breakfast much more entertaining.

This is Hack My Life.

If you've ever lost the back of an
earring or a bobby pin and tried to find

in carpeting, well, forget it.
Thankfully, there are a few hacks for

metal objects if they get lost in your
carpet. And we're going to put them to

the test right now because this is Hack
vs. Hack.

I'm trying out a hack that involves a
vacuum hose, a nylon stocking, and a

rubber band. Take your nylon stocking,
place it over the top of the vacuum

secure it like so.

The nylon is going to act as your net
when you suck up all of your valuable

items from this ugly carpet.

My hack is way easier. You grab some
adhesive magnet strips.

Oh, look at that.

It's a hobo metal detector.

It looks like it's working.

It's actually going really well.

Not even picking it up.

They're falling off as I'm stamping it

The magnets might work, but definitely
not on a carpet this shag. No, no, no.

No, no. Now I'm going to go ahead and
say the vacuum with the nylon stocking

over the top is the clear winner. I
apologize to everybody who drafted me

their fantasy hack league.

There are a number of different hacks
for getting unwanted crayon off of

wallpaper. To find out whether baking
soda and water, shaving cream, or

toothpaste works best, I invited three
moms for a hack -off challenge.

We've invited a few kids to draw all
over the wallpaper with crayons so we

determine the best hack. That's
beautiful.

Guys, do me a favor. Could you go and
color Brooke's car? It's in the parking

lot. It's the white one.

All right. Let's get to the challenge.
Let's start with baking soda.

Are you ready for this? Yeah.

All right. Let's do it.

You can just get a sponge wet and dip it
in the baking soda, and that's how you

get it off. I hate to delete this. I
hate to erase this masterpiece, but we

to get rid of these spaceships and these
planes.

How do you think the baking soda's
doing? It's coming off. I can see the

the sponge.

Yeah. It's working.

It's a little tough, but it's working.

This wall is cleaning up pretty nicely.
I think we've proven that it works. It's

perfect for erasing the dreams and
aspirations of your children.

Baking soda gets four stars.

It might require a little elbow grease,
but it gets the job done.

All right, let's move on to our next
pack. We've got toothpaste and a

toothbrush. Let's try it. I think it
could work a little bit.

There's abrasiveness and toothpaste
that, when scrubbed, supposedly pulls

crayon right off. I mean, obviously,
you're getting the toothpaste on there,

but... I use toothpaste sometimes to
maybe clean around the faucets. Oh,

Yeah, I do.

Personally, I think it's making a mess.
Yeah. You're having to work way too

hard. If you want to stick at this for
another five hours, you're more than

welcome to.

Look, I got my little workout. I'm done.
Okay. All right. Let's call it. Thank

you. We're giving toothpaste two stars.

Yeah, at work.

A little.

But there's no way it's worth the time.

All right, last but not least, the so
crazy it might work hack, shaving cream.

Have you ever used shaving cream to
clean anything in your house? No. No.

Not once. No.

And at this point, your children are
wondering why they're in timeout because

you're making a bigger mess than they
did.

It's getting in there.

It is.

It's also bleaching the wall a little
bit in the cracks. Like, you can really

see it in there.

I'll help out if you don't mind.

Yep, I'm already doing more work than I
want to. Is this ever something you

would use in a pen? No.

Shaving cream is lucky to get one star.

Not only does it make a mess, it
requires insane effort for minimal

Okay, we've seen how well this hack
works, but why?

Breaking down the hack.

Baking soda works best on the wallpaper
stains because it's a mildly abrasive

alkali, just like all -purpose cleaners.
When used with a damp sponge, Baking

soda easily lifts the petroleum wax from
the crayon off of the wallpaper.

Because they smear easily, crayons are
best removed by non -abrasive cleaners.

That's why toothpaste, which contains
aluminum hydroxide and calcium

isn't as effective as baking soda mixed
with water.

Shaving cream contains glycerin, a sugar
-alcohol compound that lubricates and

moisturizes. That's helpful for shaving,
but not helpful at getting rid of

crayons. So keep the shaving cream and
toothpaste in the bathroom and reach for

the baking soda in a crayon crisis.

Sometimes an item is so useful, it
ascends into the pantheon of great

tools. Today, we celebrate one of those
simple household items that truly has

become a hack all -star.

Duct tape.

Put a piece of duct tape on the edge of
a dustpan to prevent that annoying line

of dust from being left behind.

All -star.

Make an easy bug catcher by hanging long
strips of duct tape from your ceiling.

Replace that broken shelf in your
refrigerator door with duct tape. Stick

pieces to each other and secure the
edges to the shelf.

Don't feel like driving to that dinner
party? You can still bring a hostess

by duct taping a bottle of wine to your
bike.

Pro tip, red wine pairs best with a 10
-speed.

Make a pouch for your remote control.

Stick strips of tape together to form a
rectangle.

Tape up the bottom and the back, and use
a few more pieces to attach it to your

couch. All -star.

When a guest insists on committing just
about every party foul imaginable,

you're going to need a series of hacks
to make sure everyone still has a good

time. To keep the party going, you need
a hack line of defense against the

obnoxious party guest.

The obnoxious party guest shows up with
muddy shoes and doesn't even offer to

take them off when he enters.

Protect your place by keeping an extra
pair of slippers by your front door.

Chances are he'll love them so much...

You won't actually get him back, but
that's okay.

When the obnoxious party guest can't see
the beers in the cooler, he has no

issue turning on the lights for a better
look, killing the party vibe and

hurting everyone's eyes.

Protect your party and make the bruise
more visible by dumping several glow

sticks in the cooler.

It'll also add a cool ambience. The
obnoxious party guest assumes every beer

his, which kind of makes sense because
he's been drinking since 8 p .m.

Once you've tossed the big pieces of

-fashioned shell -to -shell method.

Dana, you are going to crack the eggs
onto the plate.

Squeeze the bottle.

Suck the yolk right into the bottle.
Give it a little tip.

And then once it's cool, you'll deposit
your yolk right into here, leaving us a

plate of pearly egg whites.

Do you think that's going to work?

Hey, we'll give it a shot.

We want to see who can separate the eggs
the fastest.

We want no broken yolks. We want no
shell.

In terms of separation,

it's not that terribly different. We did
a pretty good job. You guys have a few

broken yolks. We do as well.

Do you guys have any shell in there? I
think both bowls are clean.

So you both did an excellent job.

See how positive I am when I'm not on
the winning side?

Just some people did a little greater.

So apparently the water bottle egg yolk
separator is all it's cracked up to be.

Got a dozen of those puns.

I love a good hard -boiled egg. I do.
It's a great source of protein, but it's

an endless source of frustration.

Because when you're ready to eat it,
you've got to crack it open and try to

it off. And then the shell fractures
into a thousand pieces.

What, you're bringing us a little hack
to make this easier? Yeah, absolutely.

Take your freshly hard -boiled eggs with
nice and warm cold water.

Take some baking soda, and you're going
to want to measure out a teaspoon.

This will actually soften the shell
around the egg.

Okay. Put it in the ice water.

All righty.

A little tap, tap, tap on the top, and
we'll peel off just the top of it. And

give it a little tap, tap on the bottom,
and peel a little off the bottom, too.

We basically made a hard -boiled blow
dart. We're going to give it a big old

blow. What are you doing?

It's a boy!

Huh? Oh, my God. That's delicious.

Ridiculous.

You did a good job, Kev. I'm a good egg?

Everybody loves a reason to celebrate,
but special occasions can be especially

stressful.

Until now.

Here is how to hack your holidays.

If you want to dye eggs on Easter and
not your hands, try using a whisk.

Just put the egg inside and dip.

A few months later, when you're making
Halloween cookies from scratch, but

own a rolling pin, use a bottle of wine
instead.

Its smooth surface will spread out the
dough just as well.

And you can drink its contents when
trick -or -treating is over.

Oh, God.

Halloween passes, and now it's the
Christmas season. If you need some last

-minute Christmas decorations, and
you're a hillbilly, just turn an empty

potato chips inside out and cut it into
thin strips to create tinsel for your

tree. Make sure you wipe off the grease
and sadness.

Once Christmas is over, egg cartons are
the perfect size to store your delicate

Christmas ornaments.

After cleaning up from Christmas, you
find yourself at a New Year's Eve party

easy on yourself by using a pair of

tongs as leverage to squeeze every last
drop of citrus into your cocktail

There's actually a hack where if you use
a walnut, you can rub the nut into the

scratch and the oils will actually
repair it.

Yeah. Cool. All right, so let's do it.

I've never done this before.

Really? Nope. I probably shouldn't say
that before I try it, right? That

Step one, you've got to crack open the

shell and get to the walnut.

Step two, let's just go ahead and try to
work in this area and just try to get

some of the oil from the walnut into
these scratches.

Want to give it a whirl? Okay.

Step three, once you have the oil there,
you want to take your fingertip and

just work the oil in.

so that it fills in that scrap. Final
step is, of course, to use a nice cloth.

Give it one last polish.

Wow. Honestly, if you showed me the
before and after, I would not believe it

push this back?

Absolutely. All right, we got a $25
table here with about $18 worth of

on it. Now, the walnut worked miracles
on the last table. This scratch is a bit

wider, a bit deeper. It's a different
wood, different finish.

These are pretty deep scratches. I don't
know if that's going to make that.

All right, let's just start maybe on
this guy here.

All right, it's early, but I don't know
if you're seeing what I'm seeing, but as

I'm going over it...

Oh, yeah.

Look at that.

Clearly, it's not fixing the gouge. It's
not going to fill that in, but it is

adding some color. That oil is getting
in there.

Level one of the hack experiment totally
works. Surface scratches, a walnut is a

miracle worker.

Level two, when the scratches get a
little bit deeper, it's getting a little

questionable. I will say, though,
overall, I think the hack experiment is

complete success.

I'm on a camping trip and have nowhere
to put my pots and pans.

Now what?

Well, you can strap your belt to a tree
and use hooks to hang them.

Okay, but now my pants are falling off
because I used my belt to hang pots and

pans. So, now what?

Relax. You can use a shoelace to keep
your pants up without a belt.

Okay, well, let's say I'm not a hobo who
rides the rails, and I also want to

ride my bike home.

My shoes are falling off because I just
used my laces as a belt.

Glue sponges on your bike pedals so you
can comfortably bike without shoes.

Now my sponges really stink because I
biked for miles with my gross sweaty

on them.

Now what?

Calm down. Just put your sponges in the
microwave for two minutes and that will

kill 99 .9 % of the germs.

I'm having some very fancy friends over
tonight who I promised to feed hot dogs.

You know, but now there's a germy sponge
in my microwave and I don't feel like

cleaning it. So now what?

Got it. Cook a big batch of hot dogs
using a rake.

Just make sure it's metal.

It's the wiener rake.
