has a great value to them

But the problem with all Jewish
folklore is that after the Holocaust

there's no one to ask.

left to ask.

interested in asking this.

Specially if it was
about folk music.

It didn't interest anyone.

that definition of nationalism

where we needed a folk music

or a folk poetry
in our native language.

We had the Bible and we had
the classical language of Hebrew

and we have all this stuff
that defined us

and we didn't use the same thing that
other people use to define their selves

as a border deserving nation.

...by the time we did
care anything for it

it was almost too late.

When Jews, in a town like this,
needed music, they would go

to the local gypsy musicians

and systematically ask around

with all the gypsy
clans that played music

who is around who still
remembers any of that.

that tie to an identity,

a whole healthy culture

left in the garbage heap behind.
