I'm Glenn Stearns. To prove it,
last year, I made a bet

that I could go undercover, build
a million dollar business in 90
days.

I'm too old. I have to go to the
hospital.

It was the hardest thing I've
ever done in my life. Woo! Whoa!

Three successful entrepreneurs
are stepping forward

to take on the same challenge.
To keep things fair,

they're going undercover in
cities they've never been to

with only a hundred dollars, a
cell phone with no contacts,

and an old truck.
All they'll have

are the business principles they
used to become successful.

At the end of 90 days,

all three businesses will be
independently evaluated.

If it's a penny short,
I'll put in a million dollars.

Win or lose, the people who get
me there will be rewarded.

and it really is the first
time that people in Tacoma

get a good understanding of what
Rooted is all about.

It's really important that I sell a
ton of our shots,

so I can further prove that Rooted
is a real viable business

and start infusing my startup with
another round of funding

from some
more potential new investors.

I'm trying to make this initial
seed
money go the full distance.

And so far, I've spent it on
produce, juicer, bottles, labels,

merch, art supplies, and the entire
setup for our pop-up tomorrow.

And I have an investor who is
volunteering

and he has set up some volunteers.

I'll tell you what,
I have a better appreciation

for people who make food items.

This is why I do need to get into a
commercial kitchen though.

I didn't get a whole lot of sleep
last night

because of this homeless person
that, you know,

was really having a hard time last
night.

There was way too much noise below
my window.

In Fresno, it's very interesting
and beautiful

and really where I wanna be.
The issue here

is that there's, you know, really
big problems with homelessness,

and mess, and dirt, and trash.
It's almost unbearable.

Despite some minor disasters like
Chris's crew

screwing up with the deli cases not
fitting,

I've got renovations going on at
Shep's Club full speed ahead.

The grocery store and the to-go bar
are only 10% done.

They're painted and they're cleaned
up but that's it.

The hotel has 24 rooms
and it's about 30% done.

The deli cases and the sandwich
stations are actually on site.

I would say that we are
probably 50% finished.

The new coffee shop, while it's only
5% done,

is going to move along a lot quicker
than the inside of Sheps

because it's on its own.
It's a separate space,

so workers aren't tripping over one
another. OK. Can I get my trash?

Wait. What happened?

Who did?

So you put the garbage out and they
lit the trash can on fire?

What the heck? No, this is not OK.

Did someone call the police?
I don't know.

Someone decided to light
the garbage can on fire

at the back of the building
with tenants in it.

And I think that they could've
burned the damn building down.

I'm really bummed out right now.

Although I am happy that we didn't
get burnt to a crisp.

Just as important
as everything else,

is figuring out a way to clean up
the area around the inn.

If I can't get this area cleaned up,
I'm gonna run the risk

of people not just wanting to not
invest in the area,

but no one's gonna wanna invest in
Shepherd's Inn.

And that'll ruin my plans of
getting a million-dollar business.

No one else sees the value of this
area and the potential, but I do.

It's really rough around the edges,
but it's ripe for redevelopment.

If I could just get this place
cleaned up,

it would be a game changer.

My goals right now are to ramp up
renovations

and hire someone to run the coffee
shop traunch.

in a great manager,

executor, team leader.

So what I wanna talk to you about is
the consistency

and that we have a system in place.

The business principle here is
identify the killers.

The killers are the people that
actually achieve the dream.

They get the target, achieve it,
and bring it home, bag it,

so we can eat it.
You gotta go for the kill.

There's too many managers out
there.

People managing what? What are you
managing?

Manager, managing, ain't no money in
managing, the money is in the kill.

The money is in the bag. You gotta
go grab the bag.

Grab the target, bring it home
so we can share it, we can eat it,

we can live, and then we can
continue our dream.

Eat what you kill
and that's how you dream big.

What's wrong with Pueblo?
If there's anything wrong,

what is it? I think it's lack of
knowing your self-worth.

If you don't know your self-worth,
then you have no clue

what your potential is,
and you have no goals.

Where did you get this? Where did
you get your sense of self-worth?

My dad pushed me really hard in
school and he was really
motivating.

And then he passed away when I was
13. After he passed away,

I just made excuses, "I can't
do that cos I'm a single mom."

Or, "I can't do that because I'm a
stay-at-home mom." Blah, blah,
blah.

So finally I'm just like,
"I'm done."

Done making excuses?
I'm done.

Cos then I'm gonna teach
my kids to make excuses,

and I'm not OK with that. So
many things that I connect with
her,

she lost her dad when she was 13, I
lost my dad when I was 10.

I have my reason to stay now, she
could turn her whole life around.

I'm sorry.
You know, I'm like, "I'm over it."

I want to raise them and give them
more than what I'm doing,

so I wanna be able to succeed on
my own and I don't have support

or backup. And my kids deserve to
see that, like,

good guys don't have to finish last.
Yeah. And I'm the good guy.

I am a single mother of three
beautiful little kiddos.

They are...
the best motivation in the world.

I think the hardest part is just
wanting to be better

and not knowing how.

How much money
are you making right now?
