the tasks that we are assigned.

The last team challenge,

a lot of emotions came out.

But I think it was a-a needed
discussion, so coming up

to today's challenge,
the score is one to one.

Our strategy is to see
if we can implement

our communication skills again

and get this win.

Just take our past mistakes
into consideration

to make our next
challenge better.

SERGIO:
Synethia, how you feeling today?

SYNETHIA: The fact
that I had to punch out,

it didn't make me sad

I still get to compete
with you guys.

ALY:
Jorge,

I'm kind of interested
to know about like

how you grew up and stuff

'cause you're super mature
for your age,

like you're a year
younger than me.

My father passed
when I was 12 years old

in a tragic accident.

I'm the big brother,
I have a little sister.

And I kind of had to grow up

kind of a lot faster
than most people.

-Yeah.
-I had to step into that role

as the man of the house.

It was really hard trying
to figure out,

you know, who I was.

I had to worry about
my sister and my mom,

and my goal the whole time
was just to, you know,

be there for them.

We've endured a lot together.

Tough circumstances make,
you know, stronger people.

that needs to be planted.

SERGIO:

noticed it's raining.

KEOGHAN:
Welcome to
Devil Mountain Nursery.

They got a million trees here.

The tree-growing business
is a billion-dollar business

here in the United States.

Today you guys are going to
be pulling trees for an order.

There's a total of 40 trees
listed on this work order.

-Whew.
-Ten different species.

Wow.

The names are either
Latin or Greek.

-[laughter]
-There you go.

I'm not so good
with the Latin names.

But I know somebody who is.

It's my dad, he's in the garden
right now in New Zealand.

He's worked a lot with plants.

He's an agronomist. I'm gonna
give him a little call.

Hey, good morning, Dad.

JOHN:
Well, it's good morning to you,

just as it's good morning here.

-Say hello to my dad.
-[cheering]

[all greeting]

Dad, I was wondering
if you could give the

proper pronunciations of these
plants that they need to find.

The ten different species.

JOHN:
Now, your first one

is ficus nitida.

And it's related to
the rubber tree.

The next one is interesting.

It's olea, "Little Ollie."

Which means it's a member
of the olive family.

Yeah, Dad, just
the names is good.

Of course, well adapted
to Mediterranean climate

-such as California.
-Yep.

Figure out what lot
your tree is in.

You're gonna be pulling
40 trees.

Got to fill that out
that work order

as fast as you possibly can.

Pull your trees,
take them to the loading dock,

tie everything down,

and as soon as
the driver moves the truck back,

the job will be done.

-[whoops]

Aaron, you've gone through
the nursery already

and selected the trees
that they need to pull.

AARON:
Correct, yeah.

They'll all be marked
with a red tag.

The red tag will indicate

the team name

as well as the genus and species

of the tree you're looking for.

Get together, figure out
who's gonna be the crew boss

and we're gonna get
this job done in the rain.

-MISTER: Yeah.
-ALY: Yeah.
-JORGE: Yes.

I want to nominate Beth
as crew boss today.

Okay, I can do that.

BETH: As an electrician
on board the ship,

I have to follow
very detail-oriented

diagrams and drawings.

This is definitely
in my wheelhouse.

Make sure that
you're communicating

every time that you pull a tree.

LARRON:
I'm gonna be the crew boss today

if y'all are comfortable
with that.

I'm incredibly comfortable
with the organization

and details that is gonna be
involved in this.

I felt on the last team
competition,

I tried to speak up a couple
times, but...

nobody listened to me.

We find one, we figure out
what the name is,

where it is, how many
of them that we need.

I want to prove to my team
that I do have the skills

to compete in this competition.

The way that I'm dividing
up the team today

is we're gonna have
two teams of three.

We're gonna have Jake, Renée,
and Mister on the truck,

and then me, Laura and Ilima
in the Kabuto.

We're going to divide
and conquer

by even and odd numbers,

so we have a list
of ten, um, different plants

that we have to get
and the quantities of them.

My team is gonna take the odds,

Jake's team is gonna
take the evens.

JAKE:
So the directory, it's got
thousands of trees on there.

Tristania laurina.

These pens aren't gonna write.

My pen won't write either.

JAKE:
Today, in this challenge,

we're given, uh, pens,

it's pouring raining out.

I need anything dry to write on.

We-- I can't write on anything.

All of a sudden, I kind of look
down and I'm like, well,

the material
on the inside of my jacket

will stay dry.

So, I wrote down, um,

the numbers of the plants,
what areas they were in.

What was that last one?

JORGE:
Today, we have a list
of 40 trees and plants.

You have to really
figure out what numbers

are where
in the lot of the nursery.

We're comparing them to a map
that they gave us.

I'm telling you, write on this.

BETH:
Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's got it.

We need to go to 109 and 311.

Radio's on.

KEOGHAN:
Already on their way

to start picking up trees.

They've got to get
a total of 40 trees.

We're still in 502, so...

SERGIO: Look for the red tags
that say Dirty Hands.

We're out and about, searching,

it's like an Easter egg hunt
for trees.

I mean, the place
is massive, you know?

It's like football fields
of trees.

We're a little mind-boggled.

-What's your location?
-ALY: 312.

BETH: 312 is number ten
on your pick list.

The first impression
of the challenge

is that we're gonna be
really spread out.

And we're split up
in teams of three.

So, it was important
that everybody knew

what their job was.

You need to do number six,
it's in 310.

ILIMA:

No, I know,
we need a second, okay?

LAURA:
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

They got different ones
all mixed in here.

It's definitely difficult
to find these trees.

You got tags
all over the place.

You might see some tags,
but that might not be your tags.

They might be Dirty Hands' tags,
they might be another

customer's tags in there.

Where are you, baby?

-What are we looking for?

You know, nine out of ten of us

couldn't pronounce
any of these names.

[laughs] I can't.

The trees had to be

anywhere between 50
and 60 pounds apiece.

The soil was soaking wet,
it was drenched.

So, that was adding

more weight to the plant.

-JAKE: How many you got? Two?
-Two.

Renée, she never quit.

She drug trees

that were seven, eight foot

and had them out and ready.
She was just

doing a heck of a job.

Come here!
Listen, I got ten already.

Now I'm at lagerstroemia.

We do not have schinus molles.

We've already got four, okay?

Larron is staying very calm
as a crew boss

through the entire challenge.

We got to find schinus molle,

I realize, you know,
we're short.

the communication

a really hard time.

KEOGHAN:
Both teams have one

species of tree to pick up.

-ALY: 311 is here.
-Keep your eyes peeled.

KEOGHAN: They've left some
teammates behind so they can

start working on
tying things down.

Both teams have got to get their

trucks underneath
these massive tarps,

drop the tarps down,
wrap them up,

first team to get it through
this loading bay,

out for delivery
wins today's team challenge.

to get back to the loading dock

with their final trees?

few minutes of this challenge

and I'm feeling like
it's gonna be incredibly close.

I do believe that

I just started my business
a year and a half ago,

during the pandemic. I mean,

with three kids in college,

That's why I believe I'm here,

is because I'm a part
of not giving up,

working your-your ass off
just to get where you are.

I want to make my family proud

and I do not want
to go into overtime.

I definitely have to get
this challenge done

my boys to be like,

Here at the nursery,

one of the things that
they're doing

is constantly moving the trees

from one planter box to another.

Today, your job is you are
going to be moving a magnolia

from a 15-gallon bucket

and to then put them
into a planter

just like this right here.

So, when the work whistle blows,

you are going to build
the three by three planter.

All the tools you need
to get the job done

are laid out on your work bench.

You got a finished example
to look at here.

There are no plans.

Got to look,
see how it's constructed,

and put it together yourself.

Aaron is back. And he will be
making sure that

every planter box
is built properly

before you replant
your magnolia.

Now, Jake, you won the first
individual competition,

got a prize of $2,000 cash.

As a concrete form setter,

banding is something I do
all the time.

SERGIO:

a really quick start.

I actually had my box
built first.

So I'm like, yeah.

and that's when I realize
that I'm quarter of an inch

on all of my corners.

I think so, I hope so.

All I had to do was flip them.

I got to get this done.

to even come close to me.

KEOGHAN: One hour and 20 minutes
into this job, everybody.

What did Jorge do
that made him right?

ALY:
I look over at Jorge
and I realize

that I did not put

a big enough overlap on my
boards that had my notches.

So, I knew what I had to fix.

[grunting]

KEOGHAN:
Jorge already getting his
magnolia into his planter box.

[grunting]

KEOGHAN:
Somebody's walking home
with $3,000 today.

Jorge is stomping down the soil
into his planter box.

I look at the finished crate

and the only difference

that I can see is that the slats

panel when it's upright,

versus mine were on the
right side when it was upright.

I figured that was
the mistake I had made.

I started taking my bands off,

all of a sudden

The pain just took over.

into the job.

Jorge is the only one

I'm frustrated, I'm in pain.

I'm hearing,

RENEÉE:
Now I'm very frustrated,

but I knew that Jorge was done.

So I did look at Jorge's box

and noticed that the grooves

for the boards had to be
on the left side.

My head was like, "No."

Oh, stop doing that.

[grunting]

-[moaning]
-KEOGHAN: Mister
very frustrated,

MISTER:
Oh, my Lord.

This is the longest wood project
I've ever been on.

KEOGHAN:
Aly carrying this magnolia.

Yes! Nice move, Aly.

Larron puts his magnolia in.

[grunting]

[straining]

KEOGHAN:
Aly has her stencil out.

Looking for a thumbs-up
and she'll have second place.

And Aaron,

I know I'm not winning money,

but it was a confidence
booster for me.

I don't want to go

Sergio not giving up,
he is back in the game.

SERGIO:
The fire in my back
doesn't compare

to the fire I have
in my heart for my brother.

My brother passed away
February of 2021.

Unexpectedly.

He had bilateral pneumonia.

He went to the hospital
and the last three words

he told me was,
"I love you, brother."

Never saw him again after that.

He never came home.

We're all still trying
to pick up the pieces.

And right now I can hear
my brother saying,

"Bro, keep pushing,
keep pushing."

He gives me the strength.
Come on, brother.

JORGE:
That's right, Sergio.
Keep pushing, man.

KEOGHAN: Two hours into
this job, everybody.

That's why you're hurting.

MISTER:
Hardest part about
this planter box:

Scratching his head, thinking,

MISTER:
I'm getting in my head.

SERGIO:

Jake moving on to his stencil.

JORGE:

SERGIO:
I'm looking at this box
and all of a sudden,

I was like, "Oh, shoot."

I finally figured it out.

JORGE:

SERGIO:
I fix what I think is wrong.

He's thinking about his brother
today, you know that.

SYNETHIA:

KEOGHAN:

is getting a check.

KEOGHAN:

smashing in all these nails.

I had just came off

I'm gonna make sure
that I don't go back

to another overtime.

ILIMA:

You know, I can hear
my kids telling me,

KEOGHAN:
Ilima spraying on her stencil.

And Ilima gets the job done.

MISTER:
I'm just kind of reflecting
on what went wrong out there.

I kind of got in my own way.

I'm in overtime
with my teammate.

Renée is, you know,
a very hard worker.

She is definitely not
to be underestimated.

-Man.
-One of us is gonna
have to clock out.

Kind of heartbreaking.

JAKE:
Come on, you got a spot there.

RENEÉE:
I did keep plugging away.

Then time just lapsed.

Mister is very strong.

And I do have to dig deep
and find something

that's gonna give me
an edge over him.

Big day today.
There was a

stumble today, Renée, for you.

Attention to detail.

You're trying to go fast

Jorge has put his tray in,
I'm like, "What?"

Going into overtime,

I'm planning on
coming out ahead.

I'm a fighter,
I'm not gonna stop.

I know that there's a lot of
people that underestimate me.

But I definitely want
to show that I'm strong.

And show that I know
what I'm doing.

And I'm not gonna lose today.

MISTER:
Earlier today, I almost gave up.

I do put a lot of pressure
on myself.

But I just need
to stay focused and just

get out of my own way.

I think it's my duty
to think about my family,

you know, back home--

the reason why I came.

This is just one
of those moments

that it's all on the line.

So, I'm not punching out today.

Welcome to overtime.

Now, your job today

is you are going to be
repotting some plants.

Using these machines right here,
when that work whistle blows,

you have to identify
four different plants.

You're gonna find a board next
to your work areas that have

a number of plants identified

with photographs
and their Italian names.

You'll find the plants
in these piles right here.

You need to get six of each.

Once you have properly
identified all 24 plants,

bring them over
to your canning machine

and begin recanning them.

What'll you do is you'll take
some soil, put it into

one of the bigger pots
and repot the plants.

Move them along the conveyer
belt and then load them

onto the trailers.

Once you have all 24 plants
on your trailers,

the first of you to start up
your engines

and pull out of here
will stay in contention

for the Tough As Nailstitle.

If you are last,
you will be punching out.

Aaron is back
to oversee your job.

Ready to get to work?

-Ready.
-Yes.

To your workstations.

On the work whistle.

[work whistle blows]

ILIMA:
You got this, guys.

MISTER:
You have to find

four species

of different trees and bushes

in a group of

60 other trees, by picture.

KEOGHAN: Mister's lined up six
of his Little Ollies.

KEOGHAN:
That's it, Renée.

RENEÉE: As a mason, I do this
at work all the time.

I know what an olea is
and I know what a magnolia is.

I want to pick
those first and then

I'm just gonna try to look
at the leaves and figure out

-the other two.
-You guys got this.

ILIMA: It's very difficult to
watch your two family members

compete in OT.

I mean, they're both
pot for pot.

-[cheering]

KEOGHAN: Mister and Renée,
neck and neck.

-Can I get a check?
-AARON: Yep.

of the Little Ollies.

-KEOGHAN: We good?
-AARON: Mister's good.

MISTER: Now that I have all
these plants and trees,

I can just focus on replating
them in the new buckets.

Then I'll load them up on
my trailer until I'm done.

-We're good over here?
-We're incorrect here.

You need the arbutus marina.

[cheering]

KEOGHAN: Come on, Renée,
you got to fix that mistake.

RENEÉE:
I picked up the wrong plants.

I got to, like,
start really moving.

KEOGHAN:
Mister's already started
repotting his Little Ollies.

Plenty of time, Renée.

KEOGHAN: Come on, Renée,
you can still do this.

-SYNETHIA: You got this, Mister.
-JORGE: Come on, Mister.

KEOGHAN:

Renée with 24 of the plants.

AARON:
You're good,

KEOGHAN:
Recanning begins.

-She's two pots behind.
-ILIMA: Let's go, Mama,

RENEÉE:
Mister is a little bit
ahead of me.

So I have to pick up
the pace, right now.

[cheering]

KEOGHAN:
Stamping down that soil.

And she's going all the way to
the end of her conveyer belt.

There you go!

Dude, she just ripped that out.

RENEÉE:
I'm trying to do
three things at once.

Pick up the plant, grab the pot,
put it down, and hit,

and then start patting down,
then I put it in again.

So, you know,
you get into a rhythm.

-[cheering]
-ILIMA: Go, Renée!

KEOGHAN: Mister's got two,
he's working on his third.

MISTER:
I'm tunnel vision,
it's just me, dirt and a bucket.

And that's all I'm doing.

KEOGHAN:
There are right there.

Let's go, let's go.

KEOGHAN:
She's tied it up.

Mister with four done,
Renée working on her fifth.

[cheering]

You only get one shot.

KEOGHAN:
Renée has gone slightly ahead
of Mister at this point.

[cheering]

MISTER:
I'm sweating

like all get-out.

I'm just trying to move my feet

and hands as fast as I could.

LAURA:
Keep up the good work!

Ooh, she's got a lot
of soil in that one.

Yeah, I did.

KEOGHAN:
It made it very difficult

for her to get her root system

down into the pot.

ILIMA:
Slow and steady. You got this,
Mama, you got this.

KEOGHAN: Mister rolling four
plants down the conveyer belt.

ALY:
Let's go, Renée.

Let's go, Mister.

ALY:
Mister put four plants

across on the trailer

and had to do that
to fit everything.

And Renée didn't take
that into account.

She had them three across.

ILIMA:
You got this, Mister.
Don't lose it.

Don't lose your plant.

-SERGIO: Whoa, whoa.
-[others exclaiming]

ILIMA: You got this, Mister.
Don't lose it.

-Don't lose your plant.

KEOGHAN:
Renée sliding her fourth
magnolia onto the trailer.

But she's got to make room
on her trailer.

Looks like she's running
out of room.

She's gone three wide
instead of four.

KEOGHAN:
Oh, did she slide them
over nicely?

Four plants left for Renée.

[cheering]

for Mister.

LAURA:
Come on, get on them, Renée.
Keep working...

JORGE:
Let's go, keep moving.

SERGIO:
Are you kidding me right now?

My hands are sweating watching.

-[groans]
-[cheering]

KEOGHAN:
Mister wants it bad.

Renée, you want this?

RENEÉE: Oh, my God,
this is like so close,

so I'm trying
to go even faster.

Ahh!

-Go.
-JORGE: There you go, Mister.

KEOGHAN: Mister with two more
to get onto his trailer.

MISTER:
We're neck and neck.

I'm pushing it.

LAURA:

MISTER: I get my last one
on there, it barely fit.

KEOGHAN:
He gets it on.

-Mister, up onto his truck.

across the line!

LAURA:

MISTER:

I wanted to get out
of my own head.

And I'm just so happy.

LAURA: Here we go,

ILIMA:

KEOGHAN:
It's been a tough day
emotionally.

You were getting really
disheartened, but, uh,

you showed that
you have true grit.

It's a lot on the line, man.

What is on the line for you?

A legacy.

I feel like if I lose,

my family won't
look at me the same.

Do you really believe that?

No, but... that's what
I put on myself.

I just feel like it's my duty
to... to keep the family going.

My parents raised me right.

My dad had, um...

a heart transplant
a couple years ago.

And, uh...

just for him to still be living
here on earth is, uh,

is a blessing.

I-I just can't let him down.

So, I put it all
on the line for him.

To see my dad dwindle in his
health was very heartbreaking.

I don't know what I would do
if he would...

would've passed away.
