I miss home something terrible.

My family and me live,
like, all of us live

within ten miles of each other.

on these two squid boats.

KEOGHAN: He's been fishing
since he was 12 years old.

Does anybody know
what a fathom is?

-Six feet.
-These two nets

right beside you,

200 fathoms.

-Wow.

you are going to be moving

200 fathoms of fishing net

onto these boats.

You'll be using power blocks.

They are going to be lifting
that 15,000-pound net.

Captains will be operating
the power blocks.

You guys will be making sure

that the nets are laid out
properly so when they come

off the back of the boats,
they don't get tangled up.

There's a certain way
to do that so you don't

run out of room on the boat

or have to stop the power block.

This is not about
any one individual today.

This is about how well

you all coordinate
with each other.

The second part of your job
is three containers

that are filled with all
the components for your neck.

You've got buoys,
your net and lead line,

which weighs
around 2,000 pounds.

You have to carry it all
and put them on these trailers.

-Oh, boy.
-First team

to complete both jobs
will be rewarded

$12,000 for today's win

and today's Badge of Honor.

I'm feeling pretty
confident about this one.

to keep us level-headed.

We've had one before with her

as crew boss, so we felt
it was a good decision.

The trick is getting

all that net laid out

in a very tight space

without a tangle. Not easy.

Renée, you're on net.

Organization and communication
is what I excel at.

So on the boat I split
everybody into groups of two,

basing it on our personalities
as well as our strengths.

Stronger people were
out on the ends.

Ilima and Mister...

And then I'm gonna
give it back to you.

-All right.
-...and Jake and Larron.

Hold on, Larron,
you're giving me too much.

The more excitable of our group

was kind of split with somebody

who had a calmer demeanor, that
way they could work together.

And Renée and I were working
in the middle folding

the netting down.

JAKE:
I need you up here, Larron.

I can't roll it that quick.

Laura puts me and Larron up.
We're gonna take care

of the buoys, basically
roll them up in a coil.

You're-you're coiling it
the wrong way.

He was able to help feed 'em

to me and I could stack 'em.

You just got to keep it
smooth and hopefully

lays in there nice for you.

KEOGHAN: This is all
about coordination today.

Making sure that the cork
gets laid out properly.

And that line is heavy.

BETH: Let it fall to me
and then I'm gonna grab it,

Today I decide that Ellery
and Jorge are over on the lines.

Synethia and Serge in the middle
fanning everything out.

Hey, you guys can move back

-BETH: Perfect, Aly.

And then Aly and I had
a nice rhythm going

taking care of the buoys.

I look at the water and
I know that this is my home.

-Synethia, push that over.
-Yeah.

-Yep, I got it.
-KEOGHAN: Good communication

coming from Dirty Hands.

But Savage Crew
with a slight lead.

Coming across the land,

-JAKE: You're good.
-[whooping]

I'm in the net,
so I'm going to the land,

to the sea and I'm sweeping.

We had it really moving,
you know, almost dancing.

But then these buoys are
coming right down on my head.

Why does that keep happening?

Think of the amount of pressure
that is going through that power

block as it pulls this
extremely heavy net up and over.

-It just is falling
really easily.
-Yeah.

Beth does give us an advantage.

She has worked on ships
and she knows

how to fold up the buoys.

If you don't lay
the buoys out right,

they'll topple over or
they'll take up too much room.

That orange buoy in the pile of
net indicates the halfway point.

Who is going to get there first?

BETH:
Hey, let's go, guys!

-Y'all got it? Y'all got it?
-Yep. [grunts]

KEOGHAN:
Savage Crew with the lead

-so far.
-[whooping, cheering]

That orange
buoy is making its way up.

Dirty Hands right there.

But they are slightly behind.

The orange buoy signifies that
we have half of the job done.

It just gave us more motivation

to keep on
going and work our hardest.

I'm going to have to move back
with my buoys. I'm too high.

Well, you're going
to run out of space.

It was just coming down

extremely fast
and we couldn't keep up

with it to separate it.

Hold on a second.
Don't feed no more.

KEOGHAN: Jake telling Captain
Pete to stop the power block.

LAURA: Come on, guys,
can't stop now.

We're trying to figure out
where we were going wrong.

Come in more with the buoys.

You're allowed to go over it.

LAURA:
Come on, guys.

KEOGHAN: And here comes
Dirty Hands' orange buoy.

It's coming.

KEOGHAN:
Dirty Hands have caught up.

Their orange buoy went over
almost at exactly the same time.

I hear that they have
to yell stop on the other side

because they didn't set up
their buoys appropriately.

Can we get more speed?

More speed. There you go.

Then I start calling
for the boat captain

to pick up the pace. I knew that
we were getting in a rhythm.

We're halfway, guys.

-We got a lot more coming.
-JAKE: Hold on!

Slow it up, don't feed no more.

Okay.

Come on, we're wasting time.
Come on, guys.

Well, I-I... [grunts] Hold on.

LAURA: We were running out
of room where the buoys were,

so that's where we were
kind of struggling.

Ilima, come here.

Wait. Don't pull it!

It's gonna fall!

LAURA: The technique
of wrapping them I don't

think was the most efficient.

So we're trying
to get the buoys over

to the guys so they can keep

setting them, so we can
keep going with the netting.

Jake, we'll take care of it.

-You guys get more going.

can't stop now.

We'll take care
of this part real quick while

-it gets ready, there you go.
-KEOGHAN:
Dirty Hands have caught up.

They have got more of their net
on the back of the boat

after being behind.

some catching up to do.

After we finish putting

our net on our boat,
we got to move

these three big
container bins full

of the lead line,
the buoys and the rope

onto a trailer bed.

KEOGHAN:
These are the components
for a fishing net.

Let's everybody lean this back.

SERGIO: The key to moving
these three containers

is how heavy are they?

Can we load one
of these containers

on the trailer
without emptying it?

-Tilt it up, tilt it up.
-No, no, stay here.

Beth, we need all the muscle.

I need more on this side.

You're gonna have
to muscle this up to me.

The whole pile is falling.

Hold on. Stop.

LAURA:
What happened?

KEOGHAN: Savage Crew asking
Captain Pete to stop that

power block for the third time.

LARRON:
It's getting really intense

'cause we've had a couple things

that haven't laid perfectly.

You're like, okay,
we're behind now.

Come on. We're wasting time.

-Come on, guys.
-LARRON: Guys, guys!

The whole thing
is going to collapse.

We need a hand over here.

[Larron groans]

KEOGHAN: Nice work! Dirty
Hands with the lead so far,

Second part of the job is
to move these three

containers onto the trailer.

[groans]

Savage Crew have come
to a standstill.

-I'm going to have to go back.

-What are you doing?

-They're stuck over there.

Getting our net aboard the ship.

Jake and Larron were having
a bit of trouble.

The net was starting
to fall forward.

Sometimes faster is slower.

Especially in this, uh,
situation.

Dirty Hands have their first
container up on their trailer.

container's the lightest.

We knew that we could
pick it up and put it

on the trailer using leverage.

The second container
that we tackled was the nets.

Same thing.

Everybody pull back.

This one's heavier.

ALY: We thought
that we could do the same.

Use the leverage.

-Ready?

[shouting, grunting]

It was a lot heavier
than we thought.

KEOGHAN: Savage Crew getting
towards the end of their net.

-Can they catch up?
-Slow and steady, guys.

Get it right so we don't have
to stop. We're almost there.

we got to get higher.

Can they get this very
heavy net up onto the trailer?

[grunting]

-Yeah!

LAURA: We're finally done
moving our net.

Now it's time to
hit it into overdrive.

KEOGHAN: Dirty Hands are now
moving on to the lead line.

KEOGHAN:
2,000 pounds of line

that they've got
to get on that trailer.

-Let's just get it.
-There was no way

we could just pick it up.
It was very heavy.

-Tighter, we don't want
to spread it out too much.
-Yeah, not too far.

So we start laying it down on
the pavement in a loop fashion.

-They got to be
long coils, okay?
-Yeah.

KEOGHAN:
Savage Crew not giving up!

We got to lift these up.

KEOGHAN: They have two
containers that they move

very quickly
over to their trailer.

[grunting]

on for Savage Crew.

to put their second

container up onto their truck.

-[shouting, grunting]

Jake used some power there
to pull that up.

Wow, look at Savage Crew
moving at lightning speed.

Made up a huge amount of time.

-Larron, get up top!

KEOGHAN:
Working together as a team
and moving that heavy line.

No double handling
like Dirty Hands.

-LAURA:
Stand and hold! Stand and hold!
-LARRON: Come on, guys!

Laura decided, "Let's do
an assembly line. Let's just

"be really efficient
with what we're doing,

minimize the trips
that we're making."

Being a coach
gives her experience

to look into a situation
and say, "All right,

here's the best way
that we can do that."

-LAURA: Keep it in line.
-MISTER: [grunts] Push.

leaning into that!

Ellery's using his back.

ELLERY:
When we think that we have take
out enough of the lead line,

we would move it closer
to the flatbed.

-SYNETHIA: This side is stuck.

-We're not gonna be able
to get this up like that.

ELLERY:
We realized

that it was still heavy.

I look over and I notice
that Savage Crew

has caught right back up to us.

have picked up the pace!

SERGIO:

Savage Crew's got it down

to an exact science,
like an assembly line.

We have to go
a little bit faster.

We don't want them to sneak in

[groans loudly]

MISTER:
But the lead rope was

the heaviest.

-[grunting]

My arms are burning.

None of us are fishermen.
So once we got back on the land,

we made up a lot of time there.

I have been deployed

in the military overseas,

and one
of the biggest morale booster

The worst part of Mail Day
is when you didn't get

the care package.
I mean, it kills your morale.

To see six care packages,

it meant
that I was receiving a package.

SYNETHIA:
This is my daughter.

SERGIO:
Wow.

And she wrote me
a little letter that says,

"Hey, Mom, I miss you. I hope
you're doing good over there,

"and always remember
I'm good home by myself.

-I love you."
-[laughter]

A big book.

And my angel on my wing, my mom.

This woman is tough as nails
right here.

I'm telling you, you guys, uh,

my brother,

not being able to say goodbye to
him the proper way,

having to see him
through a window...

is what really broke my heart
and my family's.

We're all still trying
to pick up the pieces.

So...

this box means everything to me.

[sighs]

My gosh.
[sniffles]

Whew.

So, that's me and my,
um, brother Braeden.

We do everything together.
He's, uh...

He's my best friend. Um...

And that's my family
in Tennessee this year,

when I went to visit them.

That package
is pure motivation for me.

My number one goal in being here
is to earn money

in order to relocate
to be with them.

It just reminds me of why I'm
here and that they got my back.

My brother just got a new job.

He's a firefighter.

This is my mom when my dad was

in Houston
on the heart transplant list.

We finally found a hospital
that was willing to take him in.

This is why I'm here--

to continue to fight for them.

This is the first time I've
ever been away from my family.

Letters from my mom,
my dad, my girlfriend.

It got me a little emotional.

Made me realize just how much
I'm missing out on.

Oh, God.

-ALY: Aw.

JORGE:
This is the longest
I've been away from my son.

I sleep with him every night,
and...

he cuddles up next to me.

I tend to hold a lot of emotion
inside. The last time I cried

was probably
when my dad passed away

when I was 12 years old.

Just seeing all their faces
and being away

just really touched me.

I told everybody

-I was gonna come in clutch...
-[cheering]

...with the Hawaiian candies.

She know I love nuts.

[laughter]

Feels good
to get a piece of home.

ILIMA: With that care
package yesterday, I'm reminded

of why I'm here.
That definitely was a booster.

Those of you who
have punched out, have a seat.

ILIMA:
What it means to me
to be tough as nails

is persevering
and pushing on through.

My brother lost his life
back in 2002

due to a car accident.

He was ejected from the car.

It was definitely

a tragic, tragic morning.

I was 16 at the time

and had to identify my brother.

It's definitely

something heavy that I wear
on my chest every day.

I wear a lot of stories
on my body.

My first tattoo was
actually my brother's name

and an independent star.

He was so talented and artistic,

and he had stars
all over his head at one point.

I love stars
because of my brother.

I wear it proudly.

So, let me tell you
a little bit about the job.

We have been using ice

to help preserve food
for thousands of years.

Going back into the 1800s,

there used to be an ice cart
that would go around the cities

with big blocks of ice
like this,

and it would drop off
at the various businesses.

-Awesome.
-Ice is obviously a great way

of keeping food nice and fresh,

and it's certainly used
in a warehouse like this

where they package seafood.

-[beeping]
-Your job

is to crush three times
your body weight in ice.

-Wow.
-When that work whistle blows,

you'll be running
to the far end of the warehouse

and you'll be going down
to that freezer down there.

Inside the freezer
are these big blocks of ice.

These blocks weigh
about 300 pounds.

-[gasping, whistling]
-Oh, man.

You're gonna want to start

Break it down into small pieces

so it will fit
through the grates that you see

at the top of each
of your workstations

and into those big containers.

As you can see,
three times your body weight

is displayed on the scales.

Fill up those buckets with ice
as fast as you possibly can

and get that countdown to zero.

individual competition,

KEOGHAN:

They are motivated today!

LARRON:
I want to be the first one

in the ice cooler.

BETH: Everybody gets down there

in, like, a jumbled mess.

-Sorry.

I can't even get

There it go.

KEOGHAN: Larron, the first one
out with a block of ice.

LARRON:
I decided not to use the tongs.

Pushing it is incredibly easy.

I'm literally gliding back,
just trying not

to lose my grip.

KEOGHAN:
Whoa!

Jake with an overtaking
maneuver, sliding

right past Larron.

SYNETHIA:
Let's go, Ellery!

Jorge, you got this.

KEOGHAN:
Wow!

Mister, the first
to start smashing.

Go, Sergio!

I use a sledgehammer daily
on my job to pound stakes.

My strategy,
you know, right away,

I said, "Okay,
Serge, pace yourself."

KEOGHAN: Sergio going with
a cross-hitting technique.

SERGIO:
I'm 215, so I had to smash out

645 pounds.

That's a lot of weight to smash.

Ice flying everywhere.

JORGE:
As a concrete form setter,

I use a sledgehammer
all the time,

so I learned how
to swing it right.

You're not using your power,
but you're using your momentum.

SYNETHIA:
Oh, Mister!

Yeah. He's going crazy, man.

MISTER: I've never
chopped up a block of ice.

Nah.

[yells]

I go to the freezer and get it.

It's already ready.
[laughs]

Big hits coming from Laura.

Look at the power coming
through that sledgehammer.

Wow!

LAURA: My theory is
crush the large pieces of ice

with the sledgehammer
and then I'm gonna grab

the smaller sledgehammer
to try and

strategically hit
some of the smaller pieces

to be able to fit
them through the holes.

-Go, Jake!
-Nice work, Jake.

Jake has smashed
his ice extremely quickly.

JAKE: We're not messing
around with the small tools.

We're going for the big dogs.

I believe that sledgehammer
was an eight-pounder.

I'm used to using
16, 20 pounders at work.

I won't get tired
swinging that hammer.

KEOGHAN: Jake is
the first to start putting

ice through his grate
and into his container.

Remember, everybody's got
to count down to zero.

Three times their body weight.

ELLERY: I'm gonna have
to break up 549 pounds.

I should've lost some weight
before I came on this show.

[laughs]

Ilima has the lead
at the moment.

390 pounds to go.

Go, Ilima!

Ilima is a beast,
like, hands down.

Jorge has picked up
his work rate.

He's down to 470.

Beth, 460.

Laura, 436.

Beth and I started
with a similar weight.

I at least need to keep pace
with her to stay in contention.

KEOGHAN: Ilima's gone back
for her second block.

Ellery's gone back
for a second block.

Jorge running back
for another block of ice.

Whew, Ilima's work rate
is frantic today.

She's still with the lead. But
Beth is right there with her.

Mister not too far behind.

Ellery has crushed
a ton of ice so far.

SYNETHIA:
Let's go, Ellery!

But the lead
is still with Ilima.

ELLERY:
All I heard is "Ellery and
Ilima, Ellery and Ilima."

I am ignoring it.

Ellery and Ilima, neck and neck.

-"Ellery and Ilima."
-Ellery the first
under 200 pounds.

He has the lead.

Ilima is at 203.

"Ellery, Ilima," and then
out of nowhere I hear...

Oh, and Jorge
now with the lead.

I'm like, "Jorge.
Where did he come from?"

SYNETHIA:

KEOGHAN:
Jorge had a huge amount
of work to catch up, and he has.

JORGE: The hardest
part of my job is wearing

our bags every day, all day.
They're very heavy.

But you have to still be
fast at what you're doing.

Let's go, Ellery.

KEOGHAN:
Firefighter Ellery doing
a fantastic job today.

He's highly motivated.

He's a little heavier than
some of the other competitors,

so he does have
a lot of ice to crush.

ELLERY: My endurance is
definitely one of my strengths.

When you are fighting a fire,

you can't say, "Hey, boss,
can I take a break?"

The job is
about mind over matter.

KEOGHAN:
Ellery takes the lead,
now Jorge highly motivated.

This is where stamina kicks in.

Oh, this is gonna be close.

I'm running out of ice
and I keep hearing

Ellery's right on me.

KEOGHAN:
Ellery with the lead,
closely followed by Jorge.

He's about ten pounds behind.

I have to either go
get more ice or just pick

up all the chunks that I got
lying all over the floor.

KEOGHAN:
Ilima is in third.

But will Ellery
and Jorge have to run

back and get another
block of ice?

And Jorge is running.

JORGE: I made the decision
to run and get more ice.

I feel like he's gonna
beat me because of this.

But I don't have quit inside me.

KEOGHAN: Ellery with the lead,
Jorge is gone.

ELLERY:
I'm looking at the ground.

I'm running out of ice.

And I am picking up
every bit that I can.

SYNETHIA:
Go, Jorge!

ALY:
Don't stop, Ellery.

KEOGHAN:
Ellery with the lead,

closely followed by Jorge.

this whole competition so far,

I've been pushing
and conserving my energy

and trying to stay motivated.

been riding kind of right along

in the middle on almost
every individual challenge,

and the middle is shrinking.

And Mister gets the job done.

LARRON: I'm loading ice in
as fast as I can.

I'm fitting it every which way.

The margin of error
is incredibly slim.

Sergio, Jake and Larron,
Nobody wants overtime.

JAKE: I picked my head up,
and I can't believe

that everybody else is done.

I mean, I haven't paid attention

to farther down
on the outsides of me.

KEOGHAN:
Who's it gonna be?

Larron gets the job done.

Larron, you are safe
from overtime.

-Golly.
-That was difficult.

But now I'm one step closer
to being

with my family,
uh, in Tennessee.

Two biggest fellas now

are headed into, uh,
the overtime challenge.

Sergio is a great competitor,
but I'm no stranger

to working late,
working long days,

and having to exert my body,
you know,

to the point where I feel
it's going to break.

SYNETHIA:
You got this, Sergio.

SERGIO: Jake is gonna give me
a run for my money,

so I have a challenge
ahead of me.

I just have to go for it.

On the work whistle.

[work whistle blows]

[players shouting, clamoring]

KEOGHAN:
25 boxes need to be made.

Eight staples in the bottom

part of the box,
eight staples in the top.

As a foreman in my industry,
I don't have any experience, uh,

packing squid, but I'm used
to taking on a big task.

I don't punch out
till my job's done.

LARRON:
There we go, Jake.

KEOGHAN:
Looks like they're going with

making multiple boxes
at one time.

I don't know
anything about building boxes.

I am worried about how efficient

and how quickly I'm going
to be able to build these.

-Let's go, Sergio, you got it.
-Let's go, Sergio, you got this!

ILIMA:
Let's go, Jake.
You got this, bud.

Did you see the way
he's folding that?

Sergio, you ever work
in a pizza shop?

Sure, been around the block.

It looks like you have
five bottoms made,

and he's making
the tops for those boxes now.

Jake working
on his ninth bottom.

JAKE: I decided I want
to build ten boxes first.

Then I could package them,
then do ten more.

And then as I was running
out of steam at the end,

I would just have five then.

-ELLERY: Good job, Sergio.
-KEOGHAN:
Remember, we got to get

40 pounds of the squid
into these boxes.

15 pounds on that first scoop.

Sergio looking for 40 pounds.

All right,
more than enough right there.

So he's taking some of it out.

You see that, now he can
use it for next time.

KEOGHAN: You got to get that ice
completely covering the squid.

Meanwhile, Jake's decided

that he wants
to do a lot of boxes.

JAKE: You know, I'm just trying
to think about what my dad

always said to me
when we race Motocross.

Don't worry
about anybody else here.

He says, "It's just you, and you
just be smooth and efficient."

KEOGHAN: Sergio is
already onto his second box,

Just over 40 pounds
before he starts

putting in the ice.

Jake is starting
to work on his squid.

He has ten boxes made.

Sergio went with five boxes.

LARRON:
The way that Sergio is going,

I'd be saying Sergio right now.

-SYNETHIA: Let's go, Sergio!
-LARRON: Good job, Jake.

ILIMA:

SYNETHIA:

KEOGHAN:

KEOGHAN:

All of a sudden I look over
and I got squid everywhere.

Sorry, Squidward. Sorry.

Sergio, that squid
does not count.

It can't be sold.

Yeah, no, no worries.

I didn't panic. I just
kept pushing from there.

KEOGHAN: We got to get
40 pounds into these boxes.

Good job, Serge! Keep going.

-[grunts]
-KEOGHAN: While Sergio

starts to clean up,

Jake has got a lot of squid.

JAKE: When I start
filling the boxes, I notice

I can pick up more than 40
in one scoop

LAURA:
Breathe through it.

JAKE: That's gonna save me a ton
of time.

Even if I can't build the boxes
as quick as Sergio,

I know I can load and put this
ice in there quicker than him.

KEOGHAN: He just has to cover
the top of the squid with ice.

-That's another box.
-ILIMA: Don't lose it,
don't lose any boxes.

You got this, bro!

KEOGHAN:
Jake with five complete.

Sergio has got a fourth
on the conveyor belt.

He's lost one.

Come on, Sergio,
keep pushing, man.

-Keep pushing.
-[Jake grunts]

KEOGHAN:
Jake's on a roll,
packing these boxes.

Squid juice squirting
all over the floor.

I guess both vans are gonna
get some nice squid smell

in them tonight.

-Oh, thank you.
-Yeah.

Oh, easy now!

SERGIO: There was squid
on the floor, you know?

Then you had to watch your step.

Ooh!

I about fell on my face.

Oh, goodness.

It was like trying
to dance on butter.

[grunts]

[whoops]
Heavy lift there from Jake.

That takes a lot of power
to lift up.

LARRON:
Keep those feet moving.

-Keep them moving.
-KEOGHAN: Sergio with a scoop.

28 pounds on that scoop.

He's going for a second scoop.

LAURA:
Focus on you, Jake.

KEOGHAN: Jake has
been pouring right on the money,

and he does it again.

That one-scoop maneuver is
saving Jake a lot of time today.

Seven boxes complete for Sergio.

Jake's back to making
bottoms on his box.

He's got ten boxes complete.
Can Jake maintain this pace?

BETH: Serge, you need big
scoops, big guy, big scoops.

[grunts]

SERGIO:
Jake is an animal.

And I knew that guy was gonna
be pulling squid out

of that tank
like it was two pounds.

[grunts]

So I knew he had
an advantage in scooping.

I just knew I could
not let anything stop me.

Just keep moving.

ALY: Come on, Sergio,
you got this, let's go.

KEOGHAN:
And there's 17 for Jake.

-In the bag, bro.
-There you go. There you go.

Come on, Serge, come on!

KEOGHAN:
Sergio's with 15.

He's got to try to catch up
with making boxes.

20 boxes complete for Jake.

He has five to go.

[shouting, clamoring]

ELLERY:
Jake don't have any more squid.

There's 21,
here comes box number 22.

LARRON:
Five more. Five more.

There you go, Sergio!

KEOGHAN:
Sergio has not given up.

Jake has his 25 boxes filled up.

It's your last one,
let's load it up! Take it home!

Jake,
all he has to do now is pack
