Original subtitles

NARRATOR: Previously on "Highlander."

KRONOS NARRATING: Once, we rode out of the sun, bringing

death on the point of a sword.

There was no man, and no immortal who could

stand before us.

We were death on horseback.

-The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?

Like in the Bible?

-The horsemen were immortals.

One of them was called Kronos.

-Sounds like something out of the Dark Ages.

-Bronze, actually.

I know.

I was there.

-Methos, the world's oldest man.

Greetings, brother.

-Kronos!

Don't you understand?

I'm no like that anymore, I've--

I have changed.

-But inside, you're still there, Methos.

You're like me.

-Draw your sword!

-You don't know me.

-I am Methos.

You live to serve me.

Never forget that.

-Cassandra, he's my friend!

-Your friend rode with Kronos--

killed and raped alongside him.

He was one of the Horsemen.

-I killed a thousand.

I killed 10,000!

And I was good at it.

We're through.

-You should have killed me when you had the chance.

It'll never be over until they're both dead.

-We'll come back, brother.

Then we'll find him.

METHOS [OFFSCREEN]: I've been spending too

much time in cities.

KRONOS [OFFSCREEN]: Two days on an airplane and another two

on a horse.

I hope you're not wasting my time.

METHOS [OFFSCREEN]: I thought you enjoyed my company?

KRONOS [OFFSCREEN]: Even for you, Methos, my

patience has limits.

METHOS [OFFSCREEN]: Ah, this is the place.

I'm telling you, Kronos, he's here.

Would I lie to you?

-Have you ever done anything else?

This is what I've dreamt of every night for

the last 2,000 years--

the four of us reunited.

-Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, 'dream team.'

-Da, like the old days.

Better!

Whatever we want, we have.

-Or else, we take.

-That's the spirit!

[wood splitting]

MALE SPEAKER [OFFSCREEN]: It's Silas!

-It's been over a thousand years.

He may not remember us.

-He'll remember.

What we were, you don't forget.

-And if he doesn't want to come with us?

-He'll come.

[whooshing]

[roaring]

-I guess he remembers.

-Brothers!

-Good to see you, too, Silas.

-We ride?

-We ride.

Come!

We have much to do.

NARRATOR: He is Duncan MacLeod--

The Highlander.

Born in 1592 in the Highlands of Scotland.

And he is still alive.

He is immortal.

For 400 years, he's been a warrior, a lover, a wanderer.

Constantly facing other immortals in

combat to the death.

The winner takes his enemy's head-- and with it, his power.

I am a Watcher-- part of a secret society of men and

women who observe and record, but never interfere.

We know the truth about immortals.

In the end, there can be only one.

May it be Duncan MacLeod--

The Highlander.

[theme music]

JOE DAWSON [OFFSCREEN]: You really think the other

horsemen are still alive?

DUNCAN MACLEOD [OFFSCREEN]: Well, Methos and Kronos are--

under different names, different lives.

-This is pointless.

We're just wasting time.

We may as well go find Kronos.

-Oh, yeah?

Starting where?

If they're alive, that's where he'll be going.

-All right, I've narrowed the search down to white male

immortals that we don't have First Death information on.

And we got a hell of a lot of files.

-Yeah, well, try narrowing it down by first name.

Look for something similar to what they

were using back then--

Silas and Caspian.

-You're reaching.

-Look, just do it, OK?

It's worth a shot.

-OK.

Andrew Kaspis.

Cassius Polonious.

Evan Casparri.

-That's him.

That's Caspian.

-He's in Romania.

He's outside Bucharest.

He's in an asylum for the criminally insane.

You take care, my friend.

[screaming]

-This is a highly irregular request.

It will take weeks,--

perhaps months.

-Well, we'd like him now.

-We have procedures, gentlemen.

Patience is a virtue.

I'm afraid my hands are tied.

-Then, uh, perhaps this could help you to untie them--

$25,000, US.

Now it seems to me, doctor, that you have a procedural

choice to make.

Forget your impeccable paperwork, hm?

I give you $25,000, and you give me Casparri.

Or you keep Casparri and you lose everything.

-This way, gentlemen.

[screaming]

-What are you going to do with Casparri?

Rehabilitate him.

-You're serious?

-Uh-huh.

-You can't be serious.

-Why?

What did he do?

-Nobody knows how many people he killed.

They found parts in his basement, in his garden, in

his freezer.

-So why don't they execute him?

-Oh, in a less progressive age, a man like

him would have been.

But today, we are more humane.

-He's here!

The Dark Man is here!

It's you!

-Pay no attention.

He's harmless.

He's been saying that for 30 years.

-One day, he may be right.

-And one day, Romania will be a Superpower!

I don't know what you want him for, but believe me-- this one

is better off dead.

[whooshing]

-Very humane.

Open the door.

-Are you sure you wouldn't like to

consider another candidate?

-Unchain him.

-I think we should call security.

Get him off me!

Please!

-Why?

-Stop!

-They are better alive.

-Bon appetite!

-Come, Caspian.

I have bigger game for you outside.

[flowing water]

-Methos!

Hey, Methos!

What the hell is this place?

-This is Kronos's idea of Camelot.

-So where are the stables, hm?

The horses?

Well, how do we ride?

-Where have you been for the last 2,000 years, idiot?

Living in the woods.

And now you think we can just mount up

and gallop down Broadway?

-We can do whatever we please.

-Right.

Four guys on horseback, in wild masks.

They'll think we're in a circus.

-They won't think it for long, will they?

-We're having a friend for dinner.

Tell me what's best with a rodent-- red, or white?

-Eat him, and I eat you.

-You're crazy.

You should have been in a madhouse instead of me.

-Keep talking.

I will have your head!

-Put them down!

Do it now.

We never raise a blade against each other.

Isn't that right, Methos?

-You said it.

-We are the Four Horsemen.

No band of men has ever been more cruel or more feared.

Remember that.

-When did Casparri escape?

-Sometime last night.

We found the doctor this morning.

-Let's go.

-No!

Uh, did he have any visitors yesterday?

-No, there's nothing on his chart.

POLICE OFFICER [OFFSCREEN]: Excuse us, doctor?

-Excuse me.

I must give my statement to the police now.

-Come on.

POLICE OFFICER [OFFSCREEN]: Go ahead.

-As I told you, I was busy with a patient.

-Kronos and Methos already have him.

I don't know why we're wasting time in this hell hole.

-This is why.

[READING] "Hotel de Seze, Bordeaux." Methos must have

left it.

-The question is, what for?

-You think he's setting us up?

-Don't you?

-Maybe.

-But were going anyway?

-It's the only place we've been invited.

-Silas, my brother, why would we ride with sword and axe,

when today, there are weapons of unimaginable power?

-Weapons ready to plunge the Earth into

generations of darkness.

-If we choose.

What more could we asked for?

What better time for us to come together than in the

scientific age?

Just think of what men like us can do--

men without conscience, without fear.

Think of the destruction, the devastation, the death.

A world of anarchy and madness.

Now, you think of that, and dream.

[monkeys screaming]

-The weapons of today are different, but it all comes

down to the same thing--

there are the conquerors, and there are the conquered.

-You wanna conquer the world with monkeys?

-Not with them.

With this.

The glorious virus.

AIDS, Ebola, and now, mine.

It doesn't have a name, and it doesn't have a cure.

Tell me, Caspian, were you in England

when the plague struck?

I was.

-You have a plan?

-I have a few thoughts.

I have a few dollars.

Enough for a start.

And now we have Methos, and now we'll have a plan.

-What did you have in mind?

-Once, we rode out of the sun, bringing death at

the point of a sword.

There was no man, and no immortal, who could

stand before us.

We were death on horseback.

They called us the end of the world.

Well, gentlemen, I want to give them

what they fear most--

the Apocalypse.

-No messages, no reservations.

Nothing.

-Dead end.

-He left that clue.

He'll get in touch.

-He's done nothing but lie to you--

it's all he ever does.

-A bomb with the virus in a fountain?

How many do you think that will kill?

You've gone soft, Methos.

-I'm scared.

Are you scared?

-It's a prelude!

Have you read Aristotle's "Poetics"?

No, of course not-- you haven't even seen

"Casablanca".

What is the first rule of great drama?

Start small, and build.

A fountain to get their attention.

Then, a public pool to kill a hundred.

Then, a stadium to kill 10,000.

Then, one drop of the virus the city's water supply,

within a week,--

-And then a country.

-You want to own the world, you offer them a choice.

The Horsemen rule, or they all die.

-The Horsemen rule, or the world dies.

Has a nice ring to it.

I forgot how good you were, Methos.

We begin tonight.

-He's not your friend.

He's no one's friend.

He's putting the Horsemen back together.

You have no idea what that means.

-It's Kronos who's behind this-- let me deal with him,

to then we'll worry about the rest.

-Kill Kronos, you cut out the heart of the Horsemen.

Kill Methos, take the head.

They both have to die.

-Even if you get your revenge, the memories won't end.

Killing can't erase what happened.

Only living can do that.

-Nothing can do that.

Nothing.

-Methos!

You look troubled.

-Just thinking.

-Ah.

You were always good at that, eh?

Glad, after all these years, you still are.

-Me, too.

-Not like the old days, is it?

-What do you mean?

-I don't like this killing from a distance.

I like to feel my axe in my hands.

Look into my enemy's eyes before I strike.

-Soon enough.

-You don't think the virus will work?

-It will work.

Silas, for 2,000 years, we have lived without this.

We have lived without the blood, the fear, the power.

-And for 2,000 years, I have dreamed of the day when we

would ride again!

Like you always said, Methos-- we live, we grow stronger, and

then we fight.

-I'll see you later.

-Do you think he'll let me have one?

-What?

-A monkey!

I like this one.

-I'll ask him.

-Thank you, brother.

-Will you kill him, Duncan?

Can you kill him?

-If I have to?

-You will.

-Did it ever occur to you that maybe he's trying to help us?

-No.

[telephone ringing]

-Hello?

-Elysium Church, 30 minutes.

Come alone.

-I'll be right down.

-Was that him?

-No.

Something wrong with my credit card.

I'll be right back.

[church bells]

[door closing]

-Well, I'm here.

-Yeah, thanks.

-Why'd you lie to me?

-About what?

-About Cassandra.

About who you were.

-I have been many things, MacLeod.

-And who are you now?

-Why'd you think I didn't tell you?

I knew how you'd react.

What I've done, you can't forgive.

That's not in your nature.

Will you accept it?

-Accept what?

That a friend I've trusted with my life slaughtered

innocent people for what?

A few head of cattle?

What are you going to tell me, Methos?

That's how the world was?

-No.

The world was how we made it!

-No, the world was how you chose to make it!

How you chose to slaughter her people and burn her village!

-And I chose to take her prisoner.

-And?

-There's more.

KRONOS [OFFSCREEN]: Move!

Come on!

SILAS [OFFSCREEN]: Move it!

-Another day well-spent, Methos!

Come, let's celebrate!

Divide our bounty.

-You can have my share.

I'm fine.

-Come on, you dog.

-Um, that's good.

-I cooled it in the river for you.

You rode far.

-Yes.

-My compliments, brother.

You taught her well in everything, I see.

And seems she keeps the best fruit for you.

-It's no different from the rest.

-Maybe it just tastes better in here.

You've made quite a prize of her, haven't you?

-She's no different from the others.

-Except you seem to prefer her to all others.

Why is that?

Have you grown attached?

-No.

-Good.

Didn't think you'd make a mistake like that, brother.

Because now it's time to share the spoils of war.

-No!

-Ah!

You've left some spirit in her, brother!

I like that!

After I finish, maybe I'll let Caspian have her.

-No!

Methos, please!

No!

Methos, please!

Methos!

SILAS [OFFSCREEN]: Brother!

CASSANDRA [OFFSCREEN]: Methos!

KRONOS [OFFSCREEN]: Get in there!

[grunting]

-I'd rather die!

No!

No more!

No more!

Please don't hurt me!

-Maybe I won't give you to Caspian after all.

[screaming]

METHOS [OFFSCREEN]: I could have stopped her.

But I didn't.

She escaped across the wilderness, and she must've

died a dozen times from heat and thirst before she found a

village that would take her in.

And I bet it was worth it, just to get away from us.

-So what are you doing with Kronos now?

-Same as always-- trying to survive.

And if you want Cassandra to live, you'll get her as far

away from here as you can.

-What?

And let Kronos go?

-You don't have a choice, MacLeod.

You can't stop him.

I can't stop him.

Nobody can!

-Yeah, four guys on horseback are going to rule the world.

-The world doesn't change, Not in 500 years, not in 5,000.

It's only the details that change.

Kronos didn't torch those villages for a few coins.

He torched them to watch them burn.

And now he'll have a nuclear bomb, or a plane load of

napalm, but the effect will be the same--

the world living in fear of The Horsemen.

-And you expect me just to let that happen?

You should know me better than that.

-I came to warn you.

The first step towards Kronos's brave new world will

happen tonight.

-Where?

When?

-In a fountain at the Place Des Quinconces.

-You set a bomb?

-Do you know anything about Ebola, MacLeod?

Well, there are worse things in the world, if you look.

And Kronos looked.

He's bred a virus.

No cure.

It's very exotic.

He's got cages of monkeys he's been testing it on.

He's got enough to destroy half of Europe.

Now, a little bit in a fountain will only kill a few.

But it's a start.

-The water supply is next.

-Bright boy.

-Let's go.

-Oh, no, no, no.

If I go up against him, I lose.

-Going with the winner?

So why are you here, Methos?

What game are you playing?

-It's in the bottom fountain, just above the waterline.

White, then black, then red.

-Don't do this.

You have a choice.

-And you have 24 minutes.

[whooshing]

-Duncan, what took you so long?

-I'm afraid Duncan is otherwise engaged.

Am I wrong?

Don't I owe you something?

Too bad you didn't know you had to take my

head to kill me.

-I'll take it now!

-I've waited a long time to give this back to you.

-Get out of here!

There's a bomb!

Go!

METHOS [OFFSCREEN]: White, then black, then red.

[water spray]

-Your bomb didn't go off.

Not much of a plan, was it?

-Well, I'll think of better.

-I'm sure you will.

Otherwise, I'm going to have to improvise.

By the way, where were you?

-I was just--

-Warning your friend.

You didn't really think I wouldn't know you'd tell

MacLeod, did you?

-It's not like you think it is.

-Ah, It's exactly like I think.

My dearest brother, that's what makes you my

perfect right arm.

We think alike.

We always have.

-I doubt that, Kronos.

No one thinks quite like you.

-Spoken like a true scholar.

Look at this!

All I have to do, is punch in a few numbers, and a small

vial explodes in the reservoir above Bordeaux.

And then, well, you know what happens next, don't you?

We all have our own little plans.

I'm sure you won't disappoint me.

Come with me.

I have something else to show you.

She was asking about you.

You knew exactly what you were doing when you sent MacLeod to

that fountain, didn't you?

So I did what you expected.

I went and got Cassandra while she was unprotected.

That was the plan, wasn't it?

You see, I know you better than you know yourself.

-Which is why the plan was perfect.

-Your plans always are.

I wonder what your friend MacLeod

thinks of you now, though.

-Think I care?

-You should.

You lured him away.

When he comes back, he finds that someone's stolen his

woman, I mean if that-- if that--

if that was me, I--

I'd want you dead.

-Well, then we should prepare for MacLeod to come here.

-Already thought of that.

-Did you send Caspian or Silas?

-Both.

[whooshing]

Welcome home, boy!

You kill one of us, the other takes your head while you're

down.

-If you kill one of us.

-Just like the old times!

Take the bridge!

-It's been a long time, Highlander.

You're gonna taste good!

-Yeah?

Well, you're gonna go hungry!

Two can play at that game.

[screaming]

-Damn you!

-You should eat.

This is familiar.

-I'm not your sorry little slave anymore.

I know what I am, now.

What you are.

You may have fooled MacLeod, but you never fooled me.

-I wasn't trying to fool anyone.

-If MacLeod knew what you really are, he'd have taken

your head long ago.

-Well, he had his chance.

He didn't.

It wasn't all bad when we were together.

-I only served you because you forced me.

-Don't hate yourself.

Stockholm Syndrome.

It's like Patty Hearst.

Hostages come to rely on their captors for

food, and for approval.

And they fall in love.

-I never loved you.

-You thought you did.

You though I would protect you.

You forgot what I was.

-I forgot nothing!

I'll take your head with my bare hands.

You, then Kronos!

-I have seen what happens to people who go up against him.

If we want to survive, we will keep him happy.

-I didn't do it then, and I won't know.

I'd rather die.

-Well, then you'll die.

And you can forget about MacLeod.

MacLeod is dead.

-Ah, monsieur.

-Yes?

-If I want to import a hundred monkeys, who would I talk to?

-This is a pet shop, monsieur.

Not a circus.

-He killed Caspian and you just let him get away?

-I scoured the river.

Searched for hours.

-Never again will we be four.

-I'll go back out again.

-No.

No.

You come with me.

If MacLeod even get close, kill her.

-He's alive?

-Not for long!

-You failed!

-Come with me, my clever friend.

You and I are going to poison a city.

[blade sharpening]

[whooshing]

-The Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse doesn't exactly

have the same ring, now does it, Kronos?

What are you gonna do now?

-You're not going to be around long enough to find out.

-Oh?

We'll see about that.

-Think of Cassandra.

Lay down your sword, and she lives.

Fight and win--

or lose-- she dies.

Come on, MacLeod!

Your life for hers.

What do you say?

-I think she'd rather be dead.

-Your call!

-You set me up.

-Tell Silas to finish her!

And let her know it was MacLeod's decision.

-Methos, don't do this!

-Like you said, I go with the winner.

-MacLeod's here?

-Yes.

[screaming]

-No!

-You're challenging me?

For the girl's head?

Take it.

She's yours, brother.

-I am not your brother!

-How can you do this?

How can you go against what you are?

-You don't know anything about me!

[monkeys screeching]

-Not bad!

But not good enough!

-There's more.

-I'm sure there is, knowing that you've

just killed your woman.

Maybe you'll meet again in the afterlife.

-Traitor!

KRONOS [OFFSCREEN]: Methos!

-Come on!

-You still don't understand, do you, MacLeod?

[SHOUTING] I am the end of time!

-You are history.

-Ah!

Ugh!

Ahh!

Ahh!

[screaming]

-I killed Silas!

I liked Silas!

-Now I'm supposed to forgive you?

-Cassandra!

-You want him to live?

-Yes, I want him to live.

Cassandra!

I want him to live!

[weeping]

-Oh.

-But you had to know Kronos would come for you one day.

-I tried not to think about it.

-You could have killed him.

Why didn't you?

-I wanted to.

But we were brothers--

in arms, in blood, in everything except birth.

And if I judged him worthy to die, then I judged

myself the same way.

And I wanted to live.

I still do.

-Kronos was right.

You set the whole thing up, didn't you?

-What do you mean?

-You knew he'd come after Cassandra.

And you let him, because you knew I'd come after her.

You couldn't kill him, but you hoped I could.

-Maybe.

-Maybe?

Methos, what about Cassandra?

-One of a thousand regrets, MacLeod.

One of a thousand regrets.
