I wonder if whoever donated
the jewelry box to the yard sale

knew that was inside.

Well, Addy bought the jewelry box,
so it's hers, right?

It looks like my favorite character

But this doesn't seem like
the sort of thing

you'd put in a yard sale on purpose.

When I think about keeping it,
I feel kind of funny inside.

About feeling funny inside.

Have any of you ever had
a feeling in your heart

that told your mind what to do?

Sometimes I feel a little itch inside

like I should call my grandma to say hi.

When I see kids at school being mean,
it makes me feel hot and scratchy.

Even if they aren't being mean to me.

One time, my teacher
had broccoli in her teeth.

And I was gonna tell her,
but then I didn't.

And my stomach felt like
I swallowed a big cold ice cube.

[chuckles] Sometimes
I get feelings like those too.

I call them my inner voice.

Inner voice?

Mm-hmm.

It's a voice that talks to you
but doesn't say anything out loud.

It's hard to hear a voice
that doesn't say anything out loud.

But I bet Stillwater has a story
about listening to our inner voices.

[chuckles] Why, as a matter of fact, I do.

One day,
Kazuko was in a hurry to get home.

As she rushed
past a house in her neighborhood,

Kazuko noticed a hole in the fence.

Well, her inner voice
had something to say about that.

[gasps] If that fence doesn't get mended,
their chickens might get loose.

You should let someone know.

Oh, it's such a big hole, though.

[stammers]
I'm sure they've noticed it by now.

[Stillwater] Instead of doing
what her inner voice suggested,

Kazuko continued on her way.

There's a rain cloud coming.

That laundry is going to get soaking wet.
Someone ought to tell them.

Everyone can see that cloud coming.

I bet they'll bring the laundry in
before it gets here.

[Stillwater] Kazuko was so intent
on getting home

that she kept ignoring her inner voice.

She ignored it when she noticed a roof
with a broken tile.

[gasps] It could fall and hurt someone.

[Stillwater] A cart with a wobbly wheel.

That wheel might roll away.

[Stillwater] And a beautiful garden.

[gasps] I should tell the gardener
how wonderful her flowers are.

[Stillwater] Kazuko chose not to act
on her inner voice all the way home.

Oh, Kazuko!
I noticed one of your pipes is leaking.

Oh, no. I'll fix it right away.

Thank you for telling me, Mako.

I almost didn't.
But a feeling inside me told me I should.

A f-feeling inside?

[chuckles] Yes.

Sometimes a voice inside me
helps me be kind to others.

My inner voice. I try to listen to it.

My inner voice was telling me
how I could help my neighbors.

[gasps] I hope it's not too late
to listen to it.

[Stillwater] Kazuko returned to each
of the neighbors she'd passed by earlier.

And this time, she listened
to her inner voice.

Her neighbors were thankful,

and Kazuko was so glad
she had brightened their day.

My inner voice is telling me
I want to at least try and find the person

who donated this jewelry box
to the yard sale.

Why do you think your inner voice
is saying that?

I want to know
if they meant to include the hair clip.

Or, if it was an accident.

Otherwise, every time I look at it,
I'll wonder if someone else is missing it.

I noticed
these Chinese characters earlier.

Maybe they're a clue.

What do they say, Stillwater?

They spell out a name, "M. Chen."

Looks like we have a mystery to solve.

[chuckles] While you're all on the case,

[Stillwater] Every year,

a group of leatherback turtles traveled
from one side of the ocean to the other.

They called it "the crossing."

Follow me, everyone.

Just a little further,
and we'll take our rest.

With their trusted leader at the front,

they made it safely to their destination,
every time.

Many years passed,
and this leader grew old.

The time has come
for someone new to lead the crossing.

Who shall it be?

Will no one volunteer?

Ah, young one, you will be the one.

No, Uncle. We- None of us know the way.

We've made this journey countless times.
[stammers] How could that be true?

Because on every journey
we've always followed you.

Ah! Very well.

I will lead you all on one last crossing,
except this time,

I will be in the back of the bale.

[Stillwater] The rest of the leatherbacks
were surprised by this

and a little nervous.

At first, it was not easy.
They traveled in a circle.

The leader would watch out for those
who were at risk of getting lost.

[Stillwater] But he'd let them learn
from their own mistakes.

How do we get out of here?

I think we're lost.

I think that it's this way. We did it!

-[turtle 1] Yeah. We did!
-[turtle 2] We did it!

[Stillwater]
They had to make many tough decisions.

-Uh, should we go around?
-I think we should go through.

-[gasps]

[Stillwater] But they were also able
to discover new routes.

This way, everyone!

[turtles cheering]

[Stillwater] And eventually,
they made it safely to their destination

with their proud leader
bringing up the rear.

It would have been a lot easier

if the other turtles
just had their leader show them,

but they learned a lot more
by figuring it out for themselves.

There are many different ways
to be a leader.

Sometimes you lead from the front,
and sometimes you lead from the back.

I learned a lot
when my egg drop designs didn't work.

It's not fair to keep Addy and Lucas
from learning that way too.

Letting someone learn
from their own mistakes

can itself be a great gift.

Hey.

I wanna say I'm sorry.

I shouldn't have told you
how to do your project.

It's okay, Michael.
I know you were only trying to help.

We're almost out of eggs,
but I think we've got some good ideas now.

This uses balloons all the way
around the egg to keep it nice and safe.

out of drinking straws.
