It's no secret that The Block is
a tough and gruelling competition.

We don't hide it.

We've been saying it and showing it
for 17 series now.

# They all act
like they don't know... #

And every year, I hear the same thing
from the contestants.

It's, like, I am blown away
at how hard The Block is.

Um, it was...
yeah, it was a big shock for us.

It's probably one
of the hardest things to do.

I just wish we, like,
could enjoy it more,

with, like, no sleep and stuff,
but it's hard!

The Block bubble is super intense.

You know,
producers wanna ask you questions

while you're in the middle
of a breakdown,

or while you're in the middle

of trying to get in your car
and go somewhere.

Whilst it's a life-changing
opportunity,

sometimes while
you're in the thick of it,

you can't see anything other
than how difficult it is.

And that is exactly where
Ankur and Sharon appear to be.

They chose the biggest house
and they have no trade experience...

Because we've got the most demo
out of everybody,

we have to chuck more money at it,

and so we lose more money
out of our budget.

..and issues with their build team...

Well, I think you think
I'm attacking you with everything.

Like, if I bring something up,

I'm not, like, having a go
and attacking you.

I'm actually reacting
to something you started.

So, just be clear on that.

..and being genuinely overwhelmed
by the whole experience.

It just takes us a lot longer than
everybody else to do the same thing,

'cause we don't know
what we're doing.

Once you're stuck
in The Block bubble,

it just seems like
this is everything.

I actually cannot wait
to get out of this place.

to Beaumont to pick up their tiles,

which is just as well,

because overnight,
the boys from Imperial

managed to get their ensuite
waterproofed,

and pending approval
from Foreman Dan,

they're ready to start tiling.

it was all about trying
to get this room in a position

where they could paint on a Friday.

I can't see that happening

So...I've been away for two days.

I don't know what's gone on,

but we do seem to be
a little bit behind again.

After the fun and frivolity

We've probably got someone else's

Somehow, there was a mix-up,

and they got Oz and Omar's tiles
instead.

Our tilers are laying
the boys' tiles

because they got delivered,

and they didn't know
that they weren't our tiles.

They just thought...they were.

So, we have to rip up those tiles
and put our tiles down.

So, this morning Jenny is waking up
to a very welcome sight.

Ohh! Oh, my god!

Wow!

He actually must have stayed up
all night.

That's insane!

So, woke up Friday morning,

and all of our tiles on the walls -
the right ones -

and I was so happy with our cho...
well, my choices.

It was really good. Love it.

This was the boys' tile
that was in here.

And obviously you can see why...

..why I was like,
"No, they need to come up now."

Like, they'll probably look
really nice in the boys' room,

but in this room,
I've got two features already.

That's another feature.

It would have just been,

such a simple tile for the floor

and for other walls.

my tiler had COVID.

..and then their waterproofing was...

There's no other word for it.

..and had to be ripped up.

Seriously? Why?
It's no good.

This happened to Omar...

..but they did manage
to convince my tilers,

the Cursio brothers, to come
and redo their waterproofing.

But they couldn't do the job
because the floor levels were wrong.

As soon as we took them
over to our house,

we showed them exactly
what we needed to get done.

They looked down and then,
uh-oh, there's a big problem.

Not a great Thursday.

That was the worst Thursday
I've ever had.

But today is a new day,
and Oz is determined to punch on.

In the bathroom, however,

yesterday's floor problem is,
well, still a big problem.

..waterproofing,
but there's no waterproofing.

Yeah, we ripped up
all the waterproofing.

We weren't happy with the procedure.

But that's not the issue.

The issue is the step between
our polished slab and the bathroom.

(SIGHS) Yeah.
So...

Yesterday's concrete pour
in the hallway

revealed that the screed
was set too low in the bathroom.

So, House Five, right now,

have a problem with their finished
floor height levels.

Where we've got the polished
concrete slab

and where we've got the screed,

there's 35mm discrepancy.

There should only be
about a 15mm step,

so when they put tile and glue on,

it'll end up at a nice even height,
which is what you want -

a nice level transition.

So, we've gotta build this up
15mm somehow.

Is there a way
we can kind of just screed...

..like, has this got fall in it
already, this screed?

Yes.

Can we try and keep it level

and just have a little ramp
around the door?

What do you think of that solution?

I think you're right.
I think that's the best idea.

That's the only way
we could probably do it.

That way we can still tile
the rest of the bathroom.

They're gonna try and waterproof
and tile half of the room,

then later tonight,
we'll do another little screed

back up to where
the polished concrete is,

then tomorrow morning,
come in and tile it.

That way,
we'll have it dead level again.

This is a big mistake.

They've now gotta try
and rush to finish,

which is unfortunate for the boys,

because as we know,
they're the bathroom kings.

They're certainly not kings
in this bathroom at the moment.

close to finishing.

where there's just three days
remaining on a two-room week.

Getting thrown two rooms side
by side - bathroom and bedroom -

was, like, "Holy moly!"

And across in House Two,

things are progressing well
in Ryan and Rachel's ensuite,

with their feature tiles
starting to go down.

Next door in the bedroom,
they're going to keep things modern,

with a simple timber bedhead,
muted colour palette,

and a wall of cabinetry
with a study nook.

But now the wardrobes are in,

Rachel is not sure
about where she's placed them.

We got the plasterers coming soon
to start doing the bulkhead.

Well, they can't.

(TENSE INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)

This morning
we had to make a decision

on what we wanted to do
with our joinery.

The Kinsman wardrobe placement
just didn't sit well with Rach,

and we had to make a decision

before moving forward with the
plasterers to create bulkheads,

and it took us a while.

It's not even about
what the judges are gonna say.

It's about what a buyer's
gonna think of this room.

So, a quick fix
isn't gonna help us.

Right now, walking into that space
that only has the wardrobe in it,

it feels crowded,
and it's got nothing else.

So, once we add the desk,
once we add the bed,

once we add everything else,
it's gonna feel even worse.

This feels oppressive.
This is too much.

(DRILL WHIRRS)

My gut instinct is telling me to
take the wardrobes out completely.

They don't work.

Maybe put a wardrobe in over here.

And have some dressers
or something here.

I can tell you right now, I can't
hand that...that can't be revealed.

So, whatever we get is gonna be
better than what's already in there.

We just need to figure out

how to, basically, redesign
this entire room.

So, Friday was a massive hole
for us.

It is hard, though.

we're hoping to be able to re-use
some of the water off the dam.

has been super overwhelming
for me personally.

I've cried every single day

I feel like we should be allowed
to vent about it to each other,

because it is hard.

Well, we also need an attitude change
from you guys as well.

There's people around you
that aren't happy - tradesmen.
