session of group therapy.

psychiatry

by spreading information about

to the need for it.

This is a prop from one of
the new psychiatry shows.

It is for psychiatrists whose
patients

are well enough to sit up.

By and large, most psychiatrists

prefer the conventional couch.

They say this is fine,

except that they don't find

as much change left in the
cushions.

Actually, this is called a
loveseat,

and in my opinion,

whoever named it that was a very
sick man.

This evening's drama is called
Beyond the Sea of Death.

It is about Grace Renford,
a distant admirer,

and a message from
beyond the sea of death.

- [Minnie] Grace, Grace!

- [Grace] I'm all right, Minnie.

- I'll come up with you.

There's a young man who's come

Where are we and why are we

This is where Grace Renford
lives.

She does all her cooking
in this kitchen over here,

eats her breakfast and her
supper there.

The bed pulls out of the wall.

- I still don't understand.

- And she does secretarial work.

And over here,

you can see her clothes
are nice, but inexpensive.

- Well, what you need is an
inexpensive straight jacket.

apartment looks about right

for a girl in my situation?

- In your situation I'd

- Minnie, this is where
he is coming to dinner.

It deals with things
like Oriental philosophy.

- And you answered it?

- Well, yes, but he was lonely,
Minnie.

He just wanted somebody to
correspond with back home.

He's an American from Boston
originally.

- Oh, darling (chuckles).

- Well, he doesn't know who I
am.

Grace Renford, Post Office
Box 38305, San Francisco.

Three weeks ago he wrote

that he was coming home for a
vacation,

and he, he wanted to come
to San Francisco to see me.

Well, he just flew in today,
and--

- You invited him for dinner.

- Yes, tonight.

- A man you've never even seen.

- Minnie, I know him.

I know all about him through his
letters.

I didn't tell you about it,

because I was afraid you might
think I was being foolish.

- And you're so right.

- Oh, Minnie.

- Well, you thought I'd be
happy that you're having a nice,

cozy supper party with a
man you don't even know?

- You weren't even listening.

- I am listening.

You said he writes a beautiful
letter.

He probably got A's in
penmanship.

Let me tell you a lot of
bums write pretty things

and make pretty speeches like.

- You wouldn't believe

I just took a taxi.

- I thought it might be
nice to have dinner here

instead of a restaurant.

It's a lot easier to talk.

I splurged and bought us steaks.

There are sleeping
dreams and waking dreams.

traveling in my job at first.

It's taken me from Juno,
Alaska, to New Delhi, India.

I've been in Bolivia for three
years now,

and it looks as though I
might stay there forever.

It's ah, it's not all mountains,
you know?

As a matter of fact, I have an
idea about,

I ah, I hope I'm not boring you.

- No, no, no, I'm really very
interested.

- Well, ah, what really
fascinates
me is the ah, timber land

to the east of the mountains.

It's ah, un,

it's undeveloped, of course,
but.

(Keith clears throat)

- I'm sorry, this, this steak is
tough.

I should've warned you.

I'm, I'm not a very good cook.

- It has a very good flavor.

- I'll get the coffee.

I forgot to put in the coffee.

I'm terribly sorry.

I wanted everything to be--

- (chuckles) You're such a
little idiot.

Do you really think I care about
the meal?

What's important is being here
with you.

- It's still hard for me to
believe that you are here.

I feel as if we've actually met

ridiculous,

altitude,

if I'd been transported.

As if I were someplace else.

Maybe I was here, Grace, with
you.

You know these lines.

Food, for instance.

- Now that steak's not

would you settle for scrambled

It just so happens I make the
best

scrambled eggs in South America.

- It's a deal.

- That's it.

- Then when they put the ball
into play,

it looks as if everybody's
running in 22 directions at
once.

Only it really isn't that
haphazard,

because they're using
some sort of strategy.

You know, Keith actually says
that they make up blueprints

for the football players to
follow.

- You learned a lot from
one game, didn't you?

- Oh, Minnie, I never knew there
were

so many things to enjoy.

Guess what we're doing tomorrow?

- Don't tell me.

You're gonna play
quarterback for Notre Dame.

- We are going to the zoo.

I haven't been to the
zoo since father took me

when I was eight or nine.

Remember how much he liked
animals?

- Yes, God bless him.

I hope there are dogs
and horses in heaven.

He was a great judge of

- Father would've like Keith.

takes her.

- But nobody lives in Bolivia,
except some Bolivians maybe.

- (chuckles) Well, we're gonna
live there.

In Potosi, one of the
highest cities in the world.

- Keith says it's simply
beautiful.

- Well, that's all right for the
Aztecs,

or whatever they are.

- Minnie, it's city of 50,000
people.

It has a railroad, an airport,

and I'll have an American
friend from the start.

Tomas Gonzalez's wife is an
American.

- Well, who is Thomas Gonzalez?

- He's my best friend.

I spend all my weekends at their
home.

That's where I get my mail.

As a matter of fact,

Thomas and I are thinking of
going into business together.

We think there's a great future
in lumber.

- Lumber business?

That'll take a lot of money
to get started, won't it?

- Yes, it will, and I have no
capital.

- Minnie's wondering how
much of my money you'll need.

- Well, I thought you'd have
told her.

- I wanted you to.

- Well, Miss Briggs, I

I had a feeling of belonging

trying to find a housekeeper for

and I'm gonna look for the
house.

- So, after a week of shopping,

I think I found a dress
to be married in at last.

It's not really a
wedding dress, of course,

but I thought it would
useful to wear later on

for small dinner parties.

Incidentally, I've learned the
proper way to broil a steak.

So I must go back to
the mine again tomorrow,

but Tomas has heard of a house,

and I'm hoping to see it this
weekend.

He worked in a chemical plant.

He was killed instantly.
