I was quiet on the last one.

That will not be the case today.

This competition for sure wears on you mentally.

I've been through a lot of hard things

and I-I doubt myself a lot. It comes from, you know,

being a little kid being bullied.

I was a quiet, kind of nerdy kid.

I wore glasses with Chums.

I had a headgear that I had to put on

-as soon as the end-of-school bell rang.

And I remember, every single day,

walking out of my chorus class,

I would get stopped by a group of kids,

and I was bullied every day.

That seventh grader still lives in me.

I... I still have confidence issues from it.

Luckily, my teammates are amazing people who have also

been through hard things, who understand

what it means to doubt yourself at times.

We've been through everything we needed

to go through for this moment.

And we're gonna

collectively put everything we've been through

to win this today. Okay?

-We had our ups, we had our downs.

We got to do it today.

It's win or win.

If we win today, we take home the Badge of Honor.

-And

$60,000.

This win is just so important.

We just have to think about that grand prize.

But standing next to you is Savage Crew.

They're not gonna let you have it easy.

You are at the largest car recycling facility

in the United States.

This is where old cars come to die.

They're picked for their reusable parts,

drained of hazardous materials,

and then hauled away to have their metal recycled.

So, today your job is to actually bring a car

back to life.

As you can see, there are two cars here

that have a few parts missing. All the parts

you need to get these two cars up and running, you'll find

in this sea of junked cars.

When that work whistle blows, you're gonna go

into the mechanics' shed,

grab your set of tools,

and then look out for the work order,

right here. This work order tells you

exactly what you need to get the job done.

You've got to find a front bumper, headlights,

hood, front doors,

sliding door, taillights,

rear bumper, wheels,

seats and battery.

Finally, you need to hook up the battery,

because you've got to get your cars going

and smash through that wall.

I've been to the junkyard

a couple of times in my day.

I do feel strong about my knowledge of cars.

Going in, we want to get the win,

tie this thing up.

First team to get this car up and running

will win $12,000

-and today's Badge of Honor.

there will be a tiebreaker in the final team challenge.

Dirty Hands, unfortunately,

Freight Train is still in quarantine,

having left our COVID bubble to get medical attention.

So, at that point, I go back to the van

to make sure everything's in the right orientation.

is, like, extremely low.

And it's just nice to see someone with

type 1 diabetes in a competition like this,

pushing through and helping us win these challenges.

Type 1 doesn't mean you can't do stuff.

You inspire me, you push me.

You work your butt off, and I hope you win.

I do, I do.

I'm representing every type 1.

It's a hard thing to deal with on a daily basis.

It's never gonna go away.

-I'm at 60. Slow. -What's that mean?

Yeah, I call the doctor when it's 70.

-I will have to call the doc... -You call the doctor when it's 70?

-Yeah. -Girl, you'd be calling every day

-and be on speed dial.

Being a type 1 diabetic, you have to maintain.

If you don't, your organs are gonna start to fail,

you'll lose limbs.

It's something that you have to worry about all the time.

The amount of times I give myself insulin

could be anywhere between

three times, up to ten times a day.

I've had friends that pass away in their sleep.

You have to set your alarm,

wake up in the middle of the night,

make sure you're okay. Every day,

you're gonna have your lows, you're gonna have your highs.

It's hard. It is.

Some people make you seem like you're-you're fragile.

But you're not fragile.

There's no reason not to go out there

and do what you can to make a living.

Guys, make yourself comfortable in the back of the truck.

That's the only thing I say to myself

I don't see it any other way.

I have a lot of love

for my teammates,

but I know that at the end of the day,

they're gonna try to knock me out.

We're competing to win the ultimate prize,

and I'm not gonna just give it to anybody.

Your job today is to collect

15 quarts of oil from the cars that you see around you.

Now, the average car has between five and eight quarts of oil.

The key is picking a car that has a big engine, and then

cross your fingers that there's a lot of oil in it.

You'll collect the oil on your drip pan.

You gotta slide the drip pan from underneath the car,

and then you've got to precariously

balance this drip pan with the oil, like this,

back here, to fill up 15 quarts.

Just to be clear, this is not the most efficient way

to get oil from a car.

But being tough is about using ingenuity

and getting the job done,

even if you don't have the right tools.

Why are you wearing coveralls

do you think this morning, Sarah?

'Cause, uh, my blueberry is gonna become blackberry.

-You got that right. -Mm-hmm.

I think we're gonna be messy.

I feel like the blueberry in Willy Wonka.

We're gonna get this job done as fast as you possibly can,

because, as you know, the last two of you

to collect the 15 quarts of oil will be going into overtime.

If you finish last in the overtime,

you'll be punching out.

When I was a kid, my dad always

wanted me to learn how to change oil.

And I'd basically be in the house like,

"Nah, I don't want to change oil, Dad.

I just want to play video games."

Man, I should have paid attention.

The job is to collect enough oil so it

fills up these cylinders to the black mark.

The oil plug is the large, easy-to-access nut

at the bottom of the engine.

Last two of you to complete the job

Who do you think is gonna come back first with a pan?

Scott. -Now, that pan, that's hard to carry.

I've done oil changes before and everything,

so I'm comfortable with today's challenge.

I know where to find the plug.

All I need is a 14 or 18 bit

to take the plug out.

The strategy is pretty simple; just keep trying to find

as much oil as possible.

Find the big cars.

I know how to find the plug to drain the oil, so...

-I feel pretty confident. -Scott's got a good flow of oil

going into his pan.

You know, I'm not great with hand tools.

I'm having trouble with the socket wrenches.

The bolts are different sizes.

Some cars are foreign, so they're metric.

The bolts are so tight, I just cannot

for the life of me get them loose.

Every car is different!

This is a tough challenge for me

because I don't know what I'm doing.

But every day I go to work,

I learn something new, and that's what I love about it.

So today I'm gonna stay positive,

I'm gonna give it my best.

Iraida's moving over to a different car.

Damn, Swifty.

-That's a V-8. That's a V-8.

Ah, Sarah had to switch cars, too.

There's Scott. I told you!

It's starting to get me to be a little panicky.

I decide to just steal from Scott's car. I'm thinking,

I just filled up a pan from the car that

he had made nice and loose for me.

The goal is always to beat Scott.

I see Liz's game. She stole my oil.

It's fair game. No rule against that.

Swifty-- Oh! And he loses a lot of it.

That's a hazard; we're gonna have to clean that up.

I lose maybe 70% of it.

This is gonna be difficult.

I finally find some cars

that people had already, um, taken oil out of.

Sorry, but it's about me today.

I have to do what I have to do for me.

Zeus, second load but it's not much.

at exactly the same time.

The pan, it kind of, it twists a little bit.

You had to pour at a steady pace and maneuver it a little bit

to make sure you didn't lose a bunch of oil.

Not one drop of oil has spilled out.

The only person to not have any oil is Iraida.

I see everyone else, I'm like, "I'm beating everybody."

But one slipup is gonna mess me up.

So I'm really just trying to focus.

Scott back with another pan.

Here he comes. Oh, Scott's spilling, but...

-All in the pour-- oh! Oh!

And he just loses half of the pan.

Iraida with her first pour.

-Don't want to waste that-- one drop of it. -Be careful pouring it!

I just wasted a lot of oil.

It took me a while to get,

It's coming down to Swifty, Iraida and Knuckles.

I start to panic a little bit.

The ultimate goal for me is to make it to the finals.

I'm going against Iraida-- you know, I love her.

We've got each other's backs whatever happens.

But I'm gonna give it my all, I'm gonna try and beat her.

I know how strong she is,

and I know how determined she is, just like me.

I have a lot of love and respect for her,

but now I have to focus on me.

Iraida and Knuckles, you will be going into overtime,

fighting it out to try to stay

in this Tough As Nails individual competition.

Before the sun sets today, one of you will be punching out.

We all came here to compete for our families.

I'm here for them.

Before I had my son, it was just my mother and I.

Sometimes she had three jobs to make sure

we had an amazing roof over our head.

Now it's my job to repay her for everything she did for me.

I'm here to win money for my family.

I'm here to prove myself.

I'm learning about myself throughout this competition

because I've been a cement mason for eight years now.

I don't have these moments where I'm faced

with something I've never done before.

So I am learning a lot about how I function

with something new, and I think I'm evolving.

I want to make it to that top five.

Iraida and Knuckles, since you were the last

to finish recycling the oil,

it means you are going into overtime.

One of you will stay in the individual competition,

the other one will be punching out.

So you know you're at a pick-a-part,

and you know what's great about a pick-a-part?

Nothing on any of these cars goes to waste.

But the thing is, here you have to use tools

to get the parts that you need.

That's your job today.

I need you to take three parts off these engines.

The first part, the flywheel.

Helps to keep your engine balanced.

Second part, the exhaust manifold.

Collects all the exhaust from the cylinders

and then that goes out into the exhaust at the back of the car.

And the third part, oil pan.

-And what does the oil pan do?

It holds the oil?

-It holds the oil.

That wasn't a trick question.

-Sorry, I'm like "What..." That's okay.

All the tools you need to get the job done

are inside your tool kits.

The first person to put all three parts

onto these workbenches

will be safe and stay in the individual competition.

-Get to your stations. I have never worked on a car before.

This isn't an area where I have any knowledge or confidence.

I know Iraida has more experience with these tools.

So I'm not looking forward to this one.

Let's go cherry-picking.

-Come on, let's go.

-Let's go, you two. -Let's go, ladies.

The first thing I'm thinking is,

"I'm gonna take the flywheel off."

All the bolts are on the outside,

and it's gonna be easier to take off.

Both working on the flywheel first.

I'm gonna try something here.

Let's go, ladies. Let's go, let's go, let's go.

Give it a second, think about it.

Think about what you need.

Both Iraida and Knuckles have taken the first bolt

out of their flywheel.

Let's go, Knuckles.

As long as they stay calm, they'll be fine.

It feels like watching two sisters

going at-- up against each other.

They're both great moms, they're both strong women,

they're both hungry, they know what's at stake.

Good work, good work. I hear those bolts falling.

-I hear those bolts falling. Good job, you guys.

Knuckles, using a Crescent to get some leverage

and pulls the flywheel off.

First part done for Knuckles.

-Good job, Knuckles.

I did panic a bit in the beginning,

but I feel like I'm learning as I'm going along.

It's not too complicated. You know, I'm feeling good.

Knuckles going for the oil pan.

-Keep going, Iraida. Go, Iraida.

When I do something that I've never done before,

I get scared and I panic.

That little doubt kicks in, and just sitting there,

just waiting to pop out and be like, "Ha, ha."

-Come on.

I just have to keep talking to myself

and start motivating myself.

Got to keep going till the job is done.

Now Iraida and Knuckles working on their second part.

Iraida's looking for the right socket.

They are neck and neck.

That socket is too big.

Iraida working away with the socket wrench, back and forth.

Iraida, quickly getting the job done.

That's how you use it.

This is giving me problems.

I can't get the last nut out of the oil pan.

My nerves are kicking in gear.

Why? Why?

I'm getting frustrated, I'm talking to the engine,

like it can hear me.

Iraida's asking her engine,

"Why, why, why?" and the engine is not answering her.

That's because it's an engine.

-Phil's like...

-Phil. -Phil.

Come on, you got to be kidding me.

There's one stubborn bolt left

to take that oil pan off.

I get the oil pan mostly done

and I just sort of get stuck.

And I have gotten in my own way in other challenges,

so I'm just trying to remember, if I get flustered, to stop.

Take a deep breath, refocus myself.

Knuckles, leaving the oil pan,

now getting onto the exhaust manifold.

That's what I'm gonna do.

And Iraida doing the same thing.

My plan is to move on,

tackle the exhaust manifold,

and then hopefully get that off and be able to come back

with a fresh take on the situation.

Oil pan is stuck on there.

I wasn't sure what kind of sockets

I needed.

I don't know.

I just started bringing everything out of my toolbox,

I'm putting it on my table,

I'm just taking out the sizes that I thought it was.

Knuckles has picked up the speed.

-Figure it out. Figure it out, you two. -Let's go!

Where is the socket that I have for the top?

-Calm down, Iraida. -No, I...

I had so much going on on my table.

It was a hot mess. I know, I had a hot mess going on.

Calm down. -Where is my small socket?

Could it be on the workbench?

If I took the other ones off with this one,

why do I have to go to the other one?

-I don't understand. Calm down.

-Calm down. Deep breath.

-Deep breath. There, it's there. Nope.

-Calm down. -Where is my small socket?

-It's not there. -Calm down. Calm down.

Don't give up,

-and the job is done. -Bomba.

So far, each of them have only taken off the flywheel.

There are two parts left, the exhaust manifold

and the oil pan.

I finally found the socket

so I feel, like, relieved, because now that I know

that I have the socket, now I can move faster.

Yes. There you go.

-Yes. Oh, my God. -Keep it up, Iraida.

Knuckles has got one of her bolts

now coming off the exhaust manifold.

Iraida is-- looks like she's a mechanic

the way she's working through this.

-Keep it going. Iraida's just got

a little bit of a lead on me,

but I'm right behind her.

She has the second part off.

Now going back to the oil pan.

Sometimes I doubt myself.

But overcoming the two overtimes

proved to me that I can do this.
