Episode 8

Sir, Li Zhi Yuan's manor has been emptied.

These are all the people left in there.

Where is Li Zhi Yuan?

Please, show some mercy, we don't know anything!

Bring them in for interrogation.

Your Highness, Minister Wu found some clues.

When Minister Qin was ambushed,

all of his secretariat students were killed.

Yet, Li Zhi Yuan gained the trust and recognition of Yu Shi Hai.

He took a position in the Minister of Personnel.

We can see he is a coward.

He won't end his own life.

-You may go now. -Yes.

Your Highness.

There are so many luggage here. Are we moving out?

Since you will be staying,

I shall make some adjustment to the manor.

I don't deserve this.

What do you need of me?

Your Highness.

Your Highness, a letter came in from a guest outside.

This is rare.

-Let him in. -Yes.

I am here to tell Your Highness I am leaving.

You still insist on leaving?

At your service, Your Highness.

Sir, why are you here?

You know him?

Yes.

It's you. Of course I remember you.

That night, I was passing through Vernicia Alley.

I didn't see her coming toward me.

I almost bumped into her.

Vernicia Alley?

But we met at Front Yard Street that night.

Is that what happened?

Indeed.

The night is full of danger.

Why would you be in the alley?

Soon after you saved me from the prison,

I felt frustrated from the humiliation I suffered in there.

I couldn't fall asleep and took a stroll on the street.

Is this some sort of interrogation?

I was just being curious.

General Fu just returned from a victorious battle.

But you seem to know each other well.

General Fu?

Your Highness.

I have only met this lady here for mere moments.

I didn't even get a chance to know her name.

You really don't know his name?

He pacified the skirmishes at the south.

He is the famous Fu Chou.

General Fu.

Please, Your Highness.

Your Highness' praise is too much for me.

Lady, here is something you don't know.

The army I was leading was surrounded.

If it wasn't for His Highness' wise strategy,

I might have been a corpse by now.

The credit of winning the battle would be impossible.

Prince Li, I am grateful for the help.

I shall remember the kindness till my last breath.

General Fu.

You are being too humble.

I believe even without my help,

you and your warriors could still win...

and secure a victory.

I should thank you for the advice while we were at the Court that day.

His Majesty gave me the permission to investigate the corruption.

I felt sorry for it.

I had no other choice that day.

I thought about it after I left.

I shouldn't have...

put you in the pressure of solving the case in a week.

Which is why I searched the files.

I found some leads for you.

I hope this can be of help to you.

I know.

With your brilliant mind,

the case will be solved in seven days.

But as a token to repay your kindness of saving me,

I have a lead on the case.

This is for you.

" Lin Village, Li Zhi Yuan "

Where did you get this piece of information?

I have my ways.

I am not at liberty to say.

I hope Your Highness won't pry.

I didn't know who you were back then.

I apologize if I offended you.

It is fate that let us meet each other.

There is no need for apology, Miss Man Yao.

General Fu, I need a favour from you.

What may that be?

I am the mistress of Moon Embrace Teahouse.

But I ran into some trouble lately.

His Highness invited me to stay in this manor for time being.

His Highness is worried for my safety and I can't leave.

Now that you are here,

can you be so kind as to give me a ride?

His house is at the north of the capital.

The teahouse is at the west.

How is that in his way?

I will drop by at the central and be on my way.

I have long heard about...

how famous the tea at Moon Embrace is.

How about this?

Do I have the honour to have some tea at your premise?

That would be great.

You have my thanks.

Your Highness, goodbye.

I shall be on my way now.

You are really leaving?

I have been here for days. I should leave.

If you insist,

I shall respect that decision.

I have other work to see to.

You may continue with your catching up.

Leng Yan, ready the horses.

Miss, this way.

You have my thanks for helping me out just now.

You are most welcome.

But normally speaking,

I should be thanking you.

Since you already knew who I am,

you know well enough that...

I shouldn't have been in the city that night.

The army returned victorious, the people cheer for you.

You were back in the city ahead of your schedule.

I know you have your own reasons.

You saved my life.

It's only decent of me to keep that secret for you.

My lady, you have a sharp wit and generous heart.

I am impressed.

General Fu, we have arrived at the teahouse.

Thank you, General. Goodbye.

Mistress.

You are finally back. We are all worried for you.

You need not worry. I am fine.

This is General Fu.

He is the one that saved me after I left that night.

Thank you, General Fu. How about a cup of tea inside?

I have work to be done.

I shall pay a visit some other day.

So long.

Your Highness, I have been waiting for a long time.

What is your next plan?

Long Yue, I have a lead on the Book of Mountain and River.

This is great.

Stay put in the teahouse.

Run a background check on that General Fu.

Remember, be cautious.

-Keep me posted. -Yes.

Xiao Sha, gather your best men.

We are going after Zong Zheng Wu You.

Yes.

An officer of the third rank.

Living in hiding without a name...

in this wild and a miserable life.

Sir Li, did you do something against your conscience...

or did you take something your shouldn't have?

Or did you offend someone with power?

I abandoned my rank and live in this seclusion.

Why are you still coming after me?

Only a dead man can keep secrets.

Cover me.

Leng Yan!

Be quick with it.

It's all because of a mistake I made.

I brought this down to myself.

I have no intention to kill you.

Answer my question and you will live.

What do you want to know?

Where is the Book of Mountain and River?

I am sure you know what the Book of Mountain and River is.

The book is lost.

I may be one the writers of the book,

but I have never seen the completed version of it.

As for its whereabouts, I have no clue at all.

Then you are no use to me!

Wait!

I remember now.

The book might inside the secret chamber of Qin's manor.

I was told my teacher built a secret chamber in his manor.

If His Majesty didn't find this book when the manor is sealed,

the book must have been hidden inside the chamber.

A chamber?

Turn around.

Who are you?

Your Highness!

Your Highness! Wake up!

You saved me once.

Now I am saving yours.

We are even now.

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Master, we need to go!

-Run! -Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Help!

-Princess! -Princess!

-Princess! -Princess!

Your Highness, you are finally back.

Are you all right?

I am so worried.

I am fine. Fate is in my favour.

There is no need to be worried.

-Princess, let me get you some tea. -I'll get hot water for your bath.

Knowing that you are safe and sound,

my worries are relieved.

I found a lead on the mystical book.

I will get it soon.

As for Zong Zheng Wu You,

I noticed...

he is not the same as the rumours said.

He may be arrogant, but he is righteous.

He may be cold,

but he is kind in a way.

You need to bear this in mind.

If choice needs to be made one day,

we must not make him our enemy.

Take care, Brother.

From: Your sister Rong Le.

Xiao Sha.

Princess.

I got some lead on the book from Li Zhi Yuan.

Send this to Long Yue.

Order her to send this letter to my brother in Western Qi.

Yes.

Your Highness.

Taking the Book of Mountain and River means a fight with Prince Li.

We must not let our guard down.

Humans are unpredictable..

You should not put so much trust in him.

Your Highness.

The doctor said it was a poison arrow.

You need to rest for a couple of days.

What about Li Zhi Yuan?

He is dead.

I brought his body back.

We searched every corner of his hideout.

We found nothing.

I didn't see this coming.

I never thought Yu Wen Jie had a trick up in his sleeves.

Maybe this is not the doing of Yu family.

Indeed, I found other traces.

Someone sucked the poison out in time for you.

Otherwise it could be much worse.

Have you seen that person?

You were alone when I arrived.

Those people might be after something else.

They might be after the book.

Your Highness, I carried out the mission.

Li Zhi Yuan is dead.

There is no one left to threaten you.

It's all thanks to Sir Yu's keen insight.

He used the assassins from Creed of Vengeance for pincer attack.

Otherwise the outcome could have been different for us.

I was merely under your protection. I dare not take the credit.

But the Creed really is reliable.

They could come in handy.

We need to use them for our bidding.

What a shame.

We still failed...

to get rid of that Zong Zheng Wu You.

Zong Zheng Wu You?

You actually admire him so much?

Sire, reports from Captain Xiao.

Yes.

Princess Rong Le was framed and jailed.

Prince Li got her out.

She was then brought to live in Prince Li's manor.

Rumour says the two of them are very close.

Enough.

What about the matter I ordered you to investigate?

We couldn't find the Physician.

But we did find out that...

a secret apprentice of his still lives.

Empress Dowager, His Majesty is resting.

He must not be bothered.

How bold of him.

Empress Dowager!

Mother.

Why did you send this servant to stop me from entering?

If he is too much for you to handle,

I will gladly teach him a lesson or two for you.

Please, don't be mad at him.

It's me, I have a relapse lately. I need to rest.

I told Little Xun to stay guard outside.

He as just following my order.

And you won't let me see you?

You are trying to go against me at every corner nowadays.

All for the life of a mere servant.

Servant or not,

we are all equal in face of death.

No matter how noble you are,

if it's our fate,

none of us can escape from death.

No one can stop it.

-Let him go. -Yes.

Thanks, Your Majesty.

All those letters you got from the Northern Realm,

I have read each...

and every one of them.

Mother, why must you force my hand?

Your Majesty, I hope you remember what's most important.

It's the order I gave you.

We are running out of time.

You should see to it yourself.

Ling Yue.

What's wrong?

You look absent-minded ever since I got back.

-Xiao Sha said... -It's nothing.

You were gone for days.

I couldn't sleep well.

I am back now. You can finally have some sleep.

Of course. You are back and I can finally sleep better.

Your Highness, while you are at Prince Li's manor,

did he mistreat you?

Princess?

Princess?

Princess, you are blushing.

No, I am not.

That jerk is so arrogant.

He is cunning and paranoid.

I can't seem to understand him at all.

He said he has no interest in women.

But he carried me and hugged me.

Prince Li may be impressive, but he is no match for you.

Isn't that right?

Where is Lian Xin?

I don't know.

Maybe she is in the kitchen preparing your medicine.

It's not time to take the medicine yet.

What is she preparing?

Brother Xiao?

Your Highness, I intercepted this.

I interrogated the man Lian Xin was in contact with.

Lian Xin.

I see you as my dearest friend.

Be honest with me and tell me what's inside.

I will forgive you.

It's...

That is my love letter for him.

It's too indecent for Your Highness' eyes.

Lian Xin, let Her Highness have a look.

You can prove to us you are not a spy.

Her Highness is a reasonable person. She will forgive you.

Your Highness, having affair with outsider means death sentence.

I don't want to die.

Your Highness.

How is this happening?

How is this happening?

Your Highness, I didn't do it!

I didn't do it!

Ling Yue, what do I do now? Help me!

Lian Xin.

How could you?

You are spying for someone?

I see you as my own sister. I am so disappointed in you!

Your Highness, I didn't do it!

I am not spying for anyone!

Please believe me! I am not sending anything!

Your Highness!

Your Highness, this is all my fault.

I shouldn't have helped her avoid the guards...

so she could meet with her lover.

Her Highness found out the lock has been tempered with.

She swapped out the letter with a fake.

Otherwise, you had taken those secrets.

I didn't do it! I know nothing about the lock!

Please, spare me! I deserve justice!

What is this then?

Your Highness.

He is a doctor.

He said that I knew no skill.

-I just wanted to learn. -Nonsense!

Your Highness.

I questioned the man she was meeting.

He claimed to be a merchant. He is no doctor.

As I told you, Princess Zhao Yun passed out in here.

Her acupuncture points were blocked.

I didn't do it! Your Highness, I didn't do it!

Lian Xin.

Come over here.

Place your hand in the water.

How is this happening? Your Highness!

I didn't do it!

I never touched this chest! I never touched it! Your Highness!

Did I say it will turn your hand blue?

No, but I am...

Your Highness, I swear I am loyal to you!

I swear, I was just meeting my lover!

I am not spying for anyone!

Please, believe me! Your Highness!

Ling Yue, explain to Her Highness.

You know all about me.

By the law of Qi, spying for the enemy...

means death.

Your Highness, I don't want to die!

Your Highness must be not be swayed.

Please, show mercy.

Lian Xin was just blinded by love for that man.

Seeing how she has always been serving you so loyally,

please, spare her life.

I beg of you!

Her Highness, I don't want to die!

Lian Xin, tell me.

Do you love that man?

Yes, I will do anything for him.

Very well.

In that case,

I shall not make it hard for you.

You are on your own now.

I will tell the officers to terminate your deed.

Leave. Go to the man you love.

Xiao Sha.

Send them out of the Northern Realm.

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Ling Yue.

Lian Xin.

I understand. You know the Princess' position in this palace.

She has her own reason to be more cautious.

Take this as a blessing in disguise.

You can marry a good man.

It's better than a life of serving others.

I understand.

Farewell, Your Highness.

I examined the body.

There is no clue to be found.

This is a receipt from the pawn shop.

If this is any ordinary receipt,

Li Zhi Yuan wouldn't have hidden it so well.

Every pawn shop has its own logo.

Find out where this receipt came from.

Yes.

-Take this away. -Yes.

Your Highness.

Minister of Personnel sent an invitation.

Three days from now is his 50th birthday.

He invites you to his feast.

-You may go now. -Yes.

Three days from now?

It seems like getting rid of Li Zhi Yuan...

makes them think I can't solve the case.

They are sending a warning.

Your Highness, this came from the Emperor.

I checked General Fu's background.

He spends most of his time leading the troops.

He got promoted for his feats.

He never sided with any officials.

He is a generous and kind person.

He has a quite a good reputation and respected by many.

For the time being,

there is nothing unusual about him.

A man that wins everyone's heart?

A man without flaw?

That is even more terrifying.

You are right. I will investigate further.

I learned about the book.

It might be inside the old Qin manor.

I remember you said that after the Qin family was executed,

the manor was granted to Minister Yu by the Imperial Court.

Yes.

The manor went through renovation into the Fort Yu we know.

However,

it went through renovation and the Yu family lived there for so long.

Did no one realize there was a secret chamber?

Qin Yong is a genius,

the chamber he designed won't be found so easily.

But Fort Yu is heavily guarded.

The most pressing matter is to find a way to sneak in.

Who is it?

It's me, Chen Yu.

Come in.

Mistress.

A man from Ministry of Personnel sent an invitation.

Minister Yu's 50th birthday is closing in.

He invites me to perform at his feast.

But he just framed us and got us into jail.

We made him our enemy.

Chen Yu, not everyone can enter Minister Yu's fort.

We should thank him for this offer.

Whatever he is planning,

he may have his schemes,

but I have my wits.

-Thank you. -Thank you so much.

-Thank you. -May you live long and well!

Welcome!

-Congratulations, Sir Yu. -Thank you.

Thank you for coming.

-Thank you. -The Royal Decree arrives!

Rewards from His Majesty.

Minister Yu achieved great deeds,

contributed much for the nation. A thousand taels of gold...

and horse cart with scarlet paint.

Period.

-We are grateful, Your Majesty. -Thank you, Your Majesty.

This way, sir.

This way, sir.

Rewards from the Crown Prince.

Rewards from the Crown Prince.

A pair of jade Kirins.

Five hundred taels of gold.

His Highness wishes Sir Yu a long and prosperous life.

We are grateful for Your Highness.

This way, sir.

Rewards from Prince Li.

A precious sword from Prince Li.

A collection of valuable scrolls.

May Sir Yu live a long life.

Well and healthy.

We are grateful, Prince Li.

-This way, please. -Please.

-This way, please. -Please.

Make yourselves at home.

Kinship for brothers?

Li Zhi Yuan just died.

Prince Li has no choice but to bow down to us.

What's wrong?

Miss, I am having a stomachache.

Can you show me to the washroom?

Well...

Please, take me there.

I don't want the show to be delayed.

Come with me.

Keep your eyes open.

Where did the lady go?

The other guests must have taken her away.

We are in Minister Yu's house.

No one would dare to sneak in.

You are right.

Stay here and wait for that lady.

The feast will start soon.

The show must not be delayed.

Yes.

The feast will be starting soon.

Where could she be?

If this isn't Miss Man Yao.

Why did you lock yourself up?

I wonder if Miss Man Yao...

is searching for something in this house?

I am looking for a way out.

We have known each other for some time now.

Why are you avoiding me?

I found out about the secret in this place.

Of course I would avoid you.

You hid a vault inside your house.

You plundered so much wealth.

Is the Yu family planning a mutiny?

You...

Miss Man Yao, you have a sharp wit.

I have seen that myself.

If you got out eventually,

you can tell anyone about this secret.

But the contraption is sophisticated.

It won't be easy to escape.

Whatever Prince Li is capable of,

he has no choice but to see you die in here.

Master, Prince Li and the Crown Prince are here.

The feast will start soon.

Rest well in behind those bars.

I will catch up with you later.

-Keep an eye on her. -Yes.

May Sir Yu...

live long and prosper.

I heard Lady Chen Yu's skills with lute is the best in capital.

But sadly, she offended Wu You.

The dance with her music can no longer be seen.

What a shame.

A graceful melody with an elegant dance.

Together, they are breathtaking.

Separated, they are still brilliant.

General Fu is a wise man, I admire your wisdom.

But I think...

if two matters can be combined, it benefits all.

Otherwise, it will be disruption.

Indeed.

Today is my birthday celebration.

May I ask the gentlemen to so kind...

and to let me ease the tension in the air?

Very well.

General Fu is a man of war.

Military matters come first for him.

But something needs to be let go.

It will be better for everyone.

I want to how is it better for anyone.

Is it better for corruption?

To get rid of rivals?

Or to plunder the people?
