think it's

one human sneaking up on them.

Careful.

This is sink mud.

Running speed.

Wow.

That's cool.

Now, the two eagles that we're looking at,

that is pretty much the king and queen of what's considered

the eagle council grounds.

And in the winter, there will be over 1,000 eagles

right here where these two rivers converge.

The water doesn't actually freeze,

so it's like an eagle buffet line

of eating all these salmon that are still swimming upstream.

OK, so right now, we're going to slowly try to move

in and get an even better shot.

Look at how the ground is moving.

I hope he doesn't sink.

He's gonna get up on that ridge-line.

Get the shot.

Come on, get the shot.

This is probably about as close as we're

going to be able to get without having to forge the river.

I'm trying to film eagles, man.

It's not easy.

They're still quite a ways off.

I'm trying to look to see how I might

be able to get even closer.

This is pretty cool.

Right now, we have found an eagle nest

right up here in the tree.

Mark's filming it, getting a pretty good shot.

We can't determine if it's an active or an inactive nest.

I can't see if there's any chicks in there.

We have two adults that are hanging out in this area,

assuming that that is their throne.

Cool.

Good.

OK, so we're changing up the strategy just a touch here.

Yep.

Mark's going to be up front, operating the 600 millimeter

from the front of the raft.

We've got an eagle up here in the trees.

We're going to try to do a drift-by and get an epic shot.

You ready for this?

All right, load it up.

Let's do it.

This is fun chasing eagles.

Yeah.

Got to have the right gear, that's for sure.

Yeah, it's definitely a learning curve.

We've never, you know, tried to get shots like this before.

This certainly isn't an animal that I can catch and present

in front of the cameras.

It's kind of like this constant treasure hunt

where you're looking for the next great opportunity

to catch a shot.

And coming up right here, we've got a mature eagle up

in the tree, so we're going to try to just

drift by and get a shot.

And maybe it'll fly just as we're passing underneath it.

It's the closest we've been to a bird all day long.

Mark's perched up on this log and he's getting the shot.

Got it.

I'm pretty sure.

Oh, yeah. Look at that.

- Bang. - Nice.

See, we cut that together with Mario's shot,

because Mario's got tree.

It goes-- woosh-- right pass you.

It zooms out, and you turn, and you go, got it!

That's awesome. Nice shot.

Boom.

Spending the day out here on the rivers, chasing down eagles,

and we finally got the epic shot.
