sit here and wait.Cuo Every day when I wake up,
I'm going to plan that dayԠ 8 based on my calorie needs. Nice.Cu@炆L I'm hungry. And it just sucks to know
that I'm at starvation time,
where I just sit aroundCu炞4 and I don't have anything
to eat.h What do you want from me, universe?4Cu炲4 Perhaps my purpose here
is not to win.d I accept my fate.Cu4 Hello.
This is Baha.h I am officially tapping out.P Being alone here felt likeCu젬 connecting deeper

 Sometimes you have to lose
a battle to win the war.Cu They call this place
the land of great thirst. The Great Karoo Desert,
South Africa.|Cu@$¡ We are in one of the most
inhospitable places on Earth. Ġ

Look at the size of that thing.4 There's a big herd

guys, for hunting.
4Cus1 It's hard. Ġ

I'll take you hunting.< I get especially excited when
I get to take a woman hunter
CuH and just let them

that women are strongerlCu@7 than they think they are.d You know, we can keep up

I could prove that.

p I can show that.Cu We're done with water. Yay. Getting kind of chilly.Cu@
 I think we're going
to bundle up and workd on some dreamcatchers.H Just going to find
some bluebush twigs.Cu.O The night before I flew out,
my cousin called me.䠶
H Him and his wife had
a baby named Eleanora.
CuF And they asked if I wanted

whatever she wants in life.
Cu? Hopefully, they can
hang it up in her bedroom.4 Let's go make
some dreamcatchers.,Cu@nš I was talking to my aunt and
uncle before I came out here,\ and my aunt goes,
your grandma would be proud.DCu֠ My grandma passed away.ܠ@ And she was,, like, the ultimate

so tough.Cu Coyote hunting
well into her old age.| Never gave up.Cu@ġ She'd be like, you got food,
water, shelter, you're fine. L That's what she would say.
And I agree with her. I have food, water,
and shelter, so I'm fine.
<Cu6֠ She'd be proud
that I made it herel and that I'm doing,
so far, as well as can be.CuUv Oh, I can't wait
to give this to Eleanora.4 Here we go.
This is for my godchild.Cu@t You guys,
I super hope she likes it.
ǡ
p And I hope that this represents
that her dreams are endless,#Cu@
nobody hold her back,젶P and she can be a strong,
independent woman. And I hope
that I can inspire her.
Cuՠ I want to get hunting today.@Cuu But I need to eat.Cu+ So I'm just eating...CuP What I can.Р I'm losing faith
in the fishing, to be honest.Cuq So in the absence
of meat protein,
3¡
I'm trying to have enough food
every day to keep going.XCu So I might have to go
really slow todayCu so I don't crash my energy.Ԡ 8 But I know that
there's an expiration dateCul¡ on being on a survival trip
and only eating plant food.$ So hopefully,
something will shift. Cu OK. Phew!, I'm off with my bow
to see what's possible today.Cu
$¡ So this will be interesting,
my hunting strategy today. I'm just going to see
if I can evadeCu,d being seen
by these amazing animals.
` God, they're so cluey.CuC4 But I'm starting
to be able to really see

x the waterbuck on the hill.
dCu@Xt They've always got
the upper hand̠0 because they're
on the hillside.P So the focus is sit and wait
and hope that I can get
Cur۠ an opportunity to take a shot.l Fingers crossed
the strategy works.
Cu So basically, waterbuck, t they come across the mountain
from east to west.
\Cu@[ The wind is coming along
like this. That's good.<
So I'm just going to sit here
in a little hidey-hole,TCu٫ see what happens. LCu +; That's tough, man.Р We're headed home.Cu @ Come on.
Where are you guys?4Cu zš There is something going on
with those baboons over there. Can you hear them?Cu
Z Whoa.Cu
YA There's a bunch of them.
There's, like, at least 20.Cu
t It's like they're a gang
ready to come beat me up. They better stay on their side.<Cu
i "West Side Story." Whoa. LCu@
9 I don't have my bow.< I have bear spray.
That's all I have.8 Holy smokes.
There's even more coming.Cu
 .
p There's a crap ton.Cu
A There's probably,
like, 35, 40 now.
` Holy smokes.
They keep coming across.Cu
  They're getting ballsy,
and they need to stay away.Cu Hey! Hey!\ Get! Get out of here! Cu! Go!ܠH I don't need 60 of them coming,
bombarding my camp.
CuA蠗 No thank you. 0 Calm down.Cu\x I just need to walk.( It's getting warm out.Cu@x Sitting in the sun
on my lookout rock䠢H puts me in a great mood.|( It gives me mental clarity. $Cu@(¡ And I just feel so much better
being in the open space,, rather than being
cooped up at my shelter.CuH I wonder how everybody else
is doing with the baboons.Cu0 What is that? t You guys, look.Cu Rhino. Right there.
Cu@ So cool.d Wow.Cu- Oh, my gosh, guys. L Look. There's two more.Cu@Cߠ It looks like a mom and a baby.\ Oh, that's amazing. You guys, it's a three rhino
kind of day.4CubϠ Sweet. Super sweet. 젯
P This makes me feel strong,
you know? LCuvϠ Rhino strong.D 'Cause of the rhinos.<
H These rhinos have me
jacked up, guys. $CuO There they go. t Bye, rhinos. $` Come back again. Cu Head back to camp, make sure the baboons are
not messing with our stuff.tCu_ That would be devastating.|Cu灰 The good news, guys,
I still see my stuff,D so baboons have not came
and taken it.,Cu
 So let's go fishing.Cu
' So I found this weird beetle.PCu
?F And we're going to try
to use him as a topwater bait.Cu@
S I don't know.
( It's a whole beetle in there.
We'll find out.l Either it works or it doesn't.Cu
uV I am a little disappointed
in the fishing., I can't catch anything.|Cu
Ơ It's like the fish have
just stopped biting., Emotionally,
it's been a roller-coaster.Cu
And I know I'm hard on myself. L I'm very competitive. There we go.Cu
ޠ I'll judge myself first
over anybody.\( Be a great day
to be horseback riding.|Cu
栵 Packing the little burro
in the mountains. He'd love it here.Cu
V Oh, fish are swirled
right over there.ܠ@ He needs to come over here. I remember a timeCu
5 I did the trainer incentive
challenge. Everybody gets a burro,
wild, untouched.TCu@!
You have 90 days to train it.젯P And then you go
and compete with it.<
I got a burro, Badger.䠴8 I had him doing everything
in three days,lCu@< leading, crossing bridges, loading in and out
of trailers,<¡ where everybody else could
barely get a halter on them.CuP Fish just swirled right there. Come over here.L Why aren't you guys
swirling here?Cud We get to competition day one,
and I bombed.
\
 Badger laid down.
He reared up.
<Cu@} He refused to get
in the trailer.x He refused to do anything.젨
He was just having an off day. And I'm like,
there's no winning it now.Cu@ I thought something would
nail this bug sooner. ` Well, we came back.젰 And then we blew it
out of the water.
Cu We won grand champion,
me and that burro. And I have adopted him,
and he's the best.$CuM I'm shocked that nothing's
wanting to come bite this.
But you got to stay strong,
stay positive.Cu浠ġ And so the lesson is to think
about what's in front of me and not what's behind me.,Cul All right.
Well, I think we're done.
H You tried, little bug.Cu& I'm not giving up.d We'll get there. Remember, rhino strong. L You got this.Cut Oh, gosh.
Baboon tracks.\Cu젋 . Those bloody baboons.
d When I was out hunting,
they were cruising through.LCu And my lovely wallaby hat
has gone.hCu< Taking things like that,
you get cranky with them.T Little buggers.LCuK All right.
I need to go forage. So I'm just going
to shut my shelter up, LCu make sure
that doesn't happen again. tH Down this comes.Cu(k Here we go. t Locked safe.<Cu?c Away from those maniac baboons.
h Where would they have
taken my hat?CuX Back to their lair? God.Cur{ Anyway, that's as locked up
as it gets right now.tCuS Alrighty., Heading out. Out here, the calories in,
calories outCu is a very real factor. 8 So even if I'm not
eating protein,lCu[ I want to eat every day.̠0 And so plants are
really critical for me.Cuӂ Look, I've got lots
of foraged greens.dCuJ Wormwood, cabbage, and mint. And this is also
where the grass seeds were.
(Cuz I can process
a little bit of grains.
 Plant food,
particularly wild plants,
dCu@(Z have a very, very high
nutritional content,
<
much higher than, say,tx a lettuce that you buy
from the shops.\Cu@ And it just feels good.̠0 I've got enough for tonight,
but I'll have a lookCuUҠ and see if there's
anything else around here.
This is a very,
very arid environment
Cum⠯ and there's not
a lot of plant food. But one of the things I like
to look for in environments
CuҠơ is all the spaces in between,
things that most people miss.,Cub Very weird.4 Good, they're in the clay.<8 So I'm using its potential
as much as I can.
Cu Come on.
Out you get. God.k There we go.Cu9 Bizarre that they're
growing right there. Ġ
( But I won't reject it.
dCu) Oh.
I'm going to make a dinner. Back we go.TCu This looks yummy.
d
 This could be a rocking,
rocking veggie thing.
Cu2 I think when
we're talking about hunger| and the potential
for starvation on the show,LCu@HQ we're really
talking about food security.lġ I'm fascinated to see what
these little seeds taste like.Cuf And I've dealt
with the psychology

x of poor food security
quite a few times,Cu}! particularly in Arnhem Land,, where Indigenous people
just don't anymore have accessCu to enough traditional
bush foods because Ġ
( their environment's been
destroyed by feral animals.
<Cuɠ And their health is suffering۠? because they're eating
Western food.
< Mmm. Yum.lCux Like roasted sesame seeds
or something.D It's a threat to your
whole nervous systemCu؈ and your sense of safety
on country
when you don't
have enough food.Cup And then probably
the best thing to do with it is̠0 put water in it,Cu soak overnight,
and eat in the morning| like a mealy porridge. tCu@P And ultimately, I feel like
the real edge on this showġ is about understanding how
to feed yourself consistently.DCu> Oh, that's nice.Cug Well, it's early. I've been out fishing
for a couple hours already. And I had success.TCu/ First off,, there's this guy.|Cu⟠ It's a lot of meat. That is super exciting
for a hungry person.Cu Love it.l Look at this.䠬 I caught that
on a small catfish.<Cu Still on the hook right there.D Two for one, a little catfishtCu7' ate that scorpion,
got on the hook, Ġ
( big catfish came
to eat the little catfishCuN and luckily also got
on the hook. With that, I've got
quite a bit of meat.Cuog Seems like the fishing here
is on again, off again.x But I feel like
the momentum's back. Cu@. I've been successful
really early in the morningsԠá 8 and then at night, so I feel
like I'm unlocking the codeCu@N to catching these fish.Ԡ 8 This fish is dead.
That's just the nerves. $ And I thought I couldn't
use catfish meat
4CuŦ to fish for other catfish.t But apparently, I can.Cu@n I'm going to go get
this one in the pot and then come back
and finish up.` Catching these fish
really makes me feel
dCu@ optimistic about moving
forward with my shelter.
<
 And hopefully,
I can keep the momentum and continue to bring in
those catfish.Cu The game plan right now
is to go eat.
Ԡ8 Let's see how this fish
is coming along.Cu@< When you're not getting foodx and you're concerned
about getting food,
 that weighs on you
pretty significantly.\Cu@TƠ Full pot of catfish.X That's a beautiful sight.䠻 And then when you do get food,
it feels so good.
dCu@o. And you feel so confident
that you're going to be ablek to make this
and it's going to work.| Mmm. Time to eat. Cu@ݠ This is a pattern that
our ancestors lived through

x on a regular basis,lH the feast and famine mode
of living.
Cu= And it's not just physical.Ԡ 8 It's also mental. And I can really see that.Cuu I can't describe
how delicious it is. tCu% While I'm out here, I think about the writings
of the Stoics all the time,TCu which was taught to me
really clearly by my mother.< I need to slow down
a little bit.Cu That was hot.¡ Specifically the concept that
when we face a challenge,Cu@M rather than focusing on
how terrible that might be, recognising within that
obstacle is a pathway forward.CuA That obstacle becomes
the path.
 The easiest example
to point to is the catfish.DCu@\] They were breaking my lines,
stealing my hooks. K It was a big obstacle.젥 But it also became the way.Cus Those big fish are
my main food source.젓P I'm full.CuD I got lunch in there still.h In the moment, it doesn't
always seem that way. tCu@ But when you look back,
you realise
d
 that those obstacles
in your life brought about
important things for you
Cu$ and often led to solutions, that had much better outcomes
than if that obstacleCuԠ wasn't there
in the first place. 8CuD You guys, if you're having
a bad hair day,, I don't want to hear about it.CuAD Seriously, stop complaining
about your hair,

p because look at this mess.Cuc Oh, my gosh.
d
Yeah. I know it's a mess.Cuwˠ Thank you for letting me know.
Geese. t The geese think
they're so funny.
Cu All right, now I'm going
to put it back in a ponytail.
Cu۠ OK.Р Hair's done for the day.Cu@K Let's get ready.
We're going hunting. We have to get a warthog, guys. Wish us luck. Fishing is not working.Cu@ I'm not catching anything. So today, I'm going hunting.\ It is super important
to hunt as many days|Cu as I can
before there's the dayX where I can't pull
my bow back.
I'm giving it my all.|Cu+ I'm finding the grit inside
and pushing. Ġ
( The sun feels good.Cu@)ġ People don't look at women
the same way they look at men. 젿
P And I want to break down
barriers for female hunters\ and female guides.CuH I do like I can inspire
more women by being here.xCuʠ No freaking way.< I see a warthog
way the eff down there.
Oh, my God.lCuR Oh, my God. Oh, [bleep].Cu" Oh, shoot.D I'm going to lose them
for a little bit.Cu .
\
I shot low.Cu He ran off.D/ I missed my shot.Cu* I can't draw my bow back, all the way
to my anchor point.
dX My arrow.Cua This might be
our last day hunting.䠲
H It's not really ethical
to keep huntingTCuu if I can't pull it back.T
 Oh, man.Cu@ I can't pull it back
all the way. I get to about, like, here, and I need, like,
another inch or two.DCux It's devastating.t I'm trying not to break down,
but I'm gonna.CuȠ Because there's
just no way around it.l No sense in holding it in.
It just makes things worse.CuH I am here to push my limits. I'm not here to just give up
when it gets hard.3Cu_ I'm going to push.̠0 So I know that
I gave it everything I had.Cu-' And there's nothing left
to give.|h I ask myself, do you have food? CuGߠ Do you water?
Do you have shelter?p Yes. Yes. Yes. Then you're fine.
Get over it. Cu砏 Whoo! Finished.Cu@ԧ I'm going to go hunting. Ġ
( I think those grass seeds( really had a bit
of extra oomph in them CuϠ because I don't feel
quite so taxed today.Cu> Oh, God.Cu& .Cu It would have been, like,
a 50-yard shot., There's no way
I could have made it.|Cu But I think I missed
a great opportunity to get-- to get a piggy.TCu5M But it's a great encouragement. It feels like
it's possible after today.$CuOݠ I just need to trust
it's all going to be OK.Cud That this whole thing
is like a life parallel. This adventure
in South Africa, at its core,Cuu there's a sense
of a spiritual quest.
d
 I mean, I did a lot
of vision quests in my life.Cu] Head back to the shelter.X And I've learned
that transformationԠ often involves loss,Cu場 losing part of yourself
in order to grow.| And those lessons really
helped me when I gave birth.Cu That experience
really taught me

that women are just heroes.Cu匠 Plant food soup again tonight.Cuá I mean, what we endure in
childbirth is quite something.4 It does literally feel
at one pointDCu̠ like you will die. $ We've got these little sedge--Cu@7 little sedge plant today. 젧
P And then you pick them apart,젭 you kind of just get
this little--TCu@N it's not much. It's just, like,
a little white bit. t But I realised what died in me
was my young woman.Cur And that death was critical\ so that I could become
a mother. Cu@ And even though
I've struggled here,̠0 the energy of the quest< keeps me on track
with my purpose.Cu Ooh, yeah.x Survival stew.T0 And while I'm experiencing
the loss|Cu of a long
20-year relationship,
3
 I'm initiating a new phase
of independence as a woman.,CuC And so I know to trust
in the challenges, the grief,TCu the pain
as unlocking your power.tCuӠ That's been one
of the most profound threads t in all of this journey.Cu2 It's crazy.d I don't have enough food,
but I'm all right.Cu; I'm eating
a big breakfast today. I only have one meal left
after this one,CuJ and I'll be out of fish again.Cu Oh, that was a good breakfast.h I'm full.
Cu " I'll go get started
on the rock shelter., I've got two fishing lines
out this morning already.\Cu #r I can keep an eye
on both of them젬P while I'm working
on the shelter. Cu@ 9 For now, I'm going
to stick around camp.
I don't think I'm going
to hunt for a while now, just focus on catching
more fish,
Cu@ V getting it out to dry,Ġ( and getting
this shelter built.l I do want to be able
to stand up in the shelter,Cu u so I'm going to go on up
a little higher.l But I'm going to switch
to a different kind of stone.Cu@ There is another source
of stone.

 It's a metamorphic rock.X It looks like it's slate
that's been under
Cu y a lot of heat and pressure.䠯H It's further away,
but it's flatter,X more sheer surfaces,Cu which make it
a little easier to stack. Cu Ѡ Today, I'm going to work
on finishing the stone work.젥P See if I can get that done.Cu!ɠ I admit, just from
a calorie perspective,젲P this shelter is overkill
for this game.Cu@!'I But it's something
I want to do. Certainly, getting food
is the priority.\ But I think I can do thisCu!>i without threatening
my length of stay.x This season might
go really long.Cu!U9 And so to spend energy
to make this shelter I think will pay off
over time.Cu!jQ I'm going to sleep
really comfortable and warm,p so I won't burn calories
as much.Cu@! If I can continue
to catch fish, I don't see any reasonԠ
why I can't stay here
indefinitely.Cu!0 .,Cu! .Cu! .lCu"𠋡 .Cu"3 Oh, my gosh.Cu"V Oh, my gosh.ܠ
 Damn it.tCu"u One weak spot,
that's all it took.Cu" Not good.Cu" I know exactly where
that weak spot was too.D And I was ignoring it.4Cu" Paid the price.
I should have-- I should have gone back,
back when I saw it starting.,Cu"' When I built
that section of that corner, $ I used stone
that I shouldn't have.Cu"砼 Little footage of
the devastation from this side. Cu#" Missing that corner,
it's in a very fragile state.d And more of this wall
can easily collapse.Cu#Aߠ I feel like
I can't recover from this.
ܠ@ It's lost its integrity.
Cu#X7 It's over and done.

 I need to reassess.
Cu#ng And in the calorie game,
is it worth it at this point?Cu#ޠ Burning a lot of calories.
Can't keep that up.T I need to get fish again.Cu# So I'm going to go check
on my fishing poles.
Cu#^ If you're not getting
enough calories,䠳H that affects not just
your energy level,Cu@# but it affects
your mental health, and your mental game.x If you're not taking care
of that calorie need,DCu# a lot of other issues
are going to come up.\Cu$ So I just checked
my fishing lines,젝P and I've got snags.Р Two snagged hooks.Cu$$ǡ I can't afford to lose those,
so I'm going to dive for them.
dCu@$C I've learned
through experience that the things
I value the most,
< the times I've had
the most growth, Cu$^ are usually connected
to some form of struggle.
3Cu@$sU One of the greatest gifts
that our parents gave to us was the opportunity
to do difficult things.Cu$M To not rescue us from them.Cu$ Got it. Difficult times were seen
as an opportunity for growthCu$ rather than as
a negative thing. $ OK.
Time to get hook number two.DCu$m Going on a 50-mile hike
with the Boy Scouts
<
 and having blisters
on my feet, feeling the pain,Cu%5 but then arriving
at our final destination䠾H and having accomplished that
was deeply satisfying.Cu@%9 I don't think
you can be truly happy\ and feel the depth
of happiness unless you've also suffered.Cu%P䠪 Those two things,
they coexist.
Cu%t4 Ugh.Cu%L Dang it.x Lost one of the hooks.Cu% And certainly,
it's been a struggle for me. I have deep admiration
for everybody
Cu% who's ever been
on the "Alone" show.4
 I think they're courageous.Cu@%ޜ It takes a tremendous
amount of courage, to go and do this. To put yourself out there
in the public eye.dCu@%젹 To go through an experience
where you're going to burn yourself down,
you know, psychologically4 and physically,
and let the whole world\Cu@&T see you go through
that process, that takes a lot of courage., And there's a high risk
of failure with that.$Cu&4 But struggle is important.
And success is possible.Cu@&Kơ Sometimes it just takes time,
but you persist, keep trying.젼P So that's what I'm going
to do, just keep trying. tSk{e?H䷎9P<cWT^L,lfEoԻx<E$kĻLT
