I'm the type of person,
when I need to get the job done,

I take the emotion out of it,
put my head down and I grind

and close everybody else out.

SERGIO:
What I do is not easy, you know,
it's not for the faint at heart.

The job has to get done,

and there's no room for tired.

ALY:
I think from first look,
they'll look at me and go,

"Why is this child here?"

But I'll arm wrestle
The Rock if I have to.

I feel like we got
a good group of people.

It's gonna be awesome.

LAURA:
Oh, there he is.

ELLERY:

-SERGIO: Well, it's time
to get it on, everybody.
-ALY: Let's go.

KEOGHAN:

Welcome to Tough As Nails.

Welcome to Catalina Island.

We're about 23 miles
off the California coast.

They've got wild buffalo here,

they've got beautiful beaches.

People come here to relax.

But guess what.

-Not us.
-You guys will not be relaxing.
-[laughter]

Now, as you know, you're
12 of America's toughest.

You have that combination
of strength, endurance, agility.

You've got life skills, and you
all have mental toughness.

But in the end,

only one of you is going home
with $200,000,

an all-new Ford Super Duty,
and the honor of being able to

say that you are our
Tough As Nailschampion.

[all cheering]

So to get things started,
why don't you tell America

a little bit about
what you do for a living?

I'm a heavy-duty diesel
technician from Austin, Texas.

I fix things that others can't,
and I keep America running.

-KEOGHAN: Love that.
-Yes.

I'm 54 years old.

I'm a war veteran.

-And I'm a New York City
firefighter.
-All right.

-We appreciate
your service, sir.
-Roger that.

I'm Renée.
I'm an owner of a mason company,

and I'm as tough as
the stones that I set.

I believe that your sons
have a nickname for you,

-which is?
-It's "Highlighter."

-Highlighter. I wonder why.
-I wonder why.

I'm a union carpenter
out of Local 714.

I'm here for my family.
We lost my brother in February.

And we're still, you know, we're
still trying to mend the pieces.

So I'm here to dedicate for him.
I worked hard to get here,

-and now it's time
to put the hammer down.
-ELLERY: Roger that.

I am Mister Frost.
That's M-I-S-T-E-R.

That is my real name.

-Your first name?
-My first name.

I am a welder,
and I'm bringing it all I got.

My name is Beth.

I'm a shipboard electrician,

and I'm here to prove
that hard work pays off.

I'm from Norfolk, Virginia,
and I'm a general contractor.

I'm in construction,
and my motto is: why not me?

I came to Tough As Nails
because of my daughter,

and I want to show
everyone that your past

-does not determine your future.
-Beautiful.

I forgot to say
I was a carpenter, too.

[laughter]

My name is Ilima.
I'm a construction worker,

and born and raised
on the Big Island of Hawaii.

And I just want to share
the love from Hawaii

with everybody here.

I'm 34 years old, from
a small town in Pennsylvania

called Little Meadows,
Pennsylvania.

Men and women
who work in the pipeline--

the natural gas industry--
are tough as nails.

My name is Jorge.
I'm a concrete form setter

and I'm going home with a truck.

Sounds like we're
going to be fighting it out

for that truck, everybody.

The good news is,
there's a cash prize for

the winners
of each individual challenge.

[cheers and applause]

Now, most of you
will be making your money

in the team competition.

Even if you punch out of
the individual competition,

you stay to compete
with your team.

That's what makes Tough As Nails
different; nobody goes home.

So we are going
to do the team pick.

The first two of you
to finish our challenge today

get to pick those two
teams of six.

-Sound good?
-[cheers and applause]

Well, as you can see,
this harbor has lots of

permanent moorings
for boats to safely tie up.

Each mooring has

a wand, making it easy
for boat owners

to tie up to their mooring.

The wand is attached
to a buoy, and underwater

there's an elaborate mooring
system made up of chains,

marine line and connectors,
all of which attach

to two heavy anchors
on the ocean floor.

The salt water really takes
a toll on these moorings,

so they need to be replaced
every couple of years.

And that is what you
are going to be doing today.

Replace a mooring system
with everything

you see here on the dock.

When the work whistle blows,
find the mooring service shop.

That's where you'll find
all the components you need

for your mooring system.

A new wand, freshly painted

buoy, and a container filled

with chains,
marine line and connectors.

Remember that
not everything floats.

So if you drop
something overboard

and it sinks, you're done.

Don't forget that you
can refer to the mooring system

plans that are
attached to the container.

You're also going
to need to pick up

an inflatable
eight-foot dinghy.

You'll need to pump that up
as well as an outboard motor.

The first two of you

to replace
an old mooring system

on Row "A" with a new one,
make it back to shore,

and cross between
the orange flags will be picking

-our two teams of six.
-Wow.

I want to introduce
you to somebody who has

replaced thousands of moorings
here in Catalina.

-Hayden is here.
-[applause]

Hayden is going to make sure

that you guys
get the job done right.

-Yeah. Good to see you.

Oh, man, I wish I could grow
a beard like that.

[laughter]

Is everybody ready to get

-Absolutely.

I want you to go out there and
I want you to make Hayden proud.

KEOGHAN:
On the work whistle!

[work whistle blows]

[whooping]

SERGIO:
I'm not a runner.
I'm a carpenter.

My work is steady pace.

Get it done, stay focused.

KEOGHAN:
And Larron-- the first

-to the mooring shed.
-[whooping]

LARRON:
I'm going as fast as I can,

make as few trips as I can
in carrying

all my supplies to the beach.

HAYDEN:
Oh, look at them.
Look at them go.

KEOGHAN:
Sergio pacing himself.
Ilima is, too.

Laura's already
laying out her boat.

Look at Renée.
You can't miss her.

RENEÉE:
My outfit is how I dress

when I show up to a job.

And some people like, "Oh."

But I'm very
physically strong and

I do know my stuff.

Jake-- the first
to bring down an engine.

That's a smart move.
Those things are heavy.

JAKE:
The motors can flood.

I didn't want to turn it
on its side or upside down, so

I'm propping my, uh,
motor up against my buoy.

Nice work, Jorge!

Running with the engine.
We haven't seen anybody

-run with an engine.
-HAYDEN: Oh, he's trying

to do the motor
and the dinghy all at once.

KEOGHAN:
That's Ellery.
He's not scared of hard work.

KEOGHAN:
Mister's already starting
to pump up his boat,

as is Laura.

Aly's starting to pump up.

Good endurance, baby.

KEOGHAN:
Larron and Jake
having a little conversation.

What do you think this is,
a holiday on Catalina?

-[Larron laughs]
-Let's do this. Come on.

That's nice work, Synethia.

The boats are getting inflated
very quickly.

Here goes Ellery.
He's the first in the water.

HAYDEN:
There we go.

KEOGHAN:
And Jorge has got his boat
in the water.

Look how
he laid his outboard out.

Let's hope he hasn't flooded it.

Ellery getting
his motor upright.

And Aly doing very well.
Look at that.

She's already got
her motor attached.

Ilima has her boat in the water.

Ellery is pulling away,

frantically trying
to get it started.

Who's going to be first
to make it out to the moorings?

Come on.

[grunt]

KEOGHAN:
They cannot get them started.

ALY:
I did struggle
getting my motor going

'cause I had laid it down.
Whenever you lay a motor down,

it floods gaskets in places
it's not supposed to be.

And my dad's going to give me
a hard time about that because

I know that,
and I should not have done that.

I don't want to disappoint
my family back home.

The reason that I went into
construction was because my dad,

but my first ever job was
actually at my grandparents'.

They taught me a lot.

I am really close
with my family.

I'd lost my grandparents, and

it was tough.

I-I'd never experienced
anything like that in my life.

[voice breaking]:
I know that
they can see what I'm doing,

and I hope
that I make them proud.

And Ilima's the first!
Our Hawaiian is heading out

-to the moorings.
-ILIMA: My motor was

the first one to start,
and I'm just thinking,

"I'm out of here.
I'm going out to that buoy,

and I'm gonna
get this job done."

HAYDEN:
Oh, we got another
started down here.

KEOGHAN:
And we have Jake!

But his propeller's in the sand.

JAKE:
My prop hit the ground.

It broke the prop.

Even though my motor was broken,

next best thing-- used

part of the buoy
to get out there.

I never quit,
even if things are tough.

When I'm under pressure,
that's when I perform my best.

Pipeline laborers are
basically the grunts of

the work site,

digging ditches, building walls.

And our job is probably one of
the most dangerous in America.

My job requires me
to be away from home.

Right when you start a pipeline,
they say,

"Don't make any plans
because you don't know when

you're going
to see your family again."

And I'm determined
to win this prize

and leave nothing on the table.

KEOGHAN:
Ilima's already started
working on her mooring.

Whoa! There we go, Sergio!
He will be the second

to get out to the moorings.

-Aly's heading out.
-HAYDEN: Oh, wow.

KEOGHAN:
Jorge has got his motor going,

and he's making his way out
towards Jake,

who has made it out
to his mooring without a motor.

HAYDEN:
Wow. Look at that.

I cannot believe
he used his wand

to get all the way out there.
That's insane.

KEOGHAN:
Ilima's having a good day.

She's got her new buoy
in the water.

-KEOGHAN: Sergio.
-HAYDEN: Look at him, yeah.

KEOGHAN:
He's doing all right.

Not easy working out
of a small boat like that.

You got to hold
all that chain on board.

And then
it's really hard trying

to disconnect the old mooring
system and connecting a new one.

All of a sudden,
you're in a tangled mess.

Ellery has decided
to ditch the motor.

HAYDEN:
He's swimming, man.

KEOGHAN:
He's swimming
out here in the bay

-to get the job done.
-[laughing]

ELLERY:
My engine would not start,
and after a while

I got frustrated,
and I'm like, "Okay,

this is not going to happen,
and I'm not going to give up."

Tough As Nails isn't just
about being physically strong.

It's about being
emotionally strong, as well.

That comes
from not only my military

and fireman background,
it also comes from my mom.

I was raised in Nevis. It's
a small island in the Caribbean.

My mother brought us
to the United States

when I was 16 years old.

Once I got here,

I spent 30 years
in the military. I loved it.

I retired
a sergeant first class.

You can come from any place.

It doesn't matter
your background,

it doesn't matter your creed,
it doesn't matter your religion.

KEOGHAN:
And now Beth is using her wand
as a paddle,

-just like Jake did.
-HAYDEN: Oh, there we go.

KEOGHAN:
Synethia, don't you give up.
You can do this.

That's right!

HAYDEN:
Ellery, you're going to have

to get back to your boat, man.

Ellery has spent more time
out of his boat

-than in his boat.
-HAYDEN: Than in the boat. Yeah.

KEOGHAN:
And, Hayden, look.

Jorge is meant to be working
on "A" Row like everybody else.

He's totally confused.

He's pulling up the mooring
from "B" Row.

What a waste of time.

And Larron's
in pretty good shape.

Got his whole buoy on board.

Oh.

KEOGHAN:
Oh! That's not good.

Oh.

KEOGHAN:
Oh! That's not good.

-I dropped it.
-KEOGHAN: That's game over.

Larron's lost the end
of his new line overboard

so he can't attach a new mooring
system and get the job done.

There's no getting it back
unless you go scuba diving.

LARRON:
Everything was going great

up until I started
connecting things.

And when I did that,
I dropped one of the ropes,

and it's-it's
a little dejecting.

KEOGHAN:
Ooh, and Aly is in trouble
with her mooring line.

ALY:
I'm pulling on my chain,
and I'm like,

"All right, I got this."

What the hell?

And it's not going anywhere.

And I'm like,
"Okay, I don'tgot this."

Son of a bitch.

KEOGHAN:
Ah, Jake's the second person now

to be dead in the water.

He won't
be picking a team either.

Yeah, his chain's sitting at the
bottom of the ocean right now.

JAKE:
The chain slipped out
of my hands,

so, uh,
that was kind of a bummer.

It's turning to hell
in a handbasket, Hayden.

-I literally can't move.
-Are you tied into something?

-Oh! Yeah, I am.
-Unclip yourself.

ALY:
I'm getting it.

JAKE:
She was actually clipped in

to her other buoy.

I had her unclip,

and I started helping her
pulling up her chain.

Since I couldn't do nothing
for myself,

I'm trying to go out
and help somebody else.

You, out.

Renée is working her way
through this mooring line.

Come on, A-7.

KEOGHAN:
Laura's doing really well.

Looks like she's methodically
working her way.

LAURA:
I think being mentally tough,

being able to adapt

to a situation--

that is one
of the biggest attributes

of being tough.

Out of college,
I actually got into coaching

Division One college lacrosse,
but

about three years ago, I had

gone down to visit my family,

and my father just
looked exhausted.

You could just see
how hard he was working.

I decided to hang up my coaching
whistle and pick up a hammer.

They would sacrifice for me,

so I felt like I should do
the same thing for them.

KEOGHAN:
Sergio replacing his old buoy

and connecting the new one.

He's already replaced his wand.

-[engine starting]
-Wow. Is that it for Sergio?

HAYDEN:
Oh, it looks like
Sergio is making his way back.

Has he got everything
to finish the job?

There's his old wand.
He needs that.

HAYDEN:
Look at that.

He's got to get his old buoy.

Nice work, Sergio.
Got to clean up the jobsite.

-He is highly motivated today.
-Wow.

KEOGHAN:
He looked us
in the eye and said

he wanted this job done
for his brother.

Will he be the first
to pick a team?

-And Sergio gets it done!
-There you go!

-Sergio!
-Sergio, bring it in here!

-[whooping]
-Wow, man!

SERGIO:
It feels great.

And I'm not gonna lie, man.
I had a little bit of doubt,

you know, but I had a lot
of determination.

-Sergio!
-Give me high five, or ten.

Nice work.

Dude, you killed it out there.

SERGIO:
I was out there
just going for it, you know,

and I had to stay calm,
just like I do at work.

You know, at work I'm under
a lot of pressure, man.

13 years ago is when I started

taking the lead role
as a foreman.

I love it more than anything.

Get up at the crack of dawn

before anybody's even
thinking about waking up.

Get to the project
and just know

that you're going
to tackle this beast.

But a lot of the motivation
right now is my family.

We have some pieces that we're
trying to put back together.

I'm just here to show people
that if you're willing

to stand up, shake it off,
then you can get back out there

and get after it.

KEOGHAN:
Take a really good look
at everybody out there

working and figure out who
you want to be on your team.

Uh, Synethia's having trouble
with that motor.

HAYDEN:
Look at Sergio coming
to help right now.

-Look at that.
-KEOGHAN: Isn't that cool?

HAYDEN:
Yeah. Love that.

[engine starts]

-Go, Mister!
-There you go.

Oh, we got another one, too.

KEOGHAN:
We have a race.

Mister and Beth coming in
at one time.

HAYDEN:
Oh, wow. Who's gonna get
to the beach?

KEOGHAN:
Beth and Mister--
who's gonna get here first?

Who will get to pick a team?

It's going to come down
between the two of you.

Got to bring up your old buoy,

your old wand
and your old rope.

-HAYDEN: Looks like he's got it.
-KEOGHAN: Let's go, Mister.

-Fight for it.
-Come on, Mister. You got it!

KEOGHAN:
Everything's got to be
across the line.

You're going to need your wand,
as well, and all your rope.

Beth, you can still do this!
Don't give up! Let's go!

-And Beth making it. Dump it.
-HAYDEN: Look at that.

-Mister.
-That's it, Mister.
You get to pick a team.

-Wow.

[whooping]

MISTER:
I'm very proud of myself.
I came in second place

So that puts me in position

to pick the teams, so, uh,

I have some thinking to do.

-HAYDEN: Wow.
-KEOGHAN: Third to finish.

Beth gets it done.

BETH:
To know that I finished ahead
of nine other people

is always exciting.

KEOGHAN:
Synethia climbing on board

as Ilima makes it back to shore.

First to get out to her mooring.

ILIMA:
Going out first

but coming in fourth,
I still feel great.

I'm definitely going
to give everybody a run

for their money to the end.

KEOGHAN:

Synethia's getting
her motor started.

-HAYDEN: Look at that.

RENEÉE:
I've always said,
"Don't underestimate me

the way that I'm dressed."

The work I do is
extremely physical.

Being a dry mason,
I build walkways, walls, patios.

I'm carrying, like,
the 80-pound bags of mortar.

When you're doing a wall
that's, like, 100 feet,

that's a lot of bags
that you're moving.

For the past 12 years,
I've worked for somebody else,

but right after COVID hit,
I decided to start my business.

My two boys work for me,
my daughter works for me,

and I hit my five-year goal
in 15 months.

Rocking it!

KEOGHAN:
All right, guys,
congratulations.

Wow, that was a tough job today.

So impressed with everybody.

HAYDEN:
And you never gave up.

KEOGHAN:

As the first female

to be able to balance

a lot
of different personalities.

I feel so blessed. Everybody
on this team is, like, elite.

So, Renée, where'd you say

you're from again?

I grew up in Massachusetts.

-What about you?
-Honestly, I grew up

in the country
on the Big Island.

My mom put us
to work every day.

We were picking coffee,
we were cutting down trees.

So, don't let a pretty face
fool you. I get down and dirty.

[laughter]

Everybody here, man, has talent.

There was something
about you guys,

you know,
each and every one of you.

I'm so grateful
to be on this team because

you guys all have a different
skill that I don't have,

and I can learn a lot,

not just for the competition
but for everyday life.

'Cause basically, I spent

two years in federal prison
for bank fraud.

I was about 18 when I started.
I was, like,

mesmerized by the flashy things
that everybody else has.

And on May 12, 2012,

30 federal agents came
to my house

at 5:55 a.m. to arrest me.

Going to prison--
my daughter, she was 12.

I felt guilty the whole time
because

whatever she's going through,
I'm not going to be there.

When I came home, my
biggest goal was, number one--

I never have to leave her again,
and number two--

I don't have to resort back
to me doing

what I did to go to prison
in the first place.

I did not think
I was going to be a carpenter.

Carpentry changed me a lot.

Once I started taking courses,

I realized that I never had
to commit a crime to make money

because now I know how
to make money legally.

It also teaches me
how to be tough.

I am not a product of my past
or my environment.

If I winTough As Nails
for the $200,000,

I would love
to build a transitional house

for people coming out of prison

to learn new trades and skills.

If everybody has someone
to be there for them,

we can all succeed.

So I'm glad
to be here with you guys.

-SERGIO: Wow. Yeah.
-BETH: We're happy to have you.
-ELLERY: Yup.

ALY:
Hearing Synethia's story--

it makes you want
to work that much harder.

I've never been
in that situation,

so I have no idea what that...
the weight that that carries.

I just commend her
for coming out the other side

so strong.

-That's the way you bounce back.

I always asked my parents,

"You know, why'd you give me
this name?"

will be winning your money

in the team competition because

there will be only one
Tough As Nailswinner.

I got $12,000 in my pocket.

KEOGHAN:
A lot of Benjamin Franklins.

This is going
to today's winning team.

Also, first Badge of Honor
is up for grabs.

The first team
to collect five Badges of Honor

will get a cash bonus prize
of $60,000.

So there's only 4,000 people

that live
on the island of Catalina, but

there are one million visitors
who come to this island.

They come for lots of reasons.

The boating is great,
the beaches, but they love also

coming over here
to Catalina for the camping.

And in order to camp here,
you got to have

shady structures like the ones
you see around this campground.

-These two you see
need a little TLC.
-[laughter]

So today that is what
you are going to be doing.

When the work whistle blows,
use one

of these trucks to pick up

the supplies you need from
the other side of the island.

You want to do the load
in one trip.

Takes about ten minutes
to drive over there,

another ten minutes
to drive back.

-KEOGHAN:
You've also got to demo

the rest of the structure,

leaving the posts
for your rebuild.

Pay careful attention
to the blueprints.

My background

is a foreman and a lead guy
all the time.

I make a plan, we execute it,

whatever it takes,
until the job's done.

She knows how to read plans
in construction.

-ILIMA: You know how

I do have experience
with blueprints.

-Laura, you're going

The leadership that I had

working in construction,

the experience I have
with blueprints, and being

the collegiate coach
for nine years, we figured

all those skills put together,

that I'm going
to be the crew boss today.

I want to make sure that

we're starting off
on the right foot.

A victory is really going
to set us up.

-KEOGHAN: First part
of the job--

getting those ladders
off the trucks.

a shade structure.

-LAURA: One group's gonna go get
the supplies,

the other group is gonna be

tearing down and setting up.

KEOGHAN: Already
they're getting to their truck.

-Let's go, Savage.

KEOGHAN:
Savage Crew are already
on their way.

LAURA:
We put a lot of the muscle

into the truck

so we can load
the lumber really quickly.

Mister, Renée and I are
setting up

all of the tools,
all of the power cords.

That way, once they get back,

everything's ready to go.

Set it down.

Oh, man. Today's challenge,

we have to go get our lumber.

-Seat belts.
-Let's do this.

I'm taking Beth and Aly with me.

KEOGHAN:
Dirty Hands on their way.

SERGIO:
Meanwhile,
we have to have somebody

tear down
the existing structure.

Jorge, being that
we're both union carpenters--

I know he knows
how to demo a structure,

so I'm leaving him

to take the lead in that

with Synethia and Ellery.

There you go.

KEOGHAN:
Jorge is the foreman here.

He's making sure
that they follow Sergio's plan.

We're gonna get that structure
down fast, so I'm kind of

nervous about the time
it's going to take to get

all the supplies.
I just hope

they're back in time.

-Got a grinder.
You want a grinder?
-Yeah.

LAURA:
To be the first crew boss--

it's a lot. Uh, you know, not
knowing our team, not knowing

how well we work together.

There's a lot of pressure
going into it, and I want

to make sure
that we get this right.

KEOGHAN:
Mister cuts away that top beam.

They're caught up now
to Dirty Hands.

Let's do this.

You can see the, uh, pallets
are going to be over there.

Piece of cake, guys.
We got this.

Myself, Larron and Jake--

our job is to load up lumber
as fast as we can.

All I could think about is,
"Let's go, baby. Let's go."

-Watch your face.

I'm gonna pull
the allthread off.

Getting it out of the way.

-Push it up. Just push it.

You guys feed the next one.

We're going
to load the bigger beams up top,

then put our roofing boards
in the back of the pickup,

and then the cross brace beams
go on the side.

That way,
as we're building the structure,

everything's in order
and we're not wasting time.

We have a great lead.

ALY:
Oh, I see 'em.
They're right there.

Oh, no.

BETH:
The very first team challenge,

you want to get off
to a strong start.

And we were behind
the other team.

There's a lot of adrenaline
and a little bit of panic.

-Don't let off the gas,
you guys. Come on.

You got power on the other cord.

We need to start cutting,
or I can cut it right here.

KEOGHAN:
Teams are split up,
three and three.

Savage Crew off to a good lead.

Going out to the other side
of the island

to pick up the new supplies
to get this job done.

Then they got
to rebuild their structures

after they get it demoed.

-All right, let's go, let's go.
-Yeah, set it off to the side.

KEOGHAN:
Dirty Hands working furiously.

ALY:
Our strategy
of loading the supplies was

to keep the slats for the roof
off of everything else.

We don't want to waste time

digging pieces out
from underneath them,

trying to get those
out of the way.

-Got it?
-There you go. Get it balanced.

They're gonna gain on us.
Let's start doing two at a time.

All right. Let's go.
Let's keep on going.

On three. This... Oh.

Dirty Hands are working
extremely well.

Start cutting them in half.

-With the Sawzall?
-Yeah, yeah, with the Sawzall.

SYNETHIA:
I'm a carpenter apprentice,
so Jorge and Ellery

told me what to do,
I executed it.

Dirty Hands,
everything off their posts.

That's going
to put them way ahead.

-Long beam-- you ain't finished.
-I'll cut this one, too.

Come on.
You got to cut them all.

ELLERY:
Synethia is an apprentice.

She's still learning.

She's reluctant

to take a chance
and make an error.

Keep cutting. Come on.

Hopefully, going forward,

she can feel strong enough
that she can

actually take on a challenge.

KEOGHAN:
Mister gets this T-bar cut down.

And look at Renée. Savage Crew
have made up a lot of time.

SERGIO:
Just keep throwing it in.

-Watch that window.
-Good gracious. Yeah.

How many you got?
Just get a rough count.

-Around 80 or so.
-That's not enough.

ILIMA:
Oh, man.

-I just broke our window.
-That's all right. Keep going.

All I can think about is,
"Oh, my God.

I just shattered a window."

All right, we're good.
We got 115.

-You got 115?
-Hey, top me off on that side.

-Then we're good.
-That's good.

We got to get our lead back.

-Let's get out of here.
-We're doing good.

I had to make sure
we have enough. I don't want

to make a second trip.

SERGIO: I see Savage Crew
take off first, and

I didn't let it get to me.

Okay, that's it. We're gone.

We have a lot of work to do.

Anything can happen.

Are they coming?

It's frustrating.
We got our job done fast,

and we're still waiting
on material.

KEOGHAN:
Dirty Hands desperately waiting

for their team to turn up.

They're at a standstill.

And it's Savage Crew
who are the first

to return with their supplies.

Come on.

MISTER:
They pull up. It's all good,

and we're ready for 'em anyway.

Watch yourself. Watch yourself.

MISTER: Immediately
we start unloading the truck.

The next thing we need is

an allthread,

which is going to go through

the post to help

put up the new structure.

The allthread.
You got 'em...?

-No, we don't. I got...
-ILIMA: The allthreads?

Didn't we grab those?

This ain't a good start.

I'm gonna go get the allthread.

MISTER: And then I see
that the back window

of this truck is broke.
I'm like, "What in the hell?"

Did I just pick
the Three Stooges or something?

Crew boss Laura just realized

that her team forgot the
allthread at the supply yard.

Larron's gone back to get 'em,
but he's left

with the roof slats
still in the truck.

Let's hope they don't run out
of work before Larron returns

-with what they need.
-On these crossbeams,

the brackets with studs--
start getting those on.

KEOGHAN: All right.
Here comes Dirty Hands.

Here they come. Here they come.

JORGE:
I see Savage crew pull away

for the second time.

Sergio comes down the hill,

and, you know,
it gets me excited

because that gives us
the advantage

to make up some of that time
that we lost.

-Read them plans, buddy.
-KEOGHAN: The first time

Dirty Hands is working together
as a team of six.

-Come on, come on, come on.
-Here, here, here, here.

ELLERY:
Got to move faster than that.

-You got to move.
-SERGIO: There you go, guys.

Keep it going.

Jorge, Ellery, and Synethia had
already demoed the structure.

Right away,
I just started breathing easy.

I put people
where they needed to be,

and we just started jamming.

KEOGHAN:
Dirty Hands working

on their big beam.

Most dangerous part
of your job right here.

Let's go, Ellery.

ALY:
We knew immediately

that we had
to put our middle beam up.

Can't really do anything
until that beam is set.

-It was pretty heavy.
-KEOGHAN: Nailing in

those Simpson brackets
onto the beam.

That's already made it safer.

LARRON:
Forgetting the allthread

was ultimately my fault.

I set 'em off to the side

and we completely
forgot about 'em.

We're now behind,
and this is all on me

if we're not going
to get the win today.

-One, two, three.
-KEOGHAN: Big move
from Savage Crew

with this very heavy beam.

JAKE:
Got it, Come on, baby. Yeah.

-There you go.
-Fantastic teamwork.

-Come on, Ilima. You got this.

KEOGHAN:
Here comes Larron.
He's finally back.

They have some time to make up.

LAURA:
Let's go, Savage Crew!

-We need two more.

-Slide it right in.

Make sure
we have a washer and bolt.

-Gonna put it in front of you?

SERGIO: Whatever it takes to
build a structure, I can do it.

Jorge is like,
"I'm right with you, bro."

We just meshed really good

right away.

Start spinning
that nut on there.

Look at the hustles coming
from Savage Crew.

LAURA:
"Quiet time 10:00 to 9:00."

And on the other side
we got "11:00 checkout."

MISTER:
Oh, my Lord, what is he doing?

-LAURA:
You need help over there?
-KEOGHAN: Whoa.

Jake is lifting up
that crossbeam all by himself.

He's got the bolt in already.

-ILIMA: That's it. That's it.
-KEOGHAN: Now they're working

together beautifully as a team.

SERGIO: Let's go, you guys.
Don't be looking.

-Let's just stay focused.
-KEOGHAN: Dirty Hands

has all four
of their support struts

in place on their crossbeams.

Savage Crew only have two
in place.

But look at the speed
in which Jake is moving.

-Pull it out, man. Go, go, go.
-LARRON: All right. Go.

-Place that, get the allthread.
-ILIMA: We're through.

We're through, we're through.

JAKE:
I have some construction
background, so I'm ready

to show 'em
what a valuable team player I am

and show the rest
of the competition,

you know, we're going to be
a force to be reckoned with.

KEOGHAN:
Here comes another big beam

-for Sergio and Jorge.
-[overlapping chatter]

-[grunts]
-Two men of the trade slipping

that beam
into the Simpson brackets.

Tape measure's under the table.

-[grunts]
-Savage Crew have made up time.

JAKE:
I'm good over here.
Keep hammering down.

KEOGHAN:
Look at this. Both teams doing

the same job
at exactly the same time.

One hour and 20 minutes
into this job, everybody!

Let's get it done
before the sun sets.

-LARRON: Got you.
-JAKE: Once me and him

get going with these,
he needs somebody

-to feed up the pieces.
-Savage Crew the first to get

their roof slats up,
and the first roof slat

-is going up for Dirty Hands.
-Come on. Nail it.

KEOGHAN:
It is a race
to get the roof slats on.

-Do you want the other ladder?
-Yeah.

-What do you need?

-JORGE: We're getting

this roof structure on,
and it's tedious, you know?

It's climbing down, moving
the ladder, climbing back up.

We're working hard
and we're working fast.

-You guys were meant
for this job.
-You guys are doing good.

-Let's go.
-KEOGHAN: Dirty Hands are ahead
on the roof slats.

You're too close
to your work, man.

-I can't reach it then.
-LAURA: Savage Crew!

We got four ladders
and four people.

-I can hit him easily, though.
-I understand. It's not about

what you can do,
it's about what you should do.

-ILIMA: Just listen to her!
-All right.

LAURA:
The team isn't utilizing

all of the tools
as well as we should.

Let's make sure that we get
a nice assembly line going,

and we're getting
all those guns going good.

KEOGHAN:
Laura and Renée are feeding
the roof slats

up onto the roof.

They have four ladders
and four nail guns working.

Dirty Hands are using just three
ladders and three nail guns,

but Ellery is loading up all
the old wood onto their truck.

Find out
whether that's going to pay off.

-[grunts]
-ILIMA: Jake, let's do it!

I wonder if I can just
lay up there.

Okay, keep going then.

This is taking too long.

I can kill two birds
with one stone.

Now, both sides are
coming up with wood,

and all I have
to do is nail them.

-Yup.
-KEOGHAN:
Very good strategic move.

Mister working along
the spine of this roof.

He's not having
to move on a ladder,

and they are making up
huge amounts of time.

-Come on, you guys.
-ALY: Here. I need one.

SYNETHIA:
I got you, Aly.

ALY: We're neck and neck
the whole time.

We just went into overdrive,

and we started
putting our two nails in

as quick as possible.

KEOGHAN:
Dirty Hands have been working

ahead to clean up their jobsite.

Ah, but Ellery's
throwing away their number,

and they need that
to finish the job.

-Let's go!
-ELLERY: As it was coming

down to the wire, you could feel

the tense feeling.

SERGIO:
Come on. We're almost there.

It's gonna come down
to who can clean up

their jobsite faster
and nail up their number.

BETH:
It's epically close, y'all.

KEOGHAN:
Savage Crew have one more slat
to go on the roof,

but they've got
to clean up the jobsite.

Yeah, like that. Yeah.

KEOGHAN:
Dirty Hands get all their
slats up on the roof.

-[whoops]
-Savage Crew
with all their roof slats done.

Now it's a matter
of cleaning up.

MISTER:
It's down to the wire,
everybody's scrambling.

Man, we got to win it.

KEOGHAN:
This is close, Savage Crew.

Dirty Hands, it's going
to come down to seconds.

Where's our number block?

We've got this.

Everyone's loading the vehicles,
tying things down.

All we have to do
is nail up a number.

Anybody know

-Oh, come on.
-Somebody help him
with the number.

That's the missing piece.

Couldn't find it.

KEOGHAN:
Dirty Hands desperately looking
for their number.

[groaning]

KEOGHAN: Both teams have
completed their shady structures

and are now cleaning up
their jobsites.

Who will nail
their number on first?

-KEOGHAN: Oh, Dirty Hands,

all your hard work's going
to go to waste unless you can

find that number 16.

ELLERY:
Once he started
calling for the number,

it just dawned on me.

It's in the truck.

SERGIO:
I had it right here.

KEOGHAN: Savage Crew trying to
shut down their ladders.

Coming down
to the last few seconds.

-It could not be closer.
-Here.
-Yeah.

KEOGHAN:
Dirty Hands
have found their number.

-Savage Crew get their wood on.
-[overlapping chatter]

BETH:

-[cheering, whooping]

a bad feeling for me

to get picked last.

Awesome job.

A lot of these people--
they don't know my work ethic.

And today they saw it.

I think now they're happy
that I'm on their team.

ALL:
