because it's actually hallway,
mud room and laundry week

and any powder rooms
they have left to do.

Add to that, the hallways this year
are super-sized

thanks to the breezeways

which connect the old houses
to the new pavilions.

And there's always a longest hallway,

which has gone to house four
this year.

They had 63 square metres
of real estate to complete this week,

including a 40m hallway
running from their front door

through a breezeway
to their new pavilion,

to their mud room and laundry.

This morning, we'll wake up
and we just have to paint all day

because we know
if we stop painting...

Like, I didn't even go...
I didn't even sit down for lunch.

I just had to keep rolling

because I knew we were just fighting
against the clock.

to deliver this week,

a total of 51 square metres,

including the hallway
in their original house,

the breezeway connecting
to the new pavilion,

the powder room and interconnected
laundry and mud room.

And while they have a smaller area,

the same can't be said
for their problems.

Their mud room, laundry
and powder room are yet to be tiled

and that's just the tip
of the iceberg.

Saturday, 24 hours to go,

I thought we were in
a much better position somehow.

have discovered a hole

at the end
of Sharon and Ankur's hallway

under the door connecting
the old house to the new pavilion.

The plasterers were supposed to
finalise it

and they just haven't done it, so...

of the spectrum

are house one's Tom and Sarah-Jane,

a whopping 82 square metres.

That includes their hallway,

And amazingly,

the high achievers are in a really
good position with all that.

They just need paint, trimmings
and styling.

In house two, even seasoned
renovators Rachel and Ryan

have been scorched by
'hell-way week'.

At 71 square metres, they have
the second-largest space to complete.

Their main entrance
leads to an L-shaped hallway

in the old part of the house

with a connecting breezeway
to the new pavilion

where there is a second hallway
leading to the mud room and laundry.

And there's still 13 missing doors.

But the bench seat for their hallway
nook is thankfully not missing.

thanks to a difficult week

being topped off by a day from hell
yesterday.

before they could start

any of the cabinetry.

their beautiful hallways, breezeway,

mud room, laundry coming together.

With us, we barely have sheets

for the boys...

one of the best in town,

so they're coming in
to actually fit it in.

It's hard to not make the cabinetry
yourself and fit it in

but these boys are taking the heart
to do it

and put it in, to be honest,
to take us over the line.

the laundry waterproofing

I actually really liked this week.

Tom and Sarah-Jane were tasked
with renovating 82 square metres

of real estate this week,

including their hallway,
connecting to a hallway sitting room,

following through to a breezeway
linking the old with the new.

In the pavilion, their scope of works
included a second hallway,

laundry and mud room.

Got a (BLEEP)load to plan, really.

All the plaster, the insulation,

the flooring, plumbing,
Kinsman cabinetry... Mmm. Mmm.

There was a lot going on.

So I thought, "I'll duck out
to the pub for a feed."

MAN: You could be
the first person ever

to go to the pub every day
on hell week.

It's Wednesday and we're living the
dream of breaking the record so far.

Today, there is Rinnai heater
install, plastering, carpentry,

electrical, ProctorWrapping,
window install.

I'm taking a big risk here.

Because if we don't finish, you're
gonna look like the biggest dick.

Like, just like a real arrogant
(BLEEP).

Yeah, we've gotta get to the pub.

You can't start something
and not finish it.

First contestant in Block history

to go to the pub every single day
through hell week.

Well, here's to the fact
you'll be painting tonight.

I hope that the judges like the flow
that we've gone with... Yeah.

..from the old into new...

..and they meet in the breezeway
and how there's... Yeah.

..that almost like the whole change,
which is what we wanted.

SARAH-JANE: It feels nice.

Like, would I like to do
a little bit more? Sure.

But with the time frame,
I'm super proud of what we did.

SHAYNNA: Oh...

I love their style.

This is such a trip. Like...

This is a hallway?

I'm trying to mesh together this
house now because we're old, new...

NEALE: Yeah.
And this whole...

Wow.

..whole thing in between
that didn't exist last week.

You know what I love
what they've done,

that we've got all the beautiful
cornicing, the roof goes down,

so it gives that beautiful break
of the old and new

but carrying through the colours
and the feeling.

Wow!

It's got a real sense of grandeur
about it, hasn't it?

Darren really liked that you gave
the breezeway some purpose

by including the fireplace
and the chess set and chairs.

It's kooky that this is a breezeway

and there's such a massive amount
of space.

It actually does seem useful.
I don't think I'd sit here a lot.

You wouldn't read a book here

because you've got
that gorgeous view. Yeah.

But I think having a fireplace here

is actually going to help
heat this place

'cause there's a lot of air here.

Tom and Sarah-Jane are very good
at understanding dimension.

Mmm.

The actual size of the pieces
they've put in here

from the fireplace...
Mmm.

..to the pendant light,
they understand how to fill a space

and that is something we've seen
other contestants on The Block

struggle with...
Yeah.

..when they've had super enormous,
huge spaces.

But the rugs aren't the ideal size
for the space.

I would probably put two round rugs
down, you know, around here...

That repetition would be nice.

And I think it would be
a better size.

The other issue for Darren this week
was the ceiling in this area.

That's a bit of an issue for me.

Square set's unforgiving
if it's not perfection.

And that has a definite curve to it.

TOM: Yeah, it got wet.

Opened with the walls
not been finished outside.

I mean, they think it needs to be
redone,

especially because that area
is square set.

Yep.

Considering the time frame, however,
and the huge workload this week,

some defects are understandable,
even for you guys,

and it didn't dampen the judges'
enthusiasm for your rooms today.

That's a risk that a lot of people

Absolutely. So the tiles
are the navy. Very clever.

Overall, the laundry is very well
considered, beautiful to look at

and totally functional,

This is by far hell-way week.

This week, Rachel and Ryan
had to renovate their main entrance,

which connects to an L-shaped hallway
in their old house,

then a breezeway
into the new pavilion,

where they also had to do

a second long hallway,

mud room and laundry.

Oh, from there to your front door.

Two hallways, mud room and laundry.
That's huge.

You know, it's Wednesday and I don't

The hallways would've been enough

but then we'll just throw in

We're on track for our hallway,

our laundry, our mud room,
to have everything completed.

We're good. I feel good.

And that's our front door.

Our tiler Mick was sick
and his whole crew was sick.

We had a back-up tiler but he
couldn't make it this week either.

We're about to come undone here.

We actually don't have a tiler

So I decided to go down,
have a meeting with Scotty

and ask him if we can borrow
his tilers.

and they see that we've really tried

There's a lot of doors to do.

It was clear that you had
some execution issues.

It's palatial, though.
It is.

I like the lighting layout.

I like how these spotlights
highlight these artworks.

Mmm.

You know, I think it's great to
treat hallways as gallery spaces

and, you know, it does rely heavily
on the choice of art.

The Anna Blatman painting
is an absolute...

Cracking piece. That's beautiful.
I love that one.

Yes, it is.
But it doesn't go with that.

They cancel each other out,
unfortunately, visually.

So you have to be careful
when pairing and hanging artwork.

Shaynna really liked the nook
with the seat.

I love the fact
this is your front door,

they've got baskets underneath,

you can put shoes,
you can put schoolbags there.

And I love that fluted panel
that they've used there.

Mmm. That's the laminex MDF.

So it's just like big sheets,
so really simple, put it on.

But it's a good contemporary mix
of the rustic of the timber

and the hatstand and the hat hooks.

They work together.
Yeah.

So we've got the old and the new.
And this flooring is just beautiful.

It's lovely.

And they really all appreciated
the effort that you put in.

Coming around the corner
and they were majorly impressed.

I'm loving the practicality
of a linen cupboard here. Yep.

You know, good functionality,
good cupboard space.

I love it.
That's a lot of storage in there.

in strength and confidence every week

and producing a house
which feels like

it really belongs in the country.

of themselves.

There was one week where we gave in

and we tried to do
what we thought the judges wanted

and we failed miserably.

That was our learning curve very
quickly to stick to what we know,

stick to what we love.

It's gonna pay off in the end.

was the hell-est week ever.

the hallway in their original house

and the breezeway
connecting to the pavilion.

They also did a powder room and the

And to make things
even more challenging,

they're still not seeing eye to eye
with their builders.

I feel like there's a level of
arrogance there from Scotty,

who's been on The Block before.

"I know better. I know everything."

The thing that ends the pressed
metal, what are we using as that?

Just the same
as what you used there.

Is it grand enough?

These guys aren't like
the other builders.

I wanted to get rid of them weeks
ago, to be honest, to do this

but Anks was hesitant,

that stood in this house last week

And so they did.

And while you were delivering
a style Neale could love...

This is horrible.

This makes it feel like
a cheap film set

and it brings down the quality
of the drama in those other rooms.

The fact that they've got an
art nouveau type of pressed metal,

the fact we're in
a Victorian hallway,

the fact that they were gifted

the most divine detailed archways
and corbels, where are they?

And what's that plant there?

Do you have a plant in the hallway
like that?

What are those lamps? Like, come on!

Oh, they're cute, is what they are.

for getting their mojo back.

I mean, we always knew that Ankur
and Sharon were polarising.

I mean, it's a very specific buyer
that's gonna fall in love with this.

I don't mind these.

I stood in the hallway just now
and said 'camp Gothic'.

Well, it doesn't get much camper
than that. No, it doesn't.

And it ain't Gothic.
I mean, that's a bit sort of Deco.

The skirting is so beautiful.

of being courageous and adventurous

a very, very good, very practical,

really well-thought-out space
and I'm very, very impressed.

This is the first hallway
we've walked into today

that feels like one solid
anchor point for the whole house.

and it feels very contemporary.

Now, last week,
I thought Dylan and Jenny

had sunk into
this slightly Hamptonsy vibe,

which just wasn't doing it
for any of us.

This week, I'm completely confounded

because this is like
a different Dylan and Jenny.

Like it had been presented

by a completely different couple
to last week's room.

That's the style I wanted to go
in the other room. (LAUGHS)

because with those few skirts
and architrave...in place,

all three of them said, today,
they would've given you...

I mean, they're that close.

And you know what
the great thing is,

it's only an extra couple of hours

Well, you feel for them in advance

because they are gonna be crushed
at the judging

but they should be happy
in knowing how close they came.

This week was shutdown week.

to renovate this week,

two hallways, one in the old house
and one in the new section,

a breezeway, a mud room, a laundry
and a powder room.

And despite that, they were amazingly
optimistic at the start of the week.

Who wouldn't be scared of us,
to be honest.

and everyone's scared.

Tuesday was gonna be
our big, big day

that we wanted
to just nail everything.

Today is a disaster, seriously.

Everywhere you go,
it feels like a junkyard.

sharp objects everywhere.

shut down, we got shut down again.

The fact that it's hallway week

and we pretty much have
absolutely done nothing,

Tuesday just set us back so much
for what we were meant to do.

Today's gonna be the biggest day.

We've got the two hallways,
the breezeway,

mud room, laundry and powder room.

It's gonna be tough
to come back from

but we're confident
that we'll get it done.

Plasterers are coming in.

So you've done a whole ceiling of
stain, so you don't have to do that.

from the old part of the house

and delivered the best design.

The overall feedback
of we're on track with our house
