But you know what happens
from here. The last two

to finish this challenge

will compete against each other
in overtime,

and by the end of the day,

one of you will be punching out,
and then we'll be down

to our final three.

This is the University of Iron,
here in La Palma.

This is a training center

for Local 433
and 416 Ironworkers.

Takes four years of hard work

to become a journeyman. For good
it's a dangerous job.

And today you're going to
experience some of the training

that they do
to become an ironworker.

Got some experience working
with iron and steel.

I don't think anybody
would say it's, like,

glorious or something like that.
You got to go-- you got to work.

And today,

you are going
to be working in pairs.

Sarah, since you won
the last individual competition,

you get to pick the pairs.

When that work whistle blows,

you are going
to putting six iron beams

into this structure.

A long support beam

and four smaller beams
that connect to it.

The sixth and final beam
you need to connect

is painted white. You're going
to have to climb up there

to put it in and finish the job.

And, as is customary,
on the very top

you will be planting
a Christmas tree

and an American flag.
It's called "topping out,"

and it says, "job done."

You'll be using truck cranes.

We have Bill inside the cabin
there. Say good morning to Bill.

Morning, Bill.

-And we got Joe over here.
Morning, Joe!

These guys know
how to operate a crane,

but the only way they're
going to know what to do

is with you signaling
with your hands

to tell them
where to put your beam.

I signal helicopters.
I signal cranes.

You have an 8,000-pound load
over your head.

There's no pressure
greater than that.

Sarah, have you made a decision

on who you're going
to pair up today

-in the final four?
-I have.

You've got to think
very carefully about this

because who
you're paired up with

will be the person
that you're competing against

in the final three
if you win today,

or the person
you'll be competing against

-in overtime if you lose.
It's a tough choice.

They all bring great qualities.

But a crane is very, I mean,

you've got to be very precise.

How do you guys feel about your

Zeus is, uh,

the youngest
still in the running.

So, uh, you know,
he's got that youthfulness,

full of energy,
and he's a strong young man.

you're going into overtime,

and you'll have to fight it out

to get into the final three.

Making sure that the cable
is in the center

of the beam
will keep it balanced.

Once that cable has pressure
on it, the beam can't fall out.

It's kind of like
a steel puzzle.

We've got to start
with the big piece at the bottom

to put it across,

that way we can put
the little pieces across.

Once we're done with the bottom,

we can move up top
to put the last piece in.

Watch... All right?

Come on, Zeus!

Swifty and Zeus have
their first beam up in the air.

Great crane operation.

Beams are in the air!

And that first beam,

it's got to go up
and over this structure.

You got two crane operators

with steady, experienced hands,
but you've got

to direct those beams into the
structure, and that's not easy.

Clear.
All right.

Now they're getting it to work.

Time to bolt this thing in.

Zeus lifting his beam up.
He wants to reset this.

Using the bull pin now to line
up his beams. He's got it.

Now he gets to work
on the bolts.

They've got to tighten
them up until we see

red on the thread.
Red on the thread

-means it's tight enough.
Sarah.

-Where do you need to go?
I need to go down.

I'm good!

As soon as that first beam
is into place,

we're going to both get

on bolting it together,
and then we're going

take that cable off

and fly the crane out of there
to get ready for the next beam

while Sarah stays in there
and works on

-finishing bolting up
the other beam.
You got two!

-Grab that second one.
Both pairs

putting their second beam in.

-This is tight.
Oh!

-We need signals. Signals, Zeus!
Yeah.
Keep bringing it up.

He could come down.
Swifty and Zeus

getting a little frustrated

'cause they realize
that their crane hook

is way up above.

They forgot
all about giving instructions

to the crane operator.

-He will not move
unless they tell him.

Once you've got your spud wrench
in there, it's ready to go.

The most time-consuming
is actually

getting the nut
off the bolt beforehand

and getting the nuts,
bolts, and washers ready.

Once I got my two in,
he's got his one in,

I finish off the last one, and
we're ready to go for the next.

Scott signaling to get

Zeus bringing his crane in.

-They're one beam behind.

Whoa, that beam just took a hit.

They do need
to get it under control.

Don't worry about

It's very secure
with that choker cable,

but it does eat up a lot of time

when it's swinging
all over the place like that,

and that could give Zeus

and it's a little unbalanced,

but I got an eye on it.
So I know where it's at.

Now the third beam
being dropped in

-for Scott and Sarah.

I almost couldn't believe

that they had, like,
caught up to us and passed us.

Once we had
a little bit of a lead,

I thought we would
just build on that.

And it's up in the air.

Slightly ahead
of Scott and Sarah.

keep kind of taking the lead,

but Swifty and Zeus
keep catching up to them.

I mean, it is neck and neck.

This is their fourth beam.

for their fifth beam.

We have six beams
to put into this structure.

It's going to come down
to the last beam at this rate.

It seemed like all of my bolts
were really tight.

The first two or three
that I did, you know,

I was able to get them in there and get them tight.

But the rest,
I really had to work

really, really hard
to get them.

Something I learned from day one is don't be overconfident.

I'm comfortable going
into any challenge because

the pressure
that I felt at my job

surpasses any challenge.
I got no breaking point.

and lightning versus steel.

They work up high.

One of the things
that they practice here

is being able
to climb up a column.

That way, you can access
the work area more efficiently

and sometimes,
you may be called upon

to rescue a fellow worker.

You want to get to them
as fast as you possibly can.

Task is pretty simple.

When that work whistle blows,
get onto this column,

climb it as fast as you can.

Get a good grip, 'cause
there's no foot or handholds.

First to ring the bell

makes it into the final three.

As a lineman,

we climb all kinds of things.

I didn't know it was possible
to climb a beam,

but I'm feeling good.

All the jobs that you have done
so far on Tough As Nails,

they have taken
sometimes hours to complete.

This one
could be over in seconds.

Swifty, I know
you like a good sprint.

No experience doing that.

But, in my life, there's times
I could've gave up.

I persevered and, you know,

kept my nose to the grind,

and turned things around.

Kind of mind-blowing, but the
best of the best can climb

a column like this
in under five seconds.

I like Zeus,
but this is my boy Swifty.

He brings it.
He's got all heart.

He'll sprint out like
he did at the soccer stadium.

You never know
what Swifty's going to do.

and we learn fast.

And, you know, we work
in high-pressure situations

every single day,
so this is nothing new.

to technique, core strength.

mental toughness.

And today, we're going
to crown another champion.

You're the best of the best.
We started with 12 contestants,

and now we have just nine.

But I have
a surprise to deliver.

Fresh out of quarantine.

Having to leave my team
was the hardest part.

These are my brothers.
These are my sisters.

And I wanted to end my season with me supporting my teammates

-for the victory.

We miss him so much.
He's such an important

-part of our team.
You had somebody

-A guardian angel.
I told her, "Thank you
for taking care of me."

I knew I was in good hands.

Well, we can't tell you
how nice it is to see you back.

Are you surprised
at who's in the final three?

This is who I thought
might be there.
Is that right?

Yeah.

So. Scott, Zeus, and Sarah,

you are the last three
in the Tough As Nails

individual competition.

But you got a lot of work to do

before you get that $200,000

and the all-new Ford F-150.

When that work whistle blows,
pick up a sledgehammer.

You're going
to smash through this wall

as fast as you possibly can.

When you get through
to the other side,

you're going to see
a concrete block.

Inside that concrete block
is a bolt cutter.

The way you get it out is you're
going to use a jackhammer.

Use the bolt cutter to cut
through a chain-link fence.

Cut a hole big enough so
you can take some lobster traps

through the hole
in the fence and use ten

to build steps to get
up on top of a container.

Once you're
on top of the container,

you see those three I-beams
sticking up in the air?

Pick up a hacksaw and start
cutting away at a chain.

Once the chain is broken,

that I-beam is going
to drop down onto the container.

That will create a bridge.

Go across the bridge and drop
into the final workspace.

When you get down,
you're going to see

two marine lines.

Untangle both lines
as fast as you can.

Pull the line
through an eye hole.

That'll pull up a ladder,

and then tie them off
to a bollard.

Once you've tied off
that ladder on both sides,

climb the ladder,

and at the top,
you're going to see a key fob

and an all-new Ford F-150.

See it shining
off in the distance?

The first person to get there
and unlock it wins.

Sounds easy, right?
No, not so easy.

Now, these are crazy times.

Ideally, I wanted
to have your families here,

but it is a challenging time
in the world.

Angel is giving back
to his community

as a fitness coach
and mentor to troubled kids.

He also flew his son to Miami
for a special visit.

Merryl is adopting
her foster daughter

and publishing an autobiography.
